Grounding in Shared Beliefs•Common Purpose: Establish a shared belief in the importance of the marriage and family, utilizing a spiritual or religious framework as a guiding principle for conflict resolution.•Prayer and Humility: Starting discussions with prayer and a humble approach can help set a positive tone and prepare both partners to engage constructively.2. Misconceptions About Forgivenes Start Again Essential Church February 2, 2025 SUMMARY 1. **Forgiveness vs. Reconciliation**: - Forgiveness is a personal act that does not require the other party to acknowledge their wrongdoing. It is a gift that one gives, regardless of whether the other person accepts it. - Reconciliation, on the other hand, requires acknowledgment of the hurt caused and a mutual desire to restore the relationship. 2. **The Process of Forgiveness**: - Forgiveness is described as a process rather than a one-time event. It involves ongoing emotional work and may take time to fully achieve. - An analogy is made comparing forgiveness to buying a gift on credit, where the emotional payments continue until the debt is fully resolved. 3. **Trust and Discipline**: - Trust must be rebuilt over time after it has been broken. Forgiveness does not automatically restore trust. - Discipline is necessary even in the context of forgiveness. For example, a parent may forgive a child but still impose consequences for their actions. 4. **The Role of Grace**: - Recognizing one's own need for grace is essential in the process of forgiving others. The speaker emphasizes the importance of reflecting on how much one has been forgiven in order to extend that forgiveness to others. 5. **Avoiding Bitterness**: - Holding onto unforgiveness can lead to bitterness and anger, which can negatively impact one's life. The speaker encourages moving on and not allowing past hurts to dictate future relationships. 6. **Personal Reflection**: - The speaker shares personal experiences of forgiveness, illustrating how past hurts can be acknowledged without allowing them to dominate one's life narrative. ### Conclusion The message emphasizes the importance of forgiveness as a means to personal freedom and emotional health, encouraging individuals to engage in the process of forgiving while understanding the complexities involved. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. **Understanding Forgiveness**: - How do you differentiate between forgiveness and reconciliation in your personal experiences? - Can you share a time when you forgave someone but chose not to reconcile? What factors influenced your decision? 2. **The Process of Forgiveness**: - The Project describes forgiveness as a process rather than a one-time event. How do you interpret this idea in your own life? - What strategies or practices have you found helpful in navigating the ongoing process of forgiveness? 3. **Trust and Discipline**: - In what ways do you think trust can be rebuilt after it has been broken? What role does forgiveness play in this process? - How can discipline coexist with forgiveness in relationships, especially in parent-child dynamics? 4. **Personal Reflection**: - Reflecting on your own need for grace, how does this perspective influence your ability to forgive others? - Can you think of a situation where recognizing your own flaws helped you to forgive someone else? 5. **Avoiding Bitterness**: - What are some practical steps you can take to avoid bitterness when dealing with past hurts? - How do you think holding onto unforgiveness affects your mental and emotional well-being? 6. **The Role of Grace**: - How does the concept of grace shape your understanding of forgiveness? Can you share an example where grace played a significant role in your ability to forgive? - In what ways can reflecting on the grace you have received from others help you extend that grace to those who have hurt you? These questions can facilitate meaningful discussions about the complexities of forgiveness and its impact on personal relationships.

The Path to Forgiveness: Freeing Yourself from Resentment Holding onto resentment is like carrying a heavy weight that slows you down and prevents you from moving forward in life. Resentment can stem from feeling wronged, betrayed, or hurt by someone else's actions. While it's a natural human response, allowing resentment to fester can be toxic, impacting your mental and physical well-being. The path to forgiveness is not always easy, but it's a journey worth taking to free yourself from the burden of resentment. Understanding Resentment Resentment is a complex emotion that often arises from a sense of injustice or mistreatment. It can manifest as anger, bitterness, or a desire for revenge. When we hold onto resentment, we relive the hurt and pain over and over again, preventing us from healing and moving on. Resentment can lead to stress, anxiety, depression, and even physical health problems if left unchecked. The Benefits of Forgiveness Forgiveness is not about condoning or excusing the actions of others; it's about releasing the negative emotions that are weighing you down. When you forgive, you free yourself from the chains of resentment and open the door to inner peace and emotional well-being. Forgiveness has been shown to have numerous benefits, including: 1. Improved mental health: Forgiveness can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, leading to a more positive outlook on life. 2. Better physical health: Holding onto resentment can contribute to high blood pressure, heart disease, and other health issues. Forgiveness can help alleviate these physical symptoms. 3. Stronger relationships: Forgiveness can help repair damaged relationships and foster a deeper sense of understanding and compassion. 4. Personal growth: The act of forgiveness requires self-reflection and a willingness to let go of negative emotions, which can lead to personal growth and self-awareness. The Path to Forgiveness Forgiveness is a journey, and it may take time and effort to reach a place of true forgiveness. Here are some steps you can take to embark on this path: 1. Acknowledge your feelings: Recognize and validate your emotions, whether it's anger, hurt, or sadness. Suppressing these feelings will only prolong the resentment. 2. Practice empathy: Try to understand the other person's perspective, even if you don't agree with their actions. This can help you gain insight and move towards forgiveness. 3. Let go of expectations: Release the idea that the other person will apologize or make amends. Forgiveness is a personal choice, and it's not dependent on the actions of others. 4. Focus on self-care: Engage in activities that promote your well-being, such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. Taking care of yourself can help you cultivate a more positive mindset. 5. Seek support: If you're struggling with forgiveness, consider seeking the guidance of a therapist, counselor, or trusted friend who can provide a listening ear and valuable insights. Forgiveness is a powerful act of self-love and personal growth. By letting go of resentment, you create space for joy, peace, and fulfillment in your life. Embrace the path to forgiveness, and experience the freedom that comes with releasing the burdens of the past.
