Have you ever felt like you're doing everything right in your concussion recovery—and still not making progress? You're not imagining it. And you're definitely not alone. One of the biggest mistakes people make after a concussion is focusing only on symptoms, without addressing the actual root causes—especially when it comes to how the brain and nervous system are functioning underneath the surface. In today's episode of the Concussion Nerds Podcast, we're joined by Dr. David Hardy, a chiropractor and functional neurologist with a passion for helping people come back to life—literally—after brain injury. From stories of patients who couldn't walk across a room to those who graduated from walkers to high heels (yes, really!), this episode is a heart-opening look at what's actually possible when we approach concussion recovery from a truly neurological perspective. BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU'LL DISCOVER: Why so many concussion symptoms linger for years—and how functional neurology can break that cycle What it means when you look “fine on paper” but still feel totally off How the nervous system influences healing, emotions, and recovery (and why rehab must address all three) The surprising impact of intensive care programs—and the real reason they work when nothing else does If you've been struggling to find answers, hope, or lasting results on your post-concussion journey… this one's for you. SkySwitch, the leading next-generation white-label UCaaS provider, announced today that it has launched a new option within their existing partner program, the Foundations program. The Foundations program offers all the benefits of its Wholesale program—a rock-solid UCaaS platform and technology with a wide range of features, backed by a team of experts, all delivered under the partners' brand—and additionally provides back-office support. See the podcast below. With the Foundations program, SkySwitch handles all the billing, taxation, and regulatory work while keeping the partner's brand front and center. By taking on the back-office tasks, it allows partners to focus on growing their brand and delivering communication solutions to their customers. The existing Wholesale program is still available for partners who have the resources and processes in place to manage the back-office billing, taxation, and regulatory tasks. Now partners have the option to choose the program that best suits their needs. “As a white-label provider, SkySwitch invests heavily in our partners' success. This goes beyond the product itself, and that's what the Foundations program is all about,” said David Hardy, General Manager of SkySwitch. “Not every partner has the desire, or bandwidth to manage these critical back-office and go-to-market functions. Having the option to outsource all that to the same partner that provides the underlying UCaaS technology can be a game-changer.” For more information about our new SkySwitch Foundations Partner Program, visit us at the Channel Partners Conference this week March 25-26 in Meeting Room 18 outside of the Expo Hall floor. David Hardy is a functional neurologist and the host of The Hardy Brain podcast. In this episode, he provides a sort of crash course on the brain and nervous system. Specifically, you will learn how to use certain bodily movements (e.g. with the eyes, breath, mouth, and jaw) to both interpret and alter your brain state. A dual theme running throughout this episode is concussions, head trauma, and sports. However, this is an episode for anyone with a human nervous system. The simple behavioral tools that we discuss trace back to our early and pre-human roots and therefore can be used by anyone to quickly change how they think, feel, and act. Try some of them out, play around with them, and find the ones that work best for you. Along the way, you just might also discover some new ones or learn something new about yourself. The first 30 minutes or so of the conversation focuses primarily on concussions, head traumas, and David's life journey. Then we start digging deeper into neurology and how our overall brain and nervous system functions. We talk about how to detect problems in our nervous system and reprogram it via behavior protocols including: breathing exercises, eye, neck, head, mouth, jaw, & vocal movements, smells, and more. The direction (vertical, horizontal, rotational, etc.) engages different parts of the brain, and we talk about that. These movements can also be used in careful combinations with one another to produce various effects. We tie all this back to sports, music, dance, communication, life, and more. By the end of this, you should have a better understanding of your brain-body and how to consciously change it through action.RESOURCESEXERCISES - box breathing (used by Navy SEALs) - breath holding (used by biathletes) - circular breathing- EMDR- holotropic breathwork- lion's breath- smooth pursuit exercises- Wim Hof breathingNEUROSCIENCE TERMS - brainstem- cerebellum- midbrain (mesencephalon)- midline musculature- mirror neurons- optic nerve- pons- proprioception- trigeminal nerve- vestibular system ***CONNECT WITH DAVID HARDY*** LinkedIn: /dr-david-hardy-brain and /the-hardy-brain podcast: The Hardy Brain (available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc.) website: thehardybrain.ca
In today's episode of the Let's Talk Brain Health Podcast, we delve into the fascinating world of functional neurology with our esteemed guest, Dr. David (Dave) Hardy, DC. With experiences spanning North Carolina, Ohio, and now Alberta, Canada, Dave brings a unique perspective to the table. As a diplomat in functional neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board, he has dedicated his career to helping patients navigate the complexities of concussion, brain injuries, neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, and metabolic conditions. Dave's journey is as compelling as it is inspiring. From his early struggles with speech, reading, and writing, which placed him on the neurodevelopmental spectrum, to his personal battles with concussions sustained during high-level rugby and Ironman competitions, his story is one of resilience and discovery. His transformative moment came with simple, seemingly silly exercises prescribed by a fellow functional neurologist, which unexpectedly brought a profound sense of calm and clarity to his life. This personal transformation fueled Dave's passion for functional neurology—a field that bridges the gap between traditional neurology's diagnostic focus