But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. We, the elect of God, endure by following that which is brought to our mind by the Holy Spirit. Remember the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and HE will: teach us all things, remind us of all that Jesus has said, guide us into all truth, and show us things to come. (John 14:26 & John 16:13) Also God will not fail us nor forsake us. (Joshua 1:5 & Hebrews 13:5) Jesus says: John 6 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to ME shall never hunger; and he that believeth on ME shall never thirst. 39-40 And this is the Father's will which hath sent ME, that of all which HE hath given ME I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of HIM that sent ME, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on HIM, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on ME hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: We eat the "bread" by believing the Word that is carried to us by the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit. We do this as long as God leaves us on this earth. The elect of God hear the voice of Jesus by HIS Spirit and we follow HIM and will not follow the voice of a stranger. John 10 John 10 Jesus says: 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 27 My sheep hear MY voice, and I know them, and they follow ME: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any pluck them out of MY hand. 29 My Father, which gave them ME, is greater than all; and no (none) is able to pluck them out of MY Father's hand. 30 I and MY Father are one. John 6 Jesus says: 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink HIS blood, ye have no life in you. Every time God sends HIS Word to us and we eat and drink that Word, believing on that Word, we eat the flesh of Jesus and drink HIS blood and have HIS life by HIS Word which was sent to us by God. They received manna and ate it and lived. But we receive Jesus by that Word that comes down to us from God and we eat that Word and live by HIM and life is in us each time we receive HIS Word ... I've always thought it is like receiving a blood transfusion. Jesus says: 54 Whoso eateth MY flesh, and drinketh MY blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For MY flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth MY flesh, and drinketh MY blood, dwelleth in ME, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent ME, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth ME, even he shall live by ME. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

What if everything you've ever done, every word you've ever spoken, and every choice you've ever made has been quietly revealing who your true Father is? Following Jesus is Not Complicated The Lord has been reminding me again of late that following Jesus isn't really complicated. It's not easy... that's true. But it's also not confusing and complicated. I think part of the reason this has struck me of late is because of all the books and all the podcasts and all the content I encounter that it seems like we're muddying the waters and making following Jesus seem really complicated and confusing. But it's ultimately not. So sometimes I think it's helpful to step back and boil things down to the essence of the thing. So in this episode of the Bible in Life podcast, I offer a simple summary of what following Jesus actually entails. It comes down to devotion and obedience. Cultivate devotion. Practice obedience. Jesus brings these two together in John 14 and 15. John 14:15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. John 14:21 The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.” John 14:24 The one who does not love Me does not follow My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me. John 15: 9 Just as the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you; remain in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and remain in His love. Jesus Followers Have, Are, and Will Face Derision, Persecution, and Death; But God Addresses “Impossible” Situations and Transforms Lives MESSAGE SUMMARY: The Apostles did not get into their life roles, after Jesus Resurrection and Ascension, without much grief and anguish; but Jesus transformed their lives. God addresses impossible situations in our lives, too; and then He transforms our lives, through His grace, into something of beauty. Jesus' Cross was an impossible situation, but now we view the Cross as a sign of triumph -- our triumph as believers and followers of Jesus! In John 10:27-30, Jesus succinctly describes how He transforms the lives of those that follow Him: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.”