Have you ever struggled with the weight of unforgiveness, feeling trapped by past hurts or wondering if it's possible to truly let go? In this episode, Kenny Embry and Jacob Hudgins explore the essence of forgiveness from both a personal and spiritual perspective. They delve into how this act can not only free us from the chains of bitterness but also align us closer to the divine model of love and reconciliation exemplified by Jesus. Join us to uncover how forgiveness can transform our lives, our relationships, and our very understanding of faith.7 Key Takeaways:Forgiveness as Release: Forgiveness involves releasing the debt of an offense, mirroring God's forgiveness towards us.Personal vs. Religious Context: While personal forgiveness might seem straightforward, its depth matches the religious context, emphasizing the release from consequences rather than merely forgetting.Forgiveness Strengthens: Contrary to making one appear weak, forgiveness is a source of strength, following the model set by Jesus. The Cost of Forgiveness: True forgiveness often comes at a personal cost, reflecting the sacrifices Jesus made, challenging us to forgive even when it's difficult. The Process of Forgiveness: Forgiveness can be a long process, not an immediate action, involving growth, healing, and a change in perspective.Forgiveness and Relationships: While we are called to forgive, this doesn't always mean resuming the same relationship dynamics, especially if they are harmful.Forgiveness as a Reflection of God: Forgiveness teaches us about God's desire for relationship, highlighting His grace and our call to extend that grace to others.10 Quotes:"Forgiveness is where the debt is released and we're no longer on the hook for what we've done." - Jacob Hudgins"Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." - Referencing Jesus in the Lord's Prayer"Forgiveness is a worthwhile priority, even if it's personally taxing." - Jacob Hudgins"There is strength in seeming weakness." - Jacob Hudgins on Jesus' teachings"You can't be greedy if your hands are always open. You can't be bitter if you're always forgiving." - Jacob Hudgins"Why can't you be defrauded? Why can't you get the wrong end of the stick?" - Jacob Hudgins on Paul's teachings"Forgiveness can be a process and a process of growth and healing." - Jacob Hudgins"You can't just store up every wrong that's ever gone wrong in your life." - Jacob Hudgins on the effects of unforgiveness"If we want to be Christians, we can't not forgive." - Jacob Hudgins"Jesus' life resonates because there is far more strength in restraint, care, and compassion." - Jacob HudginsThree Applications:Self-Reflection:Take time to reflect on instances where you've held onto grudges. Consider how letting go of these might benefit your mental health and spiritual growth.Community Building:In church or community settings, foster an environment where forgiveness is taught not just as a principle but as a lived experience. Encourage openness about struggles with forgiveness to normalize this challenging but necessary process.Daily Practice:Implement a daily practice of forgiveness in personal interactions. This could mean resolving to not carry over arguments or misunderstandings from one day to the next, or consciously choosing to understand rather than judge others' actions.Support the show
Episode Summary: In this episode, we explore the concept of forgiveness, particularly in the context of betrayal, and how it can be a powerful tool for personal freedom and healing. Dr. Debi dives into the creation and success of the 21-Day Forgiveness Journey, an initiative by The PBT Institute, tied to National Forgiveness Day on September 1st. This journey encourages participants to reflect, release, and rebuild after experiences of betrayal or hurt. Dr. Debi shares insights, stories, and tools that have helped many people move from anger and resentment to freedom and peace. Key Points: The Meaning of Forgiveness: Forgiveness is often misunderstood. It's not about excusing the other person's actions or reconciling with them. It's about releasing the power that the pain has over you. Forgiveness is for your own healing, not for the person who wronged you. 21-Day Forgiveness Journey: This journey was designed as an experiment to see if people could go from anger and bitterness to forgiveness and freedom in just 21 days, leveraging intentional practice and group support. Participants followed a structured process, featuring powerful stories of forgiveness (e.g., Holocaust survivors, Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama), daily affirmations, quotes, and experiential activities. Three Key Steps in Forgiveness: Review: Are you willing to revisit the experience of betrayal or hurt? Can you see it from a different perspective? Release: Are you ready to let go of the emotional burden that this experience has caused you? The metaphor of carrying a 500-pound boulder illustrates the weight of holding onto pain. Rebuild: Once you've forgiven, how can you rebuild yourself or your relationship with the person who hurt you? This is about creating a new version of yourself or renegotiating boundaries. Creating Your Own Forgiveness Tracker: The 21-Day Forgiveness Journey used a simple tracker with three columns: Review, Release, and Rebuild. Participants focused on one particular experience or betrayal and documented their progress, choosing the day they were ready to review the experience, release it, and rebuild. The Physical and Emotional Impact of Holding Onto Pain: Holding onto anger and bitterness can impact your mental, emotional, and physical health. Forgiveness can reduce the toll on your immune system, lower your stress, and improve your overall well-being. Powerful Stories of Forgiveness: Throughout the journey, participants were inspired by stories of people who had forgiven after horrific events, such as the loss of family during the Holocaust or genocides in Rwanda. These stories helped participants see that if others could forgive after such intense pain, they too could release their own burdens. Tips for Your Own Forgiveness Journey: Choose one specific incident to focus on—start with something smaller to build momentum. Engage with stories, quotes, books, and activities that help you reflect on the nature of forgiveness. Track your progress and allow yourself to move at your own pace. There is no rush, and each step forward is a victory. The Distinction Between Forgiveness and Reconciliation: Forgiveness is about freeing yourself from the pain, while reconciliation involves rebuilding a relationship, which requires the other person's participation and responsibility. It's important to understand that you can forgive without reconciling if there is no remorse or apology from the other party. The Power of Moving Forward: Forgiveness opens up space for new possibilities in your life, whether it's improved health, new opportunities, or personal growth. Once you release the burden of past pain, you make room for healing and transformation. Resources Mentioned: Stories of Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, and Holocaust survivors as examples of profound forgiveness. Books and resources recommended throughout the journey on the topic of forgiveness. Final Thoughts: The 21-Day Forgiveness Journey is a transformative process that invites you to face, feel, and heal from past betrayals. Forgiveness isn't easy, but it's a gift you give yourself to live a life unburdened by pain and resentment. The host encourages listeners to embark on their own forgiveness journey, whether through a structured tracker or their own personal process, to find freedom and peace. Resources: Register here for our UNLIMITED Moving Beyond People Pleasing Drop-In Group Coaching + Video Curriculum Today, Julie & Leslie are exploring how some of your best qualities and highest Christian virtues can make you a target for toxic individuals. Have you ever wondered why you seem to attract destructive people despite your kind heart and good intentions? This episode will help you understand and transform how you navigate relationships, allowing you to embrace your strengths while safeguarding your heart. People Pleasing: People pleasers are often generous and eager to make others happy, which can make them susceptible to manipulation. Without the ability to say no, people pleasers may find themselves overextended and exploited. Learn to buy time before committing and practice saying no without guilt. Loyalty: Loyalty is a noble trait, reflecting a commitment to relationships. However, blind loyalty can lead to staying in harmful relationships with habitual liars or abusers. Pair loyalty with discernment and wisdom to know when to break away from toxic situations. Forgiveness: Forgiveness is a core Christian virtue, emphasizing grace and mercy. However, endless forgiveness without consequences can enable continued abuse or neglect. Healthy forgiveness includes justice and setting boundaries, ensuring there are consequences for harmful actions. Forbearance: Forbearance promotes patience and tolerance, important in any relationship. Being passive and ignoring habitual sin or evil can be dangerous. Be intentional about forbearance and confront issues when necessary, following Ephesians 5:11 to expose deeds of darkness. Kindness: Kindness reflects God's love and compassion. Niceness without boundaries can lead to being used and misused. Be kind but firm, setting limits on unacceptable behavior without compromising your values. Selflessness: Selflessness mirrors Christ's sacrifice and service. Being overly selfless can lead to losing your identity and becoming an object in the relationship. Steward your life wisely, balancing self-care with serving others, and maintaining your individuality. Trust: Trust is fundamental to any healthy relationship. Naive trust can lead to betrayal and harm. Trust with discernment, recognizing when someone is not trustworthy and acting accordingly. As we discuss these virtues, remember that we are currently enrolling for Leslie's Moving Beyond People Pleasing program. This course is designed to help you apply these principles in your life. Visit leslievernick.com/peoplepleasingcourse to learn more and register. Final Thoughts: Embrace your Christian virtues but pair them with wisdom and discernment to protect yourself from toxic individuals. Taking care of yourself is not selfish, it's stewardship. Prioritize your well-being to better serve others and fulfill your God-given potential. Remember to consider the entire counsel of God, not just isolated verses, to guide your life and relationships. Thank you for joining us today. We hope this conversation helps you navigate your relationships more wisely and embrace your strengths while safeguarding your heart. Until next time, take care and stay true to your values.

