On May 14th, 2026, a group of experienced Italian divers disappeared during a research trip in the Maldives, setting off a race to save them. Despite their skills, the divers made a fatal wrong turn inside a monstrous underwater cave. A Coast Guard sergeant also tragically lost his life while trying to recover them. The tragedy revealed a series of miscommunications and planning lapses. None of the organizations involved had a complete picture of the group's intentions, and the divers lacked the proper equipment and certifications for the dive. In this episode of Trauma Interrupted, Jan Broberg sits down with Roanna (Ro) White, Australian educator, advocate, and entrepreneur, whose healing journey began not with a memory, but with a physical sensation she couldn't ignore. Ro spent years managing high-functioning depression, gut health issues, and a nervous system that never seemed to rest. It wasn't until she entered somatic therapy that the body began to tell its story: a childhood sexual abuse experience she had no conscious memory of, buried since she was around four years old. From the first crack of awareness, Ro walked a long road, through CBT, antidepressants, insomnia, intrusive thoughts, and eventually toward something that looked a lot like freedom. This podcast with Roís- Máire was recorded shortly after  the horrific stabbing incident in North Belfast and before the racist pogroms which followed. It was also before the PSNI warned the Belfast Ard Mheara that her life was in danger. It has been a difficult week especially for those citizens evicted from their homes. We stand in solidarity with them. Racism is the first cousin of sectarianism. The majority of people are opposed  to both these negative evils.
