This week on Three Guys and a Flick… we're giving thanks, fighting Darkseekers, and emotionally supporting anyone still traumatized by that dog scene. That's right — we're reviewing I Am Legend, the movie that proved Will Smith can carry an entire film… and also that New York City is somehow even scarier without traffic. Join us as we break down everything: Will Smith's powerhouse performance, the science-y apocalypse setup, the Darkseekers and their questionable skincare routines, New York as a moody supporting character, AND the battle of the century — the theatrical ending vs. the alternate ending (only one will survive). We're diving into casting trivia, wild production notes, and of course serving up our final ratings along with some amazing listener interactions and fresh movie-helmet submissions.
Zach Baylin and Kate Susman are a successful husband-and-wife creative duo and the co-founders of the production company Youngblood Pictures. Baylin is an Oscar-nominated screenwriter who achieved prominence for his debut feature, KING RICHARD - where Will Smith won the Oscar, and has since co-written major films including CREED III, THE ORDER, GRAN TURISMO. Susman, a producer and screenwriter, is his primary creative partner, and together they co-created, co-wrote, and served as executive producers and showrunners for the upcoming Netflix crime thriller limited series, BLACK RABBIT. The series follows the owner of a New York City hotspot (Jude Law) who allows his turbulent brother (Jason Bateman) back into his life and opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he's built. In this interview, we talk about how their writing collaboration started, the elements of a good partnership, their work process and writing philosophy, their show BLACK RABBIT, and the challenges of writing for TV/limited series. RUNDOWN We're celebrating the start of Year 8 of Mitch Unfiltered! Mitch checks in from Las Vegas—oddly with zero urge to gamble—while Hotshot breaks down his old roulette system and the painful bad beat that once drove him out of Vegas for years. Mitch and Hotshot geek out over the new Eddie Murphy documentary, then Mitch tells his favorite 10-seconds-of-fame story — yelling a deep-cut sketch line to Murphy at a 1985 stand-up show and getting singled out from the stage. They pivot to the Seahawks' 30–24 "no-win" win in Nashville, weighing how worried to be about letting a 30–10 lead shrink, while marveling at Jaxon Smith-Njigba's obscene pace (already breaking the single-season franchise yardage mark in 11 games) and explaining why Rams-Bucs, common opponents, and divisional records mean Seattle may need both a win over the 49ers and help from the lowly Cardinals to take the NFC West. Steve Phillips joins Mitch to unpack Seattle's near–World Series run — from Julio Rodríguez's late-season surge to the Game 7 choices that doomed the Mariners, including pulling George Kirby too early and avoiding Andrés Muñoz in the highest-leverage spot. He explains why modern analytics can mislead managers, why Aaron Judge rightfully edged Cal Raleigh for MVP despite East Coast conspiracy theories, and why extending Josh Naylor was the right call even if the back-end years sting. Brady and Jacson join Mitch to break down Seattle's 30–24 win over the Titans — a game that was far closer than it should've been against the NFL's worst roster. They dissect the defensive lapses (two long late TD drives, missed tackles, fatigue), Sam Darnold's clean but risky performance (a couple near-picks, heavy JSN dependence), and a quietly emerging run game anchored by Walker and Charbonnet. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to reset the entire college football landscape heading into rivalry week — from Washington's shot at a season-defining upset over Oregon to the seismic consequences of an eight-win finish versus nine. He breaks down the transfer-portal era attrition at programs like UCLA, the SEC's multi-team playoff math (with Alabama's "brand advantage"), and why chaos in Austin, Baton Rouge, and Oxford could reshape the playoff bracket if Lane Kiffin jumps jobs before December 3rd. My guest today is Demi Adejuyigbe. One of the things that makes Demi so special is how hard it is to summarize him in an intro like this, because he has so many talents and applies them in so many different ways. He is a standup comedian, with a brand new one-hour special out on Dropout TV. He co-hosted the podcasts Gilmore Guys and Punch Up the Jam. He's a screenwriter, who wrote on TV shows like The Good Place. He's famous on the internet for his parody songs, spoofing artists like Will Smith and Lana Del Rey; and for his September videos, where, for years, he made increasingly elaborate videos of himself, dancing to the Earth, Wind & Fire song. And he used the popularity of those videos to raise over a million dollars for charity. He's also directed several music videos, including one that he made for one of my songs, back in 2022. And for this episode, we're talking as much about a music video as the song within it. And that song is "You Only Live Once" by The Strokes.Demi's new special, Demi Adejuyigbe is Going to do One (1) Backflip, is on Dropout TV. For more info, visit songexploder.net/demi-adejuyigbe.

