Pop Culture moments from 2005 that haven't aged well include the "Diversity Day" episode of "The Office", Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah Winfrey's couch, and the reality show "The Will"
At PwC Luxembourg, diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being (DEI&W) aren't just buzzwords. Last week, staff gathered for “Diversity Day,” a flagship event highlighting the company's evolving commitment to workplace culture that is open, inclusive, and supports worker's wellbeing. Organised largely by Gaia, a recent intern from Italy, the event brought together internal diversity networks including: Shine (LGBTQ+), Ability (disability and neurodiversity), LatAm (multicultural backgrounds), Women & Men (gender equity), and Generations (age inclusion). Held in PwC's central atrium, the day featured interactive stands, games, and open conversations. For Marc, a partner with over 30 years at PwC, the DEI journey has been long but meaningful. “We've come a long way from only focusing on gender balance. Now we tackle multiple dimensions of identity and experience,” he said. Marc emphasised that these initiatives are not only ethical imperatives, but also strategic for attracting top talent. “Well-being is business-critical,” he added. May is recognised as European Diversity Month, and PwC Luxembourg sees it as an opportunity not just to celebrate, but to reaffirm its values. “Repeating the message matters,” Marc said. “If we want real inclusion, we can't just talk, we have to act every day.” The message was clear: diversity at PwC isn't about ticking boxes, it's about building a culture where everyone can bring their full selves to work. *This is sponsored content
Send us a textRemember that cringeworthy moment when Michael Scott signed his diversity training completion form as "Daffy Duck"? Or when Kelly slapped him after his offensive impersonation? These unforgettable scenes from The Office's "Diversity Day" episode reveal something fascinating about workplace culture both then and now.Twenty years after this controversial episode first aired, we're taking a deep dive into what made it simultaneously problematic yet ahead of its time. The episode brilliantly showcases what happens when an untrained manager attempts to handle sensitive topics without proper expertise – resulting in multiple terminable offenses that would likely get someone fired on the spot today. What's particularly striking about watching "Diversity Day" in 2024 is noticing how Mr. Brown's professional approach to diversity training was surprisingly progressive for 2005. When he corrects Michael's "I don't see color" statement by explaining that's "fighting ignorance with ignorance" and instead emphasizes celebrating diversity, he articulates principles that have become fundamental to modern DEI work. The episode serves as both a time capsule and a cautionary tale, highlighting an essential lesson for organizations: some training topics require specialized expertise. As HR professionals, we see this episode as a perfect example of why sensitive issues like diversity and inclusion often benefit from bringing in qualified external trainers rather than handling them in-house without proper training.Whether you're an Office superfan or an HR professional looking for entertaining examples of workplace don'ts, join us as we analyze all the cringe, examine what's changed in twenty years, and extract valuable lessons that remain relevant today. And stick around for our next episode where we'll tackle "Healthcare" – another HR nightmare courtesy of Dunder Mifflin's most problematic manager.Support the showWe want to hear from you.Text us or leave a voicemail (252) 564-9899email: feedback@jadedhr.comWant to:* Share a dumb employee question* Share a crazy story* Ask us a question* Share a best practice * Give us feedback Our Link Tree below has links to our social media sites, Patreon, Apple podcasts, Spotify & more. Please leave a review on your favorite podcast player and interact with us online!Linktree - https://linktr.ee/jadedhrFollow Cee Cee on IG - BoozyHR @ https://www.instagram.com/boozy_hr/
