What's something that you're doing that pulls a ton of your time? Can you systemize it? Can you automate it?In order to answer your questions about what I automate in my business, I was challenged to think about my business and what automation systems I have outside of my automated emails. It is my goal that what I share in this episode will help you think of an automation that you are going to try in your business to buy back your time, make something easier for you, or make your communication more streamlined.  I find that hearing what other people do, even if it doesn't directly apply to my business, gives me ideas and I can take that idea and run with it. So I hope that this episode can do that for you!TAKEAWAYS:Use Many Chat to automate or start DM conversations. Many Chat allows auto responses and links to be sent in real time so the conversion rate is higher. It also gives amazing market research and frees up my time by not making me feel like I have to be on Instagram all the time. Use a bundle auto responder. To be a part of my bundles, people must send in an application. What I was doing was a very timely process so I added Zapier to connect my Google Forms to my ConvertKit, and automate my process. This allowed for the application form to be filled out and then automatically put it in my email marketing software for me, which made a huge difference in gaining back time. Every single day I use Meta Ad. Yes, this is an investment, but it is producing sales and leads every single day. I can choose to lower ad spend or ramp it up, but it buys back time and produces sales, so it's worth it to me!RESOURCES:Check out the blog post that goes along with this episode for additional resourcesListen to the 3 email automations all coaches and experts need episodeListen to the Pinned posts and Many chat episodeListen to the My Meta Ads strategy episodeSnag a seat in the Sell on Autopilot Masterclass, and learn how to use email marketing to sell while you sleep!CONNECT WITH ALLISON:Follow Allison on InstagramDID YOU HAVE AN 'AH-HA MOMENT' WHILE LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE?If you found value and are ready to take action from listening to this episode, head to Apple Podcasts and help us reach new audiences by giving the podcast a rating and a review. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: why do we want multiple people with different perspectives at the table? Because we know the value in that. How many blind spots are you able to see when you have people looking at it from different directions? But if they don't feel like they belong, they cannot bring those perspectives forward in a safe space.”   -  Chelsea Burns   In this episode, we are talking about in-office culture. You know, cubicle locations, thermostat wars, the smell of tuna lingering in the post-lunch hallways… Do you remember these times with rose colored glasses? Or are you filled with dread at the idea of returning to the office space? We are seeing a clear trend to get employees back to the office full time. We talk about the pros and cons of this as well as a way to be proactive in your workplace situation. We also have an interview with Chelsea Burns, applied psychologist and marketer with a passion for elevating women. In her graduate thesis "A Sense of Belonging: Understanding the Female Entrepreneur's Connection to Self and Others," she uncovers unexplored and impactful findings about the power of belonging. “Find joy in the imperfection of it all. People talk about the enigma of work-life balance; it does not exist. It's more like work-life integration.”   -  Susan Thomas   In this episode, we are talking about the often controversial concept, “Leaning In”…and discussing how, today, we just as often hear women use the phrase, “Lean Out”. When Sheryl Sandberg wrote the book Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead in 2013, it was received as the working woman's Bible. It challenged women to do more. But by 2018, the concept and author faced a major fallout as women said: that just doesn't work.   What does all this mean? How are we seeing women demonstrate leaning in and leaning out today?   We also have an interview with the indelible Susan Thomas, Managing Director of Health Plan Growth at Express Scripts, who shares about perspective, boundaries, and how she balances a thriving career with a full personal life - friends, children, and aging parents. In this conversation, you will hear: What is leaning in and leaning out, and do these phrases hold water in 2023? I think the most powerful part of facilitation is that when it's your idea, people resist it. When it's their idea, they execute on it. Workplace burnout…it's not a new phrase, and it's also not going away. Burnout is a WHO-recognized state in which there is a chronic imbalance between your job demands and resources. What's the solution? We propose: an intentional focus on wellbeing at work. For scalable impact, leaders must take responsibility for creating psychologically safe environments, thriving cultures, and a sense of belonging for employees. We connect the dots between wellbeing and what will be 75% of our workforce by 2025: millennials. Elisa Torres joins us to talk about how millennials are leading the way in taking stock of values, setting boundaries, and destigmatizing mental health in the workplace. Elisa is a marketing professional and a leader in the healthcare industry. As a Director for Global Strategic Marketing at Johnson & Johnson, she has excelled in her career, while also making an impact as a philanthropist and speaker. She has addressed audiences from TEDx stages to corporate settings to mission fields about the potential power we all have as leaders and change agents. “I stopped and took inventory of everything I've accomplished, and I thought, ‘I have every right to be in this room, I have every right to have a seat at this table.' Is that arrogance? No. I reframe it to say, [if I don't] I'm robbing them of my perspective. That's the beauty of diversity. My company will be better off if I communicate. So have the confidence to show up, speak up, and advocate for the ideas you have.” From this episode's conversation, you will hear: ● How burnout is driving companies to shift from wellness to wellbeing ● The five key elements of wellbeing and why career is a #1 priority ● Specific strategies for managers to focus on wellbeing, building resilience, and creating belonging in the workplace ● Millennials are teaching us about mental health and setting boundaries in the workplace ● How Elisa has integrated her personal human rights passions with her role at work Don't miss our ONE THING TO TRY and WHAT YOU GOT IN THAT BAG prompts at the end! We have leadership skills that cannot be replicated. We bring creativity and innovation, diversity of thought. We will continue to move the world forward, if we're there. So we have to keep being there. The work you do matters.” -Stephanie Keally In this episode, you will march through 1940 - 2023 as women redefine the workplace: ● In the 1940s, World War II brought women to the production lines; ● In the 1950s, women were sent back home and with the economy booming, a trophy housewife was the idyllic lifestyle; ● In the 1960s, the ideal was cracking; ● In the 1970s, legislation laid the foundation for women's rights; ● In the 1980s, women saw the highest participation in the workforce; ● In the 1990s we experienced the ‘mommy wars'; ● In the 2000s, we started going backwards while women said, we just can't do it all; ● In 2023, we still experience the push and pull of being a woman who works, but the future looks bright, and the march is worth it! Erin Craw talks to Heather Kurtenbach and Vicki O'Leary about the changing landscape of the construction industry and how they plan to continue making it less intimidating for women to jump into this profession. While construction has predominantly been a man-dominated industry, times are changing. Women make up about 14% of the Construction Workforce but the numbers continue to grow. Heather Kurtenbach has been an Ironworker for 18 years, finishing her apprenticeship in 2009. She went on to become a foreman, GF, instructor, and now a Business Agent for her Local, Ironworkers Local 86 in Tukwila, WA.Vicki O'Leary joined Ironworkers International in January 2016. Since that time, she became Chair of the North American Building Trades Union (NABTU) Tradeswomen's Committee. She is a 30+ year member of Ironworkers Local #1 in Chicago. She completed her triple major Bachelor of Arts degree in Union Leadership & Administration, Labor Education & Labor Studies from the National Labor College (2008) and obtained her Master of Arts Degree from Gonzaga University in Organizational Leadership (2012). She has also graduated from the Harvard Trade Union Program (HTUP- 2018) along with Cornell's National Labor Leadership Initiative (NLLI- 2018). She passionately strives for equal opportunity for all ironworkers - one that is free from bullying, harassment, and intimidation.