. Additionally, in today's uncertainties and fears and with the new and uncharted paths that our life today demands that we follow, Paul, in Colossians 1:5-6, gives us hope through God's Grace and the Gospel: “because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth". TODAY'S PRAYER: Father, when I think about my losses, it can feel like I have no skin to protect me. I feel raw, scraped to the bone. Looking at Job and Jesus helps, but I must admit that I struggle to see something new being birthed out of the old. Enlarge my soul through the trials and losses of my life. In Jesus' name, amen. My Father’s Day isn’t complete until I plop down after lunch on Sunday to watch the final 18 holes of the US Open golf tournament. My wife and sons became quite familiar with my annual Father’s Day afternoon ritual. I have to grind the final five hours of this golf tournament (on television, of course) until a winner is crowned. In the event of a tie, a two-hole playoff will be held immediately following the final round. Prior to 2018, there was an 18-hole playoff conducted on Monday. The US Open is usually played on the toughest golf course which the professional golfers face all year. The last ten US Open champions have posted an average winning total of just six under par. This year’s US Open returns to a windswept tract near the eastern tip of New York’s Long Island. Shinnecock Hills was founded in 1891 and is one of the oldest golf courses in the United States. They were also one of the first American golf clubs to admit women members from its inception. This will be the fifth US Open conducted at Shinnecock Hills since 1986. Ray Floyd won that one with a one under par total. Corey Pavin won in 1995 (even par). Retief Goosen took the 2004 event at Shinnecock Hills with a four under par score. The most recent US Open held at this course was in 2018 and captured by Brooks Koepka with a one over par score. In other words, this fascinating US seaside links has a long history of playing tough for professional golfers. Watch for these holes to cause the golfers significant trouble this week Hole #7 (Rodan) – Listed at 185 yards, the par-3 7th hole at Shinnecock is a devilish short hole. The winds play havoc with shot selection off the tee. The green features a unique rodan design. That means that the green slopes away from the front portion and toward the back left side. A bad tee shot is quite likely to result in a bogey or worse here. Hole #9 (Ben Nevis) – Ben Nevis is the name of the highest peak (4,400′) in Scotland. The final par-4 on Shinnecock’s opening nine holes involves golfers playing their second shot uphill by some 20 yards against a prevailing wind into an elevated green. Once on the putting surface, some players will face a downhill putt with the wind now pushing their golf ball even faster to make par an exceptional score. Hole #11 (Hill Head) – You wouldn’t think that a short 150 yard par-3 hole would cause many of the top golfers in the world to get jittery standing on the tee box. Missing this elevated green (which looks like inverted bowl from the tee) quickly brings a bogey or double bogey into play. There are four deep sand traps surrounding the 11th hole. Add a gusty wind on the tee, and this short par-3 can wreck someone’s round in a hurry. Hole #14 (Thom’s Elbow) – This difficult par-4 plays a lengthy 520 yards and moves uphill on your second shot into the green. Don’t forget the ever-changing 15-25 mph winds which will affect both your tee shot and approach into the green. The hole was named for Shinnecock’s 55-year Scottish head golf pro named Charlie Thom. Two-time Masters champion Ben Crenshaw once asked Mr. Thom why the 14th hole was named after him. Thom replied, “Look at my elbow. It’s crooked. They named the 14th hole after me, because it’s crooked like my elbow. It goes back up the hill.” Which golfers are “hot” coming into the US Open? Let’s cover a few golfers who are playing well right now. Wyndham Clark – He won the US Open in 2023. Clark then went into a lengthy slump but has returned to form recently with a win at the Byron Nelson tournament in Dallas. He also posted a third place finish at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio a few weeks ago along with an 11th place finish last week at the Canadian Open. When you’re hot, you’re hot! Russell Henley – The quiet Henley won the Colonial in Fort Worth a month ago. He followed it up with a 22nd place finish at the Memorial. Henley has a tendency to play well on difficult courses. Shinnecock Hills will provide a great test of his skills this week. Matt Fitzpatrick – The winner of two events this spring on the PGA Tour, Fitzpatrick shot a closing 66 and 64 in the final two rounds of last week’s Canadian Open to finish in second place. Did you remember that this English golfer won the 2022 US Open title? His game is peaking at the right time this year for a possible second major championship win. Cameron Young – A product of nearby Scarborough, New York, Cameron Young is another two-time winner on this year’s PGA Tour. Young is going to have a boisterous crowd of New York area fans rooting for him all weekend. Now for a few top golfers who haven’t sizzled recently but may contend this week Scottie Scheffler – The world #1-ranked golfer has failed to score a victory since late January. That doesn’t mean that he’s playing poorly, though. Scheffler’s last five tournaments have produced two runner-up finishes, a third place, 12th place, and 14th. Scottie Scheffler could complete his personal career “Grand Slam” with a win at this week’s US Open. He’ll be ready. Jon Rahm – LIV Golf’s top player in 2026, Rahm won the 2021 US Open title on another tough layout at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Spain’s Jon Rahm, like Scottie Scheffler, has a way of pushing