Robert has co-written a song with Garry Tallent at a songwriters retreat. He has been described as 'the Scouse Springsteen' by Q Magazine. The legendary Bob Harris is a big fan of this award-winning singer-songwriter from Liverpool. AND ..... his new album Barriers is riding high in the charts alongside Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Luke Combs. We record this episode live in the cafe with the help of Rosalita's home made chocolate cookies. For more information, check out https://robertvincentmusic.com
As The 4 of Us prepare to release our latest album, 'Crescent Nights', I thought it would be fun to explore the albums that have led us to this moment. Joining me for this journey is my good friend and co-host, Greg Canty (host of the WinHappy podcast). In today's episode, we dive into the making of our second album, 'Man Alive'. Did we suffer from the notorious "sophomore slump?” With Man Alive making it into Q Magazine's Top 50 albums of the year and our single 'She Hits Me; brushing the UK charts, we certainly faced some memorable highs and hurdles. Enjoy the show Brendan Brendan Murphy, THE 4 OF US This podcast has been produced by Fuzion.
On this week's episode of 10/10 You're Great the boys were so busy smelling the VD in the club tonight they didn't even bother to stop and consider if they should. That's right, its the so-sexed-up-it's-not-sexy-but-then-comes-around-to-being-sexy-again masterwork that was once rated by Q Magazine as the 50th worst album of all time: Midnite Vultures. The people didn't get it but finally, 25 years later someone does and it's us. Also up for discussion: lip filler and how you should never comment on a woman's appearance [Chris] plus hop water ASMR, several albums turn certain ages, and a re-litigation of the Meek Mill(s) drama. Can I Pod With Madness - Kerrang, Metal Hammer and rock in the 1980s
This is Can I Pod With Madness so why the hell are we talking about Elvis Costello, The Fine Young Cannibals and Freiheit? Well we've put away childish things (temporarily) and decided to get all sophisticated by looking at an issue of Q Magazine, the *modern* guide to music and more. The original idea was to mix things up a bit and not talk about the same bands all the time, but we do happen to have landed on an issue with a pretty hefty feature on Guns n' Roses, so we're not exactly reinventing the wheel here. Along the way we'll be talking about rock movies, singing actors, Tom Cruise's bad poetry, and the thing that Cliff Richard doesn't wear. Also we've got the first of our DEEP KUTZ (and a rumination on the jam band boom of the early 90s), and, in the run up to Halloween, maybe a spooky story or two Recorded 27th September 2023 Check out pics from the issue on our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/podwithmadness/ YouTube playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6jGszBq8BFHFm7uddhMJ47gpLGTzYJPK&si=0Phb0AmP3Fnu4mQY Tip us on ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/podwithmadness CAN I POD WITH MADNESS THEME by Oliver Gardiner https://www.instagram.com/revilorenidrag/

Today's rockstar guest is a member of one of the most iconic, influential, unpredictable and vital forces in American rock music, The Flaming Lips. During their tenure, their ever-evolving, GRAMMY Award-winning sound has become a genre unto itself and contains lush, multi-layered arrangements. Lyrically, their compositions reflect the light and dark in all of us combined with bold experimental production that breathes life into their space-age-prog, punk pop and appeals to a broad spectrum of music lovers around the globe. Known for their elaborate live stage shows, THE LIPS have become the ultimate live rock experience with the likes of Q Magazine and Rolling Stone naming The Flaming Lips one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die." Their reputation as canny songwriters and great performers have made The LIPS an actively sought out collaborative entity who have participated in numerous, oddly diverse recorded and live performances that include Yoko Ono, David Lynch, Philip Glass, Bon Iver, Lightning Bolt, Coldplay, Beck, Nick Cave, Erykah Badu, Thievery Corporation, Grace Potter, The Chemical Brothers, Jim James, Miley Cyrus and many more. The band recently achieved yet another set of “Firsts” by being the first band to perform prophylactically for late night TV (Colbert/Fallon), and NPR's Tiny Desk Concert. In January 2021, The Lips played The World's First-Ever Space Bubble Concerts with band and audience safely encased and physically distanced within their own individual clear Space Bubbles in their hometown of Oklahoma City. And The Writer Is… Wayne Coyne!Artwork: Michael Richey White See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Cathy Dennis has more than earned her place as a Pop Princess. In fact, if it wasn't for her, many fellow music royals wouldn't have some of their biggest hits. Kylie, Britney, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, Pink, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Little Mix – they've all recorded songs written by Cathy, to name only a few. A British singer, songwriter and music producer, Cathy Dennis has previously been called “one of the most influential people in the music industry” by Q Magazine.
