Well, we’ve finally come to the end of our Street Sharks vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles debate with the finale to the Turtles pilot: Shredder and Splintered. Which show about ex-treeeme mutant teenagers/college students will reign supreme and which one will Dave declare the winner? The answer may (not) surprise you! I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we say goodbye (for now…) to the heroes in a half-shell is Ruler of the Wasteland and Street Sharks fanboy, Immortan Hoof. Listen as we discuss the unsettling reveal of Krang’s body: a giant man-baby wearing sunglasses and red underwear; Rocksteady finally gets his gun off; and finally, April O’Neil shows she’s willing to do anything - including threatening her boss with a Turtle communicator - to get her story. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/ApocalypseVideo) , Like Us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ApocalypseVideo) , or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com Saturday Morning Apocalypse will return with another batch of animated awesomeness as they tackle the holy grail of superhero cartoons: Batman - The Animated Series.
We are honored to welcome voice actor Renae Jacobs to the show, who you might know best as April O’Neil from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Renae tells us how she got into the voice over business, how she brought April to life, some other characters she’s voiced that you may not be aware of, and much more. We had a great time with Renae and hope you enjoy this totally tubular episode. Happy Thanksgiving! @Renae_l_Jacobs CannedAirPodcast.com @CannedAirPod @Canned_Air If you’d like to show your support, you can either visit our Patreon page at Patreon.com/CannedAirPod or you can leave us a review on iTunes! We’ve got the Turtles, now we enter...the shredder. After a whole episode of build up for the Turtles’ arch nemesis, Shredder is finally here in all of his glory. Unfortunately, he’s playing second fiddle to an alien from Dimension X. I’m your host, David Snider, and joining me as always is Ruler of the Wasteland and Patron of the Animated Arts, Immortan Hoof. Listen as we discuss the power dynamic between a bumbling Shredder and his alien boss, Krang; the Turtles show that violence is A-OK, as long as you’re killing robots; and finally, we can’t help but notice the (how do I put this…) “animation style” of April O’Neil in the second episode of the Turtles. Today on the Toy Power Podcast, it’s news time and while we peaked right before all those DCFandom reveals, there’s still plenty to cover. We check in how our friends Jay and Rob did with the finale of their Action Figure Adventure and we speculate how many Darren actually bought. There’s all the PowerCon news that has Darren hyped like it’s 1985 all over again – just don’t ask who won the fan-vote (BOOOOO!). The actual April O’Neil is actually doing some reporting as NECA confirm what we’ve all been waiting for – but what’s the deal with that Super Fiasco Shredder? Are there any winners out of this? Even in the industries darkest hour, Brian Flynn proves to be a shining light while Darren spends up big for his birthday – the milky-bars are on him! Ben calls out the Hasbro execs for their mash-up ideas as well those collectors who are into decidedly, adult, toys… Then a pair of exciting reveals as friend of show delivers some surprise goods and we announce the winner of our first ever competition! And of course there’s always time to gloat about ending our quiz-losing streak, isn’t that right Davey? #Darrenstopbeingnice Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcast See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

If you thought this podcast was done discussing everyone’s favorite gang of pubescent crime fighting reptiles, we’ve got news for you! Less than a year after the first TMNT movie did some major league butt-kicking at the box office, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES II: THE SECRET OF THE OOZE offered a second helping of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo — plus their furry but wise sensei Splinter, their cutlery-inspired arch-nemesis Shredder, and a whole lot of shameless pizza promotion. There’s no question that this sequel is more kid-friendly than the original, replacing Judith Hoag’s feisty April O’Neil with the more amiable Paige Turco, ditching the hockey-stick wielding bad boy Casey Jones, and giving our heroes a teenage pizza delivery boy sidekick. It also shows off more of Jim Henson’s creature effects with its super-sized baby villains Tokka and Rahzar. But TMNT II is perhaps best known as the film debut of Vanilla Ice, whose “Ninja Rap” inspires the hip-hop dance number that no early 90s family flick should be without. And before we’re completely done dining on turtle soup, our hosts reminisce about the video games, action figures, concert tours, and other wild TMNT merch we begged our parents to buy us — and recap their recent viewing of 1996's SPACE JAM, too. The world’s most fearsome podcast team unleashes its most tubular episodes yet, diving deep into the mythos of those lean, green phenoms of yore, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. First, we check out the comic book where it all began, discussing how a black-and-white spoof aimed at adults became one of the most popular children’s franchises of all time. Radical! Next, we revisit the kitschy cartoon series — and the catchy theme song we’ll never be able to get out of our heads, even if our brains are removed from our bodies and placed in awkward bald-guy-in-red-underwear human suits. Righteous! And finally, we return to 1990’s live action TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES movie and debate who, exactly, this mashup of samurai lore, stoner slang, dated movie references, and goofy kiddie humor is supposed to be for. Cowabunga! Do we still feel the Turtle Power after all these years? Or has this whole franchise aged about as well as April O’Neil’s bright yellow jumpsuit and white go-go boots? Don a trench coat, grab your nunchucks, and head on down to the sewers for another cool (but rude) episode of When We Were Young! In this totally tubular episode, we look back at the righteous premiere of the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on its 30th anniversary! We also discuss a bit from Secret of the Ooze and the other feature films. Of course, we kick things off with some news, however little there is, including move feature...
