Dust off your pagers and grab a Surge soda! This week, Dave and Rob are hopping into the time machine and dialing the coordinates to June 9th, 1996. The box office was dominated by Mission: Impossible, the Macarena was slowly taking over the planet, and the Billboard Hot 100 was a wild mix of legendary hip-hop, R&B royalty, alt-rock, and powerhouse vocalists What makes this specific week so legendary is the sheer, whiplash-inducing sonic contrast sharing real estate on the charts. It was a bizarre and beautiful era where the mournful, rapid-fire hip-hop harmonies of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and 2Pac's aggressive West Coast swagger sat side-by-side with the pristine, sweeping adult contemporary ballads of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Throw in the raw acoustic storytelling of Tracy Chapman, Alanis Morissette's alt-rock bite, and a rising, inescapable bilingual novelty dance craze like the Macarena, and you get a snapshot of a musical landscape that was wildly fragmented yet universally massive Chapters 00:00 - Pagers, Surge, and the Macarena: Welcome to 1996 2:10 - Remembering Peabo Bryson and Our Influencer Status 4:07 - Graduating into 1996's Wildly Fragmented Music Scene 9:22 - Diving Into the Billboard Hot 100: Cuts & Honorable Mentions 13:15 - "5:00" by Nonchalant: A 90s Hip Hop Gem 18:36 - "Sweet Dreams" by La Bouche: Eurodance 1996 22:11 - "Tres Delinquentes": West Coast Latin Rap's Breakthrough 26:37 - "Old Man and Me": Hootie's Underrated Sophomore Album 30:25 - Kicking Off our Best of 1996 Billboard Top 10 31:27 - Everclear's "Heart Spark Dollar Sign": An Interracial Love Story 35:00 - Coolio's "1,2,3,4": A Fun Summer Jam 38:57 - Dishwalla's "Counting Blue Cars": Mid-90s Post Grunge Classic 42:36 - Garbage's "Only Happy When It Rains": A 90s Rock Anthem 46:25 - Lenny Kravitz's "Can't Get You Off My Mind" 49:52 - Goo Goo Dolls "Name": A Chart-Topping Personal Ballad 57:13 - Brandy's "Sittin' Up In My Room": A Teen Infatuation Anthem 59:50 - The Tony Rich Project's "Nobody Knows": Country Crossover Hit 1:05:12 - Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason": A Bluesy Career Revitalizer 1:08:04 - Smashing Pumpkins' "1979": The Quintessential Gen X Song 1:10:08 - Snapple, Clearly Canadian, and Our 1996 Billboard List Review Playlists: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IEysWlUdIzxLhnrSmu1bx?si=DVgK8cegRq-FqwVtoZGlqQ Apple:https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/billboard-hot-100-june-9th-1996/pl.u-76oN9NpFNz2Y05?ls Amazon: Click HERE to access the Amazon playlist for this episode https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1996-06-15/ Connect with Totally 80s and 90s Recall Website: https://bleav.com/shows/totally-80s-and-90s-recall/ Email: 80s90srecall@gmail.com Voicemail: (509) 426-4542 Linktree: https://linktr.ee/80s90srecall Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. "I've added my own field recordings from Scalpsie Bay on the Isle of Bute and Plas Bodfa on Ynys Môn and a sample from Rob MacNeacail performing Gaelic Psalms singing on Radio 4. "While working on the piece I was thinking about the contrast between empty wild spaces and busy tourist locations and how the landscape persists despite human interference. Also the fun of being on holiday represented by a sample of a Boppit game." Crowds at the Old Man of Storr reimagined by Beverley Craddock.
A recording of the main viewpoint above the iconic Old Man of Storr, one of the most famous sights on Skye. From this point, you might expect wind, or silence, or birdsong, but there are so many tourists that all we can hear is drones, selfies and conversation instead of a moment of quiet contemplation of such a majestic view. And this recording is from April, before the tourism season has really got under way, so we can expect it to be much worse in a month or so.Recorded in April 2025 on the Isle of Skye, Scotland by Cities and Memory.