The Osmonds “The Plan" (1973) The platitudes are vague enough, the admonishments placid enough, the complaints about society inoffensive enough. Kolob was/is a Mormon magical land with...never mind. Look it up. Kolob Records was the exclusive domain of the Osmond family (Jimmy, too--in fact he was making records in Japan as early as 1969 and his hit in the US, "Long-Haired Lover From Liverpool" featured The Mike Curb Congregation, which we have played on this show many times) and in 1973 Kolob released this. It's very professionally done. There's instrumental virtuosity in many styles. Makes for a pretty good listen once or twice, but I think it ruined their credibility in the younger market. Both "Goin' Home" and "Let Me In" reached #36 on the Billboard chart. This album didn't reach #50. POACA might recall that at one time The Osmonds roamed the teeny-bopper landscape free of predators, and actually charted 4 Top 10 hits. I thought it was more. And my sister bought every Tiger Beat and Teen Beat magazine she could find. Always Donny's toothy grin. And she also bought a few Osmond albums, including this one. I want the one they released ONLY in Japan, The Wonderful World Of The Osmonds. Because I love that shit. My birthday is coming up in 10 months. Might as well? Both Donny and Marie would try to change their images down the road, but when this came out, it was really the beginning of the end for any question of artistic integrity. War In Heaven Traffic In My Mind Before The Beginning Movie Man Let Me In One Way Ticket To Anywhere Are You Up There It's Alright Mirror, Mirror Darlin' The Last Days Goin' Home Lou Christie Selections from "Paint America Love" (1971) I came across this album when I was heavy into Q Magazine out of England. They did an article about it and I tried to find my own copy. And I like it. I find that Lou Christie is just a little different, a little more daring than his contemporaries. He tried and failed at much, but what hit, I really love. I will never not be fascinated by Paint America Love. Look Out The Window Wood Child Paint America Love Buddy and Cathy Rich - The Beat Goes On (1967) Dyke and the Blazers - Let a Woman Be a Woman, Let A Man Be A Man (1969) Funk band formed in 1965 in Phoenix, Arizona. Best known for their 1966 hit single Funky Broadway, later even more successfully covered by Wilson Pickett. The band was disbanded when bandleader "Dyke" Arlester Christian was shot to death in 1971. Eddie and Dutch - My Wife The Dancer (1970) G. C. Cameron - If You Don't Love Me (1974) Written by Stevie Wonder. G. C. sang both lead parts on The Spinners' big hit, 1970's "It's a Shame", co-written and produced by Stevie, and remained with Motown as a solo artist when The Spinners left Motown in 1971. Although Cameron was not a major-seller for the label, he did have a hit with "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday", the theme song of the 1975 film Cooley High, which was later covered to great success by Boyz II Men. Gene Vincent - Be Bop A Lula '69 (1969) Produced by our friend Kim Fowley. Lou Christie - Genesis and the Third Verse (1968) I love Lou's collabs with his Gypsy pal, Twyla Herbert. Herbert was born in Riverside, California. Christie was 15 years old when he met Herbert, a "bohemian gypsy, psychic, and former concert pianist," at an audition in a church basement in his hometown, Glenwillard, Pennsylvania. She was over 20 years older than him, with flaming red hair, a self-described clairvoyant and mystic who allegedly predicted which of their songs would become hits. They co-wrote "Lightning Strikes". The Jackson Five - Doctor My Eyes (1973) Yes, The Jackson Five covered Jackson Browne. John Travolta - Razzamatazz (1976) Julie London - Louie Louie (1969) King Crimson - Cirkus (1971) Renaissance - Can You Understand (1973)

GOOD Friday, great episode. Yes, we’ve finally done it, and it only took a crucifixion to convince us. To honour this episode’s release day, we’re focusing our Top 5 on the show’s patron saint, Kanye West (sorry Frank). But before that main event, we tackle big news from the My Bloody Valentine camp, somehow round-up all the latest non-fungible controversy and discuss the somewhat miraculous return of The Antlers. Easter might be a moveable feast but NO ENCORE is your weekly music mainstay. So tuck in…ACT ONE: Craig and Dave brace themselves for what may well be a divisive episode. So… what’s new?ACT TWO (5:35): Yes, we’ve bought more vinyl. And yes, it’s actually newsworthy. The big question is whether Kevin Shields is really going to grace us with two new My Bloody Valentine albums anytime soon… Other pressing questions this news section: are you interested in a 20 quid Glastonbury show, would you let Matt Willis prick you and are non-fungible tokens “the most disgusting things on the planet right now”? Lindsay Lohan has an answer for at least one of these.ACT THREE (23:41): Peter Silberman has battled stark hearing problems to deliver The Antlers’ sixth studio album, an unflappable record that finds him opting for zen-like serenity. The lads openly wept when they last saw The Antlers live. How will they react during this album review?ACT FOUR (39:00): Our Top 5 Kanye West Songs. Have your NO ENCORE bingo cards at the ready. Naturally featuring Craig reading from a 16 year-old issue of Q Magazine.Q might be a thing of the past but if you fancy helping this musical outlet survive and indeed thrive, you can head on over to patreon.com/noencore. We greatly appreciate it!
