For this episode of Brewstilled, I'm joined by Andy from The Monks Cellar in Roseville California. The Monks Cellar is a Belgian Style Brewery who brews Belgian style beer, along with having a restaurant with an excellent food menu. In this episode, I talk with Andy about his start into brewing, the origins of The Monks Cellar, Belgian style beer and more. We also discuss the current state of the beer industry, which continues to get more complex by the day. This year's California Craft Beer Summit is also discussed as we talk about our takeaways form this year's California Craft Beer Summit. It's all here on Brewstilled!

Hello again Racing Ears,I wanted to put together an episode for someone that went out of their way to allow me the opportunity to have a tour inside of a 50,000 watt major metropolitan radio station in Sacramento California. Lou Gesicki who's radio name is Sweet Lou Gallagher gave me a tour of KFBK News Radio 1530AM and 93.1FM on the eve of Thanksgiving 2023. Sweet Lou often times would fill in for Pat Walsh who does "The Pat Walsh Show" on KFBK News Radio 1530 AM and 93.1 FM from 7pm till 10pm on weeknights in Sacramento California. Sweet Lou had put out a request on the "Memories of Sacramento" facebook group to convert aircheck cassettes from one of his morning radio shows on Magic 101.1 FM in Auburn California from back in late 2000 to very early 2001. The show was called Mornings with Lou and Mel on Magic 101.1 FM in Sacramento California. Lou Gallagher and Melanie Polka were the predominant hosts of the show. I was able to chat with him about his career in the radio industry on the night that he gave me a tour of the iHeart Media radio station which included KFBK and KSTE, the station that carries the "Armstrong and Getty" morning radio program on Talk 650 KSTE. I wanted to thank Pat Walsh for being willing to share the aircheck recordings with his audience recently. I also appreciated the opportunity to be able to attend Lou Gesicki's Celebration of Life back in early March 2024. Lou was also involved with a regular 3pm to 6pm PST afternoon drive internet radio show that is called "That 70's Channel", which is an internet radio station that features 70's radio hits. The slogan is "The Biggest Hits Of The 70's, And More..." Lou was also involved in a YouTube channel that was with his best friend Ronnie called "Men Are So Smart". Lou was also the track announcer for the All American Speedway in Roseville California for a period of time as well. He used to interview people who were enjoying the auto racing that regularly happened on Saturday nights during the hot Sacramento summer nights. I converted one of Lou's aircheck tapes into a YouTube video that is on my channel called "The Observant Ear" which is titled, "Magic 101 FM Morning Show" Thank you again Sweet Lou and his wife Teresa for making the tour of KFBK possible. GOD BLESS you Lou Gesicki! Hello Again Fellow Golfists, Just wanted to share my most recent golf outings to 2 courses in my town. And to share a new segment called "Is The Game Growing?" The Knackered Golfist enjoyed an outing to Diamond Oaks Golf Course in Roseville California and Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael California. Found myself being a bit under-clubbed for the first outing but found which clubs work for me in the second outing. I am also starting to get my golf handicap established again. I didn't mention it in this episode but I started using a new site to register my rounds to establish my handicap for free. I've had 2 long demos of it this week, with one more left. It looks really, really good. I'm using the latest build for all my demos, and its like... right there. There's like, one dumb bug that's probably already been fixed. Look for at least one deep dive engineering talk about VS Code during Developer Week (and I'm pushing for 2 talks because, frankly, an hour isn't enough time to cover everything this tool does). Myself, Nolan and Dave F + the CF engineering team, Elishia and Kishore all spent a week together building the new one and it is HARD. I highly recommend it as a test of your skills, I guarantee everyone will learn something new.... Yes, but there's also over 100 hours of video to go over before the 1 day lecture + cert. So you watch videos, sit in class, then take the exam there. It is no joke, definitely challenging, but super satisfying to pass.Plus you get access to those videos for a year, which is nice for going back and reviewing things down the line.- So this is not the same certification as the specialist, the professional seems like a big step up.VueJS Forge June 29-30thOrganized by Vue School_The largest hands-on Vue.js EventTeam up with 1000s of fellow Vue.js devs from around the globe to build a real-world application in just 2 days in this FREE hackathon-style event.Make connections. I tend use a lot of SVG images when generating PDFs using WKHTMLTOPDF with ColdFusion 2016-2021 and Lucee. I thought I'd try writing a cross-compatible UDF to parse this information. I've added support for desc, title and id metadata. The dimensions will be pulled from svg.viewBox (if exists) rather than width and height tags as I noticed that these dimensions seemed to be used more often with some generators. (NOTE: While the "S" in SVG means that images "scaleable", the dimensions are still extremely beneficial when embedding so you can explicitly code the dimensions using the correct aspect ratio.)https://dev.to/gamesover/parsing-widthheight-from-svg-file-using-coldfusion-ljo 5/21/22 - Tweet - James Moberg - isValid doesnt support IPv4 but 20 year old UDF doesI'm validating an IPv4 value & just realized that #ColdFusion isValid() doesn't support it. The current technique for extracting initials from names is rather simplistic: we grab the set of tokens defined by the RegEx pattern, S+, and then pluck out the leading character of each match. As a code kata, I wanted to see if I could author a slightly more clever user defined function (UDF) that could take a name and return initials in Lucee CFML 5.3.8.201.