In this episode, we explore the power of purposeful play in education. Join us as we discuss the importance of play in the learning process, the Connecticut legislation about play in elementary grades, and the benefits of purposeful play for students. We also delve into the Lego study that highlights the positive impact of play on learning in K-8 students. We emphasize the importance of putting kids in the driver's seat, exploring concepts, making connections, and conducting experiments. We also discuss how building models and using natural curiosity can help students learn effectively. We encourage teachers to allow kids to find their own solutions and provide time for them to share and discuss their thought process. We believe that purposeful play empowers students and reimagines the classroom experience. It allows everyone to find success and reach their full potential. We acknowledge the challenges of implementing purposeful play, but we emphasize the importance of engaging with the information, discussing it, and using ideas in different ways. We also highlight the need for teachers to experience playful learning firsthand and to receive ongoing professional learning. Finally, we discuss the role of principals in creating a culture of purposeful play in schools.Play is about being in the moment. Purposeful play happening when we get to the goal of learning. CT Legislation about play in elementary gradesOver-engineering vs. open ended play. Lego Study about K-8 students - play is a great way to help them learn. Students were more excited to go to school when they had play. Play can take so many different forms. Putting kids in the driver's seatExploring conceptsMaking connectionsExperimentsBuilding modelsUse natural curiosity. Allow kids to find their own solutionsTime to share and discuss how they got there. When we can really interact with the informationPurposeful play will empower us to reimagine the classroom experience. Everybody can find success with purposeful play. Everybody can reach the bar that is appropriate for them. The challenge is that it takes so long to do these other thingsEngage with the information, discussion, then use ideas in a different way. How we wrap them together really matters. It can feel uncomfortable to do something new. Teachers need the love and opportunities, too. Teachers deserve some playful learning, too. Give teachers that experience first as a learner, and here are tools for you to use as well. Ongoing professional learning. How to be a transformative principal? In this episode… Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts are evolving, and it's crucial that your firm keeps up. But DEI is not one-size-fits-all, and it's not just a series of programs. So, how can your firm figure out what works — and avoid what doesn't work — when it comes to DEI initiatives? As a Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer and an employment lawyer who helps others realize their DEI visions, Kimya Johnson knows the best practices for building and expanding DEI initiatives. She says that first, you must assess your firm's current position. Next, you need to develop a strategy that addresses the goals and vision of your firm. What are you looking to achieve, and how does your strategy advance your people and business? The final step is putting people in place who marry their professional skills with their passion for DEI. In this episode of The Lawyer's Edge Podcast, Elise Holtzman is joined by Kimya Johnson, Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer and Principal of the Corporate Diversity Counseling Practice Group at Jackson Lewis. Kimya talks about changing trends in law firms, how to measure success with your DEI initiatives, and why action and authenticity are so integral to your initiative.

“If I were asked, now that I am drawing to the close of this work, in which I have spoken of so many important things done by the Americans, to what the singular prosperity and growing strength of that people ought mainly to be attributed, I should reply—to the superiority of their women.” — Alexis de Tocqueville, 1840 Imagine being a woman in 1822 in rural America — a mother of four, with your next child due in a month — and your husband suddenly and unexpectedly dying. What would you do? For most women, there was no choice; but for Sarah Josepha Hale, this tragic life event is what set her in a direction that influenced much of 19th century America. Melanie Kirkpatrick has written the definitive biography about her impact: Lady Editor: Sarah Josepha Hale and the Making of the Modern American Woman. In it, we learn of a woman driven by principle and passion, who disrupted norms but was civil about it. It's the story of influence, transformation, and some surprising elements.   Full show notes are available at: https://www.timelesstimely.com/p/influential-woman Please subscribe to the Timeless & Timely newsletter and tell others about us. In this special episode of the podcast, Loral is interviewed by Michelle from the New Mid podcast. Loral explains that the "normal" system we grow up in does not set us up for financial freedom. In the episode, Loral shares strategies for both adults and children on how to make their money work for them. She also shares how to grow wealth in mid-life.  Loral was single and expecting her first child when she realized she needed to rely on herself. The system that we are raised in does not set us up for financial freedom. At that moment she chose to make a great life. After receiving the most Influential Woman in Radio award in 2017, she had a meeting with her boss only to be unexpectedly let go from the company she had helped build. What could have been a roadblock for success turned out to be the best thing that could've happened to her. Show Notes: [01:32] Loral shares about her journey and what drives her.  She committed her life to study how people really become millionaires.   [03:36] You get what you create and think about. Don’t speak to fear at all.  If you want to be wealthy, you will be in good debt.   [05:46] Lean in and learn it instead of fearing it. Learn about it and you won’t fear it.  [07:08] Women outlive men statistically.  The new statistic is that women outlive men by 8 to 10 years now.   [08:51] It is everyone’s responsibility to know the money.  