Join Emme Lentino as she chats with the gorgeous and talented, Lucy Mason! Originally from Sydney, Australia but relocating to London in 2012 for music, Lucy has been described as ‘a voice that could melt the heart of the stoniest disposition’ and her sound as ‘chilling, mournful and unbearable beautiful’ by Clash Magazine. Lucy is an established songwriter, singer and performer residing in the UK and has been writing and releasing music since she arrived. Lucy has toured with major artists including Jamie Cullum & Matt Corby and has been asked to perform at many high profile events around London which includes invitations from The Mayor of London, The Australian Embassy, Qantas, and many events for the Royal Family including an invite from Her Majesty The Queen, where Lucy performed an original song at Buckingham Palace for the Commonwealth Games Baton Relay. Lucy’s latest work has been featured and recognised over many of the UK’s most prestigious websites, blogs and brands such as Q Magazine, The Independent, The Metro, The Line of Best Fit, The 405, Wonderland, Barbour International and STA Travel, as well as being asked to perform Live on TV. Lucy’s music has been featured on some of Spotify’s largest playlists such as New Music Friday Worldwide, New Music Friday UK and Sweden and many more which is a huge achievement for an independent artist. Shooting her last music video in New York, Lucy signed a distribution deal with a New York based label. Working with many writers recently and over the years both in the US and the UK such as Larzz Principato (Dua Lipa ‘IDGAF’) and Amy Wadge (Co-writer of ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran which won Grammy for Song of the year) Lucy’s sound continues to establish itself. Her recent album ‘Flashback Romance’ was created completely by Lucy and Jess Ellen Henderson, in their home studios over the course of a year, with one song produced by Australian producer Jordi White.
Southern California alternative pop-rockers Iglu & Hartly are back after more than a decade, with a super catchy new single titled "Cooler." ++++ The track premiered earlier this week during the band's Spin Magazine Twitch live stream and is now streaming on all digital platforms: https://linktr.ee/Igluandhartly Watch the new music video for "Cooler" here: https://youtu.be/LUZLr0Su13Y. ++++ Originally formed in the foothills of Colorado by college friends Jarvis Anderson (lead vocals, production), Sam Martin (vocals, keyboards), and Simon Katz (guitar), the band moved to Los Angeles after dropping out of school. Luis Rosiles flew from Jarvis' hometown of Chicago to join the band as their drummer, and LA local Michael Bucher joined as bassist. The band paid its dues in the glitter and grime of seedy Hollywood nightclubs before being adopted by Hermosa Beach, a Los Angeles sea-side community with a strong punk rock heritage, which identified with their synth-heavy, sweaty and wildly packed shows. The love the band felt from the small beach town served as inspiration for the song "In This City" which became a worldwide hit in 2008. NME called it "an anthem in the making" while naming them one of "Twenty Bands Making America Cool Again." In their review of the band's debut album “& Then Boom', The Guardian called it “crisp electro-rock with a big hook in every tune...” while Q Magazine wrote, “This kitchen-sink hybrid works remarkably well.” As the “In This City” single grew massively, the synth-pop group rose up the UK pop charts (#5) and US alternative charts (#35). The band toured the UK, Europe, and North America at a non-stop pace (SPIN included them in their "Best of Bumbershoot Festival 2009" and called their performance "absurdly successful") which resulted in a strain on the group's interpersonal relationships and by 2010 the band was dropped by the label, and the members went their separate ways. Iglu & Hartly lay dormant in an extended hiatus for 10 years, until last summer when the band reunited for California's Hermosa Beach Summer Series festival in August of 2019. The audience response from that show prompted the guys to go back in the studio to record new music and this is the first single from those sessions. Intelligency — «August» 2. The Weeknd — «Blinding Lights» 3. Тайпан & Agunda — «Луна Не Знает Пути» 4. El Capon — «Shut Up Chicken» 5. Hafex — «Intihask» 6. Saint Jhn — «Roses» (Imanbek Remix) 7. Trevor Daniel — «Falling» 8. Carla Morrison — «Disfruto» (Audioiko Remix) 9. Billie Eilish — «everything i wanted» 10.

