“LIKE NEVER BEFORE” is my song in response to all the chaos, confusion, shouting and fighting that currently pervades our country and the world. Our discourse and communication is harsh or nonexistent. Our respect for one another and for our laws and institutions is at an all time low. I wrote and released this song a year ago when I thought that our country was at a low ebb. But we've sunk even further now. The song's refrain sums up my message: “We Need Each Other Right Now Like Never Before”. Denny Sarokin was an original member of Every Mother's Son, the band that had a hit in 1967 with "Come On Down To My Boat Baby" which reached #6 on the charts. He went on to become the band leader for Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band. Bert Berns and Nat Weiss are two giants of the music industry, yet both relatively unknown to the public. Bert Berns was one of the foremost songwriters and producers of pop and rhythm and blues in the ‘60s. His hits include “Twist And Shout”, which The Beatles took to international fame, “Piece Of My Heart”, Janis Joplin's gigantic hit, “Hang On Sloopy”, the mega-hit for The McCoys, “Cry To Me”, a hit for Solomon Burke and later for The Rolling Stones, and “Tell Him”, a great early ‘60s song for the Exciters. His producer credits include “Brown Eyed Girl”, Van Morrison's first smash hit, "Under The Boardwalk" by The Drifters, and "Cherry Cherry" by Neil Diamond. Nat Weiss was a lawyer by training. He became the U.S. business partner of Brian Epstein, the manager of The Beatles, and was Brian's right hand man for the band in America, including sorting out all the merchandising opportunities coming their way. Nat parlayed this relationship into one where he would suggest artists for Brian to manage, including The Cyrkle. Henry Gross is a hit singer-songwriter. He was a founding member of Sha Na Na, the extraordinarily successful 1950s cover band. He had a huge solo hit in 1976 with “Shannon”. He's written songs like "In My Own Sweet Time" and “Waltz Of The Toreadors” as part of his long and successful solo career. As a session musician he played guitar on Jim Croce's breakthrough album “I've Got A Name”, and on albums by Judy Collins and Andy Kim. His songs have been recorded by Mary Travers, Cyndi Lauper, Jonathan Edwards and others. Jimi Hendrix is one of the most iconic figures in all of rock music and was a hero to Robert and millions of people. So when Robert recorded his debut album "Miles Behind" in 1994 he decided to include a cover of one of Jimi's songs. He chose to reimagine a “psychedelic jazz” version of Hendrix's classic “Fire”. It features Al Foster from Miles Davis' band on drums plus the amazing Ada Dyer on vocals. Twenty five years later, with his band, Project Grand Slam, Robert decided to re-record “Fire” but in a different style. This new, reimagined version of the song became the band's closing number in concert. This episode features a bit of both versions of “Fire” - the studio version from 1994, and a “live” concert version from 2018 from the “It's Alive!” album, featuring the wonderful Ziarra Washington on vocals. The band had a special relationship with The Beatles - they were managed by Brian Epstein, got the unique spelling of their name from John Lennon, and opened for The Beatles on their 1966 U.S. tour including their last live stadium concert appearance at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Ron Carter is the Maestro, the world's most renowned bassist. He's the most recorded bassist in jazz history and a 3x Grammy winner. He's played with everyone from Cannonball Adderley to Thelonious Monk to Roberta Flack and of course with Miles Davis. This is an Encore Presentation of my interview with Gilbert O'Sullivan, the International Superstar who burst upon the musical scene in 1972 with his massive hit “Alone Again (Naturally)” which occupied the #1 spot in the U.S. for six weeks and was nominated for two GRAMMYS. He followed this up with two more huge hits, “Clair” and “Get Down”. In a thoughtful, sensitive and introspective interview, Gilbert talks about songwriting, the music business, the influence of The Beatles, Dylan, Stephen Foster and Irving Berlin on his music, and his relationship with his manager Gordon Mills and Gordon's daughter Clair. Malcolm Bruce is the son of Jack Bruce of Cream, the world's first Supergroup consisting of Jack together with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. They changed the face of rock music completely when they exploded onto the scene in 1966. Jack was one of the greatest singers, songwriters, bassists and cellists of the rock era. Malcolm - a great musician in his own right - is now behind the release of “Heavenly Cream: An Acoustic Tribute To Cream”. It's a new album with new versions of so many of the iconic songs by Jack and that great band. This episode celebrates the World Premiere of my new EP called “The Singles Project”, featuring five of my new songs.I'm pleased to say that the recording has received wonderful reviews. It's been called “Amazing!” (Top Buzz Magazine), “Magical...A  Sonic Tour De Force!” (IndiePulse Music), “Fabulously Enticing!” (Pop Icon Magazine), and a “Home run!” (Hollywood Digest).In this episode I'm going to introduce the first two songs, “Like Never Before” and "Saturday Morning". “Like Never Before” is a song about the darker reality of our world today. It couldn't be more timely. It's a commentary on the hostility, divisiveness, and lack of civility and compassion that seems to exist everywhere. The refrain  states my message: “We need each other right now like never before.” Hollywood Digest calls the song “Stunning!”“Saturday Morning” is the total opposite of the first song. It's a happy, upbeat, feel good song about the everyday events in our lives that bring us joy. I just thought we all needed something like that at this time.