Even if you’re not the primary one making it. You need to know where it is and how to access it.  [09:21] So what, now what. So what, it has happened.  Now, what do you want to do about it? At this moment choose and make it the greatest life that you want to make it.  [11:42] Loral has a whole structure on how to get your kids through college not as a cost, but instead as a deduction.  She starts with her kids when they are born.  [12:34] Start talking about money with your kids now.  You should have Monopoly, The Cash Flow Game, and The Millionaire Maker Game. Play them in this order.  [14:02] Kids cannot begin building their own credit until they are eighteen.   [15:30] Never pay your kids an allowance.  An allowance is like a paycheck so you are conditioning them to be an employee.  [16:08] Start with a checking and savings account when they are born.  At 10, they get a car savings account.  They have six years to earn their car.  [18:44] A job isn’t where the money comes from.  It just happens to be your choice for right now.   [19:28] Being an entity is an intention to live your life.    [20:03] If you are an individual you don’t get the benefit of a lot of deductions. When you get an entity it is different because you legally own a company.   [21:58] School designed you to become an employee.  [23:54] Your first $100,000 for everybody is the toughest money you will ever make because we are conditioned to be employees.   [24:21] Mentors are so important.  Entrepreneurs have to lead entrepreneurs. We have to help each other get through that first part.  [25:41] Grab Loral’s Virtual Swag Bag here.  [26:54] Do not use a credit card to invest. Once you make your money, put it to work and invest it.   [27:42] Women are starting businesses faster because their need for money is typically so much higher.  Women tend to move toward that six-figure mark but not to the seven.  Only 3% of percent of women on the planet go into the millions in a business.  [28:11] You want to change lives, make a million bucks. A lot of women don’t get to where high, high money is made.  [29:05] Your first six are the roughest six, you might as well go to seven. You already have the hard work done.   Links and Resources: Ask Loral App: https://apple.co/3eIgGcX  Loral on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/askloral/  Loral on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/lorallive/videos  Loral on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lorallangemeier/  Money Rules: https://integratedwealthsystems.com/money-rules/  Millionaire Maker Store: https://millionairemakerstore.com/  Real Money Talks Podcast: https://integratedwealthsystems.com/podcast/  Integrated Wealth Systems: https://integratedwealthsystems.com/  Affiliate Sign-Up: https://integratedwealthsystems.com/affiliates The New Mid Podcast: https://www.thenewmid.com/podcast/lorallangemeier Think and Grow Rich for Women: https://shopintegratedwealthsystems.com/products/think-grow-rich-for-women Loral’s Virtual Swag Bag: https://justmetloral.com/podcasts/

Sam Liebowitz, will discuss all types of topics to help you raise your awareness [EPISODE] Digital Disruption and Career Confusion This week, on The Conscious Consultant Hour, Sam welcomes Researcher, Speaker, and Author, Dr. Tracey Wilen. Dr. Tracey Wilen is a researcher and speaker on the impact of technology on society, work, and careers. A former visiting scholar at Stanford University, she has held leadership positions at Apple, HP, and Cisco Systems. She was an adjunct professor for Bay area colleges teaching classes in business, technology and women's workforce topics. Dr. Wilen was named San Francisco Woman of the Year (WOW) and honored by the San Francisco Business Times as the most Influential Woman in Bay Area Business. She is a finalist for 2018 Women Advocate of the Year for Women in Technology (WIT). Dr. Wilen has authored 13 books, her newest book is Career Confusion: 21st Century Career Management in a Disrupted World  it was named Bloomberg's top business book for 2018 and is a companion book to Digital Disruption; The Future of Work, Skills, Leadership, Education and Careers in a Digital World. Tune in for this transformational discussion at TalkRadio.nyc or watch the Facebook Livestream by clicking here. Segment 1 Sam kicks the show off with his quotes from the Universe and Abraham. The Universe touches on the subject of the uniqueness of everyone's spiritual journey and Sam relates this to his own journey starting back in his college days. Abraham says our natural state of being is feeling good. He also says that happiness is achievable by letting go and focusing on things that make us feel good and lift us up.  Sam goes on to introduce his guest today, Tracey Wilen. Wasting no time the conversation launches into the constant presence of technology in daily life and business. Segment 2 The discussion moves to technology in the workplace as well as the market of STEM oriented jobs. The working landscape has also changed with people holding multiple jobs, careers, gigs, etc. Tracey attributes this to the pervasive nature of technology allowing us to do more at any given moment. On top of this some jobs seem to be disappearing almost entirely. Technology seems to have its impact on these too with the emergence of AI and the obsoletion of human workers with introduction of robots and other machine aid. The key is to observe your life around you and see how technology can help you expand or how you can exploit technology. Segment 3 Sam mentions the 13 books that Tracey has authored, and asks her inspiration for her newest books Career Confusion and Digital Disruption. The conversation shifts to steps one can take to prepare oneself for the ever-changing job market coming out of education. One must remain malleable in skill set and be aware of changing technology and how it may help you. Segment 4 Tracey advises job seekers in 2019 to find out what you like to do and are good enough at doing it to get paid for it. On top of that, Tracey says to eliminate the noise around you achieving your goal. One should look at what's around them too to help decide where to focus their energy. Looking to the next five years Tracey would encourage a younger person to focus their energy in security. Tracey says technology is here to help solve problems and be applied and one can look to different fields to apply technology.