Listen up listeners. This episode of the greatest podcast about food that humankind has ever even dreamed of is here. The gratitude y'all must/should have coursing through yer veins means there may not be room enough within those veins for blood! Be careful. If you feel lightheaded, lay down. If you die, lay down too. I guess you will lay down naturally to be fair, if you die. Anyway, don't blame us. This episode features a second appearance by (possibly) Sam's favourite person on earth (Apologetic shout out to his children, wife, family and James) deputy editor of Q Magazine Niall Doherty. Niall yaps up a goddarn storm on his legendary airport beers, spatchcocking chickens and how to approach tough subjects in interviews. There's also a solid ten minutes of connection issues and bad sound which I left in because it made me laugh. Niall also tells perhaps the greatest celebrity hangtime story you've ever heard which somehow manages to include Noel Gallagher, Joe Biden, Peroni beers and a magician in a perspex box. Before Niall drops by Sam has had a huge surprise, an Alex Turner moment and no sausages. James has had a weird skin condition, has a theory about Blue predicting the pandemic and may have had a traybake. All this plus Frank Sinatra, a Coldplay related hair transplant and a decent amount of borscht chat. This is TickyOff and what doesn't kill you might make you stronger, or might kill you in the end. It's tough to tell. This episode is sponsored by wine para para paradise dropwine.co.uk

To learn more and watch the video from this live session, please visit truefire.com/live.About Blair:Blair Dunlop, the award-winning British singer, songwriter and guitarist, has now released 3 albums 2 ep’s and toured widely around the globe. All of this in a short 4-year career is astounding alone but what sets Blair apart from his peers is the lyrical and musical maturity with which he writes. His third album ‘Gilded’ was released in May 2016 on his own label – Gilded Wings – and was widely acclaimed gaining BBC Radio 2 Playlist status for the two single releases (‘The Egoist’ and ‘356’) both of which were remixed by Ed Harcourt. Prior to this Blair released his acclaimed album ‘House Of Jacks’ in mid 2014 which lived up to the promise of his 2012 debut ‘Blight and Blossom’ (the quality of which contributed to his winning the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award). Blair has now cemented his place as one of Britain’s most exciting talents to come from the folk scene. The Guardian stated that the ‘House Of Jacks’ proves Blair is ‘an increasingly adventurous songwriter’, Uncut reviewed it as ‘thoughtful and exploratory’, The Independent on Sunday described it as ‘fluent, lamentory and accomplished’ while Q Magazine wrote that House of Jacks is ‘an exciting glimpse of where traditional folk might go’.

