Dr. Turner's interest in nutrition stemmed from her original interest in Gastroenterology. Looking back, she felt there was a lack of nutrition education in her medical training, which she only realized once she began to pursue her PhD in nutrition. She notes there are too few physicians with PhDs in nutrition. Dr. Turner spends 40% of her time on research and 35% on clinical practice. Currently, she runs a translational animal lab looking at growth factors for adaptation, TPN lipids, and enteral nutrition in short bowel syndrome. In her clinical practice, Dr. Turner deals mostly with Celiac disease and gluten free diet while her inpatient service looks after solid organ and intestinal transplant patients. She highlights that nutrition is integrated in everything that she does. She also shares her insights on the differences between the delivery of healthcare in Australia and Canada and how each were affected during the Covid-19 pandemic. She insists that there is no better home for her interests than ASPEN. It has provided her with incredible opportunities to collaborate, present her data, and receive recognition for her work. Adrian Jones is the CEO of Zip World UK, a company that specializes in creating unique and thrilling adventures. From the world's fastest zipline to underground mini-golf, Ade is an expert in taking experiences to the next level. Ade began his career working the frontlines at Alton Towers. This began a career with Merlin Entertainments spanning nearly three decades, where he served as General Manager of Madam Tussauds in Las Vegas and Los Angelos, opened LEGOLAND Florida as General Manager in 2011, before being promoted to President & Divisional Director of Midway Attractions in North America, and then Global New Concepts Development Director.. Recently, he became the CEO of Zip World, where he continues to innovate and create new, exciting experiences for guests. In this interview, Ade shares his insights on adventure tourism, the importance of giving people the freedom to succeed, and building strong relationships with local communities.   Adventure Tourism   "The adventure market is growing massively."   Adventure tourism gives guests the opportunity to experience some of the most unique things our world has to offer. When Ade started with Zip World, he was impressed with how positive the reviews were and how engaged guests were with the facilities. By providing a wide range of attractions for the entire family and creating a great guest experience, Zip World captures the attention of their guests.   Ultimately, the attractions industry is about selling fun, something Ade fell in love with when he got his start. One of the best ways to sell fun is to create a facility that can't be replicated virtually. For instance, the caverns at Zip World contain 200 years of formations, and the personal interactions with employees can't be replicated in the digital space.   Freedom to Succeed   "If someone is frightened to fail, they won't take any risks."   Another key to the success of Zip World is the employee culture. Ade knows that the ‘People Agenda' is a huge priority when it comes to building a successful culture. To take employees to the next level, Ade emphasizes the importance of creating the freedom to succeed. By implementing this culture, employees get the chance to build who they are and help create a dynamic business.   Mistakes build who we are, and by creating a freedom to succeed, we also create the freedom to fail. Failure is important, and everyone can learn from their mistakes. Ade knows that by failing, we can become stronger in the places we were broken before, which is something that could benefit any operation.    Community Relations   “We were very sympathetic; we listened.”   One of Ade's greatest challenges was leading the development of LEGOLAND Florida while simultaneously creating a great relationship with the Winter Haven community. By holding town halls and being open to feedback from the locals, Winter Haven is now proud to have LEGOLAND Florida as a staple in their community.    Ade's most valuable lessons were about the importance of following through on your promises and the impact of small gestures. When working with homeowners and existing communities, it's crucial to be mindful and considerate. By being transparent and keeping promises, trust can be built and disasters can be avoided. These actions contribute to fostering a positive and cooperative spirit within the community. To connect with Ade, you can find him on LinkedIn. We are very happy to be speaking to Moon Civetz today! Moon is the Vice President of Global Sales for Maverick Helicopters. His kindness and consistent presence at trade shows have resulted in Moon becoming a well-known figure in our industry.  