U.S. states such as Vermont and Massachusetts are cutting thousands of acres of forest for solar power projects, despite the fact that this harms biodiversity and degrades ecosystems' carbon sequestration capacity. Journalist and author Judith Schwartz joins the Mongabay Newscast to speak with co-host Mike DiGirolamo about the seeming irony of cutting forests for renewable energy, and why she says states like hers are 'missing the plot' on climate action: she lives near a forest in southwestern Vermont where a company has proposed an 85-acre project that would export its electricity 100 miles south, to customers in Connecticut. A recent report found that such deforestation in nearby Massachusetts is unnecessary to meet that state's clean energy commitments, and would be better achieved by using already developed land like rooftops and parking lots, instead of farms or forests. Yet the acreage lost to solar energy projects in Massachusetts since 2010 has already released the equivalent of the annual emissions of more than 100,000 cars. International Men's dayTRIGGER AlertHave people around you celebrated you as a man this weekend ?I find it very very very interesting how we as a society still struggle with masculinity. Do we confuse masculinity with poor leadership ?? Full on toxic behaviour has nothing to do with masculinity but has everything to do with blindly continuing to follow outdated leadership skills.Trust me in recent years I saw many women in leadership positions with outrageous, toxic behaviours and then society expects me to be grateful that ladies finally made it into CEO/ Leading positions, F*** NO !!!I genuinely don't care who is leading a country, hosting an event, teaching a workshop etc. if that person is leading from a place of compassion, love, integrity I'm in. But I'm not blindly going to celebrate a women in power if she suppresses other women and verbally mistreats my brothers. The day I realized how sick my relationship with men is and how much damage I had brought to my relationships because I still had not healed from trauma involving men (I was still filled with rage and hostility) was an extremely scary day..So funny how I kept trying to be in relationship with men but hadn't done any work on releasing anger, pain and disappointment. . . We talk lots about toxic masculinity, can we see the very positive and healing traits of masculinity as well ? YES, call people out on their BS YES, set boundaries.YES, speak up when you feel treated poorly AND at the same timeSee the brother, healer, father, protector, nurturer in your community and celebrate him.I want to ask this:How is a mother who is still angry, hurt, disappointed in men going to raise a healthy/ empowered boy/man ?How is a mother who is still resentful towards men and fearful going to raise a daughter that is confident and loving towards men ?I strongly belief that if we CAN NOT celebrate each other we will not be able to move forward as a society and stay stuck in a very hostile and fragile world.Join me this week for a couple minutes of intentional togethernesswith love and much respectAuroraI'm very excited to guide you closer to your real, authentic self. Ending Human Trafficking Through Increasing Community Awareness & Prevention Education (CAPE) Organization: Rotary Action Group Against Slavery Every leader has a network they have built over their lifetime. I firmly believe God is calling His church to end human trafficking by mobilizing them where they are to learn more about human trafficking and help elevate Community Awareness and activate the networks God has given them to help implement Prevention Education thereby starting a CAPE plan for their community. This is done through leveraging networks, creating stakeholder partnerships, and helping them achieve their mission. I see this happening through churches and community organizations such as Rotary International. With an estimated

Episode 3 is an introduction to the response of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes to COVID-19, in a conversation with chairwoman Shelly Fyant (Séliš) and lead planner Velda Shelby (Ktunaxa). The two women explain the philosophy and approach the confederated tribes took in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, and how it affected citizens of the CSKT. The conversation builds awareness of the exceptional severity in which the pandemic, and others historically, have brought to Indigenous people in Big Sky Country -- and how important it is to protect not only the people but lands and culture in their homelands in times of disaster. In our fourth episode, Shelly Fyant (Séliš), chairwoman of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, and lead planner Velda Shelby (Ktunaxa) dive deeper into their experiences and concerns serving their Tribal Nation during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. They share where they found strength and guidance and highlight the power of unity and supporting one another to get through uncharted waters, how strength can be found in honoring what ancestors endured, and the role of gratitude for the resources and collaboration that got their members and region through the pandemic. The strength, leadership, and encouragement these ladies bring in this episode is remarkable, and we hope this two-part episode will be cherished by listeners as a historical moment in time where a Tribal Nation creatively worked together to end a pandemic under the Big Sky. Two long-time friends reminisce over their first retreats where their abortion healing journey began, as well as what God has done in their lives since then to today, where God is bringing them together in partnership to bring