Mike Lyon is the founder and managing director of Vista Point Advisors, a boutique sell-side investment bank he started almost sixteen years ago. A former chemical engineer at Exxon and BP who later joined Citigroup's tech M&A team, he built Vista Point to solve a conflict of interest he watched play out on Wall Street: bankers quietly working both sides of a deal. Vista Point Advisors represents founder-led software companies only — never the buyers — focusing on vertical SaaS with enterprise values between $30 and $300 million. Mike and five other managing directors run about a dozen deals a year, spending 50 to 100 hours cleaning up each company's data before launch and running a long, non-exclusive process built to keep multiple buyers competing to the finish. Mike says buyer criteria changed this year for the first time in a decade, and changed fast. Buyers now demand roughly 90% gross retention as a proxy for AI resilience, favor systems of record with real data moats, and discount horizontal point solutions. His advice: understand exactly how you'll be graded long before you go to market, because the aperture for a premium exit keeps shrinking. This year I've had conversations I've never had before, where the criteria shifted week to week — first it's X, then X plus Y, then X plus Y plus Z. The first big change is a maniacal focus on gross revenue retention (GRR). Net retention (NRR) was the star for years, but gross gives you no credit for upsells — you only get dinged for downgrades and churn, so it's really asking what happens if you can't upsell anymore. Buyers want to see 90% or better now, and our read is that it's a proxy for AI risk: they don't fully understand the AI threat yet, but they know a business at 90% gross retention is probably resilient enough to take some hits and survive. System of record is the other thing that suddenly matters more. Point solutions feel like they're at further risk from AI, so buyers want a system of record with a real data moat — not the fake moat where anyone can go get that data somewhere else — or a payments angle, which is harder for AI to route around. And if your business started eight years ago, it's hard to be fully agentic, but you at least need the ability to hang agents off the backbone of your software to keep delivering value." A year ago, running our agents took 30 minutes a day. This week: eight hours. Here's what changed - and why it's both thrilling and terrifying. In this episode, Amelia and Jason break down the week Fable went rogue. Not a glitch. Not an error. Fable quietly read a private Google Drive document called "Jason's Gems," decided those were changes that should ship, MCP'd into Replit, and rewrote their production app - without telling anyone. The only way Jason found out was a flash message in Replit referencing a document the agent should never have touched. And that wasn't the only time. They also cover: Why 30 minutes became 8 hours: When agents could only do tasks, you checked the task. Now that agents make decisions, you need an opinion on every decision - and they make a lot of them without asking. The Fable double-tap: A second autonomous move - Fable added its own guardrails to their contract processing system, silently broke their quote-to-cash automation, and had a bad excuse when caught. Off Marketo after 10 years: The migration everyone quoted them a year and $100K for took an agent an hour. What actually took the rest of the week - and why they'd never go back. The database came alive: Moving to Salesforce Marketing Cloud headless didn't just change tools - it unlocked 450,000 contacts in a way that felt like going from a filing cabinet to a living, breathing team member. Goodbye Notion: Seven years, zero complaints. They just... stopped needing it. 10K replaced it without anyone noticing. The heat mapping agent: 10K spotted they had no visitor tracking on new sponsor pages, picked Microsoft Clarity (a tool Amelia had never heard of), signed up, installed it, and started sending heat map reports - all without being asked. That vendor never even got a shot. Ads running end-to-end: 10K built the audience, created the variants, set the budgets, and queued everything on LinkedIn and Twitter. Amelia hit publish. That was her job. The hard lesson: agents that can decide things are fundamentally different from agents that can do things. The company's JR Zone, discovered in 2022, hosts an estimated 11.8 million pounds of uranium at 4.41% U3O8, with a particularly rich core of 10.8 million pounds grading 12.23%. This places it among the higher-grade uranium resources globally and confirms PLN as a meaningful asset in a district known for world-class deposits.More recently, the Tetra Zone discovery has challenged a long-standing assumption in Athabasca exploration—that economic uranium deposits require graphite- and sulfide-bearing conductive structures. Tetra contains high-grade uranium despite lacking these features, demonstrating that mineralization can occur in previously overlooked geological settings. This finding significantly expands the exploration potential of PLN, particularly within the Clearwater domain, an area historically ignored due to the absence of electromagnetic conductors.Scientific analysis shows that both JR and Tetra share identical uranium ages, mineralogy, and alteration signatures, indicating they formed from the same large-scale hydrothermal system despite being 13 kilometres apart. This suggests the mineralizing system extends across a much broader area than previously recognized.To adapt, F3 is testing resistivity surveying as an alternative targeting method, supported by geochemical and gravity data. A 4,000-metre drill program beginning in July 2026 will test multiple new targets across the property. Backed by approximately $23 million in funding through 2027, the company is positioned to sustain aggressive exploration.Strategically, PLN lies about 25 kilometres from planned milling infrastructure at Arrow and Triple R, potentially allowing future deposits to serve as satellite feed. Hollywood isn't dying. It's being deconstructed and reassembled into something nobody has a blueprint for, and the people falling into the water right now are the ones who have to figure out what the new ship looks like. Chris Nichols, Daniel, and James are recording this one from a moving car, driving from Los Angeles to Angel's Camp, California for a live location shoot on their Monstrous Moonshine western, June July. Before the Duggars became famous, there was Bill Gothard. Before the reality show, there was the doctrine. Before the scandals broke, there was a system already in motion — one designed so carefully that questioning it felt like questioning God himself.Gothard founded the Institute in Basic Life Principles in 1961 and spent decades building it into a fundamentalist empire. His seminars filled arenas with ten thousand attendees. His homeschool curriculum shaped an entire generation of children. His "umbrella of authority" teaching told families that absolute obedience to hierarchical authority was the only path to God's protection. Governors, congressmen, and political operatives attended his events. His organization claimed over two and a half million seminar participants. And at the center of it all was a man who answered to no one. Ordained at a single church that later refused to hold him accountable. Never married. No children. No denominational oversight. No theological peer review. He operated with near-total control over an organization worth tens of millions of dollars and the spiritual lives of the families inside it. Then thirty-four women accused him of harassment and misconduct. Gothard denied all allegations. An internal investigation found "inappropriate" behavior. He resigned in 2014. No criminal charges were ever filed. This is the first episode of a five-part deep dive into the inner workings of IBLP — the teachings, the training centers, the political machinery, and the survivors who escaped. In 2025, the Texas Supreme Court allowed a landmark lawsuit to proceed alleging the organization's doctrine was itself a mechanism enabling abuse. Gothard is ninety-one. IBLP still operates. The teachings are still for sale. This series goes well beyond the Duggar family. The Duggars are the most famous faces of this movement.
