Send us a textJoin us as we venture into the timeless world of music history with the esteemed Tom Locke, an accomplished music historian and author. Discover the magic behind his latest book, "Moments in Time 2.0," as he shares the inspiration drawn from the vibrant eras of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Tom unveils how beloved songs like Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" find their roots in earlier classics such as Tommy James' original version. With a groundbreaking feature that integrates QR codes, Tom's books allow readers to experience songs directly while reading, adding a new dimension to music appreciation. We also navigate through the evolving definition of "oldies" and the crucial role that timing plays in a song's success, exemplified by Tommy Edwards' unforgettable "It's All in the Game."The episode also honors Joel Whitburn's monumental contributions to music history, a guiding influence on Tom Locke's remarkable journey. Tom recalls a poignant exchange with Whitburn, emphasizing the deep connections music fosters. Additionally, Tom brings music's therapeutic power to life, sharing heartwarming experiences from his interactive presentations for individuals with Alzheimer's in aged care communities. These stories remind us of the enduring emotional bonds that music creates across generations. As we express our gratitude to Tom for his insightful stories, we invite you to share in this musical celebration and join us next week for more engaging conversations on The Jay Franze Show.LinksJay Franze: https://JayFranze.comTom Locke: https://www.mitstories.com/ Support the show

Today I'm thrilled to get to introduce to you: MK ULTRA and Project Stargate survivor and whistleblower, targeted individual, podcaster, musician, athlete and former Virginia Tech all-American running back, entrepreneur, mental health advocate, and hometown hero from the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA: Tommy Edwards aka: Touchdown Tommy!Tommy's story begins in childhood after a strange series of events led to him bumping into a CIA remote viewer at Tasty Freeze in his hometown of Radford, VA who put him into the Stargate program. Years later in 2005, he met an old blind man who would change the trajectory of his life by reintroducing a number of concepts to Tommy's front personality that he had been extensively trained in as a child and young adult under hypnosis, sedation and trance states that he's just beginning to understand as being his alters. This old man would gradually prophesize something tragic was going to happen in Tommy's hometown and after another series of events that wouldn't make sense until later, Tommy moved home to VA to help his father - who, like Tommy, was a college football phenom at Virginia Tech where they both wore the number 33 and where Tommy earned the nickname, Touchdown Tommy. After heading home in the beginning of April 2007, a headline on the TV stopped Tommy in his tracks: “33 Dead at Virginia Tech”. This was when Tommy began speaking out publicly about mental health and the beginning of his journey weaving together the tapestry of his double-life and piecing together the people, places and things that never made sense… until now. I'm honored to have Tommy as another strong male leading the survivor movement. He's a man of many accolades - too many to put into a short introduction, but what I do want to note is that Tommy still isn't free. You will hear of the strange events that took place in Tommy's childhood today and what you will also discover is that Tommy, like many survivors you've heard on this show, isn't free even though he broke free of what held him captive as a child. He is still targeted, gang-stalked, and is still being victimized. And this is why it's so important for survivors like Tommy to speak out. We need to bring attention to the entirety of a survivor's testimony and the real dangers they face just for opposing evil and speaking out against it. I'm thrilled for us all to learn from Tommy and ask that you all put away whatever you are doing and give him your full attention. We are going to be diving deep into some rabbit holes today! If you grew up in Chicago in the 70s and 80s, you were truly blessed by some of the most talented announcers in the country. When I was a teen, WLS and WCFL were on all the time. My podcast guest this time was not only an exceptional announcer but an innovative manager who introduced many of the great contest ideas, and elements we grew up with. He was also part of the famous "Animal Stories" broadcast on WLS. Not only that but while working with the Chicago Bulls, he introduced music during stoppages of play that have become the standard operating procedures for decades. That magical mind and voice is the legendary "Lil Snot-nosed" Tommy Edwards and he is truly Someone You Should Know. Frankie Vaughan seemed to be constantly present on British Television in 1960s. Mr Moonlight they called him. He had a big voice and a big stage presence, top hat, bow tie and tails. He had many hits during the 1950s and had a brief career in Holywood. Most notably opposite Marilyn Monroe in Lets make Love. Here he gives us The Green door. Lita Rosa- Hernando's Hideaway. Rosa started her stage career at the age of 12. At 24 she was lead female singer with Ted Heath. A strong voice which probably never reached its full potential with the material she was given. Variety is the spice of life on Forgotten Songs. So next up is Tom Wright with Driving into Glasgae in a sour milk cairt. Its billed as traditional on the Beltona label. It's not but was written in 1914 by Tom Johnstone for the comedian J.C macDonald. It's in broad Scots. Two from a F.S favourite, Kay Starr- Too busy and If you love me. Dickie Valentine was a popular crooner in Britain through the 50s. Like many British singers he existed on a diet of American covers. He died in a car crash in 1971. Joan Regan and The Squadronaires give us Ricochet. The Squadronaires were the R.A.F big band. There is some confusion of her birth name and exactly where she was born.  Again she did a lot of American covers through the 50s but her U.S recorded version of Don't talk to me of love become a Northern Soul classic. Languishing in the F.S colection has been this piece of US Billbord chart history from Tommy Edwards. It's all in the game was the first number one by an African American in the chart. Released in 1958 it was the biggest hit from this singer- song writer. He sadly died young at 47. Frank Ferera with Beautiful Love. He was a Hawaiian music pioneer. We go all posh with Air on a G string with Norbert Wethmar on violin. The only information I can be certain of about him are two references from The Radio Times in the late 1930s. Two performances with the BBC Orchestra. Florrie Forde was the Australian born grand Dame of British Music hall. Whose career spanned Victorian variety theatre to entertaining the troops in Aberdeen in 1940. She died after the performance, aged 64. Her songs included- Hold out your hand you naughty boy, Down at the old Bull and Bush and I do like to be by the seaside. Here she gives us When we were strolling around town. Maurice Winnick was another Manchester born musical child prodigy. As a teenager he was a band leader on a transatlantic liner. He had a succesful career through the 1930s and 40s. He died in 1960. He plays a lovely version of The Waltz you saved for me. The Platters need no introduction and neither does the song- Smoke gets in your eyes. Okay its not forgotten but how often do you hear it directly from the original 78?