Send us a textFive years ago, Warren and Patrick sat down over Mission BBQ to plan a podcast where HR professionals could finally say what they were really thinking. Today, they reunite to reflect on how both Jaded HR and the human resources profession have transformed over half a decade. The conversation takes a nostalgic turn as they reminisce about cubicle life and team shenanigans—from hanging Superman figures above desks to commiserating over challenging employee interactions. Their candid discussion reveals how some of their early HR opinions "aged like milk" when confronted with real workplace discrimination cases, showing the professional growth that comes with experience.Technology emerges as a central theme throughout their discussion. Patrick shares how his role has evolved away from traditional HR toward IT responsibilities, while simultaneously developing AI tools that could potentially automate aspects of his own job. This tension between embracing efficiency-driving technology while worrying about obsolescence reflects challenges facing the entire HR profession. As Warren quotes HR thought leader Tim Sackett: "You're not going to lose your job to AI. You're going to lose your job to someone who knows how to use AI."Looking forward, Warren teases upcoming content including their popular "Office" rewatch series where they analyze the iconic sitcom from an HR perspective. Episodes like "Diversity Day" offer particularly rich material that highlights how workplace norms have evolved dramatically since the show first aired—content that "no major network's going to touch" today.Whether you're an HR professional, someone who works with HR, or simply enjoy workplace stories told with unfiltered honesty, this anniversary episode perfectly captures why Jaded HR continues to resonate after five years. Despite its undercurrent of warmth and optimism, The Office (US) went to some pretty dystopian places in its explorations of the workplace--which were really just reflections of the boring dystopia of our reality. In this episode, we look at how The Office fits within the context of Workplace Dystopian media, works such as Superstore, Office Space, Sorry to Bother You, and Silicon Valley. We also place The Office head-to-head with the most popular workplace dystopia on TV right now, Severance. Our discussion delves into how corporate companies like Dunder Mifflin and Lumon, and those in other workplace dystopian media, use tactics like Diversity Day or "waffle parties" to present a veneer of benevolence to distract workers from how terrible their jobs actually are. But, you know, in a fun way.We also introduce our new segment for this series: The Finer Things Club! We discuss E. M. Forster's novel A Room with a View. It's very exclusive.Further Reading:Corporate Erin on TikTokDefining a Boring DystopiaComparing the workplaces in The Office and Severance

[SEGMENT 1-1] A Very MAGA Christmas 1 As we gather around the Christmas tree this year, sipping eggnog and humming carols, let us reflect on what has been a truly remarkable year for the MAGA movement. It feels almost like a Christmas miracle—or perhaps a whole series of them—that Donald Trump has once again triumphed over the never-ending shenanigans of the Left. From Alvin Bragg's legal circus to Letitia James' wild goose chases, and from the media's collective meltdown to the implosion of Biden's administration, 2024 has been the gift that keeps on giving. So, let's unwrap this year's highlights and sprinkle in some holiday cheer. The Year Kicked Off With Indictment Mania Remember when Alvin Bragg thought he'd deliver the fatal blow to Trump's political career with his "stormy" case involving hush money? Bragg's legal theories were so bizarre they made Rube Goldberg machines look straightforward. While the Manhattan DA was busy turning legal gymnastics into performance art, Trump was busy rallying the nation. Even CNN's legal analysts had to sheepishly admit Bragg's case lacked the teeth they'd hoped for (source). And then there was Fani Willis down in Georgia, valiantly trying to turn a phone call into a criminal enterprise. Her case fizzled faster than a cheap sparkler on New Year's Eve, but not before exposing how desperate the Left had become to smear Trump. [SEGMENT 1-2] A Very MAGA ChristmasThe DOJ's 91 Indictments: All Smoke, No Fire Special Counsel Jack Smith may have managed to stack 91 indictments against Trump, but let's be honest: it was like Geraldo Rivera opening Al Capone's vault. Nothing to see here, folks. Instead of taking Trump down, Smith inadvertently made him the political version of John Wick: the more they attacked, the stronger he became. Even MSNBC had to admit the indictments weren't landing as intended (source). Meanwhile, the DOJ itself unraveled under the weight of its hypocrisy. Hunter Biden's laptop? Ignored. Classified documents at Biden's Delaware home? Brushed under the rug. But try as they might, the American public saw through the double standards. Poll after poll revealed waning trust in the DOJ and FBI, culminating in Christopher Wray's resignation. A Christmas miracle indeed!Santa's New Elves: Trump's Appointments This year, Trump began assembling his administration-in-waiting, and oh, what a lineup it is! Each appointee is a present under the MAGA tree, guaranteed to send shivers down Leftist spines.Mike Davis (Attorney General): Known for his