his way to the top of the leaderboard in major championships. He broke an 18 month slump with two wins on the LIV Golf tour this spring. JJ Spaun – The defending US Open champion finished sixth and 12th in his two most recent golf tournaments. Spaun’s focus and gritty style is reminiscent of another past US Open winner at Shinnecock Hills. Corey Pavin captured the 1995 US Open on this same golf course with a memorable four wood second shot from the 18th fairway to seal the victory. Tommy Fleetwood – After finally breaking through in 2025 with a win at the Tour Championship, Fleetwood’s sights are now set on winning his first major golf title. The Englishman is quite familiar with seaside links after beginning his professional golf career on the European circuit. Fleetwood is overdue for his first major championship triumph. Don’t overlook these former US Open winners this week! Rory McIlroy – Rory’s first major title was a US Open. He won the 2011 US Open at Congressional near Washington, DC by a whopping eight shots. The deep rough at Shinnecock Hills will punish Rory if his recent issues with errant drives continue. Bryson DeChambeau – Inconsistency has been the only consistent portion of Bryson DeChambeau’s game this season. The two-time US Open champion (2020 and 2024) missed the cut at both The Masters and PGA Championship this year. However, he won twice in March on the LIV Golf Tour. DeChambeau, like McIlroy, must hit more fairways off the tee this week at Shinnecock Hills to get into contention. Justin Rose – The 45 year old Rose is playing in his 100th consecutive major golf tournament this week. That’s a record bested only by Jack Nicklaus. The Golden Bear played in an incredible 146 straight appearances in golf’s majors. Justin Rose is the seventh ranked golfer in the world. He won the 2013 US Open at Merion Golf Club near Pittsburgh. His maturity in pressure situations could give him a chance this week. Brooks Koepka – He won the 2018 US Open on this same golf course eight years ago. Koepka has played well at times this year but hasn’t registered a win in 2026. His five major championship wins have usually been on difficult golf courses. He knows Shinnecock Hills well. If he makes the weekend cut, Brooks Koepka might be a factor on Sunday afternoon. US Open weather: The National Weather Service is calling for: Thursday – 40% chance of rain. High near 76. South winds gusting to 35 mph. Friday – Sunny. High of 77 degrees. West winds at 10-15 mph. Saturday – Sunny. High of 75 degrees. Full Transcript Below: No Longer an OrphanBy Cindi McMenaminBible Reading:“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16 NKJV). Do you realize that when we worry and fret and start living a drama-filled life, we are forgetting who we really are? We are, in a sense, starting to live like orphans. After all, when you are trusting Christ alone for the forgiveness of your sin and for eternal life, you have become His adopted child (John 1:12; Romans 8:14-17). And in that relationship as His child, you have a new identity that does not include the corruption or chaos of your past, or the problems in your present, or the fears of your future. Your drama or problems don’t define you either. In your new role, God calls you: His child – John 1:12 says: “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” His friend – Jesus said “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15). A saint – In Ephesians 1:1, believers in Christ are called saints. Yeah, but I’m not a saint, you may be thinking. Your actions may not always say it. But your position in Him says it. You are seen as perfect by Him because You are covered in the righteousness and goodness of Christ. Forgiven – Colossians 1:14 says you have been redeemed (bought back) and forgiven of all your sins—past, present, and future. So your past sins—or your past wounds—can no longer define you. Your slate is wiped clean. Complete – Do you feel like a “work in progress”? Many people describe themselves this way, referring to how they are not yet what God desires of them. But God’s Word is the final authority, and it says “you are complete in Him” (Colossians 2:10). The work has already been done. You just need to live in that truth and wear it. Secure – both eternally and daily, in Him. You are free from condemnation (Romans 8:1-2), free from condemning charges (Romans 8:31-34), and free from the possibility of abandonment (Hebrews 13:5). Unconditionally loved – Romans 8:35-39 says “nothing” will be able to separate you from the love of God – not death, life, circumstances, sin, poor choices, a season of rebellion, nothing! His temple – that means He lives within you. Your heart is His home. And He dwells with you daily (1Corinthians 6:19). Royalty – He says you are seated with Him in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). His masterpiece –created in Him for good words which He prepared for you before you were ever born (Ephesians 2:10 NLT). Fully capable by His power –You are able to accomplish “all things” through Christ, who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13). His possession –You are not your own, you belong to Him because you were “bought at a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). That