We need to know not just that you can do it, but that it will be difficult.” From this episode's conversation, you will hear: ● Why reflection, setting goals, and naming intentions in the new year can drive your success throughout the whole year. ● The benefits of having a mentor. ● Why authentic leadership has a major ripple effect and may just be the only way to lead. ● The value of a truth-teller in your professional life, especially for women. Growing Through It
016: The Penalties of Being a Working Mom with Erica Ballard, Life Coach for Women Who Work

Growing Through It

During the pandemic nearly 2.5 million women left the workforce and 1 in 3 mothers were considering leaving or downshifting their career. Being a working mom comes with penalties and biases, many subtle and easy to present as “concern” for the woman. With working moms making up 32% of all employed women in 2018, we need to take a closer look at the bias they experience in the workforce. Podcast guest, Erica Ballard, Life Coach for Women Who Work, walks us through the horrific stats of the uphill battle working moms face, including motherhood penalties and biases. Not only are working moms 100% less likely to be promoted but they earn $11,000 less than their childless peers and fathers. Erica offers a strategy to tease out bias and provides ways to be your own advocate at work. She also reveals the mental shift she made and how she decided she's playing a different game where she writes the rules. Key Highlights: 1 in 3 women are considering leaving or downshifting their career and 2 in 5 new moms will leave the workforce  Losing a mom within the first year of motherhood will cost a company $92,000. 75% of expectant mothers are excited to return to work but 43% of them end up leaving. Examples of “motherhood penalties” – 79% less likely to be hired, 100% less likely to be promoted, and make on average $11,000 less than their childless peers or fathers. Maternal wall bias: people believe you are less committed and as a result, less competent at work. Bias can be subtle such as assuming new mothers will check out when they come back to work or not offering them new projects (none of which is discussed directly with the woman). Maybe you don't want the promotion. What do you want your life to look like?  Ask for some reviews (even if it's off-cycle) to understand what your employer needs and/or expects from you. This can also help you understand where there is some bias. How women can be their own champions – determine what you want your like to look like, who do you have to be to be and show up as that person. You may have to switch jobs or careers (but do the internal work first). Do it your way and go have fun as you do it.