In this episode, your hosts Melissa and Jarrad are joined by one of Jarrad's long time best friends Michael Rehr to talk about the 1990 movie from New Line Cinemas: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Grab yourself a slice of pizza (hopefully without needing penicillin) and listen to a nostalgic walk down memory lane about your 4 favorite mutants to be named after Renaissance artists. In a crime ridden New York which is being plagued with robberies perpetrated by the mysterious Foot clan and their masked leader The Shredder; they work with fearless (except for rats) reporter April O'Neil and street vigilante Casey Jones to bring them down. The fight turns personal for the boys when their sensai Master Splinter gets held captive by the Foot. Your hosts and their guests cover all sorts of ground in this episode as they exchange fun facts, debate who was the better April, Brian Tochi's amazing ability to disguise his voice, breathe too much into why Shredder removes his face plate and recall their favorite moments from the film and pretty much everything else in between. Being kids of the 80's, the turtles were life for Mike and Jarrad, so all things TMNT get discussed in this episode.
Our Netflix's THE TOYS THAT MADE US coverage is back and we're talking about everyone's favorite green turtle karate boys--The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! (By PLAYMATES). We also introduce a new, permanent host to the show: Blake's Soundboard. Also, Josh is here again. Head to the sewers with us and discuss the Toiletest Humor. Bring down the house with our piping hot Eugene Levy clips. Why is April O'Neil so dumb looking? Why does Blake cackle himself hoarse in this one? Really, you can hear it, so sorry about that. You know we're gonna talk #toiletgate AND #puppetgate. Josh will Ninja Rap his ass off. Also: Nostalgia vs original IP, Adam's NECA TMNT Target quest for Bebop and Rocksteady, Parasite (the movie), Ace Duck, NECA Ambassadors, NO TURTLE ON THE SHELF. Intro music PARODY by Blake Walker. Outro music: "Turtle Power" by Partners in Kryme (which is infinitely superior to Ninja Rap). Brought to you by AUX Audio Enterprises.
We are battling the toys of our youth and this time it's the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs GI Joe! We talk vehicles, articulation and... April O'Neil's butt? Can Monty snap his losing streak? Will we alk Serpentor? Was Shredder cool?
Hey! You better hit that play button! Because if you do, you'll get to hear us wax eloquent about Taylor Dayne, Tig Notaro, sexual weightlifting, muscular puppets, buxom representations of April O'Neil, Fraggle Rock, Phil Collins, NFL Films, cult leaders, and a talking rat. The 90s nostalgia just doesn't want to end. This week, Arthur and I head Back to the Movies with a look at the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, directed by Dave Green (Earth to Echo). Much like last week's episode involving X-Men: Apocalypse, this episode featured much reminiscing. Well, for Arthur anyway. Admittedly, my Turtle Nostalgia is quite minimum. This newest entry in the Turtle Franchise is another attempt to capitalize on a series that dates back to the 80s and as cycled in and out of popularity for nearly 30 years. Can it rise above it's predecessor? Or is Michael Bay's talons sunk in too deep? Picking up where the last film left off, the Turtles are still unable to come out and play for fear of becoming icons of fear. As this raises tensions within the team, a sinister new force threatens the world by enlisting the help of the Shredder and Baxter Stockman as well as a couple of new heavies. But the Turtles aren't alone as they're once again backed by April O'Neil and a new hero on the streets, Casey Jones. Can the Turtles overcome the odds and save the day, or will Shredder finally make turtle stew? Much like the film *Spoiler Alert* this show is stretched thin. Arthur and I do the best with what we've got. We both spend a good deal of time elaborating on the baggage that we bring to this film, for better and for worse. Yet, I feel that we are still able to have a smart conversation about such a middling film.