means He protects you and provides for you as His own. That also means nothing can touch you that hasn’t first gone through His loving hands. Intersecting Faith & Life: So, why do we stress about our needs, our problems, our finances, our health, and our relationships? Is that our way of saying God has forgotten us and He won’t really be a good Father to His child? Through our stress and striving, are we saying to others around us, “I’m on my own because God won’t—or can’t—help me.” How you and I live day to day is evidence of what we truly believe. An orphaned child says, “I am all alone. I have no one to help me.” A child of God lives confidently in the words: “My Father is with me. And He will help me.” The more you reaffirm who you are in Christ, the more your behavior will reflect your true identity—a loved, well-cared-for child of the Most High God who never needs to stress or worry. Thursday, 11 June 2026 So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.” Matthew 20:23 “And He says to them, ‘The ‘indeed, ‘cup, Mine',' you will drink, and the immersion, the ‘I, I am immersed' you will be immersed. The, also, to sit from ‘rights, Me', and from ‘lefts, Me', not it is Mine – these to give, but those it has been prepared under the ‘Father, Mine'.'” (CG). In the previous verse, Jesus told the sons of Zebedee that they didn't realize what they were asking. He asked them if they could drink the cup He was to drink from and to be immersed with the immersion that He was to be immersed with. They boldly claimed that they were able. In response to that, it next says, “And He says to them, ‘The ‘indeed, ‘cup, Mine',' you will drink.'” Jesus' cup refers to His coming passion. His words do not mean that they would suffer vicariously for others, something Jesus alone could do. Rather, as the Head of the church, those who follow Him will enter into His suffering simply by being His follower. The level at which that occurs for these two is not addressed. Jesus merely states it as a fact. Acts 12:2 reveals that James was killed with the sword by Herod. John's suffering began at the cross as he watched Jesus die. From that time on, his life was wholly sold out to whatever trials or persecutions came his way. Thus, he was a living martyr, a living witness to the sufferings of Christ throughout his years. Toward the end of them, he wrote to the church – “I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Revelation 1:9 There is a tradition that he survived being boiled in oil, but there is nothing to substantiate that beyond the tradition itself. Regardless, his life was long and was given over to the call of Christ. Jesus continues, saying, “and the immersion, the ‘I, I am immersed' you will be immersed.” As noted in the previous verse, Jesus' immersion was His death on the cross. He died for the sins of the world. This is not what James and John would do, nor could they. However, they were immersed with Christ's immersion, something all believers participate in when they come to Christ – “In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.” Colossians 2:11, 12 Christ died for sin, while believers die to sin in Christ. Thus, we are immersed into His immersion. This is referring to what occurs when one receives Jesus, not an outward display of water baptism. Water baptism is a command given by Jesus as an identifying sign of the inner change that has taken place. Jesus continues, saying, “The, also, to sit from ‘rights, Me', and from ‘lefts, Me', not it is Mine – these to give.” At first, this seems contradictory to Revelation 3:21 – “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Jesus has full authority to grant to those who come to Him their place in His kingdom. This would include the position to His left and right, but there is an order and a propriety in all things, including the process of granting such a position. Therefore, Jesus continues, saying, “but those it has been prepared under the ‘Father, Mine'.” The words “under the ‘Father, Mine'” mean “under His authority or direction.” Jesus could not grant what He had not yet received. The Father ordained that Jesus was to be born under the law, live without sinning under the law, and die in fulfillment of the law. For Him to say that He would grant these positions before His work was done would be improper. This is reflected in the opening words of Romans – “Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God 2 which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, 4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” Romans 1:1-4 As noted, there is an order to all things. Jesus had to follow what was prescribed by the Father, fulfilling His will before He could make such a determination as to who would sit in such a position. Thus, they are positions that are, as He said, “prepared under the ‘Father, Mine'.” Life application: The cup of Jesus' suffering is one that those who follow Him will participate in. The manner in which it takes place will be different for all. Paul speaks of this in 2 Corinthians – “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 6 Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 The fact that we have accepted Jesus means that we have partaken of the cup of Jesus' suffering. Any