In this episode, he shares his fascinating journey and talks to us about the unique and memorable experiences he has created for his customers.  We hope you enjoy listening to our delightful conversation with Moon Civetz today! Moon Civetz's bio Beginning in Hawai'i, Moon Civetz received his MBA, Master of Beach Activities, becoming the Head Designer for a theatrical, convention, and display company. Due to his involvement in the Hawai'ian Music Renaissance period, his company, Moon Lights, was born as he designed and rented lighting, staging and labor for numerous shows. With an abundance of creativity, that company soon morphed into Moon Light & Magic, offering an array of theme parties. He caught the attention of Sheraton Hotels in Hawai'i and was recruited to become their first Divisional Director of Special Events. The position encompassed opening Neighbor Island hotels directing Convention Services and Catering Departments and putting his imagination to work creating property-specific theme parties. From the Neighbor Islands he then joined the re-opening team of the historic Sheraton Moana on Waikiki Beach creating theme parties for the incentive market. Next up, Sheraton had another project that needed creativity and strong relationships in the group, meeting and incentive markets so off he went to Tucson, Arizona as the Director of Incentive & Insurance Sales of the Sheraton El Conquistador. After putting his mark on that southwestern property, he was moved back home to the Big Island as a member of the opening team re-branding the Ritz-Carlton Mauna Lani to Starwood's Orchid at Mauna Lani. Over the course of his nearly five years at The Orchid, he created signature theme parties, setting sales records and winning corporate and individual awards for meetings and incentives. Being well-known throughout the Islands, a new challenge presented itself: he was recruited by the General Manager of the Hyatt Kaua'i to help him open the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas as the Director of Incentive and Insurance Sales. So, back to the mainland he went as part of that opening team. After a year of hard hat tours the property opened and became the number one hotel for sales in the Hyatt Corporation. He went on to open Station Casino's first luxury hotel, Green Valley Ranch Resort, applying his creativity and utilizing his strong relationships to help establish that casino property in the meeting & incentive market. His reputation in Hawai'i followed him to Las Vegas where he became well known in the local hospitality community. He was next approached by a DMC company joining them as VP and General Manager. Today, he is Vice President of Global Group Sales for Maverick Helicopters. Still working his innovative magic, you can find him in the Las Vegas Corporate office planning events in the Grand Canyon or creating wonderful memories on Maui and Kaua'i. Moon's background While living in the Hawaiian Islands, Moon became the head designer for a theme party production company that expanded as the convention industry grew in the Hawaiian Islands. Moon branched off and started a lighting company called Moon Lights, which morphed into a party company called Moonlight Magic that did lighting and parties for incentive groups. He did the lighting for some rock ‘n roll bands and had a lot of fun doing the lighting for some Hawaiian groups that came to be quite well-known.  Shared Hotels He was asked to join Shared Hotels in Hawaii and became their Director of Special Events. He opened hotels on the outer islands and created themed events specifically for each destination.  A party booklet Moon put together a booklet called SPLSH (Spectacular Parties Live at Shared in Hawaii) for incentive houses and people looking for things to do that contained information about the parties at each hotel.  Plantation Gardens One of the hotels that he got going in Hawaii had an unused grass area behind it, so he suggested turning it into a plantation. That became the Plantation Gardens. Maverick Helicopters After moving to Las Vegas and opening several hotels, someone from Maverick asked Moon if he knew of anyone to help them out. Moon offered to help and ended up creating a group department for Maverick. It started with Moon and two salespeople, and it kept on growing until it became Maverick Aviation Group. Since COVID, however, they scaled back and became Maverick Helicopters.  