9 Reasons Why Forgiving is Important Ep. 12 Our website Visit our sponsors of this episode The Liberating Power of Forgiveness Forgiveness is a transformative act that liberates the heart and soul from the burden of resentment and anger. While it may seem difficult at times, choosing to forgive is crucial for our own well-being and growth. In this blog, we'll explore the profound reasons why forgiveness is essential and how it can lead us to experience inner peace, healing, and personal growth. 1. Emotional Healing and Inner Peace One of the primary reasons forgiveness is important is its ability to promote emotional healing and inner peace. Holding onto grudges and past hurts weighs heavily on our hearts and minds, causing prolonged suffering. When we forgive, we release ourselves from the emotional pain and find a sense of tranquility within. 2. Breaking the Cycle of Negativity Choosing to forgive breaks the cycle of negativity that can perpetuate in our lives. By letting go of resentments, we stop dwelling on negative thoughts and emotions, allowing room for positivity and joy to thrive. 3. Enhancing Relationships Forgiveness plays a pivotal role in strengthening our relationships with others. When we forgive, we foster empathy and understanding, which paves the way for healthier and more authentic connections with those around us. 4. Empowerment and Self-Love Forgiving is an act of self-empowerment and self-love. It shows that we value our own well-being and mental peace enough to release the grip of hurtful experiences. Forgiving ourselves for past mistakes is equally vital, as it enables personal growth and self-acceptance. 5. Resilience in Adversity Through forgiveness, we cultivate resilience in the face of adversity. It allows us to bounce back from challenging situations with grace and strength, rather than being consumed by bitterness or anger. 6. Liberation from the Past The past can sometimes haunt us, hindering our progress and growth. Forgiveness liberates us from the shackles of the past, enabling us to embrace the present and look forward to the future with hope and optimism. 7. Empathy and Compassion Forgiveness fosters empathy and compassion. It reminds us that everyone makes mistakes and that we, too, seek understanding and empathy when we err. 8. Healing from Trauma Forgiveness can be a powerful tool in the healing process, especially for individuals who have experienced trauma. While it may not erase the pain, forgiveness allows survivors to reclaim their power and find a pathway to healing and recovery. 9. Fostering a Positive Environment When forgiveness becomes a part of our lives, it creates a ripple effect, fostering a more forgiving and compassionate community. Such an environment promotes support and unity among individuals, fostering a sense of belonging and support. Choosing to forgive is an act of courage and strength that brings about profound positive changes in our lives. It allows us to release the weight of past hurts and embrace emotional healing, inner peace, and personal growth. By fostering empathy, compassion, and resilience, forgiveness enriches our relationships and the world around us. Let us remember that forgiveness is not about condoning harmful actions but rather about liberating ourselves from the grip of negativity and embracing a life filled with love, healing, and understanding.

In her message at TGC's 2022 Women's Conference, Blair Linne teaches on the importance of understanding the role of God as our Heavenly Father, especially in the context of healing from fatherlessness or difficult relationships with earthly fathers.Linne highlights these key points:The Blessing of Adoption: God's love and choice to adopt us is not based on our merit but on his grace and love. This adoption into the family of God allows us to have a rich relationship with God as our Heavenly Father. The Role of Forgiveness: Forgiveness is essential, especially in dealing with strained relationships with earthly fathers. Linne encourages her audience to pray for their parents if they should find themselves spiritually lost or emotionally broken, and to forgive with the understanding that forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean re-establishing unhealthy relationships.Writing Your Story and Praying for Parents: Linne suggests the therapeutic exercise of writing your story, including any emotions and thoughts related to your earthly father. She recommends the practice of writing letters to your earthly father or to God and advises praying for your parents, especially if they are still alive.Prioritizing Your Redeemed Family (The Church): Linne emphasizes the importance of prioritizing your church family, as they are part of your redeemed family and are essential in the healing journey. She encourages seeking support and guidance within the church community. Our relationship with God as our Heavenly Father can heal and restore the wounds caused by the absence or difficulties with earthly fathers. Knowing who we are in Christ and God's adoption of us demonstrates his deep love and commitment.Read more on this topic from Blair Linne in her book, Finding My Father: How the Gospel Heals the Pain of Fatherlessness.