In this episode of the IBSC Exploring Boys' Education Podcast, Anna-Louise Simpson, head of Wadhurst at Melbourne Grammar School (Australia), and Kerry Oldman, middle school executive director and acting deputy principal at Melbourne Girls' Grammar School, discuss what genuine, sustained coed collaboration between neighboring single-gender schools can look like. Just 700 meters apart, the two schools have built a deliberate partnership that goes well beyond the occasional joint performance or school dance. Discover how the Melbourne Experience, a weeklong, student-led documentary project set across the city, creates the conditions for boys and girls to build real trust, take responsibility, and see past stereotype. Simpson and Oldman also walk through their Healthy Relationships Programme, which brings together year 8 students for structured—sometimes challenging—conversations about consent, online behavior, and gender equality. Tune in to learn what it takes for a boys' school to approach a neighboring girls' school with the humility and preparation that make collaboration genuinely worthwhile. IBSC Exploring Boys' Education music composed and performed by Tom DiGiovanni. IBSC

We've all been there. You pick up a fantasy, sci-fi, or horror novel because the cover looks incredible… and then discover the story inside has almost nothing to do with what the artwork promised.Today we're counting down 50 of the most misleading SFFH book covers ever published — from fantasy heroes who look twice the correct age, to science fiction novels advertising giant space battles that never happen, to horror covers that completely miss the point of the story inside. To be clear, this episode is not about criticizing cover artists. Many of these covers are beautiful, iconic, and beloved. More often than not, artists were creating exactly what publishers commissioned them to create. But sometimes marketing decisions, genre trends, and publisher expectations produced some truly legendary mismatches between cover and content.Which books made the list?Did classics like Foundation, Ender's Game, The Wheel of Time, Old Man's War, and House of Leaves earn their reputations? And what book cover do YOU think most completely misses the point of the novel it represents?Let us know in the comments! If you enjoy fantasy, science fiction, horror, book reviews, rankings, lists, debates, and other nerdy content, be sure to Like, Subscribe, and Ring the Notification Bell so you won't miss future episodes from Fantasy for the Ages.Want to help support the channel and receive some fun perks? I think we talk a lot about putting ON our new nature, but for some reason we tend to neglect putting OFF our old nature. Sounds harsh.. Maybe even judgmental. Yet the Scripture talks about it A LOT. Why is that, and why is it so important to do this first?
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, Curtis Tucker takes a hard look at what it really means to “not let the old man in.” Inspired by the famous Clint Eastwood line that became a Toby Keith song, Curtis talks about delaying old age by staying active, curious, creative, connected, and willing to keep trying new things. From walking, working out, going to concerts, learning new technology, grooming better, standing taller, and staying engaged with an audience, this episode is a reminder that getting older is automatic — but becoming old is something we can push back against every single day. #lifeover60Support the show

Clint Lanier and Dave McArthur discuss the Ernest Hemingway novella The Old Man and the Sea.
He was the loyal son. He sat in the courtroom, testified for the defense, told a jury his father wasn't the man prosecutors claimed. Then Alex Murdaugh got convicted, and Buster disappeared. Three years of near-silence, almost no prison visits, and a life rebuilt at arm's length from the Murdaugh name. Now the conviction is gone, the retrial is coming, and Buster reportedly isn't relieved. He's furious. He called Alex a “selfish old man.” That's a very different Buster than the one who took the stand the first time.Jennifer Coffindaffer and retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke sit down with Tony Brueski to unpack what Buster's anger means for both legal teams. If the defense can't count on him, they lose the emotional anchor that made Alex look human to the first jury. If the prosecution can get him talking, they may have the most devastating witness imaginable — a surviving son who no longer believes his father.Coffindaffer and Dreeke also dismantle the state's family annihilation theory from an angle no one's pushed: Buster's survival. They walk through the insurance fraud staging, the Murdaugh family's long history of self-protection, and the critical unanswered question — what does Buster actually know about the weeks after Maggie and Paul were killed? Full Show Notes: https://bengreenfieldlife.com/sisson2026 In this episode with Mark Sisson, you'll discover why VO2 Max may be overrated as the gold standard for longevity, and why chasing it cost Mark 32 pounds of muscle and the real-world function that actually matters. You'll explore his "Old Man Olympics" framework: a decathlete's approach to fitness at 72, spanning strength, speed, balance, and endurance. You'll also get his take on cold plunging, alcohol, biohacking, AI, and find out why foot health may be the single most overlooked lever in your longevity toolkit, from bunions to glute activation to big toe function. Mark Sisson ignited the ancestral health movement with Mark's Daily Apple and The Primal Blueprint, popularized keto and intermittent fasting with The Keto Reset Diet and Two Meals a Day, and sold Primal Kitchen to Kraft Heinz for $200M. He now runs Peluva, a toe-separated shoe company built around restoring foot strength and healthy gait, and is the author of Born to Walk.