CITE Moon joined CITE more than thirty years ago and has enjoyed watching it grow. He feels that it is one of the best organizations he has ever been part of. The luckiest guy in the world When Moon sees the smiles on people's faces after they return from an experience he created, he feels like the luckiest guy in the world! Grand Canyon Moon organized a unique experience where they flew people in a helicopter to an isolated landing site at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. After landing, they served lunch. There was no road leading to the landing site, so all the chairs and tables they used were specially constructed to fit into a helicopter. They even flew in a portable toilet for the guests to use. Las Vegas Motor Speedway Maverick is the only helicopter company allowed to fly into the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, so they fly there for the races. They also do a tour of the Grand Canyon, where they stop to allow the guests to do some fast laps on the track with one of the companies that offer that. Heliyoga They have an experience called Heliyoga, where they land on the highest peak on the Valley of Fire and do a yoga class followed by a glass of Champagne. Up there, it is very beautiful and quiet. Red Rock Canyon  They have added a new excursion, where they fly over Red Rock Canyon and land on a private landing zone to watch the sun go down and see the city lights come on. Then, they fly along the length of the Strip. The safest Maverick is the world's safest helicopter company. Making people happy Moon is always looking to create new experiences that will make people happy because he enjoys that the most! One-on-one meetings Moon believes that one-on-one meetings will never change, even though technology will keep on increasing.  IMEX Moon feels excited about the upcoming IMEX conference and having the opportunity to reconnect with his old friends. Landing safely Most people do not realize that when the power goes down in a helicopter, it can still hover down and land safely. Hawaii Maverick opened in Hawaii five years ago. They offer some unique and beautiful experiences there! Connect with Eric On LinkedIn On Facebook On Instagram On Website Connect with Moon Civetz On LinkedIn

Have you ever wondered what it is like to sleep outside through the coldest night of the year? Or how you can help to fight homelessness? The latest episode of People Who Make Hospitality Podcast is about how we, as an organisation, are joining forces with an incredible charity Social Bite to help fight homelessness.  This time we are joined by Josh Littlejohn and David Gallacher. Josh is one of the world's leading social entrepreneurs and campaigners. He is a founder of the Social Bite, which is both a charity and social enterprise, who have in recent years run some national and global campaigns that have shifted the cultural dial on homelessness and pioneered some ground-breaking social impact projects. In Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=William_Younghusband&oldid=941797985   Transcript: Hello, and welcome to another episode of Crimes & Witch-Demeanors!  The paranormal podcast where we go beyond rehashing wikipedia pages and delve into archival and historic resources to uncover the truth behind our favorite spooky tales.  I'm your host and sardonic librarian, Joshua Spellman. N Today's episode has been inspired by recent personal events dealing with hospitals and nurses and the title is of course inspired by Willam.  If you know, you know, if you don't, you don't.  And that's fine, some of us have our own little club.   Today's topic took me on quite the journey (as good research often tends to do): you begin one place and think you know where you're going to land but you wind up in an entirely unintended location.  And in this case — that's fine!  I mean, that's how the scientific process works.  Never try and prove your own hypothesis, be your own worst enemy — like I am in my love life.   But today I went from researching phenomenon spanning continents to zeroing in on the homes and hospitals of the beautiful coastal capital of South Australia—Adelaide,.  Not a bad place to end up, if you ask me!   So settle in, buckle up, we've got a long flight ahead. ____   “Alright, you've got this” Cassie said to herself in the mirror, splashing water on her face. This was her first night on the job as an evening nurse in a new facility — and through a series of unfortunate events — she was the only one on staff.  Something like this wouldn't happen back in the city, but things are different when you're in a small town…as Cassie would soon find out.   Making her way back out to the nurses station, Cassie paused to look around.  The hubbub and bustling activity of the day had all but faded away.  By this time, most of the patients were already asleep in their beds, leaving Cassie feeling unnaturally alone.  The place felt almost abandoned.  Even the smallest of sounds: a patient's distant cough, the water dripping from the leaky faucet, her footsteps on the ground, bounced and echoed through the tiled halls; rising and falling in a cacophony of silence.   BZZT!   Cassie nearly jumped out of her skin.  It was only the call button of a patient requiring assistance.  