Bible Reading: Hebrews 12:1-3"Savannah, I'm leaving for work," Mom said. "Be sure to set the house alarm when your bus gets here." When the bus arrived, Savannah set the alarm and started to dash out the door when…WHOOSH! Her favorite sweater, which had sleeves that were too long and too loose, caught on the door handle, holding her captive. When she finally got free and jumped on the bus, the kids laughed and asked, "What took you so long?" At least I remembered to set the alarm this time, Savannah thought. The alarm had been installed for extra security, and whoever arrived home first had thirty seconds to disable it by entering a secret code, otherwise it would start blaring. It was directly connected to the local police department, and the officers weren't amused when Savannah accidentally set it off…twice. That day after school, Savannah opened the door and heard the thirty-second warning start. Beep, beep, beep! She rushed to disable the alarm when, BAM! She was knocked flat on her back. It was her sweater again, caught on a chair. Beep, beep, beep! Unable to get free, Savannah wiggled out of the sweater just as the alarm started to blare ferociously. She sheepishly walked out to the porch to wait for the police car. "Hello, Officer Hamlin. I'm sorry," she said when the policeman arrived. She explained how her sweater had snared her. Later that evening, Mom laughed as Savannah told her about the day's events. "Savannah, do you remember what verse we talked about at church last Sunday?" "Not really," Savannah admitted. "Hebrews 12:1. It's about laying aside the sins that so easily snare us. In other words, we have to deal with those issues that get us into trouble, like bad habits and unkind attitudes.""This sweater sure has gotten me into trouble," Savannah said."Yes, but being snared by your sweater is different from being snared by sin, which holds us back from the life of love and joy that Jesus died to give us. That's why we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and trust Him to forgive our sins and help us out of their snares." Mom tugged Savannah's sleeve. Gardai say the group is now the primary drug trafficking cartel in Ireland after the Kinahan's network was dismantled. It's alleged to be involved in the multi million euro seizure of guns and cash in Dublin and Wexford earlier this week. The tip off came via Australian authorities which had infiltrated the Ghost messaging app. The encrypted software created by 32 year old Sydney man, Jay Je Yoon Jung, was the platform of choice for much of the Irish criminal fraternity. Marine researchers have landed the deepest fish ever caught off Australia from 6.5 kilometres under water. The two new unnamed species of snailfish have faces frozen in a frown like a sad clown and bodies made of translucent gel instead of skin and scales. Deep Sea Research Centre founding director and UWA professor Alan Jamieson told 6PR Breakfast they used a yabby trap bought from a Perth tackle shop, which they tied to a $100,000 piece of scientific monitoring equipment resistant to extreme pressure, to snare the rare fish. Satisfied Or Snared R Aylor Verse 12 mentions the root of the righteous and how it will bear fruit… and that is contrasted in the same verse with the wicked person coveting the spoils or fruit of those who do evil. Then in verse 13 we see how fruit begins bearing on the tree of the wicked man… that is… the fruit of his lips…which form traps. Solomon says he is ensnared so we find his words bring him into bondage. And then in verse 13 we find that the righteous is not snared by his own words but escapes from trouble… Finally in verse 14 Solomon continues referring to the fruit of a righteous persons lips and how this fruit which bears fruit in its root as verse 12 says, also bears fruit not only through the mouth but through the work of a mans hand. So to summarize what I am seeing here… It’s a matter of the heart that determines the fruit that our heart produces… the fruit our mouth produces and the fruit our hands produce. And we can surmise I think our heart determines what we meditate on in our mind, where our legs take us and all the things we do in our body whether good or bad. And since it’s all about the heart… You may remember a text we already looked at in Proverbs 4, verse 23-24 which says: 23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. 24 Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. So these things are linked one with another. And in Luke 6:45 Jesus said it this way: The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. But of course as a bad tree cannot make good fruit we need a good heart if we are to produce good fruit… which we do not have. Ezekiel 36: 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. Pray

