Actress and filmmaker Heather Graham joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss acts of kindness throughout her lengthy career, how her new film Chosen Family helped her learn to keep people pleasing under control, holding unconditional self-love and more. HEATHER GRAHAM discovered her passion for acting at an early age and caught the attention of filmmakers with her breakout role in Gus Van Sant's DRUGSTORE COWBOY, for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Graham went on to land unforgettable roles in the 1997 classic BOOGIE NIGHTS, for which she received the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance, in 1999's AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME and in 2009's THE HANGOVER alongside Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifinakis.  Graham has expanded into writing, directing, and producing, proving herself to be a multi-hyphenate leading talent with critically acclaimed, HALF MAGIC, a film she wrote and directed, which was released in theaters and on VOD February 2018. The raunchy, female-driven comedy follows three women set out on a hilarious search for self-fulfillment while overcoming the roadblocks in their personal and professional lives. Graham also executive produced and starred in the feature film CAKE, a romantic comedy also starring Sandra Oh and Cheryl Hines. That self-fulfillment theme, along with a throughline of people pleasing is prevalent in her latest flick - CHOSEN FAMILY. Graham wrote, directed, and starred in the rom-com, which debuted in 2024. This movie is a centerpiece to today's conversation, along with kindness, of course. In addition to more producing, up next, Graham will be featured alongside Nicolas Cage in the Western THE GUNSLINGERS. Deep in the heart of Percolated Media's DC/Batman retrospective lies this look at The Lego Batman Movie, a movie that coming in Garrett was still at a loss as to why they were reviewing it. That answer and others are given in this dive into Lego's attempt to kind of lighten things up, as the DARKNESS that came with Zack Snyder's handling of the DCEU universe was still going full swing. With The Lego Movie being a huge success in 2014, they set forth on their attempt to capitalize with a full movie about what was looked at as its main highlight - their portrayal of Batman. With Will Arnett back voicing the Caped Crusader and Zach Galifinakis here as his arch nemesis(or is he?) the Joker, they seemed to have the formula in place to make an entertaining night at the movies for Adam and his children. But was it? Listen in as Garrett joins who he sometimes considers his greatest enemies Adam and Matt as they review The Lego Batman Movie, and try to figure out if it is a successful diversion or a further dive into a lot of the mediocrity they've been reviewing as of late.

Enjoy An Album with Liam Withnail & Christopher Macarthur-Boyd

Postponed for years by Epic Records who thought that it lacked commercial appeal, early demos and bootlegs from Extraordinary Machine were eventually leaked forcing the label to “Free Fiona”. Originally produced by Paul Thomas Anderson collaborator Jon Brion and then later mastered by Mike Elizondo, Extraordinary Machine is a hard-nosed alt-pop record filled with odd percussion, biting lyrics and loungey venom. It's also #444 on Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, which means it's time for Liam Withnail and Christopher Macarthur-Boyd to Enjoy An Album. They talk about everything from Zach Galifinakis' lip-synching to Philip Seymour Hoffman's wonderful son, as well as managing to squeeze in Tattoo Woohoo/Tattoo Boohoo and Secret Posho. I'll  never forget the first time I saw Louie starring comedian Louis C.K. Chris discovered it on one of the entertainment websites he reads and made sure we were ready so we didn't miss it. To say I was blown away would be just about accurate. It was smart, endearing, and funny. So as you can imagine, I was thrilled to interview Executive Producer M.Blair Breard about how Louie came to be, and the other groundbreaking projects she and Louis CK have been working on since. Pictured: M. Blair Breard. CR: FX Blair is Louis C.K.'s producing partner at their company, Pig Newton. Together they have created some of the most critically acclaimed comedies over the last 6 years. Better Things, One Mississippi, Baskets, Horace and Pete and the Emmy Award-winning Louie. And although she is primarily in television now, she cut her teeth in film in New York. I could not imagine a tougher road if I tried. But she kept at it, one job at a time until eventually she met Louis on the film Pootie Tang and her trajectory changed. Zach Galifinakis stars in Baskets on FX Even though he didn't have much experience then, Blair says it was his strong point of view that drew her to his writing. And clearly that hasn't changed. He has a very specific style of comedy which she says works perfectly with her style of producing.  He's the creative guy. She's the numbers gal. It's a match made in comedy heaven. Blair also tells me she was nervous as a film producer when she decided to become a mom. She admits she didn't know if she would get hired again, or if anyone would treat her differently. It's interesting to hear such an accomplished producer talk about the same challenges we all face at various levels in this business. My favorite story she tells, is about the time she says she told everyone on her crew van that she was breastfeeding, and if they didn't like it they could get out. And let's just say, no one got out. We talked about Pamela Adlon's new show Better Things on FX and how it's basically my life. Except less famous. The show is so real it almost feels like we shouldn't be watching this woman struggle through parenthood and her career. Pamela plays Sam Fox, a single mother and actress with no filter. The nuances of the jokes are so brilliant. You just want to hug this mom because you either are this mom, or you know her. It also stars “Max” (Mikey Madison), “Frankie” (Hannah Alligood) and “Duke” (Olivia Edward) who play her daughters. BETTER THINGS -- Pictured: Pamela Adlon as Sam. Photo Cr: James Minchin/FX Blair says she was, again, drawn to Pamela's idea because of her strong point of view. (Are you sensing a theme here?) And Tig Notaro's show One Mississippi for the same reason. Another thing these women have in common, is that they're women! We discussed the rise in the number of women behind the camera on TV, creating their own path. Get it ladies! I especially loved what she said about encouraging writers to just start writing. Embrace your mistakes and try anyway because that's how you learn and grow. She didn't confirm if Louie will be back on FX anytime soon, but she does hint that there are some fun projects in the works at Pig Newton. I imagine if they're anything like what the last 6 years have given us, we are in for more groundbreaking comedies. You can follow M. Blair Breard on Twitter @BlairBreard and watch Better Things Thursdays on FX. One Mississippi is available now on Amazon. And of course Louie is still TBD, but we're keeping our fingers crossed. Ep. 48: Brad Jenkins is Black and Korean.  His dad is an African-American veteran who served in Viet Nam and, later, met Brad's mother, a Korean national, while stationed in Korea.  But, growing up Black and Korean in an almost all-White town is just a small part of Brad's story. After attending college at the University of Virginia and working in a law firm and then on Wall Street, Brad found himself in Silicon Valley and then working on the Obama campaign in 2008.  Fast forward a couple of years, and Brad found himself working in the White House for President Obama as the Associate Director of the Office of Public Engagement.  In that role, he ultimately played a part in bringing to fruition the now famous Between Two Ferns episode featuring Zach Galifinakis interviewing President Obama, a video which went viral and raised awareness about Obamacare.  To see the video, click here: https://youtu.be/UnW3xkHxIEQ After his tenure in the White House, Brad moved on to Funny or Die (the folks behind the Between Two Ferns video), where he serves as an Executive Producer and Managing Director of Funny or Die's Washington, D.C. office. When not hard at work, Brad also has moved onto the stage as a public speaker, and recently gave a TEDx talk about his Afro-Asian heritage, and lessons he learned from his dad.  To see that talk, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3S__-5-FHQ All in all, he has a fascinating story, and you don't want to miss it.
