Welcome back to Making Bank! Today's episode we have Naveen Jain, who is a visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist, dedicated to addressing the world's most pressing challenges through innovation. He has founded several successful companies, including Moon Express, BlueDot, Viome, TalentWise, and InfoSpace, each reflecting his commitment to transformative solutions.   (3:40) Being An Entrepreneur Many people believe that being an entrepreneur means starting a company. However, true entrepreneurs are problem solvers. There are three types of people: those who identify problems, those who complain about them, and those who are smart enough to find solutions.   (6:05) Selling Your Vision When you begin with a clear belief or vision, focus on your audacious goal—the big problem you're trying to solve. If people believe in you and your vision, they'll be eager to support and invest in everything you offer.   (13:10) Achieving Big Goals When you set a big, audacious goal, break it down into the smallest actionable steps. Each step you take should move you closer to that goal. You can't achieve the big picture all at once, so focus on executing one slice at a time. By the time you're finished, you'll have completed the entire journey.   (17:42) Microbiome Your gut microbiome produces essential nutrients your body needs, like short-chain fatty acids. To maintain this balance, you must feed your microbiome the right foods. Personalized nutrition is key, as our unique microbiomes require specific diets for optimal health.   (30:47) Raising Kids Make sure your kids know your love is unconditional, but your approval must be earned. Teach them that true self-worth comes from creating, not just owning. Wealth doesn't define value—contribution does.   (39:52) Mindset As an entrepreneur, focus on addressing root causes and creating abundance. While sustainability often gets equated with conservation—using less to save more—the real path to success is about generating more, not just cutting back. To achieve true sustainability, focus on creating more of everything, rather than merely conserving.   (48:56) Intellectual Curiosity Intellectual curiosity is crucial; if you're not learning every day, you risk becoming obsolete. Stopping your pursuit of knowledge equates to stagnation. To stay vibrant and relevant, continually seek new learning opportunities.   Tags: Instagram: Naveen Jain @naveenjainceo

Today's Pathfinder episode features Phantom Space cofounder and CEO Jim Cantrell. The Tucson-based space transportation company is focused on the mass production of rockets. Jim began his career at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab and the French Space Agency (CNES), working on Mars exploration technologies and a joint French-Soviet Mars program. He was a founding member of SpaceX, serving as its first VP of business development. He later co-founded Moon Express, a company focused on commercial lunar robotic transportation and Vector Space, a micro-launch vehicle company.Phantom primer: Phantom's strategy focuses around a central idea: mass production of rockets. Instead of going all-in on vertical integration, Cantrell's choosing to leverage the expertise of outside specialists for key technology—for example, propulsion company Ursa Major is fueling Phantom's rocket engines. By providing some but not all the R&D, the company can operate with a substantially leaner core staff. The thought is that this mass-produced, “Henry Ford”-like development and production approach will substantially lower costs and increase efficiency. Cantrell says that Phantom's price tag to get to space will be roughly $100M, substantially lower than competitors. The company's product roadmap includes:The Daytona, which is a two-stage rocket designed to deliver payloads up to 450 kgs to LEO, is expected to first launch in late 2024/early 2025.Its larger sibling, Laguna, has a planned lift capacity of 1,200 kgs to LEO with the first launch expected in 2027. The Laguna will have both an expendable and reusable configuration for its first stage similar to SpaceX's Falcon 9.In addition to Phantom's early days, Mo and Jim discuss: The infamous Elon and Russian ICBM storyLearnings from VectorThe evolution of venture capitalists and spacePros/cons of vertical integrationTeam constructionAnd much more… This episode is brought to you by SpiderOak, a US-based software company that builds space cybersecurity products and solutions for civilian, military, and commercial space operations. The Lesson: How can we ensure that we get the most out of education? What will be the future of primary healthcare? What is the most logical way of looking at failure, disappointment, or disaster? How can we reverse our biological age? Serial entrepreneur Naveen Jain gives his perspective on how to plan and execute a more harmonious future. Notable Excerpt: "We are thinking backward as we're educating our children. This idea that you develop one skill and you stay in your lane has to go away, because the whole education system was designed for the industrial era, where you learned to do machining and could work for the rest of your life. As we are living in this society today where the technologies are becoming obsolete by the time you even graduate, you have to learn to learn, you have to create children that are constantly learning." The Guest: Naveen Jain became an entrepreneur and philanthropist after leaving the higher echelons of Microsoft. He founded InfoSpace, Intelius, TalentWise, and Bluedot. Today, Jain is an executive and co-founder of Viome, a gut microbiome testing service. He's also involved in Moon Express, a company aiming at lunar mining for elements like cobalt,  niobium, and others. The Podcast: Livin' Good Currency explores the relationship of time to our lives. Naveen Jain is the founder and CEO of one of the biggest companies from the dot-com boom era, and now he has set his sights on the moon.   His company, Moon Express, plans to send a rocket to the moon as a business venture to collect rare minerals and resources, and then bring them back to Earth. He also plans to make travel to the moon and other planets accessible to all of us at some point in the future. Naveen is the founder of InfoSpace, the first company to develop services that were sold to other companies that then white-labeled those services on their own web sites. According to Naveen, InfoSpace was the first company to realize that people would eventually want to use the internet on mobile devices. Naveen co-founded Intelius, the information commerce company that gives users access to basic information about people all on one site. In 2010, Naveen started Moon Express with the goal of bringing rare minerals back to the Earth for use in a number of applications, such as energy uses. Going to the moon is not the only goal of Moon Express, and Naveen sees it as the start of developing a multi-planetary society. Naveen explains how Moon Express will become both commercially viable and also sustainable as a company. In addition to space, Naveen sees the medical diagnostics field as another big industry in which he sees potential large growth over the next five to ten years. Naveen says the biggest societal problems offer entrepreneurs the most opportunity. Education is another field in which he sees a need to address training for current jobs that weren't around 20 years ago. Also, another important area is looking for solutions for at-risk countries that do not have accessible, clean drinking water. Naveen believes we need to first solve our own internal problems before we tackle the world's problems. He thinks being at peace with who we are, and finding our purpose and mission, are key factors to finding that solution. He says the process of becoming more fluent in producing ideas lies in having intellectual curiosity, learning for the sake of learning, and getting basic fundamental knowledge in the areas that interest us. As far as finding our own mission in life, Naveen says ask yourself "What would you do if you had a billion dollars?" He says do that career now, and you'll find a business around it.