She made her way over to the patient's room “Hi there, I'm Cassie, the new evening nurse, what seems to be the matter” she glanced at the patient's chart “Miss Roebel?”    “Oh please dear, call me Trish” the old woman replied “I have the bladder of a small old lady despite being a spry young thing of 79” she chuckled “if you could please help me on over to the lavatory”   “Oh, of course!” Cassie replied, rushing to Trish's bedside to help her up.  She walked Trish over to the bathroom and onto the toilet.  BZZT!  Another patient needing assistance.  “Do you mind if I go and help them?  It can give you your privacy” Cassie asked.   “Oh, of course!” Trish replied.   “But don't try any funny business and try and get back to bed on your own” Cassie warned, mockingly wagging her finger at Trish.   “Aye, aye captain!” Trish retorted as Cassie made her way to assist the other patient.   He was an older gentleman who, while trying to get comfortable in bed, had accidentally ripped out his IV.  Cassie was still a little nervous and being new, it took her minute to locate the sterile needles.  After successfully administering the IV, which took a little longer than expected since the man was afraid of needles, Cassie rushed back over to Trish's room.   And that's when she found Trish…tucked neatly into bed, ready for sleep.  “Trish…” Cassie started, “I told you to wait for me so I could help you into bed.  You could have fallen!” “Oh…but I didn't!” Trish exclaimed, “the other nurse came in and helped me”   Confused, Cassie asked with skepticism “The other nurse?”   “The one in the grey uniform, with the hat”   “Ah, yes.  Of course” Cassie replied, not wanting to alarm the old woman “Goodnight Trish” she said as she turned off her light.   As Cassie made her way back into the hall, the phone at the nurse's station began to ring.  She rushed over to answer, “Hello, Valley County medical center, Cassie speaking”   “Oh, hi Cassie!  This is Frida, the day nurse, I just wanted to check in and make sure everything is going alright before I headed to sleep, my apologies that we're so short staffed”   “Oh, hello Frida!  Yes, yes, everything is going alright…but did you happen to have someone else come in to help work my shift?  I just came back from a patient who-“   Frida cut her off, “Oh…so you've already seen her then?”   “Seen…who?”   “Oh, never mind.” Said Frida, “Just something silly.  Anyways, have a good night, please call if anything urgent comes up”   “Of course, thanks for checking in.  Goodnight!” Cassie said, hanging up the phone.  What was she on about?  But Cassie didn't have time to mull it over as she heard the echo of shuffling of feet.  Another patient out of bed?    Cassie got up from the nurses station and peered around the corner.  There was someone at the end of the long hall.  Cassie squinted to see clearer in the dim light, was that Trish?  “Trish!” Cassie scolded, walking closer “I told you not to get out of bed on your own”   As she made her way closer to the figure she realized it was a nurse.  She was dressed in grey from head to toe, with a funny old-fashioned hat.  The nurse nodded to Cassie with a wry smile and winked as she tilted her cap.  Then, suddenly the woman turned on her heel, walked straight into the adjoining wall and vanished.   ___   Stories like Cassie's are not unfamiliar to nurses — regardless of culture or region.  Benign nurse figures are often seen roaming hospitals across the world and are referred to as Grey Nurses or Grey ladies because of the color of their uniforms.    Are these apparitions the spirits of departed healthcare workers who loved their jobs so much in life that they carry on in death? Which I find hard to believe…while there are many great nurses out there on the front lines saving us from the pandemic I immediately think of all my high school bullies who can barely spell catheter let alone insert one who are now probably all angels of death…   Which is actually a great segway while throwing some subtle shade at former cheerleaders—maybe grey nurses are not ghosts at all but instead are inhuman spirits taking on a familiar form, who seek to comfort and care for our sick and dying.  I guess that's literally the definition an angel?  Well, not the kind that are concentric spinning rings of fire with seventeen glowing eyes that are so horrifying that gazing upon them them will wreck your feeble human mind…you know like kind of angels in the Bible.  But you know, grey nurses are like the hallmark, Touched By an Angel type that Christians believe in despite their holy book describing them as horrific creatures.   But I digress.    While we may not have all the answers to these questions, we can surely try and answer them.   