A thought can become a belief that keeps us captive. But we can have an idea that captures us and inspires growth. We need to nurture the good and true. ‘It’s a weasel.’ The trap had caught and killed a weasel. We had noticed that some animal was eating some of the eggs in the chicken coop, so we had set out a trap. Now the culprit was caught and dead. Weasels and other animals like possums, rats, ferrets, and stoats cause a great deal of damage to our natural wildlife here in New Zealand. Before man coming to our Islands, there were only birds. It was just one happy, chirping bird-filled land. But with the introduction of animals such as possums, weasels, and alike it has been a war against the wild. We love our native birds and forests, and so we work hard at protecting them. Weasel thoughts In my thought life, I have some thoughts that are like weasels. They are repetitive, destructive, and so familiar that I don’t even realize that I’m thinking them. I can guarantee you have them or ones similar. ‘Nothing ever changes.’ ‘I’m dumb.’ ‘I’m ugly.’ ‘I’m not good at anything.’ Their weasels and they’re eating away the real beauty and power of your life. A little thought here and there, keeping you in the familiar territory where you have always thought that thought. That thought repeated over time, mixed with emotion, becomes your truth. Its the way you see the world. Some people believe the world is flat. They feed the notion. It dominates their thinking. It has captured them, and it has become their truth. Taking every thought captive I want to get a trap that can catch weasel thoughts. You have it connected into the garden of your brain, and every rodent thought that passes through the neuron network are trapped. Snared before it continues to do damage. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:5  that we are to ‘take every thought captive to obey Christ.’ We are to grasp every thought. Imagine yourself grasping a wriggling thought in your hand. You have it in your grip. You have caught it, and you examine it. Is this critter helpful or harmful? It needs to be obedient, to be under submission, and not allowed to roam free and wild in your life, destroying your beauty and purpose. Captured by a thought Let’s flip this around. How about a thought that has captured you? Being captive to an idea. I’ve had an idea recently that has captured my thinking. It started as an idea, just a little inkling. Then I kept feeding it and coming back to get to it. Holding it in my hands and pondering over it. It’s about this blog, and the people it reaches, how it’s a precious thing. It’s a community, and I so enjoy how it helps so many people. It’s an idea I want to foster, nourish, and see where it leads. Back to our illustration about the problem we have here in New Zealand about weasels, rats, and possums. Someone at some stage had an idea about creating pest-free zones. Small offshore Islands were made predator-free. Rare and endangered species of birds were given a home to flourish in. Then that thought of predator-free areas gained momentum, and more people caught the dream. They were captured by the idea of things being different. Thousands of people are now involved in making New Zealand predator-free. We have a goal of New Zealand being predator-free by 2050.  I don’t know whether we will ever become predator-free, but every step towards it is a good one. What thought has captured you?  For many struggling with a Mental Illness, there is an element of being captured by a thought of despair. That tomorrow will be the same as yesterday. That there is no hope. Repeated time and time again through the neural networks, it can become so hardwired that it becomes like a flat earth belief system. It is your truth and all you know. It is how you see the world. A new thought needs to take capture of you. What anyone of us can do is to invite a good, holy thought of divine inspiration to trickle into our subconscious. We can then nourish and feed that thought. Dwell in it and let it capture us much like a beautiful sunrise or the early morning song of a bird. God, trickle into my thinking a thought of divine beautyand purpose. Help me to be captivated by it.  For the next few moments, we invite that thought to be our calling. It grows and displaces those varmints out of the way. What we focus on grows. What I focus on gets me. Focus on the negatives/ challenges will always take me down. Focus on the positives/ good things will always give me hope. – From my thinking compass Were not going to make New Zealand predator-free in the next few moments, but in the moment of today, we can do what we can do. "Snared: Lair of the Beast" is the second book in the "Snared" series by Adam Jay Epstein. These are books for middle readers, meaning they are officially intended for readers up to age 14 or so. Unofficially it means they are highly readable with a plot that moves and characters who you really like. Wily Snared is the name of a precocious kid who thinks he's a "hobgoblet" living in a dungeon as the "trapmaster." In truth he's a human with unusual and mysterious parents, something he learns gradually as he joins an adventurous group of dungeon raiders in book one, called "Snared: Escape to the Above." This is a fun father's day conversation and something you can share with kids who love adventure stories and wonder how an author goes about creating them.
