Email an: felix@einfachschlagzeug.de Yeah!!! Travis Dempsey grew up in rural Victoria in a dysfunctional family. At 15 he spent his time skateboarding, getting in fights with his mates, and moving from school to school as a result of this behavior. A high school teacher changed his life and set him on his musical path when he sent Travis to a time-out room that contained an old drum kit. Travis began hitting the drums and instantly felt connected to this instrument. Travis's family wasn't in a position to be able to afford to purchase a kit for him, and once again his teacher helped him by delivering a very basic kit to his home. He eventually joined a band with friends called 'Slaves of Pain', gigging locally. Travis left school when he was 16, first working as an apprentice Boiler Maker for about 4 or 5 months, and then as an apprentice Horticulturist until he decided to move away from the family home, making his way to Melbourne where he lived in Fitzroy. He managed to get a job working at Drummers Paradise in Richmond and began making connections with other musicians and playing in a variety of bands. Travis then got a job at the iconic Revolver Drum Shop which was located in Prahran, and it was while he was working there that he met Chris the bass player from The Living End. Chris mentioned that they were looking for a new drummer, so Travis who was looking for a regular band to play with told him that he would be interested in having a go. Chris gave him a demo tape and they arranged a time for Travis to come and have a jam. Travis initially didn't feel as though he was the right guy for the band, but on his third jam with the guys, he decided to play the songs his own way, this time it worked and he became their new drummer. After a year of solid touring things began to skyrocket after the release of the double A-side single, a single ‘Second Solution / Prisoner of Society' that had the band breaking records, with it becoming the highest-selling single of the '90s, scoring the band an ARIA Award and a whole lot more attention both nationally and internationally, with World Tours alongside AC /DC, Green Day, The Offspring, Chilli Peppers, Rancid, and Silver Chair. Playing and headlining international Festivals, TV Appearances on David Letterman, and Conan O Brian, living the life that most aspiring musicians can only dream about, a world of rock stardom. Then after five and a half years, he decided to give up the rock star lifestyle, choosing instead to explore new avenues and musical ventures, working with and creating programs for kids that encouraged them to follow their dreams and pursue their passion for music, no matter what limits society had placed on them. Travis become a youth worker for the not-for-profit organization 'Whitelion' initially working with young offenders, the focus on youth justice became a core strength recognized by governments, the youth sector, corporates, and the general community as making a real difference to young people's lives. He also went to talk in adult prisons throughout Melbourne. During this time Travis set up his own Drum Tech business, working on hundreds of albums and hiring out drum kits for some of the best drummers in the world. He joined the Celt rockers 'The Currency' and played with them until joining the Melbourne three-piece band 'Doubleblack' in late 2012, which allowed him to contribute to the songwriting for their new music. Travis moved to South Australia and continues to work as a Music Youth Officer for local governments. Music "Band It About" theme song written by Catherine Lambert & Michael Bryant. "Renegade" by Doubleblack, Matt Black, formerly of The Fireballs on guitar and lead vocals, Jason Skewes on double bass, and Travis Dempsey on drums. On this week's show, we had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Armando Aguirre, Guitar Tech and Stage Manager for over 15 years. Taking a chance opportunity back in 2004, Amando's epic career begins with finding himself hanging out in an Amsterdam coffee shop with the original drummer of Guns N Roses, Steven Adler, and then being hired as his Drum Tech for the next few years. What follows is a journey of great experiences with bands such as RATT, Pop Will Eat Itself, Death Angel, and many more. In more recent years, Armando had the unique honor of being Devin Townsend's Guitar Tech for nearly 7 years, learning and perfecting his craft before beginning his current role back in 2013 by joining one of the 'Big Four' of American Thrash Metal, the mighty Anthrax. SPART 30 SAISON 2! Simple Plan, Metric, Of Monsters And Men, Arcande Fire, Kevin Parent, etc. LIFE. iTunes         Spotify         Youtube           Patreon  Thank you all so much for joining me on this incredible journey!  TJ’s story originally started in the late 1980’s as a roadie for several New Jersey club bands. After a brief time at New Jersey’s legendary Trax East Recording studio, he spent most of the 1990’s and 2000’s crisscrossing the planet with bands like M.O.D, Agnostic Front, Ignite and many more. Along the way, he formalized his work with the creation Iron Sound Productions; a company providing back line, sound re-enforcement and tour logistics. By 2000, he was pulling triple duty as Tour Manager, Drum Tech and Guitar Tech for Skid Row, who was opening on the legendary KISS Farewell Tour (last tour with the original members of the band), and included a set by Ted Nugent. As the miles and years on the road continued to stack up, he further earned the respect and trust of peers in the industry. Coming off his last tour, after spending over 20 years on the road, was a time of reflection for TJ; the realization that he was just a local kid from Jersey who had the honor to travel and share a stage with some of the biggest bands in the world. There were more than enough All Access stories to fill the pages of a book, but this wasn’t a story to just be seen through the interpreted imagination of a reader. Throughout all his travels, he had been compiling video footage of life on the road. There wasn’t a story to be written. It was a story that had to be seen. First hand.  Using his video archive as a basis, he starting from the ground up recording new footage. Talking directly to Roadies; helping his peers to open up to the camera, so he could capture the film in reality. In the life that it is lived, not just as it could be filmed. He knew the business first hand. He knew the life first hand. He had lived that life. His production would be at a level never infiltrated or presented. Without this bonding of a brotherhood he shared, this film and other related projects could never have happened. William is the man behind all the live drum sounds of an Eric Church arena show. Don't count William out as a player though. He has quite the impressive resume. We learn what it's like touring on the crew side with one of the biggest acts of the past five years. Wanna know how to get those drum sounds? Wanna work on crew for a major tour? Have you ever wanted to transition careers or vocations? William's story is interesting in the fact that you never know what this life of a musician will take you. You could end up as one of the most sought after drum techs or as we like to call him…Church Tech.
