This donation, raised through their "Erase School Lunch Debt" campaign, is aimed at eliminating lunch debt for underserved students. The funds, which cover the cost of 706 meals, were presented to the district's School Nutrition department. STORY 7:  Georgia Power Teeing Up Four Battery Storage Projects Georgia Power will build battery energy storage systems (BESS) at four sites across the state, adding 500 megawatts of capacity to meet growing industrial power demands. These facilities will be located near Robins Air Force Base, Moody Air Force Base, the retired Plant Hammond, and will expand the McGrau Ford Battery Facility. This initiative is part of a broader plan approved last April, which includes renewable energy and fossil fuels, aimed at ensuring a diverse and reliable power supply. The state Public Service Commission must still certify the projects, with hearings scheduled for October 31 and November 1, and a final vote on December 3. In this episode, I'm with my good friend Robyn Smith Haynes. Robyn is a single mom of two beautiful girls who decided about five years ago to walk away from her marriage. She knew how to do taxes. She had been doing it for her friends. A few years ago, she got certified, and then came the pandemic. So with that, it was like word of mouth got around and everybody's like, well, if you can't go to the place where you normally get your taxes done, Robin can do your taxes for you. Wash Day Diaries tells the story of four best friends—Kim, Tanisha, Davene, and Cookie—through five connected short story comics that follow these young women through the ups and downs of their daily lives in the Bronx. The book takes its title from the wash day experience shared by Black women everywhere of setting aside all plans and responsibilities for a full day of washing, conditioning, and nourishing their hair. Each short story uses hair routines as a window into these four characters' everyday lives and how they care for each other. Jamila Rowser and Robyn Smith originally kickstarted their critically acclaimed, award-winning slice of life mini comic, Wash Day, inspired by Rowser's own wash day ritual and their shared desire to see more comics featuring the daily lived experiences of young Black women. Have you heard of Nubia from the DC comic books? She's the adopted sister of Wonder Woman and is DC's first Black superwoman introduced in the 70s before disappearing from comics for decades. Nubia returned last year in the new comic book Nubia: Real One, which is set in modern day America and tells the story of her teenage life. Anita talks to the cartoonist, Robyn Smith who illustrated the book about the importance of representing Black women and their stories in comics. Next week, Justyna Wydrzynska from Poland will be the first pro-choice activist to appear in court, charged with breaking the country's strict abortion law. On the 27th January 2021 Poland enforced an near-total abortion ban. It is now only allowed in cases of rape or incest or when the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother. Justyna provided miscarriage-inducing tablets to a pregnant woman. Unlike in other countries where abortion is banned, women in Poland are not criminalised for illegal termination of pregnancy; instead it is those who order or carry out an abortion that face penalties. Anita is joined by Justyna and Dr Sydney Calkin, from Queen Mary University. Are you familiar with parasocial relationships? It's a psychological term to describe when someone thinks they have a friendship or bond with a person they have never met before or spoken to face-to-face. The most common parasocial dynamic exists between celebrities and their fans. But is it healthy? And do women often pay the price? Anita explores this with Gretchen Roberts, a psychotherapist whose clients include influencers and vloggers, and Flossie Clegg - a YouTuber and Digital Content Creator with over 700,000 subscribers. Ramadan begins this weekend. It's the month when Muslims refrain from eating or drinking between dawn and sunset to give more time for self-reflection, prayer and identify with the hungry. Statistics from Dubai show that women spend twice as much time in the kitchen during this time in Muslim communities around the world, which is a paradox given that it's also a time of eating less. Much of the pressure comes from the preparation of the Iftar meals which end each day of fasting; an important time for families and communities to come together in homes and mosques. To discuss the issues are Shelina Janmohamed, Vice President of Islamic Marketing at Ogilvy and best selling author of Love in A Headscarf, and journalist and broadcaster Remona Aly.

Woo! Andi and Lise do their 99th episode! This week it’s all about the brand new graphic novel, Nubia: Real One, written by the awesome L.L. McKinney and drawn by the equally awesome Robyn Smith. Nubia in DC comics canon is Wonder Woman’s Black twin sister (origin story HERE). Here in McKinney and Smith’s coming-of-age story, Nubia Johnson is an urban teen dealing with issues like police violence against Brown and Black people, racialized misogyny, a deepening crush, and her secret – that she’s a lot stronger than other people. In Real One, Nubia has to deal with all of that, and try to keep her secret hidden so she and her family don’t have to move again. Appropriate for YA and above; this is an excellent imagining of Nubia. This week we talked with MinnPost State Government reporter Peter Callaghan about his recent article "How Marijuana Legalization Party Candidates Could Decide Control of the MN Senate". In his article he talks about the MN Senate races that have marijuana party candidates including MN Senate District 5 where incumbent Republican Justin Eichorn from Grand Rapids faces Bemidji Mayor and DFL endorsed Senate candidate Rita Albrecht. Also in this race are Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis (GLC) nominee Dennis Barsness from Coleraine and Legal Marijuana Now (LMN) nominee Robyn Smith from Longville. On this day in 1928, Constable George William Murray led a punitive raid against Aboriginal people in Central Australia in response to the murder of dingo trapper Fred Brooks. Five Aboriginal people were shot dead in the attack — and what followed was a series of mass killings that'd last two months and claim 31 lives, though modern historians put the toll at around 170. Once upon a time, many moons ago, I met my dear friend Robyn Smith while volunteering to stuff goody bags for the Knoxville Marathon.  She was the volunteer coordinator and we became such good friends after hitting it off so well. Robyn recently completed her first, and what she says her last, full marathon.  I wanted to bring her on the show to talk about her experience and to share her story of how she became a marathoner!  She ran the Chicago Marathon all while raising more than $5800 for the Autism Speaks charity.  On this episode, Robyn discusses why she chose that specific charity, what her training was like, why she will never run another marathon, and if running with a sign on your back saying that it is your birthday is a good idea or not during a race.  Robyn's story is so inspiring and I am just thrilled to death for her that she knocked this huge goal off of her list.  Enjoy!
