The Faces of Rejection (Pt.1) – Reframing Rejection | Paul Nyamuda

Go Church Sa

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 16, 2023 46:16

Research has shown that rejection is the root cause of a lot of depression, anxiety and many other mental health challenges. Prolonged rejection and social isolation often results in low self-esteem which is a precursor to drug addiction, violence and other social ills. When we examine the prevalence and the consequences of rejection like this, it becomes very clear that the Church needs to give people tools to deal with it. Firstly, we must not be the perpetrators and secondly we need to know how to process it when it comes. Some people have become mature in how they deal with rejection whilst others have very low emotional intelligence in how they process it. It's important to note that we all have different levels of need for inclusion. Instruments like FIRO-B actually measure such levels and help us to be gracious towards those that have this need more deeply ingrained in their personality than we do. I am a big includer but have a very low need for inclusion. The result is that I tend to process rejection and exclusion positively whilst someone else can be stung by similar events. As we do this study we will examine various faces of rejection, such as betrayal, abandonment, neglect, disapproval, exclusion and disregard in everyday life. It's important for us to also examine the traits that develop in many people as a result of rejection experiences. Some develop a mental stronghold that causes them to reject themselves before they can be rejected. This person becomes socially isolated and detached. Others struggle with a persecutory super ego (intense feelings of guilt, shame, and self-blame for trivial things), where they are self-critical and obsessed with the misbelief that the whole world is against them. If this persists, one can become oppressed by a lying spirit of rejection. We will discuss this in the course of this series. Some become vulnerable narcissists who are fixated and obsessed with the number of imaginary enemies they have. The point is that the way we process rejection affects our levels of Christlikeness and the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. This series seeks to help believers develop a robust theology of rejection, and life skills to process it when it occurs.

https://soultrained.com/ backup phone for DDS: 646-270-6113 I help leaders get up out of the weeds of their comfort zones and into places they didn't know they needed to go. I bring my multi-sector global experience, decades of training in human potential, and enduring dedication to creating leaders who are worth following to every single thing I do. I believe that, at its core, executive coaching and leadership growth is about delivering shifts in what you do and how you do it. And I believe that shift happens most sustainably and radically through a process of hard human kindness. A trusted coach of mine once said to me, "Nothing great ever came from comfort zones." This really hit home. I understand coaching to be a process and commitment to letting go of unuseful behaviors and patterns and to becoming an exceptional leader. You should know that I will be as dedicated as you are [if not more] to your pursuit of becoming extraordinary. These philosophies underpin my approach and give you an idea of what you'll be getting yourself into when you decide to work with me. I have notched up over 25 years of working in small, medium, and large corporations. I literally grew up in the hospitality industry [my parents owned a pub and restaurant in the UK] and I started my career as a college professor teaching hotel and business management. I've since held a range of senior, executive, and C-Suite level roles across a host of sectors and companies including renowned retailer Marks & Spencer Plc, travel and tourism company Eurostar International, Crossrail Ltd - the company charged with building a new railway through the center of London, music giant Sony Music Entertainment, and Essence Global - part of the world's largest advertising company, WPP. I'm a member of the Advisory Board of WE Global Studios, a full-stack Innovation Studio and digital DIY Platform that powers the success of women entrepreneurs around the world. I serve as adjunct faculty at California Institute of Integral Studies where I teach counseling psychology to graduate students. I also run a private psychotherapy practice, called SoulFull Therapy, in the state of Connecticut My career has provided the opportunity for me to work across all continents and to develop the awareness, empathy, and skills to work successfully with people from all diverse walks of life in culturally humble ways. I'm certified as an Executive Coach by both the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring, I'm credentialed with the International Coach Federation, and am a coach-supervisor through the Coaching Supervision Academy. I've been working in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming [NLP] since 2001 - I'm a double-certified INLPTA Master Practitioner and Trainer of NLP, and a Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapist under the NLPtCA. I'm also licensed to administer MBTI [Step I and Step II] and FIRO-B psychometric tools. Over the years I have had the opportunity to train with many luminaries in the transpersonal field including Louise Hay, Marianne Williamson, Dr. Patricia Crane, Deepak Chopra, and Dr. Brant Cortright. In 2007 I became a Reiki Master and Teacher under the guidance of Christina Moore, in 2020 I completed an internship in The Narrative Enneagram, and in 2022 I qualified as a sound healer using crystal bowls. I'm a native Brit and have lived in the US with my husband, David, and our two cats, Harper and Hemingway, since April 2014. When not working you can usually find me geeking out over some psychological concept or losing myself in repeats of The Voice, X-Factor, and American Idol on YouTube.

