Ivan Hampden Jr. , Founder and President/CEO of Hamptown Music Institute, was born and raised in New York City, and grew up in Harlem's musically diverse neighborhoods to the rhythms of R&B, Salsa, Caribbean, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Funk and whatever else trickled in. This saturation of music inspired Hampden to start playing the drums at the age of eight, with the local Catholic school marching band. By age 13, he was playing in local clubs in and around New York City, with Blues musicians who helped instill in him a sense of timing and groove. The musical diversity of his early youth set the foundation for Hampden's future work with percussion and keyboards. Hampden started his formal training in 1973, studying at the Jazz Mobile with Charlie Percep, and at Mannes College of Music with Norman Grossman. He went on to attend Bronx Community College in 1977, where he received private lessons at the Metropolitan Opera with Richard Horowitz. During his first semester at Bronx Community College, a friend told him about the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Hampden had to be involved and joined the orchestra—a position he still holds today. While at the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Hampden was also a drum and percussion instructor at the Harlem School of the Arts, and at Seton Hall University in the Black Music Department. But his talent reached far beyond Harlem. Hampden has touched and enhanced the New York theater community as well, performing for various shows on Broadway, The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and many more.. Not only an accomplished drummer and percussionist, Hampden is also a producer and songwriter who collaborates with such artists as Luther Vandross, Nick Ashford, Chaka Khan, Eartha Kitt, and many others. Along with being Luther Vandross' drummer and co-writing partner for 17 years (which earned him recognition four(4)times from the Grammy Awards as a Musician, Arranger and Programmer on a number of Vandross's platinum recordings) until the time of the consummate musician's death , Hampden currently records and tours with other notable artists such as Stephanie Mills, Ashford & Simpson, Roberta Flack, Phil Perry, Vanessa Williams and Jennifer Lopez. In 2001, Hampden relocated to the south, where he continues to write and produce in between touring around the country and world. In fall 2007, Hampden signed on as an adjunct professor at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, teaching recording production I and II, and audio postproduction. In the Fall of 2010, Ivan also accepted an offer to teach Drums and Percussion at Johnston Community College. After 10 years of teaching as a music educator in North Carolina, He is now Founder and CEO of The Hamptown Music Institute in Clayton, North Carolina, where his mission is to “Develop the next generation of music industry professionals and Artists.” While continuing to be in demand as a music Producer, Ivan is also working with new local talent around the country. Live Performance credits: Bonnie Raitt, Al Jarreau, Dionne Warwick, Maceo Parker, El Debarge, Kenny Lattimore, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Michael MacDonald, India.Arie and Joe—the list goes on and on. Vanessa Nolet is a 29-year-old young woman from Quebec, Canada. She is working on finishing up a bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management. Prior to getting sick with Lyme disease, Ms. Nolet had a great life filled with friends and sports. She worked at a spa while going to college and was exposed to Freon during an accident which changed her life. Around this time, Ms. Nolet was bit by a tick and within a month she became very ill. She had chronic fatigue, whole body spasms, light sensitivity, body burning, ulcers, arthritis, irregular periods, autoimmune symptoms, and more. She visited many doctors, specialists, and hospitals in Canada before going to America for help where she was finally diagnosed. Nobody could figure out why she was sick. Some doctors misdiagnosed her with conditions such as Fibromyalgia, other pain disorders, and Lupus. Finally, at the age of 27, Ms. Nolet was diagnosed with Lyme disease in part thanks to Dr. Richard Horowitz's Multiple Systemic Infectious Disease Syndrome (MSIDS) questionnaire. She was treated with Doxycycline, Rifampin, Azithromycin, Naltrexone, AGE, and more with a specialist in Canada. If you would like to learn how a young woman from Canada fought for a root cause diagnosis and is now on the path to health, then tune in now! In this episode we will discuss tick-borne illnesses with Dr. Richard Horowitz.  Dr. Richard Horowitz, MD is a board-certified internist with 30+ years of experience treating over 13,000 patients for tick-borne disorders and complex autoimmune conditions. He is the author of two national best-selling books on Lyme disease (Why Can't I Get Better? St Martin's Press, 2013, NY Times Best Seller; How Can I Get Better? St Martin's Press, 2017, National Bestseller).  Listen to today's episode to learn more about these pesty parasitic arachnids!   There are over 800 different species of ticks in the world and over 100 of these are found in North America. The good news is you will probably never encounter most species of ticks in your lifetime. Only a handful of tick species come into contact with humans.  Contrary to popular belief, a tick isn't an insect, but rather falls into the category of arachnids. Other examples of arachnids include spiders, scorpions, and mites.  People who work, camp, play, or visit wooded and grassy areas are at the highest risk of getting bitten by ticks. Pets are also highly susceptible to tick bites due to their exploratory nature.