fierce takedowns of judicial overreach, Davis is set to bring the DOJ back in line. Leftists are already clutching their pearls at the thought of real accountability.Kash Patel (Director of National Intelligence): Patel's no-nonsense approach to exposing the Russia hoax makes him the perfect choice to clean house in the intelligence community.Ric Grenell (UN Ambassador): The Left loathes Grenell for his unapologetic America-first diplomacy. Expect him to give the UN a much-needed reality check. Each of these appointments signals a return to common sense and patriotism, and the Left's fear is palpable. The Media's Slow and Painful Demise Let's take a moment to appreciate the glorious collapse of mainstream media. CNN's ratings hit all-time lows, and even their golden girl Kaitlan Collins couldn't save the sinking ship. Joy Reid's MSNBC show? Barely hanging on. Meanwhile, The View's hosts spent more time screaming at each other than discussing coherent topics. The media's meltdown reached peak hilarity when they tried to spin Trump's victories as failures. When polls showed his approval climbing, they insisted the numbers were rigged. It was like watching someone try to argue that Santa doesn't exist while standing in a room full of presents.Holiday Ironies: Biden, Harris, and the “Ho Ho Ho” of Politics Biden's presidency has become the political equivalent of fruitcake—nobody wants it, but it just won't go away. His cognitive decline became impossible to ignore, even for the most loyal Democrats. And then there's Kamala Harris, the vice president who's been snubbed more times than a re-gifted sweater. The Bidens didn't even include her in their Christmas photo—a move so petty it deserves its own Hallmark movie.Kwanzaa and Kamala: A Tale of Two Fictions Speaking of Harris, her attempts to connect with African-American voters by celebrating Kwanzaa have been nothing short of cringe-inducing. Kwanzaa, much like her authenticity, feels manufactured. The internet had a field day mocking her forced enthusiasm, with memes comparing her to Michael Scott's infamous “Diversity Day” antics.Trump's Victory Lap And now, the pièce de résistance: Trump's victory. Despite the Left's relentless efforts to stop him, he's emerged stronger than ever. His rallies are packed, his base is energized, and his policies are resonating with everyday Americans. It's as if the Grinch tried to steal Christmas but ended up handing out gifts instead.Looking Ahead to 2025 As we head into the new year, the MAGA movement is more united than ever. Trump's second term promises to be a renaissance of American greatness, and the Left's tears will be the icing on the Christmas cookies. So here's to a Merry MAGA Christmas and a Happy New Year! May your holidays be filled with laughter, joy, and the sweet satisfaction of knowing that the best is yet to come. Cheers! [SEGMENT 1-3] A Very MAGA Christmas 3 – CR The Kevin Jackson Radio Show: Introduction "Welcome to The Kevin Jackson Radio Show, where we tackle the news the way Democrats handle the truth—recklessly, with a hint of holiday flair. Today, we're diving into the season's hottest topics: doom, debt, and Democrats throwing every trick in their playbook. Because nothing says 'Merry Christmas' like Leftist overreach and apocalyptic predictions. So Merry Xmas from the Democrats who gave us the gift of bigger government spending.Democrats Using the Entire Playbook First, the world will end if we can't fund the government. Forget that we play this little game every year, then we put it on steroids during a presidential transition. In this case, Democrats are jockeying to preserve what they want to call a great presidency, despite them nuking Old Joe into oblivion. Threatening shutdowns, twirling budget debates like a flaming baton. It's like Christmas caroling, but with fewer harmonies and more taxpayer extortion. Democrats claim the world will end if we don't raise the debt ceiling. Isn't it funny how we never run out of ways to spend money we don't have? And interestingly, we never seem to run out of money. Consider this: the national debt balloons yearly, no matter what legislation is passed—Balanced Budget Amendments, Pay-Go rules, you name it. The Democrats' new rallying cry? Save Christmas by saving government jobs. But let's be real. What happens when non-essential government employees are furloughed? Nothing. So, why do we have non-essential employees at all? Isn't “non-essential” just code for “we hired them because we can”? Trump sniffed out their treachery, because the stench of a Democrats can be smelled for miles by even the least sensitive nose. Trump had them rewrite the bill, shrinking it from 1500+ pages to 90ish. And Democrats declined to pass it. Who can blame them, as Trump's bill only