My decision tostart Sounding Board was born from these beliefs of mine: 1. 85% ofleadership coaching goes toward the C-suite, but those execs always told methey wished they had this kind of leadership development earlier in theircareer. 2. Managing andreporting on the coaching process can be done far better and more affordablywith great technology than without. You can reach many more leaders with greatsoftware backing you up. 3. Leaders are madethrough failure. The job of a coach is to provide a trusted space to say thehard things, the difficult things, that encourage leaders to bring themselvesto the next level of maturity and development. Wisdom of a Yogi with Rizwan Virk Cynthia Sue Larson talks with Rizwan Virk about lessons we can learn from the Autobiography of a Yogi, including: the value of setbacks on our path, karmic and unexpected lessons, and the value of practicing every day.  Virk describes how Simulation Theory can be viewed from a materialistic perspective with NPC (non-player characters), or it can be seen as involving RPG (role-playing game characters) in which individuals have the ability to experience making choices resulting in changes to physical reality.  Virk shares miraculous stories of saints with 'two bodies' who bilocate, and the value of practicing yoga in order that we can stop the generation of whirlpools of thoughts and feelings that otherwise can harden into karma.  There is an ancient Sanskrit meaning to the word, 'Avatar,' that helps to clarify how we can view ensoulment as occurring when we put on a game headset or are embodied into a human body when we are born.  With awareness that we are living in a Simulation, and have the ability to influence reality, magic and miracles are possible. This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that has the power to make 1-1 coaching approachable for all of us. My guest is Christine Tao, Co-founder & CEO at Sounding Board. Throughout her career, a central theme for Christine has always been leadership development. She uncovered the power coaching could have on people when she acted in her role as Senior Vice President of Developer Relations at Tapjoy, a mobile advertising platform, where she led the growth of Tapjoy's network business from 0 to more than $100 million in revenue in less than 3 years.  She experienced it from the other end when she advised several venture-backed startups including Flyby Media (acquired by Apple), Immersv, and Comprendi.  She realized firsthand that today's workforce is increasingly overwhelmed and stressed with increasing responsibilities and an always-on culture. This inspired her to do something about it. Today, Christine is the CEO & Co-founder of Sounding Board, a company that was founded around the vision to make coaching accessible to leaders at all levels of the organization and break through the high-cost barriers that had made it impossible in the past. Its mission: Develop the world's most impactful leaders. And this inspired me, and hence I invited Christine to my podcast. We explore what's broken in the world of leadership coaching and how this - by blending technology and people in the right way can be a thing of the past.  Christine further shares her big lessons learned during the pandemic - and how she and her team not only secured Sounding Board would survive but actually come out stronger as a company.  During this interview, you will learn four things: That the question in a Pandemic is not: 'where should we cut', but 'where can we continue to invest' How to create an organization that's aligned and autonomous, and at the same time more creative and powerful That the way to survive an existential crisis is not to increase focus on your own company, but on that of your customers Why being bootstrapped - and being less well-capitalized than your competitors can be very helpful. The notion that leaders are born and not made can feel oppressive to founders and others working their way up the business ladder. Leadership is isolating enough without the toxic mythology that you’re just supposed to know how to do from the get-go. Our guest today, Christine Tao, Co-Founder and CEO of Sounding Board, is working to normalize coaching for CEOs, Founders, and others who want to become better leaders. Sounding Board allows organizations to manage, scale, and measure coaching on one unified platform. Their AI-Powered admin tools and centralized data insights integrate with our proprietary, managed coach network to deliver coaching at scale. Sounding Board recently closed a $30M Series B funding round led by JAZZ Venture Partners.About Christine Tao:Christine co-founded Sounding Board in 2016 to solve the most challenging yet important part of her role as SVP of a fast-growing VC-backed startup: Leadership Development. Her experience as an operator at stops like YouTube and Tapjoy has helped guide at Sounding Board. She did her undergrad at UC Berkeley and her MBA at Wharton.A word from our sponsor:Ripple Ventures is always focused on helping our founders and CEOs find the best partners to work with. But before we introduce any provider to our companies, we always make sure we try the product first. And when it comes to managing business expenses at Ripple, we were super excited when the team at Jeeves came knocking on our door.Jeeves helped get me and my team setup with physical and virtual credit cards in days. I was able to allow my teammates to expense items in multiple currencies allowing them to pay for anything, anywhere at any time. We weren’t asked for any personal guarantees or pay any setup or annual fees either. Not only does Jeeves save us time, but they also give us up to 3% cashback on our purchases including expenses like Google, Facebook or AWS every month. The best part,  Jeeves puts up the cash, and you settle up once every 30 days, unlike some other corporate card companies that make you pre-pay every month. The global mobile gaming market is estimated to reach over $77 billion in revenue by the end of 2020. There are many reasons for the persistent growth and player retention in the space, and to learn more, we spoke to Sarah Chafer, EVP of global ad sales at Tapjoy. Tapjoy connects game publishers and advertisers, enabling brands to advertise and monetize on a wide breadth of mobile platforms. “A lot of what we do is around user choice,” Sarah told us. “We offer them a wide variety of things that they can do in order to transact for currency. If you think about being a user or consumer yourself, how often is it that you get to decide which advertiser you’re going to transact with versus having some unwanted messaging that maybe doesn’t apply to you personally?” We spoke with Sarah about monetization practices in mobile games, and learned about the special, mutually beneficial dynamic between players, games, and advertised brands.

On this episode, Hall is joined by Anu Shukla of Botco.ai. Before Botco.ai Anu started her career in Silicon Valley working for companies in the marketing, automation and E-commerce space. She then started a company called Rubric, it was one of the pioneers of defining enterprise marketing automation, there were no enterprise tools for marketing available before that, and the company had a successful exit. She then went on to found a company called Offerpal, which changed its name to Tapjoy. It was a mobile advertising network that reached hundreds of millions of users. Anu was also in the payment space with a company called RewardsPay, which she still runs, that does alternative currency payments and now involved with investing and working with a team to get Botco.ai off the ground. In this episode, you'll hear Anu's unique views on the AI space and what advice she'd give to those investing. According to Anu, she's a firm believer in AI but one must define what that means. The time for AI and its permeation into all different types of computing has come. So whether you talk about self-driving cars, or robots in factories, or in the case of software you talk about artificial intelligence being applied to marketing and sales or customer surveys, where it's trying to initiate and manage conversations and natural language, she thinks it's permeating everywhere and is a big area of investment.

This week special guest is Charles Rim from Access Ventures. Prior to founding Access, Charles was the managing director of Korea and Southeast Asia at Tapjoy and a Venture Partner for DFJ Athena based in Seoul. Prior to that Charles had been immersed in the expansion of the internet in the APAC region. He was the head of M&A APAC for Google, and led all deals by Google in the APAC region (excluding-China) from 2006 to 2011. He was also a director of strategy and corporate development at Yahoo Korea.   Together, we discuss why now is the ideal time to start investing heavily into Southeast Asia and why foreign investors tend to look at SEA as a whole, but should rather approach each country on its own.  And we go on to hear why Charles is a strong believer on why ever founder should position their company for an exit and what factors should be considered when planning an exit strategy. Hope you guys enjoy this one!