Tommy Edwards is a retired American public address announcer for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association. Edwards was the arena voice for the Bulls at Chicago Stadium from 1976-1990.[1] During his first tenure with the team, Edwards is credited with originating the Bulls' famous signature style of introducing the starting lineups with "And now..."[1] Edwards was also the first stadium announcer to play Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll (which became one of America's most popular sports anthems).[1] In 2006, Edwards returned to the Bulls, replacing Steve Scott as the United Center arena voice. Tommy Edwards was also a DJ and program director at several Chicago area radio stations, including WLS, WCFL and WKQX. He was part of the famous "Animal Stories" (as Little "Snot-Nosed" Tommy) with Larry Lujack on WLS and WRLL. Edwards programmed WODS in Boston from 1990 to 1992, then moved to KCBS-FM in Los Angeles, where he created the "Arrow" (All Rock & Roll Oldies) format. He most recently worked at 104.3 K-Hits, an oldies station broadcasting out of Chicago.[2] Edwards retired from radio on September 12, 2014, after a 54-year career.[3][4] Edwards was born in Topeka, Kansas and lives in Lake Forest, Illinois. He began in radio at KTOP in Topeka and worked at WEAM in Washington DC and WOR-FM in New York City before moving to Chicago. Tommy announced that the Chicago Bulls game against the Houston Rockets on November 9, 2019 would be his last as a PA announcer. He retired and moved to the West Coast to be closer to his children.