contained the necessities and not all the pork Democrats are used to getting. But they do have a good reason to want the old bill: to save Christmas! The Budget Battle: Grinch Edition Now back to Hakeem Jeffries, who warns that without funding, Christmas will collapse. Flights will stop, chaos will ensue, and—wait for it—people will die in the streets. Someone hand this guy a script for It's a Wonderful Life. Funny thing is, every time we hit a budget crisis, the government shuts down briefly, everyone panics, and then… employees get paid anyway. So here's my question: why don't we trim the fat permanently? If a position is “non-essential,” it's probably also “non-taxpayer-worthy.” Let's give these people the greatest Christmas gift of all: a reason to update their résumés[SEGMENT 1-4] A Very MAGA Christmas 4 - Existential threats I looked up all the things that are existential threats. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/threats-civilization-survival-humanity-apocalypse Nuclear war Bioengineered pandemic Superintelligence (quantum computing) Nanotechnology Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.

Inklusion gehe uns alle etwas an, sagt LaGrande.

Letzteres an konkreten Beispielen. Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College
Northeast Mississippi Community College president Dr. Ricky G. Ford sits with Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Liz Calvery and changes up the format of TigerTalk. Instead of two questions and limited discussion, the two hosts focus on one main issue for an extended time and then head into the Northeast News. In this interview, Calvery and Ford discuss how Northeast promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus through various events such as Diversity Day and the creation of the Diversity Committee, as well as in the broader community as a whole. To wrap up the time, Ford gives listeners the Northeast News and discusses upcoming events on the college's calendar. For those who may have missed an episode, all Northeast TigerTalk episodes are archived at https://nemcctigertalk.simplecast.com.

Last week, a House Judiciary Committee held a hearing called “Free Speech: The Biden Administration's Chilling of Parents' Fundamental Rights,” with conservative speakers from Moms for Liberty and Parents Defending Education. But where were the moms who support diversity? And what about the students themselves? Where were their voices? With yet another tragic school shooting this week, we have to ask ourselves… when will we listen to kids and value their lives more than we value guns? This week, we hear from Claire Mengel, a young activist from Cincinnati who organized against the cancellation of Diversity Day in their high school. Claire shares why their school board canceled the event in the first place and why they felt it was so important to stand up for diversity. And even more importantly, Claire shares why it's so crucial to listen to students about their own lived experiences and what adults can do to help. Then Rachel sits down with Porsche Joseph, an activist, educator, and co-author of the book Better Than We Found It: Conversations To Help Save the World. The book is aimed at young adults, but anyone can get so much out of its explorations of topics like gun violence, immigration, and health care. Rachel and Porsche chat about supporting young people, what it was like to write a book with her husband, and what Elizabeth Warren is like in real life! Finally, Amanda, Rachel and Jasmine raise a glass to birthdays and passing bills in this episode's “Toast to Joy.”The Wisconsin Supreme Court election on April 4th could decide the future of abortion rights in Wisconsin, as well as redistricting and voting rights, which could have a huge impact on the 2024 election. So if you or anyone you know lives in Wisconsin, please be sure to vote before April 4th! Al Gore says "we are still failing badly" with regards to Climate Change dangers being mitigated by the World Economic Forum. By this, he of course means that the world's wealthiest and most powerful underdogs need to do more to stop little people like you and me from driving internal combustion engine vehicles, or heating and electrifying our homes with affordable fossil fuels. Perhaps no one has told him the good news, that Japan's prime minister recently announced that country is on the brink of falling apart due to the inheritors of the samurai not having babies. Either way, on the plus side, this will mean fewer consumers, and a country with no people in it will presumably be carbon neutral. But speaking of carbon, I wonder what Gore, Jr. would say, whose father was once upon a time the VP of Occidental Petroleum, and sat on its board of directors, if he read this