Empresas disputam profissionais empregados.

Roughly 60% of the Indian population is under the age of 30 and hence the coolness funnel tends to be top-down. This is the segment that everyone will be building for. The consumption trends and behavioral patterns we hear here from these 4 accomplished people will likely remain relevant over the next decade. We have Navya - who's an unlikely grounded person one usually wouldn't assume, the precocious Zepto Brothers - where what stands out more than everything else is the bond 2 guys who met in the 6th-grade share with each other, and Tara - an outsider who paved her way into the very inside world of Bollywood. The transient nature of younger folks when it comes to housing/transport/ownership/vocation/fashion/shopping and the shorter attention spans are very different to someone like me who spends 8 hours watching a cricket match for example. Quick-commerce is a service aimed at achieving superfast delivery from ‘dark stores' to the consumer. And recently, they have boomed! To learn more about these developments, Gerard Oosterwijk, Digital Policy Analyst for FEPS, interviews Rachel Verdin, Research fellow of the University of Sussex Business School. She and a team of researchers investigated three countries (Germany, Spain and the UK), where they unveiled the health conditions of the employees in the sector, their job security and social rights. These firms use worker-intensive methods to deliver impressive convenience to your door. But who pays the price? She discovered that since this business is hard to sustain financially, and that the workers and riders bear the actual costs. This sector profits from advances in digital technology, weak labour markets, and abundant investment capital. Together they discuss to what extent this sector overlaps with, and differs from, the broader gig and platform economy, what it means for EU policy-making and its enforcement, and what we can expect for the future, as the venture capital that has funded unsustainably low delivery prices and loss-making firms is drying up.

"A demanda explodiu fortemente.

Hello, I'm Piers Fawkes and in this episode with Retail Innovation Week : dark stores and dark cities, the holidays on your phone, and luxury's casualization moment In the first section: Convenience, community, and last-mile delivery . Keeping shoppers happy along their purchase journey is what leads to repeat orders and increased engagement, and shopper happiness is increasingly being linked to the rapid fulfillment of their order. The rise of hyper-fast fulfillment hubs and autonomous delivery technologies to meet the always-on needs of a new generation of shoppers is redrawing the lines around retail, real estate, and increasingly the communities we reside within. In the second section: Last-Minute Mobile Holiday Shopping. Retailers are betting on interactive, phone-in-hand technology as the best way for shoppers to put presents under their trees this holiday season. Immersive, tech-fueled experiences are redefining window shopping for the 21st century by promoting products through customizable and personalized experiences, while mobile devices are turning even street murals into shoppable occasions. In the final section: The furthering of luxury and retail (looks like a lot of sneakers). The luxury market, particularly resale, is embracing streetwear with open arms, as the latter's meteoric rise redefines the former's category and places skateboards and hoodies on par with heirloom watches and jewelry. Sneakers are now the top-stocked men's and women's footwear style across all luxury brands. Shoppers' appetite doesn't appear to be wearing thin any time soon, with new streetwear auction records being set almost annually. Thanks for listening to Retail Innovation Week. How do dark stores help deliver groceries within 30 minutes?

Business Standard Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 18, 2021 7:13

Market dynamics are forcing tech companies to constantly evolve and undercut each other. In e-commerce, firms are competing not only on pricing and quality, but also on how fast they reach your doorstep. It started with Swiggy launching Instamart, promising grocery delivery in 15 to 30 minutes in Bengaluru and Gurugram. Soon, Dunzo stepped in with its 19-minute delivery promise. Then Grofers with a 10-minute pledge. Now, Zepto, a startup run by 19-year-old Stanford dropouts Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra, is also promising 10-minute delivery of groceries. So, how are these firms able to deliver groceries in such a short time? The answer is dark stores. Dark stores or micro-warehouses are located close to the point of delivery, as opposed to large warehouses on the city outskirts. Hundreds of dark stores service an entire city like Delhi, compared to 3-4 large warehouses. Each dark store manages a focused set of 1,500-2,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) or distinct product items. Startups are using technologies inside these dark stores to reduce the processing time for orders.  However, as Indian startups are gunning to become the fastest to deliver your groceries, their race has also triggered a debate on social media.  Given the condition of our roads and the traffic in our big cities, is it fair for startups to make their delivery partners work under a time constraint of as little as 10 minutes? Responding to the criticism, Grofers CEO Albinder Dhindsa clarified that his company is, in no way, forcing its delivery partners to “drive faster”.  The market penetration of quick-commerce is estimated at around $0.3 billion in the calendar year 2021 and is expected to grow to $5 billion by 2025, according to a new report by RedSeer. The growth will be led by convenience-seeking customers, among them ambitious millennials who are impulse purchasers, in the big cities. The addressable market for quick-commerce in India is 20 million households, according to RedSeer.  However, analysts aren't sure about the sustainability of the quick-commerce model in India. Online grocery startups operate on wafer-thin profit margins of around 10 per cent to 20 per cent. Now add to that the cost of delivering groceries in 10, 15 or 19 minutes by operating several micro-warehouses. Analysts add that while customers would not say no to quick deliveries, it is highly unlikely they'll choose to pay extra for it. It remains to be seen if quick-commerce startups can create an addressable market and sustain their race for faster deliveries.  Watch Video