suffering beyond that will be based on our interactions within the world as followers of Christ. If someone were to move to a country where evangelism is forbidden and started evangelizing, he may be fined, imprisoned, or executed. The choice to go to that country was voluntary. He could have stayed in his hometown and been a plumber. As a plumber, someone might say, “I will never hire that guy. He has a Jesus bumper sticker.” That suffering was also voluntary. He did not need to put the sticker on his car. The level and type of suffering we will receive beyond participating in Jesus' suffering through faith in His completed work may be up to us, or it may be a result of our environment. The Christians in Nigeria will certainly agree to that. They are slaughtered by the thousands because of the name of Jesus. Therefore, what occurs to any of us in our Christian walk will result from both personal choices as well as individual circumstances that are often beyond our control. No matter what, we should not fear in our walk in this world. We are His, and He will deliver us from this body of death to eternal life with Him. Lord God, help us to have an eternal perspective in regard to our walk with You. Whatever happens here is temporary and will come to an end. But what lies ahead is eternal. May we not squander this short life we possess when it could be used for Your glory, each step of the way. Amen.

John 15:26 "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,” This verse helps us discern the spirit of truth from the spirit of error. It helped John. He wrote in 1 John 4:2, “By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.” The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth, testifying that Jesus is God in the flesh. In Jesus' words recorded in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” These words were surely spoken so that there would be no confusion between the Holy Spirit and the spirit of the antichrist. The Holy Spirit, sent by the Son, proceeds from the Father for the purpose of testifying, witnessing to, and glorifying the Son of God. The spirit of antichrist, sent by the devil, testifies to and glorifies man without Jesus. It is the spirit of the world contrasted with the Spirit of God. Let's not miss this incredible reality. The Holy Spirit could not be sent if Jesus were not alive, having conquered death by the resurrection. The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, testifies to the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, to His union with the Father, and to our union with Him. Only minutes before this, Jesus had said, “In that day [the day the Holy Spirit is sent to you] you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you” (John 14:20). His presence in our lives, loving through us, is the testimony to the world that Jesus lives and we are His. Hallelujah! John 15:24 “If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well.” It's miraculous and supernatural for anyone to live to love with Jesus. It takes a work of grace and glory to transform a hater of God into a lover of God. Look what sin has done to mankind. We live to hate God. We don't know we hate God until He shows up and does what only He can do. He does the works of God—works that no one else has ever done or can do. We all died when Adam sinned. Death is all we know, and we think it is life because our hearts are beating and we are breathing. So it was with that generation at the time of Jesus' coming. They didn't know they were dead in their sin until Jesus came and revealed the life of God. They saw His works, heard His words, and hated Him because He did things they could not do. He exposed them. John described the coming of Jesus this way in John 3:19-20. “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” The same will be true of all those who are His and who walk in the Light of Christ. God is light and the light is love. As they love with Jesus, it will expose those who walk in darkness. Their love is a supernatural love just as the works of Jesus were supernatural. Like Jesus, they will be hated because in everyone who has sin ruling their lives, the love and works of Jesus bring out hatred for Jesus and His Father. Father, give us courage and the love we need to walk in Your light today. Accomplish your work for the glory of your name. Pastoral Reflections Finding God In Ourselves by Msgr. Don Fischer
Original Airdate: June 11, 2023Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9 | 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 | John 3:16-18 Opening Prayer: Oh God, who in this wonderful sacrament have left us a memorial of your passion, grant, we pray, so to revere the sacred mysteries of your body and blood that we may always experience in ourselves the fruits of your redemption, who lives and reigns with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever, amen. Homily: I want you to think for a few moments about Jesus the man, like us in everything, weaknesses, doubts, fears, anxieties, and for 30 years he spent time reflecting and studying and wondering about life and about who he was and about what he was here for. And then it came time for him to have this burning desire inside of him, this desire to