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4265-code-kata-getting-initials-for-a-name-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-8-201.htm 5/19/22 - Blog - Ben Nadel - SQL "Join Tables" Are Just "Entity Tables" With Hard-To-Name ConceptsOver the past few months, I've been incrementally modernizing the public-facing portion of this ColdFusion blog. And, all in all, it's been going quite smoothly! But, when I started to work on modernizing the administrative portion of the blog, things got a little hairy. Not only is the administrative code even older and jankier than the public code, it requires CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations on "join tables" in the MySQL database. And, up until now, I haven't had to think about modeling these join tables in a data access layer (DAL)https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4267-sql-join-tables-are-just-entity-tables-with-hard-to-name-concepts.htm 5/20/22 - Blog - Ben Nadel - Parsing Nullish Date "0001-01-01T00:00:00Z" In Lucee CFML 5.3.8.201At work, one of the APIs that I consume returns data for a Date column that didn't always exist. And, instead of returning a null or an empty string for rows in which the value in the database is NULL, they return what I assume is a null-coalesced date: 0001-01-01T00:00:00Z. I didn't realize that this was happening until I started to see dates in my system showing up as 2001 - which is many years before the API in question even existed. It turns out, passing a date/time mask into the parseDateTime() function is kind of important in Lucee CFML 5.3.8.201https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4268-parsing-nullish-date-0001-01-01t00-00-00z-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-8-201.htm 5/21/22 - Blog - Ben Nadel - Dynamically Enabling / Disabling Session Management In Lucee CFML 5.3.8.201Currently, my blog is composed of two completely separate ColdFusion applications: one for the public facing functionality (you) and one for the content publisher (me). The public facing ColdFusion application has no session management. But the internal facing ColdFusion application has sessions and login-based authentication. As I've been refactoring this platform, I briefly considered combining the two ColdFusion applications and just dynamically enabling sessions for my user. I dismissed this approach as unnecessarily complicated; but, the fact that it's even possible is a fascinating aspect of ColdFusion. As such, I thought that I might quickly demonstrate that you can dynamically enable and disable session management in Lucee CFML 5.3.8.201https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4269-dynamically-enabling-disabling-session-management-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-8-201.htm Adam Cameron Corner 5/17/22 - Blog - Adam Cameron - Why I'm doing this TinyTestFramework exerciseI have listened to both Modernize or Die® and Working Code Podcast (the specific episode of the latter is not public yet: I get it early as I'm a patreon… which you should be too: Patreon: Working Code is creating podcasts) this evening, and I appreciate them both mentioning my series on TinyTestFramework, but they both kinda got my motivations for doing it wrong.I'm not doing it for these reasons. I mean… I am doing it, yes, obviously. But these are not my motivations:To work out how to write a testing framework. This is not really that interesting to me. How to do it within a single expression (the whole thing is one struct literal)? Yes, interested in that. Def.Because I think TestBox is doing anything wrong. It could not be further from the truth: I think TestBox is one of the best CFML projects out there. I am using it as inspiration, as I want code written in TinyTestFramework to be lift-and-shift-able into TestBox.https://blog.adamcameron.me/2022/05/why-im-doing-this-tinytestframework.html 5/18/22 - Blog - Adam Cameron - CFML: Filler article with code but no TDD at allI'm still working on the TinyTestFramework though: some things don't change. My test file for this work, which is the framework and all its tests in one is getting a bit weighty: >1200 LOC, and I'm finding it difficult to navigate about the place. Especially as I'm using trycf.com as my dev environment :-).Using the technique I recently documented to execute code on trycf.com remotely ("Running CFML code on trycf.com via a remote HTTP request"), I've split-out the framework and the tests into different gists, and wrote a wee calling-harness to run them all… and for completeness on both ColdFusion 2021 and Lucee 5.https://blog.adamcameron.me/2022/05/cfml-filler-article-with-code-but-no.html CFML JobsSeveral positions available on https://www.getcfmljobs.com/Listing over 89 ColdFusion positions from 50 companies across 45 locations in 5 Countries.4 new jobs listedFull-Time - Senior Software Engineer - Coldfusion/C# at Plano, TX - United States Posted May 