Nikki G isn't the type to say “I told you so.” Nevertheless, it was just one year ago when she was on the podcast, walking us through the evangelical vision behind Project 2025 and the looming theocratic dominionism of the far right. Now that the NAR agenda (see Ep.81) is coming to pass, she's back to regroup. Nikki & I discuss how to maintain sanity and balance under narcissistic rule, what it means to occupy our lane in the resistance, and why an understanding of cult dynamics is such a pragmatic consideration right now. We talk leadership, the intoxication of power, and standing arm-in-arm, steadfast and unwavering in our values, while leaders attempt to colonize our thinking and rob us of hope. This episode is a jam-packed dialogue offering support and a collectivist call to action. For more with Nikki, also see TDP Ep.77 + Ep.81 & 82.Nikki G. is a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach who helps survivors recover and thrive after Religious Trauma & Cult involvement. Hi friends, welcome back to the podcast! I'm thrilled to share this deeply insightful conversation I had with Stacey Uhrig, a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach who has a gift for breaking down the complexities of developmental trauma into something we can all understand and work with.In this episode, Stacey and I explore how our childhood patterns and core beliefs influence our lives—and how we can heal and transform them to find greater peace, joy, and connection. Stacey's approach draws heavily from Internal Family Systems (IFS), a therapeutic model developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz that looks at the different “parts” within us and how they work together—or sometimes in conflict—to shape our inner world. Here's what we cover:What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)? Stacey explains how our inner parts develop as a response to survival needs, creating a fascinating internal system that's here to protect us, even if it sometimes causes us stress or pain.Understanding Our Inner Parts: Stacey describes how these internal “managers,” “firefighters,” and “exiles” influence our behaviors, relationships, and decision-making.From Trauma to Wholeness: We dive into how IFS helps us connect with our authentic self, clearing emotional layers and finding self-leadership.Tools and Resources: Stacey shares her favorite books like No Bad Parts by Dr. Richard Schwartz and encourages exploring IFS-trained therapists or coaches for deeper work. This conversation was so healing and enlightening for me, and I hope it resonates deeply with you too. I left feeling empowered to approach my inner world with more compassion and curiosity—and I can't wait for Stacey to come back for another episode!Connect with Stacey Uhrig:Website: flipyourmindset.comInstagram: @staceyuhrigYouTube: Flip Your MindsetStay Connected with Me:Website: katiefarinas.comInstagram: @katiemomandyogiEmail: katie@momontheverge.orgIf this episode spoke to you, I'd love for you to share it with someone you care about! Developmental trauma refers to the impact of early, repeated trauma and loss within a child's most important relationships. This typically occurs in the earliest years of life. This kind of trauma isn't always loud or obvious. It can be subtle; emotional neglect we don't remember, an abandonment wound that lingers beneath the surface, or toxic stress that quietly eats away. All of this we carry into adulthood, taking a toll on our well-being. Developmental trauma occurring before the age of five—officially termed childhood developmental trauma—falls under the broader category of complex trauma, also known as Complex PTSD (CPTSD). Its effects can last a lifetime. While it often stems from childhood, complex trauma can also develop through repeated distressing experiences in adulthood. The weight of unresolved trauma can manifest in our bodies, our relationships, and our mental health... without us even realizing its origin. Guest Linda Meredith, is a highly respected leader in trauma recovery, renowned for her innovative approaches to Complex PTSD (CPTSD) healing. As an accredited Pioneer Training Provider and Clinical Complex Trauma Professional, Linda coaches and educates individuals globally. She is the founder of Healing from Complex PTSD and holds several significant firsts in the field, including being Australia's first Certified Trauma Recovery Coach and Supervisor, the world's first Advanced NPE Trauma Recovery Coach, and the CEO of the International Complex Trauma Association. Speaking with host Gabby Sanderson, Linda unpacks the difference between PTSD and Complex PTSD, also breaking down how childhood developmental trauma can manifest in our lives. Linda highlights the importance of protecting ourselves from people we don't fully know or trust, explaining why setting boundaries around vulnerability is crucial whilst on your complex trauma recovery journey. Healing from trauma isn't about fixing what's broken, it's about reclaiming the lost parts of ourselves. Linda believes Complex PTSD recovery is possible and happens one step at a time. The complex trauma expert also shares a couple of simple techniques to calm the nervous system after being triggered, and opens up about her own journey with CPTSD. At 38, suppressed childhood trauma surfaced, leaving her bedridden and unable to walk, talk, bathe, or feed herself—requiring full-time care. With incredible determination, Linda began rebuilding her abilities, ultimately transforming her own recovery into a mission to help others never have to face the long recovery she did. This epiosde is sponsored by Better Help. What does a thriving life look like after surviving a cult? Katherine Spearing has some ideas about that, and some real life experience to back those ideas up. She survived the cult of the The Christian Patriarchy Movement,  also known as the Stay-At- Home-Daughter Movement. And yeah: That's as terrible as it sounds. The most prominent characteristic of this particular cult is that it requires adult daughters to stay home until they marry, serving their father in preparation for serving their husband. Raised in this environment meant that Katherine wasn't  allowed to go to college, but she didn't let that stop her: She did it in secret: starting her first class at 25 years old. And flash forward to today: She's an author, a podcaster, an advocate and a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach.  SHOW NOTES: Katherine Spearing MA, CTRC is the founder of Tears of Eden, a nonprofit supporting survivors of spiritual abuse, and the host of Tears' affiliate podcast Uncertain. She also hosts the podcast Trauma & Pop Culture and is a Certified Trauma Recovery Practitioner working primarily with clients who have survived cults, high-control environments, spiritual abuse, and sexual abuse. She also provides specialized trauma informed career coaching, as folks with trauma often need extra support for interviewing and networking.  