Gratitude + Abundance: Bob Wheeler on Transforming Your Financial Mindset Do you want to break free from the cycle of emotional spending? Bob Wheeler has the solution to help you discover and manage your financial triggers so that you can achieve financial freedom and peace of mind. "If we can get to that root of what am I trying to prove, we can understand our financial sabotage." - Bob Wheeler In this episode, you'll learn how to: Unearth hidden money beliefs and narratives shaping your financial life. Transform your financial story by embracing new, empowering beliefs. Develop a mindset of abundance and gratitude, rather than just amassing wealth. Tackle emotions and lean on support systems to break free from financial struggles. Discover yourself and seize control of your personal finances for a brighter future. Bob Wheeler is a finance guru with a twist. Bob is dedicated to helping individuals break free from their emotional spending habits and rewrite their money story. With a background in psychology and a successful career as a CPA, Bob brings a refreshing approach to personal finance. He's a firm believer in open conversations, introspection, and gratitude as the keys to achieving abundance in life. If you're tired of feeling trapped in a cycle of emotional spending and want to gain control over your finances, Bob's expertise will guide you on the path to financial freedom and well-being. The resources mentioned in this episode are: Journaling: Bob recommends starting with journaling to excavate your money story. Write down what you remember hearing about money from family, religion, culture, and society. Look for absolutes or rules you have made about money that may not be serving you. Set Ground Rules: When engaging in a conversation about money with a partner or family member, Bob suggests setting ground rules upfront. Agree to take a break if emotions get too charged and avoid blaming or using absolutes. Forgiveness: Forgiveness is an important part of the process. Acknowledge the grief and anger you may feel about past money decisions, and work towards forgiveness for yourself and others. Gratitude: Practice gratitude for what you do have, even if it's not material wealth. Focus on abundance as a mindset, rather than a specific accumulation of wealth. Bob's Course: Bob offers a course on his website that focuses on creating a healthy relationship with money. Check it out: https://themoneynerve.com/ The key moments in this episode are: 00:00:00 - Introduction,00:01:52 - Having Conversations Around Money,00:05:16 - Understanding Your Money Story,00:09:13 - Changing Your Money Story,00:12:54 - The Importance of Laughter and Fun in Money,00:13:01 - Defining Abundance,00:14:44 - Gratitude Shift,00:18:29 - Breaking the Cycle of Scarcity,00:22:43 - Money and Identity,00:24:16 - Seeking Support,00:26:27 - The Power of Reflection,00:27:59 - Coping with Pressure,00:30:09 - The Money Nerve,00:33:31 - Test Your Nerve,00:35:36 - Going Through the Fire, "Look at the cost benefit of my current story and do I want something different?" - Bob Wheeler Understanding Your Money Story Money stories consist of unconscious beliefs and rules shaped during our childhood, influenced by external voices like family, religion, and culture. These stories are deeply ingrained, affecting our decisions and perspectives concerning our relationship with money. Learning to understand your money story allows you to identify any potentially harmful beliefs that could be holding you back financially. By acknowledging the factors that shaped these beliefs, you can start to challenge and change them, thereby improving your financial situation. Bob Wheeler explains that people should excavate their unconscious money beliefs through methods like journaling or talking out loud. The process can be uncomfortable and emotional, uncovering strong feelings like grief and anger. However, Wheeler encourages embracing these emotions and being gentle with oneself while exploring their money story. This understanding can be an essential step toward changing one's financial relationship and setting a trajectory for a healthier financial future. Changing Your Money Story Once you've identified your current money story, it's time to decide whether a new narrative would be more beneficial. It's essential to weigh the costs and benefits of your current belief system and how it affects your financial decisions. If your beliefs are preventing you from achieving your goals or realizing your full potential, change may be necessary. In the podcast, Bob Wheeler advises focusing on new beliefs and values that align with your vision for your life. He highlights the importance of embracing forgiveness and gratitude, both in acknowledging any setbacks in your financial journey and appreciating the progress you've made so far. By actively working to change your money story, you can create a more empowered financial mindset. "We have to become aware of our unconscious story, every story has a cost." - Bob Wheeler The Money Nerve The Money Nerve refers to the emotional reactions people have to financial matters. Just like relationships with loved ones, emotional ties to money can be intense and deeply ingrained. Learning how to navigate these emotions and acknowledging their impact on financial decisions is crucial for achieving financial stability and growth. Bob Wheeler discusses his book, The Money Nerve, during the podcast episode. He highlights the importance of exploring one's financial story to understand any fears and emotions connected to it. The book guides readers through a self-discovery journey, encouraging them to be more intentional with their money and focus on emotional growth alongside financial growth. "Gratitude is more about a mindset versus actually accumulating dollars or properties." - Bob Wheeler Defining Abundance Abundance isn't just about accumulating wealth; it also includes nurturing gratitude for what you already have. Recognizing the smaller joys in life, like spending time with loved ones or being able to travel, contributes to a mindset of abundance, which positively impacts your relationship with money. Adopting a balanced perspective on financial success and personal satisfaction is important for maintaining a healthy attitude toward wealth. During the podcast, Bob Wheeler shares his experience in Africa, observing people who were content despite their lack of material wealth. This revelation inspired him to practice gratitude and appreciate his abundance in both tangible and intangible ways. By embracing this mindset shift, listeners can foster an attitude that focuses on cherishing what they have while still striving for growth. "The relationship with money, like any good relationship, you have to keep working at it." - Bob Wheeler Seeking Support Dealing with financial emotions and changing your money story can be a challenging process. Seeking support from trusted individuals can help you navigate these difficult changes and provide valuable insights. It's important to find support systems that work for you, whether that's friends, accountability partners, therapists, or coaches. Wheeler advises podcast listeners to avoid relying solely on family members for support, especially if they contributed to the problematic money beliefs in the first place. He emphasizes the importance of being honest about your financial struggles and seeking assistance from people who can provide objective guidance. By connecting with supportive networks and maintaining open dialogue, individuals can create a more balanced and healthy relationship with their finances. Meet Aaron Abke Aaron Abke is a paradigm-shifting spiritual teacher who delivers a fresh, new perspective on Self-Realization through his teachings on the Law of One, Non-Duality, and Spiritual Intelligence. Aaron aims to provide humanity with the tools, knowledge, and practices needed to aid our collective ascension to Enlightenment, or "4th Density Consciousness". His