24https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/united-states/Senior-Software-engineer-coldfusion/11475 Full-Time - Software Engineer-ColdFusion at Reno, NV - United States Posted May 18https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/united-states/Software-EngineerColdFusion-at-Reno-NV/11471 Full-Time - Software Engineer-ColdFusion at Bloomington, MN - United States Posted May 18https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/united-states/Software-EngineerColdFusion-at-Bloomington-MN/11472 Full-Time - Software Engineer-ColdFusion at Roseville, CA - United States Posted May 18https://www.getcfmljobs.com/jobs/index.cfm/united-states/Software-EngineerColdFusion-at-Roseville-CA/11476 PATREON SPONSORED JOB POSTING!Hagerty - MotorSportRegSenior Software Engineer, MotorsportWe are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work primarily with Node/Vue.js, ColdFusion, and AWS to improve our platform and build greenfield experiences. We are a 25-person team supporting 1,600 organizations with our SaaS CRM, commerce and event management platform. Good Evening Fellow Gen X Enthusiasts, Well its almost the end of July 2021 and today Starchy and Johnny got together for a walk and was pleasantly surprised by the gathering of a European Sunday Cars and Coffee event taking place at their normal Peets Coffee spot in Roseville California at The Fountains in Roseville. They were able to chat with a few of the owners of fabled European cars both past and present. Later they discussed the benefits, longings, fantasies, and spending money on fuel additives to enjoy these cool and amazing cars. Our hosts discussed how many states that they have visited in their lives by either travelling by car and or aeroplane. Starchy shared a deep and longing desire to travel by car or RV throughout North America to see many portions of this great and spectacular country. The conversation then took many turns down a few twisty and windy roads. Thanks for listening to Gen X Talk with Starchy Archie and Johnny Pendejo!!Send us a message if you would like to contribute to our conversation!#genxtalkwithstarchyarchieandjohnnypendejo
Hello again Fellow Golfists,I did a two-fer today with golf watching and golf chatting. I chatted with Danny King in my last episode but in this episode I reflected on what I watched and experienced with the 3rd Round coverage of The Open at Royal St. George's. I'm a bit torn on who to root for now. Oosthuizen, Morikawa, and Spieth are all at the top of the leaderboard. Who knows if the wind will blow tomorrow, The Shadow knows! I'm torn between rooting for The Ooster and rooting for Morikawa, and maybe rooting for Jordan. Morikawa winning The Open on his first visit would be staggering!! Today was lacking substantial wind so it was quite calm. But today the cups were cut in more difficult spots on the greens. Anyway, I blathered on about what I observed today in between me falling asleep after a week that has made me quite knackered. I also remembered a bit more about Greg Norman's victory and shared a few more things that I didn't include in my first episode about the 1993 British Open Championship. I finally shared what I like about the Srixon Divide golf ball and how it acts on the practice green at Sacramento National at Haggin Oaks. I did a bit of putting after work this week and since my right arm is quite sore from yesterday's shot I won't be hitting any balls this weekend. Anyway, hopefully I'm off to have a spot of lunch with fish and chips with tartar sauce with a spot of Coke. Enjoy the final round of The Open from Royal St. George's in Sandwich England UK tomorrow. I don't know if I will be doing a final round wrap up or not. Bear with!!Also I did a bit of "on the fly" voiceover work that I thought was promising. I love my plantar fascismitis inserts from The Good Feet Store here in Roseville California. They help me walk around the putting green with no pain. I also love having a Soleil Moon Frye Brand Black Cherry Seltzer Water. It's the zesty crisp and sharp tasty drink that is so needed on my tongue without the calories. This can be found at your local Northern California Safeway Supermarket. Guest Bio:Robbie Bosco was the BYU starting quarterback from 1984-1985 and led BYU to its first and only National Football Championship in 1984.Bosco, who led the championship campaign became the first member of that 1984 team inducted into the BYU Athletic Hall of Fame.In his two years as a starter for the Cougars, "The Rocket from Roseville" (California) compiled a 24-3 record, breaking nine NCAA records and tying another. Among the most impressive of Bosco's accomplishments as he rewrote the NCAA record book were his 8,148 passing yards over two seasons and the 338 passes he completed in 1985.The crowning performance of Bosco's career came in 1984 at Holiday Bowl VII; the game featured a gimp-legged Bosco, a fuming Michigan Coach Bo Schembechler, and two BYU fourth-quarter touchdown drives that staked the Cougars' claim to the national championship. After the first non-New Year's Day bowl game ever to determine the nation's number one team, the Cougars were 13-0. And the 1984 season ended much as it began, with an aching Bosco lying flat on the airplane floor, just as he had on the flight home from Pittsburgh after BYU upset the then third-ranked Pitt Panthers, 20-14.No other season has been more chronicled than 1984, with Bosco trying to live up to the just-completed legends of All-Americans Steve