Cowabunga! It's a turtle triple feature as Lyndsey gets radical with her VHS selections, picking the 1990 smash hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequels, 1991's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze and 1992's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Talking points: A triple feature. The comics, cartoon, and movies. The original film. Pizza party at Pizza Hut. Cartoons on VHS. The Foot as an allegory. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Corey Feldman as Donatello, and Josh Pais as Raphael. Rapid turnover in cast. A gritty first installment that feels like a reboot. Casey Jones. A violent and fully realized world. Secret of the Ooze. The BK Kids Club. Suburban Commando. Stepkids. Ernie Reyes Jr. These turtles look different. Paige Turco replaces Judith Hoag as April O’Neil. Out of the shell and on Oprah Winfrey. What does Splinter eat? Tokka and Rahzar fill in for Bebop and Rocksteady. Everything is toned down. Go Ninja by Vanilla Ice. Missed opportunity with the anti-mutagen. The third film. Army of Darkness. The soundtrack. A Hanes commercial. Surf Ninjas. All Effects Company takes over from Jim Henson, turning Splinter into a dog puppet. Oregon fills in for feudal Japan. Time travel. Romeo and Juliet subplot. Jokes for adults. A demon gives CPR. No pizza or consequences. Human-turtle relationships. Lame villains. A double role for Elias Koteas. Favorite turtles over the years. Buy it/rent it/tape over it for the series. Other adaptations of TMNT. Turtle nostrils. An American Werewolf in London.

Critique combo Blu-ray/DVD Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The latest “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, but the smell of producer Michael Bay permeates the stereotypical popcorn flick. Based more or less on the 1980s franchise of the same name, the film introduces a somewhat different origin story showing much closer connection between female journalist April O’Neil and the four humanoid reptiles. The team is still up against Foot Clan leader Shredder, who threatens to release a deadly virus to the New York City. Not much ingenuity is spent on the storyline, the format is almost identical to Michael Bay’s first Transformers film, only this time it is a girl that plays a tiny small part when the heroes are trying to save the day. There is a notable discrepancy between the first and second halves. In the beginning Megan Fox takes forever to portray the ambitious journalist in a frustrating career path. The extra screen time is completely wasted because once the turtles show up, the career thing is quietly dropped. Perhaps this is just a conspiracy to delay the appearance of the turtles. The sewer dwellers in Liebesman’s movie can be a bit scary to take in for faint-hearted viewers. It certainly took me quite a while to grow accustomed to their appearances. The action heavy second half makes it easier to ignore their looks. The Foot Clan and the turtles engage in battles in New York’s underground sewage system, in a mountaintop secret laboratory, during a slide down a snowy mountain and ultimately on the rooftop of a downtown high-rise, the downhill chase being the most inventive and the highlight of the action sequences. Despite the realistic rendering of the comic figures’ images, the film shows a layer of cartoonish style from time to time, which helps evoke a sense of nostalgia, but also makes it hard to relate with the characters when they get hit. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, the rare combination of so many nouns in the title may sound quite a mouthful, but it is no doubt most efficient in generating a huge fan base and sizable sales figures. Teenagers may be fascinated by stories about mutants and ninjas, but it is the word “teenage” in the title that makes the franchise stand out. Liebesman’s movie is characterized by the same juvenile level humor. The funny, adolescent perspectives on pizza, rap and popular TV shows and films are the saving grace of this tedious reboot.