passion and purpose are to awaken this planet to the awareness of our oneness and collective destiny as an Enlightened civilization. Ok, gorgeous soul, this conversation definitely goes deep into the metaphysical and cosmic worlds. I'd invite you to listen with your heart and an open mind. Of course, sift through the conversation, take what resonates, and leave the rest. The Law of One To set the context here, I asked Aaron to share his wisdom on The Ra Material: The Law of One. This book was channeled in the 1980s by UFO researchers who spent years and took meticulous care to connect with and take note of their 106 conversations with Ra, a 6th-density social memory complex. In short, this refers to minds that are all joined on another density plane that are all acting as one mind. This is a similar concept if you listen to Abraham Hicks (channeled by Esther Hicks). And don't worry my friend, I will be sure to explain what this means. We Are All One In essence, Ra states that the whole universe is one being and that all creation is of one thought. We're each literally like a neuron in the Divine Mind, and we all play in the totality of the creator knowing itself. Our minds create the illusion of being separate and of the idea of evil. In reality, there is no evil in God. God is perfect love, unity, and wholeness. The highest truth is our oneness. Everything in the Universe is electromagnetic energy. Every particle has a charge. You must choose which polarity you want to be — positive or negative. The negative charge represents separation and not being connected to your heart. This often shows up as an endless need for power at the expense of others. The positive polarity is about love and being of service to others. When you love and serve, you are emulating the Creator. Why Your Chakras Are Important You may not realize that there are 7 densities of consciousness for the soul to evolve, and they are also connected to the 7 chakras (energy wheels of life). Here's a brief overview to give you a taste of how the chakras are related to life experiences. The primal chakras are 1 - 3, whereas the spiritual chakras are 4 - 7. These 7 energy centers are all about how the soul journeys over a 75,000-year period from separation to oneness. The 1st density is the Root, a red ray of pure being. All 5 elements of the Universe; wood, fire, earth, air, and metal- are considered the root. The 2nd density of consciousness is the orange ray which signifies growth, movement such as our animals, plants, fish, and pets. The 3rd density, the yellow ray, is the ‘I AM' consciousness we experience as human beings. It's about becoming self-aware and is connected to the solar plexus. The 4th density, the green ray, is all about love, oneness, and unity. Ra talks about just needing 51% of the human population to be polarized to the positive to regain and reclaim unity consciousness. This density is about the connection of all things, realizing that separation is an illusion of the mind. Many of us (especially if you are moved to read this) are now moving toward the 4th density. The 5th density is that of light and is connected to the throat chakra, sharing wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. This is the realm of light bodies that are purely electromagnetic in density. The 6th density is the indigo ray and is the law of one density, which is all about unity between love, light, and wisdom. The Ra social memory complex is a conglomerate of higher consciousness that streams as one unified consciousness. The 7th density is where you become your higher self. This gateway density is connected to the crown and where the highest guides merge back into source energy. The Power of Forgiveness Forgiveness is the answer to healing all human wounds, for it taps into the powerful energy of letting go and moving forward. On a metaphysical level, forgiveness gives you the opportunity to see the illusion of separateness. It allows you to release the idea of ‘right' or ‘wrong,' instead putting you into a realm of love and compassion and letting go of anger from the mind and body. The Feminine and Masculine Energies Explained The feminine and masculine energies within all human beings are crucial for healing and are often misunderstood. The masculine represents the mind, and much of the healing here is about correcting false beliefs in the mind. When you forgive yourself and others, you remember who you are. The feminine represents the heart and the ‘I AM' state. Healing happens when you give love to the part of you that is upset. It's ok to feel afraid and hurt, but loving those wounded parts of yourself will help you heal. Remember, all suffering is a cue that you're perceiving yourself in a way that is not true. True enlightenment is making every relationship loving, including the one with yourself. Healing The Mind & Overcoming Suffering All suffering is a cue that you are perceiving yourself in a way that's not true. We suffer because we're obsessed with ourselves, whereas the best way to heal the mind and suffering is through being of service to others, both in thought and action. Positive thoughts and actions have a positive charge. Giving and receiving are one, so you keep for yourself what you give away. For those who have read and worked through ACIM (A Course in Miracles), Aaron also referenced a very important understanding that most of us miss. The way we see the world is upside down, and what disturbs me most in others is a mirror of what's in my mind. Really what's needed for most of us is a healing of the mind. Welcome to Passionate Life Church! Volunteer & Friend, Dee Dee Woodman graces the stage to bring an energetic message. Join us as we dive into God's word and explore the importance of forgiveness. Welcome Home! ----------------------------------------------------- Colossians 3:12-14 NIV Why do we hold onto unforgiveness? We are still reliving the hurt. The offense is “unforgivable.” We are blind to our own sin. What God says about Forgiveness Forgiveness can only come in the supernatural Psalm 34:18 NIV Luke 23:34 NIV 2. Forgiveness is tied to our understanding of what Jesus did on the cross (not optional) Corrie ten Boom: “Even as the angry vengeful thoughts boiled through me, I saw the sin of them. Jesus Christ had died for this man; was I going to ask for more? Lord Jesus, I prayed, forgive me and help me to forgive him. Give me your forgiveness… And so I discovered that it is not on our forgiveness any more than on our goodness that the world‘s healing hinges, but on His. When He tells us to love our enemies, He gives along with the command, the Love itself.“ Colossians 1:13-14 NIV Ephesians 4:30-32 NIV 13. Forgiveness sets you free so you can leave a Godly Legacy. The key to forgiveness is confession and repentance. PRIDE is at the root of unforgiveness. PRIDE led to Satan‘s fall. We must break every agreement with the enemy that we are entitled to some kind of “worldly justice“. We must humble ourselves before the Lord and ask Him to show us our sin and arrogance. Show us Lord where we need to ask for forgiveness. Open our eyes Lord to see you clearly. Let us hold no offense in any relationship. Bind the enemy of our souls so that he has no influence. Mark 11:25 NIV CS Lewis - “to be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks for listening! It is a day to spread awareness about the healing power of forgiveness to create "a safer, more joyful and peaceful life and world." During this episode, I talk about the importance of forgiveness, how not forgiving can lead to resentment, how resentment can make you sick, and more.
There's a heaviness inside, Memories of pain and hurt. Perhaps you've pushed them down, Or maybe the wound still bleeds. Rest knowing, That this heaviness can be released. The wound can be healed, And you can be free from the pain. Breathe in forgiveness, And let her come deep inside, Cleansing you, Healing you, Freeing you. JOURNAL PROMPTS: What needs forgiveness?