Despite being a worldwide paranormal phenomenon, my research kept circling back to hospitals in one city: Adelaide.  Specifically, the former Adelaide Royal Hospital, now known as Lot Fourteen and Austin Hospital.   Unlike the Windsor Hotel from last week, Austin Hospital has an entire webpage devoted to stories from staff about their ghostly grey nurse.   This following story is from their former Divisional Director of Cancer and Neurosciences, Cherie Cheshire…which, by the way, is an amazingly alliterative name.  If you're looking to name a character in a book you're writing I suggest you snatch that name up before somebody else takes it!  Anyway, here is her story:   “We were supposed to be three nurses on night shift, but we were short staffed and only had two. One patient named Carol had complete paralysis due to MS. She could not take a drink of water herself however suffered from terrible dry mouth. So, the nursing staff attended to her at least hourly to help her sip some water, even overnight. On this shift we were flat out. At around 9.30pm I filled Carol's one litre jug with iced water and gave her a drink. It then got very busy and I didn't manage to go back to her room until midnight. When I did, she only had half a jug of water. She told me the other nurse had been in several times and helped her drink. I knew this wasn't right however checked with the other nurse who said she had not been in the room. When I asked Carol about who helped her with her water again, she said it was the older agency nurse in the old-fashioned grey dress…”   This next story from the former director of Nursing and former ICU Unit Manager, Jen Hancock, served as the inspiration to the narrative portion of today's episode:   “While working nights on the old 6A in Heidelberg House, the buzzer rang and a lady needed a pan. I took it to her and asked her to buzz when finished. Ten minutes later, there was no buzz, so l went to check. She was lying down in bed half asleep, curtains pulled back. She told me that the other nurse in the grey uniform with a veil had taken it and made her comfortable. I was working with a male Enrolled Nurse. I asked the Registered Nurse who was between the three wards in Heidelberg House, if she knew anyone in a different uniform. She didn't. I was later told it was a common occurrence in Heidelberg House and that patients had often described the grey nurse.”   Other nurses reported ghostly occurrences like floating utensils, a hallways that is always ice cold at night, and seeing the grey nurse turn a corner and disappear.   The former Royal Adelaide Hospital, which I believe has been converted or demolished in favor of residential and commercial space, also had tales of the Grey nurse.    I tried to do some digging, but there isn't much to go on with these stories: no name, no cause of death, no era, no nothing.   However, I did manage to dig up an old newspaper article about a ghost story that has been circulating for at least a century and a half: the Grey Lady of Adelaide.  This specter is known as the first ghost of Adelaide…which is a little Eurocentric considering there were probably many Aboriginal ghosts prior to the colonization of the area but I digress… the color association here is interesting. Could this Grey Lady and the grey nurses be one in the same?   The ghost of the Grey Lady was said to haunt Younghusband Mansion.  I was curious where this mansion was located — was it in the vicinity of one of these hospitals?  Or perhaps it was demolished and one of the aforementioned hospitals built over top.   I found my answer in the October 17, 1929 issue of The Register News-Pictorial. It reads thusly:     GREY LADY OF NORTH ADELAIDE - CITY'S BEST GHOST STORY And There Was Another In A Castle WhoLeft Illicit Still Behind   ROMANTIC GHOST WHO SAT IN CELLAR SHE haunted the Younghusband mansion, this Grey Lady of North Adelaide, and in the basement each night could be seen, 60 years and less ago, sitting in her chair in her own particular cellar. Memory recalls only that much of this spirit with the romantic title, but when the Nursing Sisters of Calvary Hospital became owners of the Younghusband mansion, they closed the Grey Lady's cellar. And the Grey Lady went out of memory. The Archbishop of Adelaide (Dr. Spence), when he laid the foundation stone of a convent home for the Nursing Sisters of the Calvary Hospital, North Adelaide, revived, perhaps, Adelaide's two sole ghost stories.   He recalled that the sisters never saw the Grey Lady but the story, no doubt, added to their discomfort. The acre on which Calvary Hospital stands was first owned by Robert Gouger, the State's first Colonial Secretary. He, too, owned land near the present Gouger street, where he built his home, and there were buried his wife and child. This is the foundation of the story of the Grey Lady, it is thought. However illogical might be the idea of the North Adelaide property being haunted, the story grew, and was known up to 29 years ago, when the Nursing Sisters took over the property from the Baker family. When the old house was pulled down to give place to the present modern structure at Calvary Hospital, the story gained another lease of life.       