A term has been gaining traction over the last few years: AuDHD. Today, Emily Kircher-Morris is talking with Mattia Maurée, a neurodivergent individual who is both ADHD and autistic. They talk about how the two diagnoses blend together, one side desiring routine and sameness, while the other seeks novelty and change. They also discuss the challenges of receiving accurate diagnoses, the impact of stigma on neurodivergent individuals, how career pathways are affected, Mattia's personal experiences of being misunderstood and judged, and the importance of community. The conversation covers many other subjects as well, and is also part of an earlier episode. Receiving accurate diagnoses for neurodivergent individuals can be challenging, as the symptoms of different conditions can overlap and mask each other. Finding a career that aligns with one's interests and strengths is crucial for neurodivergent individuals. Community support and understanding are essential for neurodivergent individuals to thrive and feel deeply understood. Mattia Maurée is an AuDHD coach and host of the AuDHD Flourishing Podcast. Creative outlets in music and the arts became their refuge through a childhood full of unpredictability. Confronting their trauma sparked an interest in the topic and Mattia led them to their autism diagnosis in their 30's, as well as finding somatic neurodivergent-friendly methods of working through their depression and anxiety. Danielle goes dystopic with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. This 2020 prequel to The Hunger Games follows the charming romantic misadventures of Cornelius Snow; the charismatic ne'er-do-well who brought us such classics as failing to kill Katniss Everdeen, destroying his own despotic regime, and not understanding the plight of the common man. Flashback to teenage Cornelius who has been tapped for the prestigious role as mentor in the tenth annual Hunger Games. Once wealthy, his family has fallen on hard times and thanks to the promise of a monetary prize to the mentor of the best-in-show tribute, he is in it to win it. Unfortunately, he gets assigned the suckiest tribute: the girl from district 12. Bummer. Just kidding. She sings! And wears colors! And has a weird affinity for snakes! Cornelius can work with that. Unfortunately, though ten years into the Games, they are shockingly ill-run and Sam and Danielle have THOUGHTS. The Gamemaker is more concerned with creating mutated animals that will not help them keep their dystopia in check, they did not invest in an event planner, and nobody has thought to feed the tributes. We need moral men and women, but moralism damages the foundation of heart-change.  It's okay to pit grace against moralism, but let's not pit grace against morality. On the morning of April 19, 1995, a former US Army soldier parked a rented Ryder truck in front of the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building, located in downtown Oklahoma City.   Inside the truck was everything he needed to carry out his plan of terrorism and mass murder. He had a large bomb, which he created using agricultural fertilizer and some chemicals, including diesel fuel. After parking the car, he got out and walked toward his getaway car, a yellow Mercury Marquis.   He ignited a timed fuse, and a second fuse as backup.   Inside the building, in one of the office conference rooms, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board had just begun a 9 am meeting.   The blast effect was equivalent to over 5000 pounds of TNT, and could be heard and felt 55 miles away. The blast either destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a 4-block radius. 86 cars were either burned or destroyed, and a large section of the Federal building had been reduced to rubble. News crews were shocked when they first viewed the damage from their helicopter.   Inside the building, 163 people were killed. Additional casualties were one person in the nearby Athenian building, one woman in a parking lot across the street, two people in the Oklahoma Water Resources building, and a rescue worker who was struck on the head by falling debris. In total, 168 people died that day. 19 of those were children. Almost 700 other people were injured.   My guest today, Amy, was in the Federal Building that morning. She worked on the third floor, at the Federal Employees Credit Union.   You're about to hear her talk about what happened to her that day. But just as amazing is what has happened to her SINCE that day.   And on top of that – this is a Flashback episode. Amy told this story on the podcast about 5 years ago.