Smith lauds manager Dave Roberts and marvels at Shohei Ohtani's singular greatness and Clayton Kershaw's legendary competitiveness. A long-standing show topic/controversy is finally put to rest as Robert De Niro returned a signed version of Rich's ‘Goodfellas' poster after the late Ray Liotta pointed out years ago that the original cast member signatures on it were fakes. In this episode of the Underground Lounge, Lou and Spank sit down with comedy legend Alex Thomas for a conversation that feels like a masterclass in culture, comedy, and survival. Alex takes the guys back to his childhood in South Central Los Angeles, where he was bused 40 minutes each day to become the first Black student at an elite Beverly Hills private school, an experience that shaped both his identity and his sense of humor. He talks about being raised by two supportive parents who kept him too busy for the streets, the reality of growing up surrounded by violence, and how staying active in sports, music, and after-school programs helped him avoid the fate of so many childhood friends. The conversation shifts into his early dance career, including how he became a breakout talent on Soul Train, his relationship with Rosie Perez, and the pivotal moment when the Wayans family encouraged him to try stand-up.Alex breaks down the unbelievable week where he bombed a major dance audition, got rained on with $60,000 in cash by Damon Wayans, booked his first-ever Hollywood audition, and accidentally landed one of the most iconic McDonald's commercials of the '90s.The episode goes even deeper when Alex talks about eventually writing for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, how Will Smith discovered him on stage at the Laugh Factory, and what it was like to be the only non-Philly member of a creative team that turned into a brotherhood.Throughout the conversation, the guys touch on parenthood, the differences between public and private school, keeping kids safe in today's world, and what it means to break generational cycles. Packed with laughs, real-life gems, hip-hop history, comedy stories, and authentic Underground Lounge energy, this episode is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good origin story rooted in hustle, culture, and heart.

This week's guest is U.S. Chess Hall of Famer GM Maurice Ashley. Maurice will forever be known as the first African American to earn the Grandmaster title, yet he has gone on to build a varied and distinguished career across all facets of the game. He is a popular author and highly regarded Chessable creator, a teacher, an organizer, and a frequent commentator for major chess events, often from the St. Louis Chess Club. Ryan is out of town this week so Jace and Denali take control of the train and drive it straight to WILD WILD WEST (1999)! Once touted as the most expensive film ever made, WWW stars Will Smith and Kevin Kline as special agents charged with thwarting a plot to assassinate the president in a post-civil war steam-punk America. This movie also happens to be one of the biggest box office flops of all time, so 2/3 of the GBGBs decided to have another look at this thing to see if it deserves a second chance (it doesn't). Thanks for stopping by!
San Jose Sharks legend Dan Boyle, insider Sheng Peng, prospects guru Keegan McNally, and Sharks Ice beer league champ Zubair Jeewanjee talk about the resurgent Sharks. How good are the San Jose Sharks though, really? We discuss their much-maligned defense, from John Klingberg to Shakir Mukhamadullin. Kevin Woodley, NHL.com and InGoal Magazine goalie guru, jumps on to discuss Yaroslav Askarov's improved play. He shares his thoughts about the specifics of why the young San Jose Sharks goalie has been so good in November. He also talks about the underrated Alex Nedeljkovic. We also debate who's the San Jose Sharks' second-best forward, William Eklund or Will Smith. Also, why did the Sharks call up Zack Ostapchuk over the likes of Quentin Musty, Igor Chernyshov, and company? Speaking of Chernyshov, Keegan focuses on the Russian's strengths and weaknesses in his prospects focus. He also discusses perhaps the top 2026 Draft power forward, Ethan Belchetz, who has a cool Michael Misa connection. Sponsored by Bring Hockey Back. Custom jerseys, hockey gear & tees for every fan. From a doomed Arnold Schwarzenegger/Ridley Scott collaboration to Will Smith's blockbuster hit, the journey of I Am Legend to the screen is as dramatic as the apocalypse it depicts. Three wildly different film adaptations, a legendary unmade version; this story of humanity's end keeps haunting Hollywood. This is not the first adaptation of Richard Matheson's book I Am Legend. Vincent Price battled zombie-vampires in 1964's stark black-and-white thriller The Last Man on Earth. Charlton Heston faced off against intelligent albino mutants called "the Family" in 1971's, The Omega Man. Each adaptation changed the creatures, the cause of the apocalypse, and crucially, gave audiences hope where the book offered none. With only 16 weeks of prep time, the Will Smith/Francis Lawrence version, this time named I Am Legend, spent years in development hell, and quickly went from a 40-page outline to a greenlit blockbuster, and to say it was chaotic is an understatement. Whole New York City blocks were closed off for filming, and one scene on the Brooklyn Bridge cost $5 million for just six nights of filming. One week into filming, director Francis Lawrence panicked and switched from practical makeup effects to CGI, extending post-production and inflating the budget. The team was still seeing finished visual effects shots just one month before the film's release, leading to last-minute reshoots to adjust the controversial ending.I Am Legend offers a unique blend of action and deep emotional storytelling, highlighting human isolation and the struggle for survival, with one of the bestest canine companions in film. Will Smith's performance as Dr. Robert Neville is both captivating and heartbreaking, showcasing his character's descent into loneliness, and the eerie depiction of an empty New York City resonates deeply in today's world, reflecting on themes of loss and solitude in a pandemic context. The Amalgamated Dynamics Ridley Scott version makeup tests are hereI would love to hear your thoughts on I Am Legend (2007) !Verbal Diorama is now an award-winning podcast!