I wanted to learn a little bit more about this mansion and it led me down…quite the path.  If you follow the podcast on instagram @crimesandwitchdemeanors then you already know where this is going.    The article wasn't very clear on whether Calvary Hospital was the mansion, replaced the mansion, or if the mansion was just used as a convent for the Nuns of Calvary Hospital.   In trying to answer these questions, I stumbled across the blog of a man named Allen Tiller.  Who, if you've seen the original Teen Titans cartoon, is a dead-ringer for the villain Control Freak.  He is quote “a historian, genealogist, author, paranormal investigator, and the 2017 emerging South Australian Historian of the Year.”   Quite the decorated man! Now, although his website looks like it was plucked straight from Xanga, awful div transparencies and all, it was useful because it led me to his book, The Haunts of Adelaide: History, Mystery, and the Paranormal REVISED EDITION.  The revised part is in all caps so you know it's important.    However, I'm grateful for his book because it includes a chapter on the Younghusband Mansion - for which there is virtually no digital resources on.  I'm just glad I have Kindle unlimited so I didn't have to pay for it.  The entire introduction read like a thread of rage-tweets lambasting the prior publisher.  Maybe not the best look, Allen.  Save it for twitter.  Not the book.  It kind of diminishes what credibility you earned.  But I'm not the 2017 Emerging South Australian Historian of the Year so you know, I should probably keep my big mouth shut.   Here's what I've gleaned for his book:   The parcel of land Younghusband mansion was built on was originally purchased tin 1837 by Robert Cock during the first land sale held in Adelaide.  Later, Cock sold the land to the first colonial secretary of South Australia: Robert Gouger.   Gouger bought the land because he was under the impression that its high elevation would help ease the pain of his ailing wife, Harriet, who was suffering from tuberculosis.  They erected  a modest wooden cabin on the land but sadly the high elevation proved to offer no health benefits and Harriet, along with her infant child, died.  Gouger buried both his wife and child on the land, though they were later moved and interred at West Terrace cemetery.   This history is what led to the story of the Grey Lady as outlined in the news article.  However, its legacy doesn't end there.  In 1842 the land was sold to Edward Stephens and then again in 1846 to William Younghusband.   William Younghusband was an Englishman who made a killing investing in the Burra Mines and his house reflected his wealth.  Younghusband Mansion at one point was once known as the finest home in Adelaide…though that may be because it was the only one of its kind in the area.  The mansion was opulent and grand: it had a ballroom, ornate gardens, secret rooms, underground tunnels, a unique iron fence, and it was outfitted head to toe in cedar.   After Younghusband's death in 1865, the house changed hands quite a few times before the the lease came to rest in the hands of Miss Isabella Baker in 1883.  Miss Baker had plans to convert the home into a private hospital but she could not do so until the owned the property herself.  It took some time, but after six years she finally convinced the remaining trustee to relinquish the property. The mansion became the living quarters of the nuns.  The two rooms facing the streets were used as bedrooms, behind them was a box room, below a large basement, and there was another room that had been sealed up. Behind the seal was a room that had not been finished during the Younghusband's occupation of the home.  It was full of construction materials, dust, and rocks.  During the time the Younghusband's stayed in the house, many people noticed the sealed up room, and because many people knew about Gouger's wife and her baby that died on the property, the legend of the Grey Lady began.  The story really took off in 1869 when a newspaper published a story about a ghost spotted sitting in a chair in the basement.  Younghusband mansion was eventually torn down and Calvary Hospital was built on the grounds.  Could the Grey Lady have become one of the grey nurses?  Or is her entity altogether separate? The former Royal Adelaide Hospital was one of the biggest hotspots of grey nurse encounters.  Allegedly, a whole floor of the building was closed due to paranormal activity in the 1980's, though no evidence of this exists.  