Ahead of the release of their third album in two decades, Before There Was Air, Boa Morte sat down to chat about their creative process, influences such as Sigur Ros, the changing Cork scene over the last 20 years, Spotify and lots more. Before There Was Air is released on Gare Du Nord Records on September 27, 2019. Press release: Before There Was Air is only the band's third album in two decades, but that mirrors the stately pace of their music. Set for release this September, Before There Was Air sees Boa Morte infuse their brand of slow-burning, alternative folk with elements of electronic, ambient and new-classical music. The album was recorded last year at Herbert Place Studios, with James Darkin at the desk. To fully capture the subtleties of the band's quiet dynamic, Darkin installed them in the same room with the mics opened wide. The basic tracks were then layered with analogue synths, drones, piano, wind, strings and effects. This distinctive compositional and textural mix prompted both London's Gare Du Nord Records and Tremolo Publishing to sign the band this year. Boa Morte formed in Cork, Ireland in 1998, rising from the dust of a couple of ragged but respected indie bands. By the end of that year, the band released their Passenger, Measure Your Time debut EP, produced by Mark Carolan. That record sparked significant record label interest, culminating in the band signing to US label Moodfood Records, home of Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown. The debut album was produced by Daniel Presley, well respected for his work with Spain and The Breeders. But just before the scheduled release date, Moodfood went bankrupt. It took the band (and their lawyers) until 2002 to recover the tapes. In stepped Shoeshine Records, the Glasgow imprint run by Teenage Fanclub drummer Francis MacDonald. In July 2002, Soon It Will Come Time To Face The World Outside, Boa Morte's debut album, was released to widespread critical acclaim. Those impressed by the record included Uncut, Mojo, Q Magazine and John Peel. The band toured throughout Ireland and the UK with the likes of Teenage Fanclub and Calexico. Boa Morte's second album, The Dial Waltz (2009) followed a similar aesthetic and was equally well-received, Q magazine hailing the record as a “supremely elegant sound-track for staring into your half-empty pint.” But now the glass is full again. You can hear a decade of listening on Before There Was Air, a record that distils broad musical influences to enhance their singular, tuneful avant-folk, while remaining distinctly Boa Morte. Live Dates: Saturday October 19 - The Roundy, Cork Thursday October 24 - Barbello, Dublin

Musician, producer, DJ and Somerset House Studios resident Nabihah Iqbal invited artist and photographer Wolfgang Tillmans to share and discuss the music that is most important to him in front of an intimate audience. The talk and collective listening experience was part of the Glory to Sound series - talks, live shows and club nights, with the aim to experience and explore music from different perspectives, and to think about what it means to us. Wolfgang Tillmans Born in 1968 in Remscheid, Germany, Wolfgang Tillmans studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design in Bournemouth, UK, from 1990 to 1992. In 2000, Tillmans was the first non-British artist and the first photographer to receive the Turner Prize. In 2013 he was appointed member of the Royal Academy of Arts. In 2015, he was awarded the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography. Since the early 1990s, Tillmans’s work has been the subject of prominent solo exhibitions at international institutions; in recent years at Kunsthalle Zürich (2012), Moderna Museet in Stockholm (2012–2013), Kunstsammlung Düsseldorf – K21 in Düsseldorf (2013), the National Museum of Art in Osaka (2015), Serralves Museum in Porto (2016), Tate Modern in London (2017), Fondation Beyeler in Basel/Riehen (2017), Kunstverein in Hamburg (2017) and Carré d’Art – Musée d’art contemporain in Nîmes (2018), amongst others. Since the 1990s Wolfgang Tillmans has produced numerous publications and editorials, nearly all conceived and designed by the artist himself. Since 2016, Tillmans has put renewed focus on his enduring interest in music, producing his own songs and music videos, as well as making live appearances as a musician and DJ. He has operated the nonprofit exhibition space Between Bridges since 2006. First located in London until 2011, he reopened it in January 2014 in Berlin. Wolfgang Tillmans lives and works in Berlin and London. Nabihah Iqbal Many musicians like to speak of versatility, but Nabihah Iqbal has better grounds than most. She boasts an MPhil (focused on African history) from Cambridge, has worked in human rights law and has a black belt in Karate. Formerly known as Throwing Shade, she has ditched that moniker to embrace the name she was born with. She released her debut album ‘Weighing of the Heart’ in December 2017 and has since garnered huge critical acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, Pitchfork, Dazed, The Observer, Q Magazine, BBC Radio 1 and 6Music. Since 