The public address announcer said on Thursday that this coming Saturday’s Bulls game against the Rockets will be his final at the United Center, deciding to retire after 25 years of work for the team. “My time with the Bulls has been a dream come true, and I feel so fortunate to have spent a total of 25 seasons with this iconic franchise,” said Edwards in a statement released by the team.  “I want to extend my sincere thanks to Jerry and Michael Reinsdorf, the entire Bulls organization and the world’s greatest fans for their unwavering support. I will forever be a Bulls fan.” Edwards was behind the mic for games at Chicago Stadium from 1976-1981 and then again from 1983-1990. Sixteen years later, Edwards returned to the team to be the PA for games at the United Center and continuing in that role for 13 years. In total, Edwards was behind the mic for over 1,000 games. Now secretly, and not so secretly if you follow me on social, I want RAY CLAY to resume his former role as the Bulls PA Announcer. For those of you new to the show that don’t know who Ray Clay is, Let me refresh Your Memory.. Beyond being the voice of the Bulls throughout the Jordan Championship years, he’s also the guy you hear at the beginning and end of The Bulls Podcast. He was gracious enough to do that intro for us and we are keeping it forever. So if you’re on social, Tweet, IG, whatever.. Tell the Bull that you want Ray Clay to come back. We need that energy again. Energize the fans and the fans energize the players. It’s all full circle. State of The Bulls: Coach Boylen Doesn’t Care When we started the year. Things were looking really great for the team. It seemed like we had all of the pieces to do a substantial run into the playoffs this year. That was the goal that Gar/Pax, Coach Jim Boylen and the rest of the team repeated over and over. “Our Goal is to make the playoffs this year and we think we can do it..” Well, things haven’t worked out so far this year. The excuse that Boylen doesn’t have all of his players healthy at the same time, is not the case this year. The post Bulls Podcast #44 appeared first on Chicago Bullseye.

John Records Landecker is a bona fide radio star, soon to be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.  He’s perhaps best know for his trademark saying "Records Truly is My Middle Name” also the name of his book ─ now entering it’s second printing with an updated “Hall of Fame” edition.  Starting in small market Michigan radio, he quickly ascended to major markets like Philly and Chicago, where for years he held court at the legendary “Big 89, WLS” (or as he put it, “the Enormous but not too gaudy 89”). There he was part of a lineup that included such radio luminaries as Larry Lujack, Tommy Edwards, Fred Winston, and Dick Biondi to name just a few.  John is also famous for benchmark bits like “Boogie Check”, “Americana Panorama” and “Press My Conference”. Next came stints at other Chicago stations including WJMK, Magic 104.7 and his weekend show "Into the Seventies”. All this was followed by a return to WLS, both on AM and FM in the 2000’s, and he’s still going strong today with a show on his local hometown station WEFM!   In this episode, we’re treated to some strong insights from a Hall of Famer who has been to the mountaintop – and is not afraid to speak out.

I live with a super social twelve-year-old.  Our home is conveniently located within biking and walking distance to a vast majority of her friends.  Therefore, I interact with dozens, seemingly hundreds, of middle-schoolers on the reg.  That means “regularly.”  Not only do I hear, and apparently absorb (…totes…) their language, but I also hear, and often abhor, their music.  At times, I’m tempted to let something much like this slip from my mouth, “Music is horrible today.” Guess what, though? It’s not true. What I’d really be saying is, “When I was a kid…our shitty pop music was less shitty than this generation’s shitty pop music.”  But see, shitty pop music is shitty pop music is shitty pop music.  And also, all art is relative, and personal, and wrought with nostalgic, emotional overlay. I realized this as Jen played, “Hit the Quan” for me.  If you stream the podcast just below this post, you can hear both the song and the insights. For those of you who’ll just read, and to assure myself that, indeed, every decade’s shitty pop…let’s call it Poop Music, is merely soon-to-be-dated Poop, I did some research.  I use the term “research” quite loosely.  What I really did was look at the “List of Billboard Top 100 chart achievements by decade” on Wikipedia, within which I found the top songs of each decade back to 1958.  That’s right, 1958.  People, Wikipedia is absolutely wonderful for many things.  Not serious academic research, and not as a solitary source.  Don’t dismiss it out of hand just because it’s crowd-sourced.  While it only takes one dick to ruin something, the crowd generally trumps the dick.  However, also realize that the community created a 1958 – 1969 “decade” because, I dunno, the dick won there. So, for any of you who’ve claimed, in your best crotchety old-man/old-woman demeanor, “Music ain’t like it used to be,” feast your eyes on these lists.  (And hell, link through to the videos to feast your ears as well!)  Keep in mind, there are absolute gems of pop perfection in each decade…and there are heaping mounds of steaming shit as well.  All the way back to the decade that began in, uh…1958.  I won’t try to convince you which songs here are genius, which are formulaic, which are immediately forgetful, unforgettable, and which are vomit-worthy.  I only ask you to keep track of your reactions as you travel back…and be completely honest with yourself. Because a turd by any other name would smell as putrid.