It seems a little farfetched. As with most grey nurses, her identity was unknown but her story follows the usual pattern: she was the wife of a doctor who died on the operating table, she died in a car accident on her way to work, she was pushed down the stairs by a mental health patient, or she accidentally delivered a fatal overdose and committed suicide. The Royal Adelaide Hospital has moved to a new building and the old one was partially demolished and partially renovated and converted into shops, apartments, and the new location for the Australian Space Agency. Construction workers on the site witnessed paranormal activity.  Allegedly, a number of workers sent messages to our good friend Allen Tiller describing their encounters.  Frequently, a “person in blue” was spotted on the upper floors watching the construction staff work.  When they called security to find the person, since it's dangerous to be on an active construction site, no one was found.  This happened on numerous occasions. Now again.  My brain always goes to speedy squatters, and no I'm not talking about me the day after I have chipotle.  An abandoned building is the perfect place for someone to seek shelter with little risk of running into anyone. Regardless, the construction workers believe it to be a ghost and the blue outfit could possibly be scrubs.  I will say that oftentimes grey can appear blue in certain circumstances.  White ladies, men in black hats, and grey nurses…are they distinct spirits who choose to appear in these forms?  Or are they archetypes that have been burned into our collective subconscious?  It's safe to say we may never learn the identities of these homogenous haunts, if they are ghosts at all.  But they do make for fun stories to tell in the dark. Next week's episode is going to be my personal ghost stories and will follow a different format than usual.  Next week is my birthday week, and I'm also getting the second dose of my vaccine so I'm planning on feeling icky for a few days and would rather not have to write a few thousand words with a fever!  So if that interests you, you have something to look forward to! If you know anyone who would enjoy the show — please share it with them!  Word of mouth, and a pyramid scheme, is the best way to grow our family of bibli-ahh-graphers.  Follow the podcast's instagram for goodies, and of course, if you're listening on overcast hit that little star icon, if you're an Apple fiend, please leave a kind review! And remember, if you find yourself in a hospital…keep your eyes peeled for a grey nurse, never badmouth previous publishers in your revised edition..its' quite unbecoming…and as always, stay spooky.  Bye~

The MINDSET Study aims to improve the quality of interpreter communication in a cognitive assessment for dementia. The rationale for this work stems from research that found that interpreters were servicing increasing numbers of people with dementia but had variable experience and knowledge about dementia. This resulted in inconsistencies in interpreting which reduced the validity of cognitive assessments, diminished clinician and patient satisfaction, and overburdened health services. Subsequently, interpreters themselves recognised the need for specialist training in dementia. In this week's episode, Fatih chats with the study's chief investigator Associate Professor Bianca Brijnath from the National Ageing Research Institute, about the importance of the MINDSET study and what it aims to achieve.Website: https://www.nari.net.au/news/dementia-training-for-interpretersGuest Bio: Associate Professor Bianca Brijnath (BA Hons; PhD) is the Divisional Director of Social Gerontology at the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI). He seeks new activities shortly having had fun with a purpose.Garry has studied leaders for many years learning to retain the ‘nature’ of leadership but adapt the approach to the context; a lesson for today and COVID. Garry also offers we over-concentrate on the leader and not enough on the eco-system of leadership. This is manifesting itself in tensions around control in the current crisis, which he has experienced personally. Moreover, he feels there are linkages between what needs to occur during C-19 and the emerging impact of Artificial Intelligence on leaders and leadership. Coronavirus has turned the NHS upside down and inside out and by re-organising to treat people with the virus, other potentially fatal diseases like cancer have taken a backseat. At University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, which Inside Health visited weekly as the pandemic unfolded, cancer diagnoses fell by half in March and April and of the 50% who were asked to come in for follow up, only 25% actually did. The virus was more frightening