Katherine is the author of a historical romantic comedy, Hartfords, a novel that challenges gender roles in a patriarchal society that will appeal to fans of Jane Austen. Candice continues her conversation with former insider, Nikki G, who shares more about the strategic aims of this belief system and how dominion theology has long been carving out a space in US politics. They touch a bit more on the Heritage Foundation's presidential playbook (Project 2025), specifically its focus on unitary executive theory; in other words, the doing-away with checks and balances. Then Nikki courageous shares about the years she spent on the front lines of the pro-life movement. She takes us behind the scenes of ‘TheCall' anti-abortion marches - the red ‘LIFE' tape she wore, the 12-hour prayer and fasting sessions she attended, and how she believed she was “on the right side of history.” Nikki reveals how her views have since changed, sharing her more nuanced understanding of the right to choose as well as retroactive realizations she's had as a Black cult survivor. Inspired by both personal experiences and professional expertise, Nikki offers TDP listeners some timely advice on how to navigate relationships with friends and loved ones who are under the influence of this radical ideology. American democracy is hanging on by a thread. But how did we get here? Today's episode offers an insider's peek into Christian nationalism. You may remember Nikki G from Ep.77; she was on the pod back in January, sharing about her work as a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach who specializes in spiritual and religious abuse. In early March, Candice invited her to sit down again for this two-part conversation. Nikki is a former devotee in the evangelical movement whose passion at the time was "governmental intercession." In Part 1 of this dialogue, she peels back the curtain on the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) Movement and how its decades-long perversion of Christianity has infiltrated US politics. Nikki lays out the bones of the movement's history and gives us a feel for what it's like inside NAR's apostolic hubs, all working in coordination toward the same end-game. She walks us through Lance Wallnau's 7 Mountain Mandate, a strategic plan to impose religious order on the masses and shamelessly colonize every aspect of American culture. Nikki tells us what it was like, watching evangelical leaders embrace Trump prior to the first election; then she and Candice discuss why he's actually the ideal point man for the movement. This episode lays a critical foundation for the Heritage Foundation's far-right playbook (Project 2025) and where this conversation will be headed next week, in Part 2.Nikki G. is a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach  who helps survivors recover and thrive after Religious Trauma & Cult involvement. January is Spiritual Abuse Awareness Month, and this week Candice welcomes a very special guest. Nikki G is a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, co-host of the Surviving The Black Church podcast, and a vocal advocate for spiritual and religious abuse survivors. Nikki shares briefly about her personal history growing up in a narcissistic family system, time spent in five different cults, and her personal path of healing. She speaks about the subtle yet sometimes critical difference between spiritual and religious trauma, then offers guidance around how best to seek support and healing. Nikki generously walks us through a brief history of The Black Church, speaking to how intergenerational trauma must be a consideration when supporting Black folks who are recovering from spiritual and religious abuse. The term ‘church hurt' is discussed; specifically how in Black Communities, when applied too broadly, it leads to the glorification of suffering and implicitly encourages abuse survivors to stay-put and endure. Candice shares suffer-in-silence parallels in the wellness world, and the two discuss how even though the gaslighting shows up differently, it ultimately results in a similar outcome - spiritual bypassing and a disconnection from self. Nikki speaks to the many invisible wounds folks grapple with upon exiting a high-demand religion or spiritual community and then describes what post-cult ‘rehab' might look like. She shares how coming home to her body has been so pivotal in her healing process; and Candice asks for Nikki's input on the unique challenge of healing from trauma that occurs within the space of an embodiment practice. The episode wraps with a teaser into another upcoming convo with Nikki that will be recorded later this month, focusing on how religious ideologies have been systematically shaping American politics for decades. What do bankruptcy, an eviction or foreclosure, financial abuse from a partner, large amounts of debt, large losses in the stock market, and food insecurity all have in common? They are all forms of financial trauma you may have experienced in your past or present. Financial trauma is the mental, emotional, relational or physical stympoms triggered by significant financial stressors and it's something that you may have experienced in the past, and are still carrying around with you today.  In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast I'm sitting down with Ali Kates, a  Certified Trauma Recovery Coach & Somatic Experience Practitioner (In-Training). Ali believes that trauma & emotional pain is not just about what happened to you, but how it left your nervous system after said event. She preaches that your trauma cannot be "out talked" or "out thought", becuase it lives in the BODY. Becuase of that Ali gives her clients the tools and teachings they need to move their trauma out of their body for good. Ali and I break down what trauma is, the different types of trauma, what happens when trauma goes unprocessed in your body (helllooo shame), the different types of trauma responses and how they manifest within your money management style, and the first step you can take to moving stored trauma out of your body. Pauls Bio: Before becoming a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, Paul Christino had a long stint in the entertainment industry getting his first break with a recurring role on the hit TV show E.R. in the late nineties.  However, like many trauma survivors, his purpose in life was not clear to him as a young man.  All of his time, energy and emotional resources were put towards just surviving.  After years of sifting through his own experiences Paul began to understand that in order for him to truly heal, he must reach out to others like him and walk shoulder to shoulder with them as they move through their healing journey.  Paul continued his studies and has now opened his Trauma Recovery Coaching practice holding sessions in his Manhattan office and online.