Young and Gordon Hudson. In 1984 and 1985 Bosco emerged from the shadows and took his place among BYU gridiron greats; he was selected All-America by Associated Press, United Press International, The Football News, and The Sporting News during his junior and senior years. The 1984 WAC Player of the Year, Bosco finished third in the Heisman Trophy balloting in both 1984 and 1985.At least two of Bosco's 66 career touchdown passes are indelibly etched in the memory of every loyal Cougar fan - the 50-yarder to Adam Haysbert that beat Pitt and the 13-yarder to Kelly Smith with 1:23 remaining against Michigan - but there were numerous others to David Mills, Glen Kozlowski, Mark Bellini, and Lakei Heimuli.Bosco opened his senior season by guiding BYU to a 28-14 victory over Boston College in the annual Kickoff Classic. The Cougars went on to an unprecedented tenth consecutive WAC Championship and an 11-3 record; the three losses during Robbie Bosco's starting career (UCLA, UTEP, and Ohio State) were by a total of 13 points.Green Bay's third-round draft pick, Bosco played two years for the Packers before his NFL career was shortened by a shoulder injury. He served as the BYU quarterback coach from 1990-2003 and served as the varsity club director and the interim head coach for the women's golf team.Among BYU's great quarterbacks, Robbie Bosco will always be remembered as the one who brought the national championship home to Provo.

The Bible says that we are seated in Heavenly places with Christ Jesus and it is high time that believers wake up to the truth about who they are and the potential that they possess. TODAY'S GUEST: Rachel Adams is a Realtor, Public Speaker, Coach, Author, and Entrepreneur. She is 32 years old, lives in Northern California, and is the CEO of 4 different companies. In just 3 years in the real estate industry, Rachel had hit the top 1000 agents in the country for the Wallstreet Journal. On the outside looking in, her life was perfect. She had the perfect car, the perfect social life, and everything looked top notch. You could say she had the perfect "Facebook" life. But as we all know reality isn't always what it seems. And then one conversation changed everything. Rachel decided to start leading her life with full authenticity and intention and everything changed! She now travels around the United States teaching others and coaching on her life changing book and program, "Lost to Found in 90 Days". Rachel Adams was a successful Real Estate agent by all accounts, but her inner world was not in harmony with the persona she was putting on for others. Be sure to listen so you can hear what sparked the changes in Rachel that have transformed her. On the VidalSpeaks podcast I often talk about the importance of living a healthy life and it all begins with what's going on inside of you. You can't expect to care about healthy eating and lifestyle choices if you don't love yourself genuinely. Today my guest shares how she learned to care for herself first and how it fueled her into a life that is nothing short of transformed. You won't want to miss this conversation with Rachel Adams. Most people would look at the life Rachel Adams was living and think that she had it all together. Many would be envious. But they wouldn't have seen the things that were going on inside Rachel that made her sad, dissatisfied, and unhappy with who she'd become. On this episode Rachel shares the conversation that changed everything for her and what she had to do following to put into practice a better set of habits to move her life forward. Have you been in Rachel's shoes - in a place where you know that you're not happy inside but aren't sure that it's really something you need to pay attention to? Maybe you need a caring person to come into your life who will push you to ask the hard questions, like Rachel did. But I also think if you listen to Rachel's story you'll be challenged by what happened to her and can get moving to a better place as a result. Would you like to begin your own personal transformation journey like Rachel Adams did? You can begin by downloading the first 3 chapters of Rachel's book absolutely free simply because you're a listener to the VidalSpeaks podcast. NaNoWriMo continues, and while Belinda dashes ahead, Cara is stuck with computer issues. We welcome two amazing authors to PKA this week! First up, Katrina Rasbold: public speaker and professional life coach. She lectures throughout Central California and provides rootworking guidance to clients from her shop, the Botánica de La Reina, in Roseville California. She is the author of thirty-one books, all available through Amazon.com, and is a pioneer of the study of Bio-Universal energy. Then we'll chat with one of Cara's favorite authors: Viola Grace (aka Zenina Masters) a Canadian sci-fi/paranormal romance writer with ambitions to keep writing for the rest of her life. She specializes in short stories because the thrill of discovery, of all those firsts, is what keeps her writing. An artist who enjoys a story that catches you up, whirls you around and sets you down with a smile on your face is all she endeavours to be. She prefers to leave the drama to those who are better suited to it, she always goes for the cheap laugh. Listening to readers has gotten her this far, and with her 300th short story looming before the end of 2014, she will continue to listen in the future Usually, I'd put all the PKA stuff here, but my computer is possessed :) Do any of you read this anyway?