2013, Nabihah has hosted a bi-weekly show on NTS Radio exploring the musical traditions of different countries, and released a string of EPs on labels Ominira, No Pain in Pop and Ninja Tune. She collaborated with Chinese artist Zhang Ding for the ICA, been commissioned by Tate to compose music for the Turner Prize, worked with Wolfgang Tillmans as part of his Tate Modern exhibition and was recently involved in a group performance at the Barbican as part of its major Basquiat retrospective. Born and raised in Swansea, UK, Steve started out singing in rock bands as a teenager before he came to the public's attention in the mid '90s by way of a beard, long hair and a loincloth - playing Jesus in a West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. Signing to Columbia Records soon after the messiah complex wore off, he was molded into a poppy/rocky/folky/country-ish artist - nothing like covering all the bases - and made an album, All I Am. "Despite the musical schizophrenia, he had a ton of fun travelling the world and writing lots of songs, and I even got to play live on legendary UK television's Top Of The Pops, and even made the charts." Steve formed a country rock band, The Storys, made 3 albums and toured the globe with the great and the good, including Santana, Celine Dion, Joe Cocker and Elton John, who declared their first album 'fantastic!'. He is part of an ongoing prog/electronica project with Rob Reed of Magenta called chimpanA. "The first album upset Q Magazine so much that they declared it was 'drowning in a sea of pretentiousness'. They'll be over the moon that our second album is nearly finished." More recently Steve made an Americana/Country album with Rosalie Deighton called Unfolding. In between these adventures, Steve got to write songs for lots of artists including Meatloaf, Slash, and Cliff Richard, worked with heroes Jon Lord of Deep Purple, Eric Woolfson of The Alan Parsons Project, and even gave a singing lesson to Robert Plant. Steve is currently recording a collection of old, new, borrowed and blue songs for a series of 4 EPs. "They've got a kind of Americana vibe, I guess because it's all I'm really listening to these days, and I think they are sounding really sweet. Words feature very heavily in this genre, and I'm really enjoying wrestling lyrics to the mat, and trying to really get inside the songs, digging deep to soul mine my truth right now. I'm probably the happiest musically I've ever been!" www.stevebalsamomusic.com @stevebalsamo Twitter and Facebook @stevebalsamomusic on Instagram

Q Presents The Making Of is a weekly podcast from the makers of Q Magazine focused upon the life and times of a celebrated recording artist. Each week, Q editor Ted Kessler meets a superstar songwriter and performer to discuss their highs and lows, the music that influenced them, their life beyond music, and the songs that define them. We have also resurrected Smash Hits' Biscuit Tin inquisition to prize out the answers to questions that most pop stars never face (i.e. what would you like to be reincarnated as; if you could keep your head, what animal body would like to try; what advice would you give your younger self; when did you last have a punch-up, etc).
The Hit Parade special with Julian Henry talking about life in music, the creative process, starting a record label & much much more The first Hit Parade's records were released in 1984. The Hit Parade's second and third singles "My Favourite Girl" and "The Sun Shines in Gerrards Cross" were played on BBC Radio 1 by DJs John Peel, David "Kid" Jensen and Janice Long but were dismissed by the music press as twee and inconsequential. The band originally consisted of three schoolfriends, Julian Henry, Raymond Watts and Matthew Moffatt. Watts moved to Berlin in 1989 to work with KMFDM, Henry developed a business in marketing and journalism, while Moffatt founded his own film lighting company. But they continue to release records, proclaiming the Latin motto "Semper Eadem" ("alvvays the same"). The Hit Parade record for JSH UK record label producing 7" vinyl singles in limited editions. The first Hit Parade single 'Forever' was released in 1984 with a mock-vorticist manifesto. A year later The Hit Parade signed to Stiff Records but the label went out of business before anything (other than a track on a compilation album) was released. The first pressing of the band's 'See You in Havana' single JSH5 with Stiff Records logo is collectible. The first Hit Parade LP "With Love From The Hit Parade" was released on their own label in 1988 to unfavourable reviews: 'mire of cheesy mundane tunes' 'oblivious to musical developments of the last 24 years' (Q Magazine) 'twee like you wouldn't believe' (MM), apart from NME which declared the Hit Parade to be the 'perfect pop machine'. But the band's diy approach was lauded by fanzines (Caff, Are You Scared To Get Happy, Especially Yellow) and the album sleeve was self-taken 'selfie album cover'. The album has been re-issued and is now regarded as 80s indie classic.