This episode features an interview with Max Pedró, Co-Founder & President of Takeoff Technologies. As an eCommerce and Financial Services entrepreneur, Max is working to transform online grocery by developing an ecosystem of automated micro-fulfillment centers. On this episode, Max takes us inside the backroom of what he calls “the beehive of automation,” discusses why price cannot be overlooked in favor of speed and convenience, and lays out his vision for the grocery store of the future. 3 Takeaways:By making humans 10x more productive, automation allows for the investment in click-and-pick technology. A Takeoff micro-fulfillment center can assemble 130 units per labor hour vs. 20 units in a brick-and-mortar supermarket. It also increases online volume by 20%.Online grocery is here to stay. Four years ago, 0.5% of purchases were online. This year, it is projecting to be north of 10% - a 20x increase. This behavior is going to stick post-pandemic, and customers are going to continue to expect same in-store prices and two-hour delivery.Love your lamb chops but don’t care about roaming the aisles for toilet paper? The grocery store of the future will feature a combined shopping experience where “wants” items (meats, coffee, flowers) are still made available to pick and enjoy in-store, while routine items are set aside for drive-through and delivery fulfillment.Key Quotes: “Let's face it, companies like Amazon and Walmart are making this the new norm: same price as in-stores, no additional fees. You choose pickup or home delivery within two hours. The only way that you can actually build viable businesses is if you put automation very close to where their shoppers are; therefore, hyper-local micro fulfillments.”“We can help reimagine retail, and in doing so we can actually democratize access of quality foods at even cheaper prices, all while adding convenience.”“In a world without shelves, shoppers just want convenience and not to pay more for it.”--This podcast is presented by Dell Technologies and Intel. Welcome back to Season 3 of Drink Like a Lady. With the pandemic,  our personal lives were disrupted.  The way we do business was disrupted. Business models, products and services, team building and culture building were scrutinized in a way we haven't seen in 10 years.Companies that weren't early adopters of technology --now are. More are obsessed with analytics in order to learn about their customer. In today's episode, we are looking  at the companies that pivoted successfully in 2020. 1. Grocery Stores Became Dark Fulfillment CentersIn the effort to better serve customers AND to protect employees , a number of grocery stores are banning customers from entering and instead transforming the stores into DARK stores, or order fulfillment centers.Whole Foods (for one) converted stores in both Los Angeles and New York, and Kroger and Eagle have done the same with multiple locations.Dark Stores allow grocers to fill pickup and delivery orders much more quickly than using fulfillment centers further from customers.2. Restaurants Entered the Grocery MarketMany restaurant chains, including Panera, California Pizza Kitchen and Subway, have begun selling fresh groceries  such as : eggs, fresh vegetables, meat, and even liquor to pick up alongside their restaurant orders. They have access to fresh produce and need a revenue stream anyway.3. Retailers Ramped Up Curbside PickupAs customers were barred from shopping in-store, retailers brought merchandise to the curb. It was a way to move inventory, keep customers, and be safe.  Retailers such as DSW, Best Buy, Staples, Macy's, Kohl's created "PickUp Stations"where customers could pick up  items with low risk.4. Hotels offer “day rates” for remote workers.Red Roof Inn started offering day rates for folks to work remotely for as low as $29.00 a day at some locations.  You can't beat a fast internet connection and a quiet place to work, plus hotels needed the revenue.5. Fitness Companies Move Workouts OnlineFolks don't have to go a physical gym to work out and be healthy.  Online classes in yoga, Pilates, weight training, aerobics blew up during the pandemic. The successful pivots had these traits in common:Agile mindset. The companies pivoted quickly. Strong leadership prevailed.Acceptance that consumer demands were changing. The way we buy products and services will never be the same.Acceptance that personal and business life is different now too.