healing to the cities. Carissa Hodges, Executive Director of Janesville Pregnancy Helpline, and Donna Brendel, Executive Director of twentyTHREE61, Inc. each lead Rachel's Vineyard Retreats, along with their retreat teams. In order to reach more people, especially black and Hispanic women and men in the cities, they have combined their retreat dates and retreat teams in order to have a bigger voice and a greater reach. Not many people know that healing from the emotional and spiritual impact of abortion is available. And we want to change that. Not only that, but once folks do learn about the healing that's available, the next hurdle is helping them take courage to come forward to ask for the help. Most people have never told anyone about their abortion, so to consider telling complete strangers that you need help to heal is terrifying. We know this firsthand, as we've both been in that exact situation. But we are both so thankful to have been carried through that fear and make it to our first retreats, and now it's our passion to make this possible for other women and men, especially now in the cities. Here is the retreat schedule, click here to learn more and to register: February 19-21, 2021 March 19-21, 2021 May 14-16, 2021 (for Spanish speakers) September 17-19, 2021 November 5-7, 2021 If you need a scholarship and/or travel assistance, please email donnajane2361@gmail.com. Look out when two sisters in the Lord have some precious spare time to chat! This is a long episode jam-packed with a wide range of important topics. Help us spread the good news! Please share after you listen. Darlene wanted to go through healing again, even though she'd been through a similar but different type of healing 10-15 years prior. But now she wanted to prepare to offer help and hope to other hurting women. Not surprisingly, she was blessed with additional healing of her own, as God always has more blessings for us each step of the way as we faithfully follow His leading. She courageously shares her story and this new blessing with us in this interview as well as why she has joined our team, and why she's so passionate about helping others not only heal but become transformed in the process as she has experienced. We give glory to God for her courage and for the work He's done in her life. Trigger warning - - - this episode discusses traumatic experiences that may trigger difficult emotions. Please listen with a friend or support person if you know you might struggle. About Derrick, "For me, fitness is not just about hitting the gym; it is also about an inner happiness and an overall well-being." ~ Rakul Preet Singh ~ In high school, I wasn't physically active. I remember being in the gym, forcing and trying to motivate myself to be more active. The motivation was just not there at the time. As I got older, I constantly worked harder to be physically active and motivated myself to be more proactive. It was hard for me to understand why the passion for being physically active was not there during my youth. I was raised around people that were physically active. My mother was a nurse in the military during the Vietnam War. She stressed the importance of healthy living and exercise. My uncle, Jackson "Rock" Pinckney, who was my biggest role model, was extremely physically active. He was a U.S. Army Veteran (Ret), medically retired law enforcement officer, fitness trainer and national bodybuilding champion, author and actor. My uncle also won several bodybuilding competitions and held the title of Mr. Fayetteville through the National Physique Committee, and the NPC Middle and Light Heavy Division Championship I attribute my passion for physical fitness to him. Before his death, he was helping me reach and achieve my fitness goals. After my oldest daughter was born, I made the decision to join the United States Army. I worked in combat. Being a soldier in the U.S. Army somewhat forced me to become more active because there really wasn't anything else to keep me entertained. It also helped me cope with the stressors of life. In 2005, I became a little more serious about physical fitness and strength training. I started trying different strength and conditioning techniques to help improve my overall strength, power, and endurance. During this time, I was stationed in Iraq. While completing an 18 month tour in Iraq I was seriously injured during a suicide bomber attack. The injuries I sustained left me physically and mentally scarred. I was diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury(TBI) and PTSD Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. It took me a while to heal but I eventually realized that I was responsible for my own well-being and happiness. Physical fitness and strength training became my coping mechanism. This is what eventually led me to opening up my first Sport and Nutrition Online store called Genetic Push Supplements. My motivation for the online store diminished and I decided to close it after the first year. In 2016, I reopened the company under a new name, Warrior Genetics Lab. I came back motivated, stronger, and more attentive. My dreams for this company was much bigger. I plan to work harder to make sure this company develops and grows to its fullest potential. I want this company to be a success. Currently, the company is flourishing. It has twelve athletes represent my brand. We have started competing competitively in different states. my company also now have two sponsors; Community Awareness and Youth Boxing. Warrior Genetics Lab have given to numerous charities and so far has done one fundraiser for Veterans. There are numerous fundraisers in the works. One will be coming up this spring to support veterans.