article from Answers in Genesis from 2006, by Dr. Andrew A. Snelling, titled 'The Origin of Oil.' Would he moderate his doomsday predictions, for instance, or reduce the footprint of his megalomaniacal demagoguery, if he believed God may have put that oil and gas underground with the Great Deluge? No matter, I suppose. Gore would probably still prefer Sid's theology and politics over Provorov's. The culture war has its sights set on the NHL. In the words of Michael Scott, from the episode of The Office which was removed from Comedy Central's rerun schedules, "This is an environment of welcoming, and you should just get the hell out of here." Meanwhile, those of us otherwise excluded can nevertheless cheer on the likes of Congressman Buddy Carter from Georgia, for putting forward legislation to abolish the IRS, and replace income and payroll taxes with national sales taxes. Or maybe we can affirm a different kind of couple, from the sort applauded by the woke folk, who love the LGBTQ++ in the name of toleration, but so often loathe and detest any who abstain from joining in celebrating vice, because they cannot do so with a clear conscience. William and Bonnie Daniels, for instance, married for 71 years, since 1951, recovered from an open marriage in the 1970's to stick it out the last 50. In their words, it just didn't work, but was very painful, to be faithless. And so long as we don't make any mention of Christian faith, and keep it all prudential up in here, I suppose Sid will be able to contain himself. Or else maybe someone will say Hollywood is for everyone, just like hockey is supposed to be, or the WEF's global agenda, and the Great Reset. The fine print in all of the above is that intolerance will not be tolerated, even if it comes only in so mild a form as refusal to affirm and participate personally. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/garrett-ashley-mullet/message

Donald Trump & His Allies Are A Clear & Present Danger To American DemocracyThis is a quote from former Federal Judge Mike Luttig testifying on the January 6th committee hearing about his own party. Luttig said the United States is at a crossroads similar to the one the country faced during the Civil War, and he said America needs help. Then we'll talk to Professor Wendy Strickler, Phd., who is a Forest Hills School District mom, Asst. Professor at Mt. St. Joseph University and former unsuccessful school board candidate who will talk about the district's recent passage of a policy banning teachers from any instruction or counsel against racism or gay discrimination. At the same recent meeting, the radical (Republican Party endorsed) board denied allowing a voluntary Diversity Day at the district's two high schools next year. She feels this Republican takeover of local school boards is a national strategy.Musical guest: Josh Beddis from Wales plays his song City Lights.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DrqWMi-Kso See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In honor of Pride month, this week, Drewby and Yergy discuss the tragic case of Charlie Howard, a young gay man that was murdered in Bangor, ME in 1984, who never really received justice due to his sexual orientation. As Howard and his boyfriend, Roy Ogden, were walking down the street, three teenagers, Shawn Mabry, James Baines, and Daniel Ness, harassed, assaulted, and murdered Howard for being gay. The youths chased the pair, yelling homophobic epithets, until they caught Howard and threw him over the State Street Bridge into the Kenduskeag Stream, despite his pleas that he could not swim. He drowned, but his boyfriend escaped and pulled a fire alarm. Charlie Howard's body was found by rescue workers several hours later. The boys were sent to the Hancock County Jail and later released into their parents' custody. They were tried as juveniles and sentenced on 1 October 1984 to the Maine Youth Center not to exceed their 21st birthdays, however all parties served less than 24 months. This event galvanized the Bangor community in ways similar to the killing of Matthew Shepard, although the case never attained the same level of national notoriety. This incident inspired a similar scene near the beginning of Stephen King's novel It, in which three homophobic teenagers throw an openly gay man, Adrian Mellon, over a bridge and into the Kenduskeag, where he was set upon and murdered by the monster It in the form of Pennywise. Today, a short distance from the site of Howard's death, a memorial has been erected; engraved on the stone are the words: “May we, the citizens of Bangor, continue to change the world around us until hatred becomes peacemaking and ignorance becomes understanding.” July 7, Howard's death date, is now Diversity Day in Bangor.