We had a fun, informative and inspiring conversation with the renowned, Dr. Richard Horowitz, MD who is a board-certified internist with 30+ years of experience treating over 13,000 patients for Lyme and associated tick borne disorders. He is the author of 2 national best-selling books on Lyme disease (Why Can't I Get Better? St Martin's Press, 2013, NY Times Best Seller; How Can I Get Better? St Martin's Press, 2017, National Bestseller.) He joined us to chat about his newly released novel, Starseed R/evolution: The Awakening, with an urgent warning of the impending climate crisis our planet faces, including real-world scientific and cultural solutions. He has worked during the past several years with Health and Human Services (HHS), the agency of the Federal government tasked with protecting the health and wellbeing of all Americans. Dr Horowitz has also worked on finding solutions for COVID-19 and has published several scientific articles in the medical literature on the diagnosis and treatment that are undergoing randomized, clinical trials at major universities. Dr. Horowitz is a citizen scientist has been carefully following the science on climate change during the past several years. The conclusion he and other government scientists have reached after carefully reviewing the scientific literature is that humanity has approximately an 8-10 year window to reverse the present course of carbon pollution before we reach a tipping point of no return, resulting in irreparable damage to our ecosystems and way of life. The health, economic and social devastation of unchecked climate change is rapidly approaching and if no immediate action is taken, according to scientists from across the globe who have examined the data, is that future generations will be experiencing what has been described as nothing less than the 6th extinction. A radical destruction of life as we know it, where a significant portion of plant, animal, insect, and human life will become extinct. We have experienced 5 prior extinctions in human history, but this is the only one that will be a direct result of human greed and ignorance. An anthropomorphic climate disaster. The pain, suffering and loss will be devastating for each and every person and family across the planet. This is the future humanity is running towards. Dr Horowitz has studied during the past 40 years with Tibetan Buddhist masters of the Karma Kagyu lineage, having received over 200 initiations and teachings into the nature of mind and existence. He has taken vows of the bodhisattva to relieve the suffering of others and he join us to help spread the word and ask you listeners to be a part of his mission. Dr Richard Horowitz is an internationally recognized Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD), author of 2 New York Times bestselling books and co-author of the 2018 Housing and Human Services (HHS) Tick-Borne Disease Working Group (TBDWG) report to Congress. He has treated more than 14,000 Lyme disease patients earning him the reputation as the LLMD to the stars. During his career, Dr. Horowitz has learned that Lyme disease and chronic illness can be healed if treated holistically, i.e., physically, emotionally, and spiritually. His patients have also taught him that Lyme disease is a symptom of a chronically ill earth, suffering ongoing ravages of climate change. In his third book, Starseed R/evolution - The Awakening, Dr. Horowitz demonstrates that our planet can be saved from peril if the Lyme disease community can set aside differences and join forces to lead the world's communities to individual and collective healing. Described as a “Gulliver's Travels for the twenty third century, Starseed R/evolution utilizes satire, adventure, pop psychology, mystical exploration and a breath of fresh air in a world choking on its own hubris.” The book captures the scope of the threats and solutions required to prevent the ecocide facing our planet.

Dr. Emily Rowe goes beyond the world of conventional medicine by combining intellect with intuition, holding multiple paradigms in her mind simultaneously. Utilizing a customized client-centered approach, she digs deeply into the root causes of diseases, using cutting-edge laboratories and awareness of how ecological toxins can effect health. She embodies empathy for her clients, as she has personal experience with medical issues related to environmentally acquired illnesses. Treatment plans for her clients are individually created, and often combine a variety of methods including physiological detoxification strategies, eradication of stealth infections, vibrational resonance healings, meditation, hypnotherapy, medical astrological analysis, and ancient wisdom practices, such as Shamanism, acupuncture, and herbal medicines. As a result of her work as a healer, there is a higher level of conscious awareness of the environmental ramifications of toxins on chronic inflammatory illnesses, leading to insights about macrocosmic-microcosmic relationships and profound healing, and true etiological resolution. Emily T. Rowe graduated from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2004. After a brief time in the field of Internal Medicine, she became frustrated with the Western approach to illness. She realized that she was being trained to treat the symptoms of disease and its end-stage complications, while failing to address its root cause. Inspired to find a comprehensive and definitive way to heal her patients, she went back to school and completed her Master's Degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and became ceritifed inn functional medicine with the Institute of Functional Medicine. She has extensively studied with Dr Richard Horowitz for Lyme and Dr Neil Nathan for mold toxicity. She holds certifications in yoga, hypnotherapy and Shamanism. She specializes in treating patients who have exhausted or failed Western medical therapies for chronic conditions. Dr. Christopher Estes is a board certified OB/GYN and functional medicine physician. After spending over a decade working at all levels of the conventional medical system, he became increasingly frustrated with its limitations and the lack of progress he saw with so many of his patients, especially those with the most complicated medical issues. This, combined with personal experiences with environmental toxicity and chronic infections, spurred him to go back to school and develop a better way to practice medicine. He became an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Provider then continued to dive deeper into learning about treating environmental toxicities, Lyme disease and related infections. He has also introduced advanced IV nutritional therapies, ozone therapies, quantum biofeedback, platelet rich plasma and stem cell therapies. Further, he integrates energetic and psycho-spiritual practices in his work using sound healing and shamanic techniques. Chris is on a lifelong journey to continue learning new modalities to treat his patients and help them meet their health goals using a fully integrated approach from Western medical science to ancient healing traditions. He is incredibly grateful to his wife and partner in medical practice, Emily Rowe, MD, AP. Together, they own and operate Miami Beach Comprehensive Wellness Center, a healing space for people who have been failed by the conventional medical system and anyone seeking an alternative to the inadequacies of routine medical care.