and the need for effective rehabilitation. Dave explains how functional neurology employs a tailored approach, utilizing a variety of modalities from eye movements to aromatherapy, to stimulate specific brain pathways for healing. Listeners are treated to a heartwarming success story of a patient who, against all odds, made remarkable progress from a debilitating injury to walking across her daughter's graduation stage. Dave emphasizes that brain health is a continuous journey, encouraging everyone to remain active in seeking new ways to enhance their brain function. The conversation concludes with practical advice, highlighting the importance of breath work as a foundational exercise for brain health, and a rapid-fire round that offers insights into Dave's personal brain health regimen and influential reads. Dr. Dave Hardy's expertise and personal anecdotes leave us with a powerful message: no matter the challenge, there is always a path forward in brain health and wellness. What is functional neurology and who can benefit from it? Can functional neurology make you smarter? What does Dr. Hardy test for to determine the health of the brain? What is the relationship between moving and thinking? How can you address age-related cognitive decline with functional neurology? What is the process of cognitive decline? How does posture connect to the brain? Dr. David Hardy, functional neurologist, uses several techniques that specifically stimulate neuronal receptors, nerves, pathways, and circuits to improve an individual's own neuroplasticity. Through his work, he enhances his patient's brains and nervous systems. He shares what functional neurology is, how it can be used to enhance performance, brain health, and more. So we can appear smart because we're always rehearsed but the rest of the ship might be starting to leak and eventually it's going to lead to a decline in our cognitive thoughts as well.” “Our nervous system is there to regulate our own body against the outside world and to move around, read, and react.” “If you're in the stress posture, what are your head and neck like? They're going forward and you have all this tension through those muscles. All of that is sending signals up to the brain and then that signal fires into our feelings center and then we are annoyed, sore, stiff, and will probably snap at people a lot easier.” “Anything new is going to stimulate the brain in a more impactful way. This is also a way to measure decline as we age. How able are we to actually learn new tasks?” Listen to the SuperAge podcast wherever you get your pods. Reminding you why the Mississippi Gulf Coast is such a great place to live, work, and play
When spouses Dred Scott and Harriet Scott sued for their freedom, on March 6, 1857 the Supreme Court lead by Chief Justice Roger Taney ruled against them and caused outrage by declaring the Missouri Compromise (which had been approved by Congress) unconstitutional as well as denying the right of ANYONE of African descent, free or enslaved, to be a U.S. citizen. Considered one of the worst court decisions ever made, it helped prime the stage for the Civil War.Sources:PBS video What Was the Dred Scott Decision?, 2019 book Dred Scott: The Inside Story by David Hardy, 2016's Dred Scott v. As runners, we don't think about the brain much. Running is really hard sometimes, but not in the way that quadratic equations are hard. So who the hell cares about the brain? Just keep the heart beating and the lungs breathing and let me get on with my race! Well, my guest today thinks that runners should be paying more attention to their brains. If they did, they may be able to enhance performance and avoid injury. Muscle coordination, timing, balance, visual coordination, hormone regulation, motivation, circulation ... the list goes on. We might think we're just running, but the brain is very busy. Performing and coordinating all of these different tasks is a very complicated job. A job that can be performed extremely well, extremely poorly, or anything in between. Functional Neurology seeks to "hack the brain" and find ways to help it perform these tasks more optimally. It is being applied in the Health Sector towards concussion and other brain injury rehabilitation. It can also be applied to the otherwise healthy runner in an effort to improve their performance. My guest today is Dr. Dave Hardy, he is going to be helping us understand Functional Neurology and why runners might want to consider it as a way to get an edge. Dr. Hardy graduated Cum Laude in his Chiropractic class and has received his Diplomate in Functional Neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. He has practiced in North Carolina and Ohio before returning home to Alberta. During his time in the U.S., his primary focus was working with patients struggling with concussions and brain injuries, as well as neurodegenerative, neurodevelopmental, and metabolic conditions. Dr. Hardy also has a passion for pushing himself athletically, he has completed both the full and half-Ironman distances, and played Rugby at a high level. The modern American public school system has never encountered anything like COVID-19... or has it? Within the last 15 years, we have seen schools closed for extended periods due to hurricanes, wildfires, and flooding that forced communities and authorities to partner in finding ways to serve students and families. In this episode, Dr. David Hardy, VP of People & Culture at Education Elements and a former superintendent, wonders how looking closer at analogous situations might help schools and districts return stronger, and more equitably, than ever before.
David Hardy joins us today to discuss the events that occurred in the 51 day siege at Waco, his book, and more. Guest Link David Hardy Books

The past year has brought so many new drug approvals that even some HIV experts are scratching their heads as they try to figure out how all of these meds work and how they can best be used to treat people with HIV. Today, we're going to look at one of the new classes, or types, of HIV medications. Called CCR5 inhibitors, this drug class attacks HIV in a totally new way. Helping us to understand this new drug class will be Dr. David Hardy, a researcher and clinician who is the director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He is also one of the leading researchers looking at Selzentry (maraviroc, Celsentri), the first CCR5 inhibitor to be approved in the United States. He'll give us the lowdown on how this new drug class works and put it into context.