teach and to preach and to open people to something that he knew now and was convinced of, and that is God dwelling inside of him. He was God, but he never acted as if he was God. He acted as he was, a man filled with divinity, and so we have to suspend some logical, “How does this happen? How does that work?” Suspend all that, and stay with the image. And the image is this presence of God inside Jesus gave him the ability to do everything that he did, teach everything that he taught, perform every miracle that he performed with one intention. “I want people to understand who this God is and what he wants from them and what he wants to give them.” That first reading talks about the early time that God called a people together and took them on a journey. It's the archetypal journey of going from slavery to freedom. We are called into a world where we are not burdened by a law and rules and regulations that go against what we really want. No, we're on a journey transforming us so that the things that we're called to do are not commands we have to follow but the only choice we believe is the right choice. We begin to live in the truth that the law calls us to live in. And so in those early days, what it was about was God had to work with us where we were, and we were pretty low on the scale of consciousness, and so basically it turned out that God was taking them on a journey. They didn't know where. They had to trust in him, and so the beginning is do you trust in God and the plan that he has for you. He's going to invite you into that plan, and so what they were experiencing in the plan is that it was not something that was comfortable or easy. What they left seemed to be more comfortable at times, and so they have this resistance consistently through this journey. We don't like this process. We don't like evolving and growing and changing, and so what we sense in this is there is this way in which he says, “Look, I want you to trust in me on this journey, but you've got to trust. That is, I'm not going to zoom you to the goal and say, ‘Now here it is. Now do you believe in me?'” No, he said, “I want you to trust in the process.” And so one of the things he promises to do in this journey of ours is to feed us and to make sure that we have what is essential for life: food and water. You can see the images in these things as we look at the whole story of salvation history. Water is all about cleansing and about quenching the longings in our heart, and food is about having the strength and the power to do what we're called to do or to endure what we're called to endure. So in the very beginning of this journey that we share with God, he revealed to the people that he is there to nurture so that we can do the work, do the work. And what is the work? Well, Paul brings up something interesting. Nothing is more essential to the teaching of Jesus than the whole notion of his body and his blood being offered to us on a regular basis. That is the thing we need. That's the nurturing we need in order to do the work we're here to do, and so Paul is very aware of that. And what he's saying is something that goes beyond just saying, “We are here to receive from God his presence, and it nurtures us and it feeds us.” But then Paul adds, “Know this work of being fed and nourished is something we have to learn to participate in.” And if you're participating in it, it doesn't mean that you're feeding yourself, but then you're realizing that you're being fed with that which gives you strength, and this blood that is so clearly an image of being there for other people, forgiveness, having a stance towards the needs of others, these are things that we are fed, but then we have to feed them to others. So the idea of God giving us what is necessary, he then says, “And if I'm doing that with you, and I'm doing it for everyone, but I'm going to do it often through another person. I'm going to be using you to be my body and my blood to other people, because I am in you, and you share what's in you.” When you think about all of that, it's hard to grasp what that really is like, and we believe, as Catholics, in the Eucharist. We use it every day in our ministry to communities. We celebrate it, and then yet what we realize is that, according to the statistics that are out there, asking the average Catholic, “Do you believe that this bread is really the body of Christ? Do you believe this wine is really the blood of Christ?” Supposedly only about 30 percent of Catholics believe in transubstantiation. What do they believe in? It's a beautiful, rich symbol, a symbol. There's nothing wrong with having symbols that point to a reality, but why was Jesus so insistent in saying, “Unless you believe in this, you can't have life.” And what does he mean by life? He means that ability to be engaged in the life that God has created for you and for me, to believe that all of it is interconnected, that we're part of something much bigger than we are, and we're living out something that is moving toward life and growth and change and something wonderful. That's hard to believe in sometimes. So what do we have to do in order to be more in touch with this incredibly core issue of our Catholic faith or Christian faith, Jesus living inside