Message from Pastor Richard van Lieshout on Ephesians 4:30-32 The Motivation of Forgiveness The Model of Forgiveness - Forgiveness is NOT condoning the action - Forgiveness is NOT exonerating the person - Forgiveness is NOT revoking justice - Forgiveness is NOT just a one-time event The Means of Forgiveness
I loved creating this episode for you guys it includes four things which will help you step into 2022 aligned AF, I share my gratitude for 2021 the highs and lows plus a guided meditation to help you get into alignment. Let go of perfection - life is not perfect, the more that we clutch onto control the less the universe responds to bringing you what you want, it creates resistance. Like child birth the more we can focus on taking the next best step for our health and body, yo feel relaxed the better our organs can function. Forgiveness -Forgiveness is so crucial for wellbeing in life, if you want an open channel to let god/ the universe flow through you forgiving others and yourself is the biggest thing I have ever done in my life when I have been angry, resentful towards others this has blocked me and skewed my way of thinking in every area of life including relationships and business when we can learn to forgive.Set intentions every day not just for a new years resolution, within my therapy and coaching I check in with my clients regularly to set intentions, how do you want your year to go, how do you want each month to go, then break that down into manageable baby stepsMake yourself a priority with self care, this is one I really let slip in the last quarter of this year, i just got so busy that I forgot so i say this one with so much passion. Look at your diary is ther time for just you? To take walks, dance, sing, get a facial or massage, watch a film only you like. Its so easy to get caught up in taking care of others it can be very easy to place yourself bottom of the pile, this leave you feeling exhausted and feeds into feeling blocked with resentment and bitterness. Have clear communication and boundaries with family members to respect your time. As the episode mentions setting an intention for 2022 with a word what will your word for 2022 be? let me know on socials and I will share it :)www.facebook.com/Laura.Beddoe.Spiritual.Coachhttps://www.instagram.com/laura_beddoe_Coach.mentorhttps://www.clubhouse.com/@ukmindsetcoach

When it comes to correction in forgiveness many Churches still fall short, because we don't want to be the bad guy. Especially if we have to go to the offender and offer spiritual correction. We would rather have a Pastor or someone who they deem more qualified. But I am reminded of the shepherd who went after the one lost sheep and brought it back to the 99 who were kept safe. Let's delve on on this last Podcast series on us as a church learning to go after the who one who has left the Church and how the Church offers to restore the one into the realms of forgiveness through the Church itself and through the Lord. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/joseph-baker63/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/joseph-baker63/support

PART II Introduction Words will mean little now. We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. For now we seek direct experience of truth alone. The lessons that remain are merely introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace. Now we begin to reach the goal this course has set, and find the end toward which our practicing was always geared. Now we attempt to let the exercise be merely a beginning. For we wait in quiet expectation for our God and Father. He has promised He will take the final step Himself. And we are sure His promises are kept. We have come far along the road, and now we wait for Him. We will continue spending time with Him each morning and at night, as long as makes us happy. We will not consider time a matter of duration now. We use as much as we will need for the result that we desire. Nor will we forget our hourly remembrance in between, calling to God when we have need of Him as we are tempted to forget our goal. We will continue with a central thought for all the days to come, and we will use that thought to introduce our times of rest, and calm our minds at need. Yet we will not content ourselves with simple practicing in the remaining holy instants which conclude the year that we have given God. We say some simple words of welcome, and expect our Father to reveal Himself, as He has promised. We have called on Him, and He has promised that His Son will not remain unanswered when he calls His Name. Now do we come to Him with but His Word upon our minds and hearts, and wait for Him to take the step to us that He has told us, through His Voice, He would not fail to take when we invited him. He has not left His Son in all his madness, nor betrayed His trust in Him. Has not His faithfulness earned Him the invitation that He seeks to make us happy? We will offer it, and it will be accepted. So our times with Him will now be spent. We say the words of invitation that His Voice suggests, and then we wait for Him to come to us. Now is the time of prophecy fulfilled. Now are all ancient promises upheld and fully kept. No step remains for time to separate from its accomplishment. For now we cannot fail. Sit silently and wait upon your Father. He has willed to come to you when you have recognized it is your will He do so. And you could have never come this far unless you saw, however dimly, that it is your will. I am so close to you we cannot fail. Father, we give these holy times to You, in gratitude to Him Who taught us how to leave the world of sorrow in exchange for its replacement, given us by You. We look not backward now. We look ahead, and fix our eyes upon the journey's end. Accept these little gifts of thanks from us, as through Christ's vision we behold a world beyond the one we made, and take that world to be the full replacement of our own. And now we wait in silence, unafraid and certain of Your coming. We have sought to find our way by following the Guide You sent to us. We did not know the way, but You did not forget us. And we know that You will not forget us now. We ask but that Your ancient promises be kept which are Your Will to keep. We will with You in asking this. The Father and the Son, Whose holy Will created all that is, can fail in nothing. In this certainty, we undertake these last few steps to You, and rest in confidence upon Your Love, which will not fail the Son who calls to You. And so we start upon the final part of this one holy year, which we have spent together in the search for truth and God, Who is its one Creator. We have found the way He chose for us, and made the choice to follow it as He would have us go. His Hand has held us up. His Thoughts have lit the darkness of our minds. His Love has called to us unceasingly since time began. We had a wish that God would fail to have the Son whom He created for Himself. We wanted God to change Himself, and be what we would make of Him. And we believed that our insane desires were the truth. Now we are glad that this is all undone, and we no longer think illusions true. The memory of God is shimmering across the wide horizons of our minds. A moment more, and it will rise again. A moment more, and we who are God's Sons are safely home, where He would have us be. Now is the need for practice almost done. For in this final section, we will come to understand that we need only call to God, and all temptations disappear. Instead of words, we need but feel His Love. Instead of prayers, we need but call His Name. Instead of judging, we need but be still and let all things be healed. We will accept the way God's plan will end, as we received the way it started. Now it is complete. This year has brought us to eternity. One further use for words we still retain. From time to time, instructions on a theme of special relevance will intersperse our daily lessons and the periods of wordless, deep experience which should come afterwards. These special thoughts should be reviewed each day, each one of them to be continued till the next is given you. They should be slowly read and thought about a little while, preceding one of the holy and blessed instants in the day. We give the first of these instructions now.1. What is Forgiveness? Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. It does not pardon sins and make them real. It sees there was no sin. And in that view are all your sins forgiven. What is sin, except a false idea about God's Son? Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go. What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God. An unforgiving thought is one which makes a judgment that it will not raise to doubt, although it is not true. The mind is closed, and will not be released. The thought protects projection, tightening its chains, so that distortions are more veiled and more obscure; less easily accessible to doubt, and further kept from reason. What can come between a fixed projection and the aim that it has chosen as its wanted goal? An unforgiving thought does many things. In frantic action it pursues its goal, twisting and overturning what it sees as interfering with its chosen path. Distortion is its purpose, and the means by which it would accomplish it as well. It sets about its furious attempts to smash reality, without concern for anything that would appear to pose a contradiction to its point of view. Forgiveness, on the other hand, is still, and quietly does nothing. It offends no aspect of reality, nor seeks to twist it to appearances it likes. It merely looks, and waits, and judges not. He who would not forgive must judge, for he must justify his failure to forgive. But he who would forgive himself must learn to welcome truth exactly as it is. Do nothing, then, and let forgiveness show you what to do, through Him Who is your Guide, your Savior and Protector, strong in hope, and certain of your ultimate success. He has forgiven you already, for such is His function, given Him by God. Now must you share His function, and forgive whom He has saved, whose sinlessness He sees, and whom He honors as the Son of God. Peace to my mind. Let all my thoughts be still. Father, I come to You today to seek the peace that You alone can give. I come in silence. In the quiet of my heart, the deep recesses of my mind, I wait and listen for Your Voice. My Father, speak to me today. I come to hear Your Voice in silence and in certainty and love, sure You will hear my call and answer me. Now do we wait in quiet. God is here, because we wait together. I am sure that He will speak to you, and you will hear. Accept my confidence, for it is yours. Our minds are joined. We wait with one intent; to hear our Father's answer to our call, to let our thoughts be still and find His peace, to hear Him speak to us of what we are, and to reveal Himself unto His Son.- Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Workbook Part II Introduction, What is forgiveness? & Lesson 221
Developing Intimacy With God 12. Jesus’ Teaching About Prayer (Part 2) “9 ‘This, then, is how you should pray: ‘“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.” Amen.” (Matthew 6:9-13) Last week in our Saturday series, we started looking at Jesus’ Teaching on Prayer in what we call the Lord’s Prayer and we continue that this week. Forgiveness: Forgiveness, of course, is a major part of the Christian faith and Christianity. Both in the way that God forgives me when I come to Him in penitence and repentance, but also in the way that I forgive others and themselves! Asking for forgiveness, particularly from other people, can be one of the hardest things I need to do. When those times come upon me, I need to stop and consider Jesus Christ and the enormity of His forgiveness. If He forgave me for all I have done wrong, then I also should forgive others, regardless of how difficult that might be to do. Again, is that your experience? Forgiveness deals with my emotional responses toward an offender. Forgiveness enables me to have the same openness toward the person after they offend me, as before. When I forgive the offender, the hurt and the wound start to diminish. This is helped when I realise Jesus Christ understands all of this. I can use these experiences for my eternal advantage. Is that your experience of forgiveness – both in giving and receiving? Temptation: It’s an undeniable and inevitable fact of the Christian Disciple’s life! It is certainly true of my own life. But it is good to know that temptations are common experiences for all Christian Disciples, and not just for me as an individual. No matter what I may think at the time! An important thing to note and remember, is that temptation itself is not sin! Rather it is the giving into temptation that causes me to sin. How easily it is for me to forget that. One of the keys to living a life right with God and not sinning is by dealing with temptation the very moment it confronts us. As a Christian Disciple, I face temptation from three different angles: the world, my old nature and satan. It is not just out and out temptation that Jesus means here, but also the tests and trials of life. We are to overcome both temptations and trials, in order that our character may, through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, become more like that of Jesus, our Master. Deliver: What I am delivered from, is better translated I think, as “evil one” rather than “evil”. satan tempts you and I for being a Christian Disciple. It is he who suggests to me that I should not forgive others and to trust in myself for my own needs. It is he who does not want God to be my number one priority or for God’s will to be done on earth as in heaven. It is satan who does not want God’s kingdom to be spread. Neither does satan want Jesus Christ to return in glory. Therefore, as a Christian Disciple, I am to pray for these things. I need to rely and trust in God for deliverance from satan, who wants to snatch away the Christian Disciples inner joy and dependence on God. Your Power: How can God deliver me from temptation, trials and satan? He can, because He is always all–powerful and eternally almighty. Christian Disciples are to rely on God’s strength to overcome temptation, trials and satan, and not to rely on their own strength. By relying on our own strength, failure is inevitable, but by trusting in God and His power and strength, overcoming temptation, trials and satan is assured. How easy it is to forget such fundamentals of Christian living! Your Glory: What is the aim of being a Christian Disciple, a follower of Jesus Christ? It is for me to give all glory to God regardless of what personal achievements I have gained. His glory is to be my supreme concern, so that God is number one in all aspects of my life as a Christian Disciple. Ergo, I am to pray that His will is done in me, in other Christian Disciples and in the world. I am to pray that His kingdom continues to grow until Jesus Christ returns in majesty and glory. Amen: May it be so, Lord, as I ask in faith of you. That is all for today! In this lecture, Mary Hayes Grieco shares her New Year’s message and explores women’s empowerment through the framework of her Self-Mastery tools. THE TOOLS AND HABITS THAT MAKE YOU THE QUEEN OF YOUR LIFE: WILL – Use your will, your spiritual muscle, to create and change the things you can for the better; surrender to a Higher Will with things you must accept. “The wisdom to know the difference.” DISCIPLINE – Actions and attitudes that you do in the short term whether you feel like doing it or not because it will create greater happiness for you in the long term. Self-discipline is an act of self-love. INTUITION – Like GPS for a driver, intuition is the guidance from your soul to your personality: it’s there to help you fulfill your purposes and to make life easier. Seeing, hearing, sensing, moving & touching, pure knowing. BOUNDARIES – Know your territory! What is and isn’t yours to be concerned about. Who or what you will/will not have in your space. If you are stressed, resentful, or have no time for your real passions, you need to set a boundary. FORGIVENESS – Forgiveness is letting go of an expectation that is causing you to suffer. We do forgiveness for ourselves, to release stagnant burdens of unfinished stories, and regain our vitality. HEALTHY ANGER – Anger is the doorway to your power, but not a house you can live in. VITAL ENERGY MANAGEMENT – Grounded, contained, protected, open to Spirit’s guidance each day. Avoiding toxic spaces, people, situations. Clearing out bad energy. Restoring energy when depleted. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE – Align yourself with this Law of the Universe. See the good; be open to the spontaneous outpouring of Divine Love into you, that blesses and refreshes you, reminding you of worthiness and belonging. GRATITUDE – Gratitude is the WD40 of the Spiritual life. Practicing gratitude makes everything work better. BE A WELL-TUNED INSTRUMENT AS YOU LIVE PURPOSEFULLY: "Relax, and Get Going!" Sing your song - your good song. Mary’s questions for your New Year reflections: In what way or area of my life do I need to give myself full permission to be my real self this year? What do I need to release, in order to shine and to share my gifts more fully from now on? What action step will I take now in 2019 to bring new focus and energy into my dreams? Hope Fellowship Church Dec 9 – 15, 2018 ========== The Already but Not Yet: Forgiveness is Here The Advent Series is about the theological concept of “already but not yet.” The concept holds that believers are actively taking part in the kingdom of God, although the kingdom will not reach its full expression until sometime in the future. We are “already” in the kingdom, but we do “not yet” see it in its glory. The “already but not yet” theology is related to kingdom theology or inaugurated eschatology. ========== Incarnation- Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." Protoevangelium- 1. Our response to our brokenness. Psalms 14:3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. Romans 3:9-12 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." Ephesians 2:1-3 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. James 3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. 2. God’s response to our brokenness. John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:9-13 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:14-17 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.'") For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. a. Jesus comes with truth. b. Jesus comes with grace and forgiveness. 3. God is committed to our joy, and that joy is found in Him. 4. God is committed to our Forgiveness - Forgiveness is Here! a. Forgiveness makes people angry. b. Forgiveness is difficult. Forgiveness is defined by the work of Christ on the cross. It is the absorption of the offense motivated by love. Forgiveness is Here! Forgiveness Forgiveness can be a tricky proposition. Many of us can forgive others but not ourselves or vice versa. Forgiving ourselves is just as important, if not more so, then forgiving others. Forgiving others also doesn't always have to be about them. It liberates us from our own anger as well. www.spiritualphoenixstudios.com www.Oracleatmushin.com --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/spiritual-phoenix-podcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/spiritual-phoenix-podcast/support
Rachel Zucker speaks with Shane McCrae, professor and author of five books, about his poetic process, what he’s working on, and the current political climate. The two discuss the limitations of the term “confessional poetry,” the difficulties of writing about tragedies in the immediate wake of their occurrences, the impulse to witness humiliation in popular culture, the American anxiety of the long poem post-Eliot, and how one might curate an “overwhelming sadness” through art. Shane McCrae reads “In the Language” from his new book In the Language of My Captor, and “Forgiveness in America” from Forgiveness Forgiveness. An audio excerpt from Shane’s newest book-length poem and two hand-picked playlists are available to Patreon subscribers of Commonplace.

Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
HOW TO OVERCOME HURT IN A RELATIONSHIP These are my Empowered Relationship podcast show notes. Be sure to listen to the full episode to hear stories, examples, and more tips. Over the last few weeks, I have been addressing a listener’s question. She essentially asked, “What do you do when you have gotten into a pattern of not avoiding the Nine Destructive Behaviors in relationship conflict? Also, how do you deal with past hurts, in this regard.” To answer her question, I first addressed The Most Important Ingredient To Shifting Conflicts. In my next podcast, I talked about Being The Best You Can Be In Relationship. Today, I am discussing How To Repair & Resolve Hurt In Relationship. FORGIVENESS Forgiveness can seem like a vague, fluffy, and confusing term. WHAT DOES FORGIVENESS REALLY MEAN? Forgiveness is like cleaning the windshield to your heart. Often, we are walking around with resentments, grudges, and bitterness, which gets in the way of our ability to be open, present, and happy in a relationship. Arlene F. Harder writes, “To forgive another person does not mean you will forget what happened or that the person is not responsible for what he did or that you need to bring him back into your life. To forgive another doesn’t even need to mean the other person knows you’ve forgiven him or her. To forgive another simply means you no longer allow another person’s actions or words to cause you resentment, anger and pain. To forgive means you acknowledge that while you would have preferred the other person to act or speak differently, you accept that person just as he is. To not forgive another means you continue to hold onto your resentment, anger and pain over another’s actions by essentially demanding the other person be someone other than who that person knew (or knows) how to be.” TIME TO GRIEVE: When something upsetting happens, it is natural, healthy, and important to give yourself adequate time to feel your emotions. Usually, people take a few hours to a few days for smaller issues and up to several months for bigger grievances. At some point, you may notice your emotional process switch from feeling genuinely sad and upset to feeling resentment and bitterness. While anger can be an important part of the grieving process, there is a difference between being genuinely angry and holding a grudge. If you notice that you are harboring ill feelings towards someone, you may be letting the issue impact your life negatively. Resentments, bitterness, and grudges can overshadow your life- tainting your ability to be happy, positive, and healthy. 1. WHAT ARE YOU HOLDING ON TO? What is getting in the way of your ability to love fully or openly? What is getting in the way of your ability to feel positive and happy in your relationship? What interactions or experiences do you still have issue with? Write a list of resentments and hurts. Do you notice any themes? 2. WHAT RESENTMENTS, EXPECTATIONS, ATTACHMENTS, OR BELIEFS DO YOU HAVE ABOUT THE ISSUE? What are your take aways (i.e. beliefs)? Examples: “You shouldn’t express your anger like that?” “You are too sensitive. I can bring up anything with you.” “You are looking out for yourself. I don’t trust you.” “You care more about your way and being right. You don’t really care about me.” 3. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD? TO BE STRONGER? Forgiveness exercise, by Arlene F. Harder. Acceptance. Boundaries. New agreements. New understanding. 4. BE OPEN TO A NEW PERSPECTIVE. By practicing forgiveness or acceptance, you may see the person in a different light. By practicing forgiveness or acceptance, you may see the situation in differently. New awareness. 5. COME TO TERMS. Release attachment. Forgive for Good. The Sunflower: On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness (Newly Expanded Paperback Edition). Accept. Let go of what no longer serves (surrender). Assume new learning and perspective If you are too focused on the past, you cannot live fully in the present. Forgiveness is a practice. You do not need to let upsetting incidents stay with you forever. You can develop more skill in dealing with hurts and resentments moving forward. I would love to hear your thoughts.
