This podcast is a story about overcoming oppressive obstacles. It’s about facing reality head-on, coming to terms with the truth, and deciding to make a positive change. Specifically, it’s the story of Brad Jensen and how he beat addiction to reinvent himself and become known as “the sober bodybuilder.” I’ll save the details for the interview, but in broad strokes, Brad was a fitness-interested teenager who found himself turning to alcohol and eventually hard drugs to get through life. This led to a decade of serious addiction, becoming a drug dealer, multiple arrests, homelessness, and repeated cycles of recovery and relapse. In other words, Brad has had to deal with far more hardship than the average Joe, but he was able to take responsibility, not succumb to a victim mindset, and completely turn his life around. From the minute, Brad Jensen picked up his first fitness and nutrition magazine at 14 years old, he knew that it was what he was born to do.  To Brad, who's also known as The Sober Bodybuilder, fitness isn't just about physical appearance. Rather, it's a lifestyle that's continuously evolving. Brad is not only a fitness coach and certified nutritionist; he's also an entrepreneur, the host of The Key Nutrition Podcast - plus, he's a Dad to a sweet baby boy, named Dominic and his two fur babies, dogs Champion & Chief. When it came time to create his own business, Brad knew that he needed to build a place where he and his team could educate others on living healthy lives - no quick fixes or fad diets, just honest accountability, hard work, and real results that last. However, this wasn't always the path he followed. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking with Brad about how he grew up being that insecure kid who never felt comfortable in his own skin. A kid who was just looking for acceptance and found it in highschool through the use of painkillers. At the age of 17 he thought he had finally found a way to squash that insecure inner child and to “be the man”. Sadly, this only led to more drugs for himself and a path of destruction that he left in his wake. From the use of painkillers to heroin and methamphetamines, Brad found himself in and out of jail and rehab over the next decade. The fall from happy, healthy middle class family member to homeless finally had him hitting rock bottom. After 30 days of jail time, once again, Brad finally found the spiritual pieces he was missing and needed, in order to really love himself enough to stop the hurt. This is a powerful story of transformation, healing and the pathway to Spiritual Fitness. We get one life and Brad Jensen wants everyone to live their best. The minute he picked up his first fitness and nutrition magazine, he knew that it was what he was born to do.