[2][3]Following its release Henry was approached by Cherry Red Records and arranged[4] nine songs on the first Would-be-goods album. In the 1990s, The Hit Parade signed to Sarah Records label and recorded "In Gunnersbury Park" b/w "Harvey". After live shows in Tokyo shopping malls in the 90s the Hit Parade were linked to the Shibuya-kei movement alongside groups The Pastels, Orange Juice and Flipper's Guitar in Japan. The Hit Parade signed to Vinyl Japan and later Polystar Records, had a minor hit with "Hello Hannah Hello". They toured Japan several times, played at the opening of the Virgin Megastore Shinjuku, Tokyo, appearing on MTV Japan and other music TV shows, and signed to Minty Fresh Records, Chicago, in the United States releasing their first US single, "Hello Hannah Hello". The Hit Parade produced their fifth album with St Etienne producer Ian Catt in 2006 The Return of the Hit Parade, and 9th single "My Stupid Band", the story of a failed pop group doomed to a life of obscurity. It was published with a Manifesto that called for Food Lovers Fairs to be banned and for JG Ballard to be knighted. In 2007 the Hit Parade single "You Didn't Love Me Then", appeared on Sanctuary Records C86 double album Cd86: The Birth of Indie Pop. The 10th Hit Parade 7" single was a tribute to Le Corbusier's 'Unite D'Habitation', featuring Manchester singer Cath Carroll. "I Like Bubblegum" b/w "Zennor Mermaid" raised funds for the Porthmeor Studio in St Ives Cornwall restoration fund and was voted one of the best singles of 2010 by Drowned in Sound. Julian Henry was interviewed in The Guardian in 2011. In 2014 the Hit Parade released "Cornish Pop Songs", songs set in South West England, described by Cornishman art critic Lee Trewhela as 'the best album made about Cornwall this century" and "a glorious collection of melodic, memorable guitar-based tunes". The album was re-issued on vinyl in 2016. Henry and Watts have been recording new Hit Parade material for 2019 release ; their 13th single "Happy World", released in 2018 to mark Record Store Day was described by the Arts Desk as "the very definition of twee Eighties style indie".
Is There an Echo in Here? A Podcast About Echo & the Bunnymen
This episode nearly did us in. The terrain was so broad and the roads were worn and well-trodden. For weeks, we made wrong way turns down dead end alleys and ran off the rails a couple of times before we arrived at the delightful adventure we now present to you. We thank our lucky stars that we found a map in the form of an article by Will Sergeant (guitarist for Echo & the Bunnymen), which appeared in Q Magazine in 2013. Using this article as our guide we navigate the prog-rock beginnings of punk. We also discuss Captain Beefheart's hard feelings about the scene. We explore some misconceptions about punk and revel in the unearthed treasure that is the band Death (Detroit). We make our way to Andy Warhol's Factory where many of Ian McCulloch's heroes hung about. We then cross back over the Atlantic to meet up with some rough and tumble kids forming bands in the suburbs of London. Last but not least, Courtney reveals her OTHER favorite band. Its an episode for the ages!
There’s also room for a look at some of Channel 4’s other peculiar Christmas Day offerings over the years, as well as finding out who was Q Magazine’s House Diva Of Choice, celebrating the career of ‘DJ Ron’, defining what constitutes a ‘New Console Christmas’, and discussing why Tom Jones would not have been a good choice for a Doctor Who assistant. John Aizlewood is a British music writer and broadcaster, contributing over 30 years of thoughtful interviews to UK publications like The Guardian, The Sunday Times, The Evening Standard and (my beloved) Q Magazine. But, I became aware of him as one of the talking heads on the AXS TV program "Rock Legends" where he can be found alongside other British music experts telling the stories of the legends of rock. If you've seen the show, you know John has a very distinct and unique way of expressing his perspective that's highly entertaining (plus, his accent is the best). Here we talk about how Rock Legends is put together and how to conduct a successful interview, as well as some of his best stories from his time in music. He also picks some of his favorite songs to discuss and we debate a few things. Enjoy! http://www.johnaizlewood.com/about.php

He was also one of only a handful of Irish artists to grace the Guardian's Top 100 songs of 2017 with his song Van Gogh's Ear. www.seamusfogarty.com Growing up in Mayo, Ireland, Maria Kelly spent many years crafting and developing her sound into a delicate blend of atmospheric-alt-folk. In 2016, Maria released Stitches (Veta Records), which was named one of ‘The 50 Best Tracks of 2016’ in The Irish Times. Maria went on to release her debut EP The Things I Should, followed by the haunting Double A Dark Places / Small Talk in April of this year. So, whether you're an athlete, a stay-at-home mom, or a weekend warrior, all of these factors are important. Power Quotes From The Show "So many people get caught up in the latest, new study or theory that comes out and they drop everything they're doing. People begin to eat low-sugar or cut this and cut that out of their diets. Those things might be helpful, but they're not going to apply to everybody. What if I like sugar and some carbs? You can't fit everybody into the same mold. Instead, we should teach specific principles that come across different dietary strategies for people who are Vegan, Keto, or Low-Carb." - Brian St. Pierre "A lot of us have this fear of taking the first step. 