We met many times, so I was really happy when Oana Lungescu agreed to the following interview. She is the longest-serving NATO Spokesperson, from 2010 to 2023, and the first woman and first journalist to hold the post. And, as she said, she was also the first person from the wrong side of the Iron Curtain in this position. We talked about her career path from Ceausescu's Romania to BBC and the Alliance and also about the NATO summit in Washington DC, NATO's adaptation and the Russian war against Ukraine. Listen to our conversation. And if you enjoy what I do, please support me on Ko-fi! Thank you. https://ko-fi.com/amatisak

In 1936, long before the discovery of the Viking settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows, the Royal Ontario Museum made a sensational acquisition: the contents of a Viking grave that prospector Eddy Dodd said he had found on his mining claim east of Lake Nipigon. The relics remained on display for two decades, challenging understandings of when and where Europeans first reached the Americas. In 1956 the discovery was exposed as an unquestionable hoax, tarnishing the reputation of the museum director, Charles Trick Currelly, who had acquired the relics and insisted on their authenticity. In Beardmore: The Viking Hoax That Rewrote History (McGill-Queen's University Press, 2018), Dr. Douglas Hunter reconstructs the notorious hoax and its many players. Beardmore unfolds like a detective story as the author sifts through the voluminous evidence and follows the efforts of two unlikely debunkers, high-school teacher Teddy Elliott and government geologist T.L. Tanton, who find themselves up against Currelly and his scholarly allies. Along the way, the controversy draws in a who's who of international figures in archaeology, Scandinavian studies, and the museum world, including anthropologist Edmund Carpenter, whose mid-1950s crusade against the find's authenticity finally convinced scholars and curators that the grave was a fraud. Shedding light on museum practices and the state of the historical and archaeological professions in the mid-twentieth century, Beardmore offers an unparalleled view inside a major museum scandal to show how power can be exercised across professional networks and hamper efforts to arrive at the truth. LEGO is one of the world's best-loved and most familiar brands, adored by generations of children (and podcast hosts and listeners).  What is less well known, perhaps, is its journey over the last 20 years which has required significant innovation.  Granted unprecedented access to every part of the LEGO Group, David Robertson, for his book 'Brick by Brick', not only charted each twist in the company's story but analyses the nature of the challenges and how they were overcome.  The lessons he distills from such an epic journey can be used to inform leadership decision making, digital transformations and innovation strategies today.Dave, Sjoukje & Rob talk with David (MIT Sloane School of Management & Horton School at University of Pennsylvania & author of 'Enterprise Architecture as Strategy', 'Brick by Brick' and 'The Power of Little Ideas') about his work with LEGO and how his findings helps drive and govern innovation.  How do you think not only "outside the box" but also "around the box" and how does the Business Model Canvas help with categorising and organising around innovation?  We begin and end the conversation with the advantages and disadvantages of using Enterprise Architecture...TLDR:00:45 Intros02:03 Cloud conversation with David Robertson37:00 Is there a role of Enterprise Architecture in an Agile world?45:16 New book looking at the next phase of the LEGO journey!Further reading:Enterprise Architecture as Strategy: https://amzn.eu/d/68ezC9wBrick by Brick: https://amzn.eu/d/3q3IsiXPower of Little Ideas: https://amzn.eu/d/69Zq7UqGuestDavid Robertson:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidchrobertson/HostsDave Chapman: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chapmandr/Sjouke Zaal: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sjoukjezaal/Rob Kernahan: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-kernahan/Production Marcel Van Der Burg: https://www.linkedin.com/in/marcel-van-der-burg-99a655/Dave Chapman: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chapmandr/SoundBen Corbett: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ben-corbett-3b6a11135/

Listeners, we're back this week with N. Chloé Nwangwu. Chloé Nwangwu is the brand scientist and the director of NobiWorks a brand visibility consultancy rooted in Behavioral Science. She unabashedly believes brands not built with power dynamics and biases in mind should consider the old Thanos snap treatment. That means disappearing it from this plane of existence for the non nerds. She is in the business of equipping underrecognized brands with choices scientifically formulated to make them as noticeable as possible to the right people. Everything you do to be better seen heard and understood should work. And it is her personal mission to make that so. I was so intrigued by the cover and premise of Sasha Alsberg's Breaking Time that I bought it right when it came out. This YA novel is set in Scotland where the final Pillar of Time (i.e., time traveler) and her protector from the past battle evil and maybe fall in love. I lament the disappointment of not enjoying this book, take the great premise and rewrite the story to make it more interesting, and question Klara's anti-college views considering she wants to be an astronomer.