of us as Spirit, the Holy Spirit, God the Father Spirit, his Spirit in us, flowing out of us, doing the same thing that Jesus did on this planet? Now, if you're waiting for signs, that's a little dangerous, because I don't know how Jesus dealt with his humanity and the ability that he had to make God's presence felt through him through signs and wonders and miracles and driving out demons. I don't think any of us could endure that kind of egocentric food without getting caught up in it. So it has to be done in a way that is not so literal, but at the same time, it is absolutely real. It is his body that we take into us. It is his blood that is coursing through our veins. How else can we imagine God in us, that he's ⎯ we can imagine that he's in our heart. He stays there, but he's in our flesh. He's in the essence of who we are. What a beautiful image to believe in, and the thing that keeps us is our logical mind that says, “Well, if it's bread, it can't really be the body of Christ.” Even miracles around the blessed sacraments, the reality of it is the host bleeds, or somehow the host takes on a quality of flesh, as if to say, “If we believed it really was the body of Christ, by experiment, by science, we would believe it.” Well, I don't think so, because if you look at science now, science is in a very different place than it was, say, 50 years ago. Quantum physics has changed our whole idea and understanding of what matter really is, and we find out that matter is not made up just of atoms but of tiny particles. And these tiny, tiny particles have the ability to do things we never thought was possible, because a particle can be both something that you can measure and see and weigh, and it can also just be energy, just power, just a force. Reality can be both material, and in a sense, we would say non-material to our eyes. That's not super-unusual, unnatural. It's the way the world works. If the world works that way, then the idea of this presence of God in the world that is, to us, invisible, has every right to be there in a sense. Science says, “Yeah, there's a Spirit in the world that is goodness, that is him, that is God, that is truth, and it's as real as the person you're looking at or the chair you're sitting on.” And that probably doesn't really work to say, “Well then, I believe,” because even the disciples had a hard time believing. In fact, it's encouraging to me, when you listen to all those stories after Easter, how many times Jesus had to say, “I was with you. You saw this. You saw that. Why do you still not believe. Believe, believe.” That's the key. Can you believe that this issue that Jesus made such a big deal about, “You've got to believe that I'm in you. My Father's in you. The Holy Spirit is in you. We're working with you. Everything is working together. You're on this path. Without that, we can just spiral down into something very dark.” So make a choice. Believe in Christ's presence. Believe in the food that we find in each other that is him, the nourishment, the power to forgive, to love. We find it through other people, because he's in them, and he flows to us, and he's in us. It changes my life. It has changed it, and I hope it changes yours. Amen. Closing Prayer: Father, everything we long for, everything we ask for, you promise to work it so that we will receive that gift. Help us to trust in your promise. Never let it diminish our desire to ask over and over and over again for all that we need to live the life you've called us to live. And we ask this in Jesus' name, amen. Basin water. Son of God washing dusty feet. Departure words. Invisible kingdom. They didn't grasp. Loneliness fogged in. Post‑meal Psalms rise: "Hosanna. Blessed is He who comes." Irony stung—prophetic words, unaware singers. Down Kidron slope. Across the brook. Gethsemane—"olive press." Pressure fitting. Jesus breaks the silence: "Tonight you all fall away." Protests. He knows better. How alone already? Takes Peter, James, and John farther. Past midnight. Twenty hours sleepless. Jesus is beyond tired. "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch." (Matt 26:38) Goes farther. John 15:23 “He who hates Me hates My Father also.” Hate is a strong word, isn't it? In Deut. 5:9, God speaks to us. “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me.” Hatred for God is judged and revealed when we put anyone or anything in His place. He alone is worthy of our worship and service. This foundational understanding of hatred for God expressed through idolatry seems to relate to these words of Jesus. Another way of stating this truth is this: He who is most delighted and satisfied in Jesus above all else loves Him and loves God, the Father, also. Whoever hates Jesus and His words, also hates God. What great truth underlies this statement? Jesus and God, the Father, are one. Let's follow the line. Jesus and the Father are one. If you hate one, you hate the other. Believers in Jesus and Jesus are one. If you hate one, you hate the other. The converse is also true. If you love the Son, you love the Father. If you love those who are His, you love Jesus. What a privilege it is to love with Jesus each day. We are expressing our love for Jesus and the Father, for His glory. John 15:20 “Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.” Earlier in the evening, after Jesus washed His disciples' feet, He had said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.” It was said in the context of Jesus' telling them to serve each other as He had served them by washing their feet. In that case, the message was do as I do. In this case, the idea is the similar. It's you'll receive the same from others that I receive. Those who persecute Me will do the same to you, and those who honor Me by keeping My word will do the same with you and your words. As we live to love with Jesus, those who reject God's word will also reject our words. Love won't make a difference in how they treat us or what they think about us. However, we should not shrink back from speaking God's word in love. As we do, we can know that those who love God's word will receive our words as we are faithful to say what He says. They will receive and honor our words because we are repeating Jesus' words. That's a vital aspect of living to love with Jesus. Because we love Him, we keep His words and share them with others in His name. As Jesus said, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me.” (John 14:24). June 3, 2026Today's Reading: John 10:22–42Daily Lectionary: Ecclesiastes 11:1-10; John 10:22-42“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.'” (John 10:27-30)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.“I and the Father are one.” What does Jesus mean by those words? As we are reflecting on the Triune Nature of our God, is this one of those places where Jesus is pointing us to the reality that He and the Father are homoousias, one in substance? Well, substance is what a thing is. Jesus says that He and the Father are one, so just by the words alone, we have to understand that Jesus is talking about their unity of substance. But as He is talking about that unity, what is He talking about? He's talking about security. He is telling His people that they are His sheep and He is their Shepherd. He is telling them that as He is their Shepherd, they are protected and secure. They are secure because no one can snatch them out of His Hand. In fact, the Father has given these sheep to Jesus, and no one can snatch them out of the Father's Hand. At this point, if we think too hard about the unity of substance, about the oneness of the Trinity, we can get really confused. How can the Father have a hand and the Son have a different hand if they're one? Back to that question of how can one be three? Idunno. But in this case, that's not the main point. The main point is to tell you, His beloved sheep, that you have no need to fear. You are safe in the hands of your God. You are safe in the hands of the Son. You are safe in the hands of the Father. Which hands, the Father's or the Son's? It doesn't matter, you're safe. Your One God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit cares for you, guards you, and protects you. You can see this in the Son, who is the Good Shepherd who laid down His life on the cross to defend you from the wolves of sin, death, and the devil. You can see it in the Father who sent His Son into this world that you would be saved. You can see it in the work of the Spirit who has called you by the Gospel, enlightened you with His gifts, sanctified, and kept you in the true faith. This God has pursued you with His rod and staff, and He has picked you up in His ever-loving hands. The whole world around you might appear to fall away, but this unified God is working monolithically to save, guard, and keep you. In the Name + of Jesus. "And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. 5 "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, "Where are You going?' 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Jesus visits the Sanatorium.John 5:1-4 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.2. Jesus asks a strange question.John 5:5-7 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.3. Years ago, I heard a life-changing quote that has stayed with me for years. It said, “Everything you need is on the other side of surrounding your life to God.” I believe this statement is absolutely true. Everything we need, God can provide. I pray you take that truth to heart. Everything you need God can provide. Yet, often the provision doesn't come until we surrender to God. Main Points:1. As long as we think we can do it without God, he'll let us try. When we come up empty, it's then that we realize surrender is a good idea. God wants us to love him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. When we put God first in our lives, when we give him control, we'll experience the joy of God's provision in every area of life. 2. God's plan is not about depriving us of good things. He delights to give his children good gifts. He also desires, above all else, for us to follow him and delight in him. Sometimes God will make us sacrifice something we want to secure our heart for the greatest good: himself. 3. Is there an area of your life in which God is calling you to surrender? Have you been holding on tightly out of fear and uncertainty for the future? Take a step of faith and let go. Surrender. Trust our loving Father with everything that is important to you.