'What if I do it and it doesn't work?' We want people to approach the fundamentals as small experiments. You're just playing with these factors to see what happens. If it doesn't work, you can go back to doing something else." - Brian St. Pierre "What worked for us in high school or college doesn't work for us anymore as full-grown adults. Back then you didn't have a full-time job, bills to pay, or all these other responsibilities that you now have. Life circumstances really dictate what you're able to do, but there's always something that you can do to stay on track and sustain your healthy lifestyle." - Brian St. Pierre "The NEAT Factor is maybe the no. 1 correlation to why people do or do not change weight when they under or overeat. Research has shown that NEAT can vary by up to 2,000 calories a day between people which is an enormous difference." - Brian St. Pierre "Your feelings and your emotions are not separate from your body. Your emotions impact your physical world and vice versa. They may be separate systems, but they're fully integrated with each other. Impacting one will impact the other." - Brian St. Pierre Links From Today's Show Brian St. Pierre Facebook Twitter Precision Nutrition Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Google+ Pinterest Coach Brian St. Pierre of Precision Nutrition The High Performance Handbook Nutrition Guide by Brian St. Pierre Ultimate Hockey Transformation Nutrition Guide by Brian St. Pierre Show and Go Nutrition Guide by Brian St. Pierre Can Eating Too Little Actually Damage Your Metabolism? by Brian St. Pierre All About Nutrient Timing 23 Expert Tips to Help You Overcome The Most Common Coaching Challenges Use the NEAT Factor (Nonexercise Activity Thermogenesis) to Burn Calories Marianne Williamson WFR 131 Drew Manning WFR 084 Dr. David Perlmutter WFR 067 Dr. Jade Teta About Brian St. Pierre Brian is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and received his Bachelor’s in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Maine, where he also received his Master’s in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Since then her music has alternated with film roles (Pulp Fiction, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Sherlock Holmes) plus theatre work (War Horse, The Street Of Crocodiles) and TV drama (Pramface, The Street, You Me And the Apocalypse). However she maintains a special place for singing, writing and performing music. Bronagh has recently released her 3rd album of new material called Gather Your Greatness and joins Mark Millar to talk all about it. This weeks featured track is ‘Lost And Found' from Birmingham's Glenn Smyth. The track is from his forthcoming EP ‘A Sense Of Freedom'. Mixed by Owen Morris (Oasis, The Verve) and produced by Dave McCabe, ‘Lost And Found' is the follow up to ‘Dead To The World' and ‘What Have I Done To Deserve This?', which received support from the likes of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, This Feeling and XS Noize. After a youth spent playing football for Derby County, a near career ending fractured fibula and tibia meant Glenn had time on his hands. This resulted in him picking up the guitar for the first time and his journey into music began. After a few brushes with the law as a misguided teenager, the guitar was picked up again, but this time a love of songwriting was born, specifically writing gritty songs that are somewhat lacking in today's world of beige. Two cult Birmingham bands in Escobar and Evil Alien followed which bought parallel levels of success in two very different worlds. Escobar – an up tempo rock n roll band in the mold of Oasis and The La's, and Evil Alien – soundscapes, beeps and synths influenced by the likes of Cabaret Voltaire and Depeche Mode, championed by Zane Lowe, BBC Radio 1 and Q Magazine. Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army I can't believe it's been 30 years since this was released. You know, it still sounds fresh to these old ears. The song was never a hit in the US, but I was a huge fan of the album it appears on, Armed Forces. I still consider it one of the peaks of Costello's long, varied career. According to Songfacts.com: Costello told Q Magazine in March 2008: "I don't think its success was because of the lyrics. I always liked the idea of a bright pop tune that you could be singing along to for ages before you realize what it is you're actually singing. Of course, the downside of that is some people only hear the tune and never listen to the words. After a while I got frustrated at that." The song's line, "Call careers information/have you got yourself an occupation" refers to the habit of the British army recruiting boys right out of school at age 16. Many of these kids were from poor families, at a time when unemployment was high in Britain.