help leaders get up out of the weeds of their comfort zones and into places they didn't know they needed to go. I serve as the Board President at Pacific Center for Human Growth, the USA's second oldest LGBTQIA2S+ non-profit community mental health clinics, and I am adjunct faculty at California Institute of Integral Studies where I teach counseling psychology to graduate students. Patricia Crane, Deepak Chopra, and Brant Cortright. In 2007 I became a Reiki Master and Teacher under the guidance of Christina Moore. I am currently completing an internship in The Narrative Enneagram. I'm a native Brit and have lived in the US with my husband, David, and our two cats, Harper and Hemingway, since April 2014. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!” Right? NO!  NO! NO! JJ challenges this old adage and shows you how sometimes, especially if you are an entrepreneur, you will have more fun, help more people, and make more money by treating them the way THEY want to be treated!  JJ gives you 2 quick and easy questions, based on the DISC behavior assessment, to help you instantly pinpoint the personality type of the person in front of you, so you can tailor your message to their needs.  Like any other habit, you CAN cultivate this behavior in your life.  It will open up so many doors for you!  JJ is certified in several personality assessments, including MBTI and FIRO-B.  Her favorite for salespeople, moms, or anyone that needs to influence others is the DISC inventory.  It is behavior based, and our PowerDISC will not only tell how others see you, but it will show you the masks you wear – some of which could be hindering your goals!  Learn how you can get your own DISC report by reaching out to JJ at JJConway.org.  All proceeds benefit the Global Youth Initiative of Northwest Louisiana.

Difficult Happens; Effective Communication for Bosses

What motivates you? I was asked this question recently and as someone who works in a world with shades of grey my first thought was “in what context”. Whether you are a leader, an employee, a boss or a solopreneur understanding what motivates you to behave in a certain way can be a powerful discovery. The FIRO B, or the Fundamental Interpersonal relations orientation behavior explores your interpersonal needs, in particular, in three areas; Inclusion, Affection and Control. At its core, this assessment shows us how we express these needs, and how much we want them.  This is part of a series I am doing on Assessments. Isn’t it time we took a deeper look at the benefits and limitations of the myriad of assessments? Sure is, in episode 37, we took a look at the KOLBE, in Episode 39 it was the DISC turn, in episode 40 we shone the light on a little known assessment, the Enneagram, and episode 41 brought us to two very different assessments, the Clifton Strengths & the Fascinate, another more obscure assessment. When we explore the needs of the individuals around us, that we work with, live with and ourselves it leads to greater understanding, personal growth, and stronger deeper interpersonal connections.  What you’ll hear in this podcast: What is a triggered reaction Why is winter “trigger-season” Why women working in male-dominated fields experience more stress What is the FIRO B The difference between a desired and expressed need in relation to your three inclusion zones What societal norms have to do with it How the FIRO B can help you manage your relationships How relationship management impacts leadership What your brain doesn’t like A simple story about a boss and an administrative assistant that will change your perspective   Free Resources: Episode 37 – The Kolbe with Andrea Mackenzie Episode 39 – The DISC Episode 40 – The Enneagram Episode 41 – Clifton Strengths & Fascinate Episode 29 – Why your subconscious is the REAL boss   How to Reach Guest Coryne Forest STEMinista revolution https://coryneforest.com/ By Email    Work with Lara Free Breakthrough Assessment Got a Question? The differences between The Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation Behavior Report (The Firo-B) and The Fundamental Interpersonal Orientations Business Report (The Firo Business) lies in the type of need each personality test measures. As stated in the Career Assessment Site Blog entitled, “The Firo Assessments: Honing in on Your Interpersonal Wants and Needs,” the Firo-B measures your need for Inclusion, Control, and Affection. On the other hand, the Firo Business measures three organizational oriented needs Connection, Influence, and Involvement. As with the Firo-B, the Firo Business Report measures the difference between an Expressed Need and a Wanted Need. For example, some of us measure higher in the category of Expressed Connection and Expressed Involvement, while others measure higher in Wanted Inclusion and Wanted Connection. According to the resource, “Introduction to the Firo Business Instrument,” authored by Judith Waterman and Jenny Rogers, a high score in Expressed Connection indicates that you take action to fulfill your need for closeness and warmth with others. Waterman and Rodgers state that a high Wanted Connection score signifies that you prefer others to take more action in fulfilling your needs.