than a potential cancer diagnosis. Divisional Director for Medicine at Southampton, Dr Trevor Smith, tells James Gallagher, the BBC's health and science correspondent. that patients are coming back, but it will take a long time to tackle the backlog. For those with cancer caught up in the pandemic, they have experienced disruption, cancellations, altered treatments and they have had to cope with consultations and even surgery by themselves, without loved ones to support them. Charly from Wiltshire was diagnosed with breast cancer in February and her treatment was changed as lockdown happened. Instead of chemotherapy then surgery, she had surgery first. And a mastectomy instead of a lumpectomy. But despite the disruption to her care, she still considers herself one of the lucky ones because she did get treatment. Others weren't so lucky and across the country, lives have been lost. The focus now is on Covid-proofing cancer care and tackling the backlog in screening, diagnosis and treatment. And it's an enormous backlog. Professor Charlie Swanton, chief clinician of Cancer Research UK tells James Gallagher, the BBC's health and science correspondent, that 2.7 million people have missed out on cervical, breast and colorectal screening and 300,000 fewer people than normal have been referred under the urgent 2 week cancer pathway. The creation of Covid-free cancer hubs, he says, safe zones for cancer treatment, are vital, but it will still take a long time to recover and of course there's the spectre of a second wave of coronavirus which would disrupt services all over again. Confidence building includes rapid Covid-19 testing for staff and Dr Trevor Smith from Southampton tells James about the saliva test pilot for key workers in the city. The new test just involves putting saliva in a sample pot, much easier than the normal "have you got it" swab test which involves wiping the back of the throat and deep inside the nose. Dr Navjoyt Ladher, GP and Head of Education at the British Medical Journal gives a simple guide to the "have you got it" tests: PCR, antigen and perhaps if the trial is a success, the new saliva test as well as the "have you had it tests"; the antibody tests. And finally in the week that in England at least, guidance for those who are "clinically vulnerable" and shielding on the advice of the government changes, Inside Health's Dr Margaret McCartney reviews the new advice for those in all four nations of the UK. Tanya has rheumatoid arthritis, a compromised immune system and heart problems. Getting the virus is a risk she cannot take and this is the tenth week that she's been isolating at home with her husband and teenage daughter. But how long will this last and will she have to self isolate in her own home away from her family for the foreseeable future, if her daughter goes back to school? Tanya talks to Claudia about the impact of the pandemic on her life and says why those in the shielding group must not be forgotten. The arrival of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in the human population has popularised vocabulary that was previously the preserve of scientists and medics. In just a matter of weeks, phrases like the R Number, Herd Immunity, Case Fatality Rate and All Cause Mortality have become part of everyday language. A new pandemic lexicon has emerged. Inside Health regular Dr Margaret McCartney and Professor Carl Heneghan, Director of the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine at the University of Oxford, discuss the meanings of these very precise descriptions and reveal their personal bugbears, the misuse of such terms. And in her final visit for this series to University Hospital Southampton, Inside Health's Erika Wright, talks again to Trevor Smith, Divisional Director for Medicine, about the enormous challenges ahead as the hospital adapts to living with Covid-19. And she talks about the Banksy art work currently hanging at the hospital which reveals a Super Nurse displacing the traditional comic book superheroes, Batman and Spiderman. Healthcare workers have been lionised as heroes, putting themselves on the front line, risking their own lives, to save others. It's a sentiment which troubles some. Dr Michael FitzPatrick, a gastroenterologist in Oxford and Co-chair of the Royal College of Physicians Trainees Committee, describes why heroes are almost entirely the wrong comparators for healthcare workers. When hospitals are full of patients, they're said to be "hot". The coronavirus crisis will push up the temperature of hospitals across the UK and in the first in a special series of weekly dispatches from the medical front line, producer Erika Wright will be taking the temperature of University Hospital Southampton - or The General - in Hampshire (which services almost two million people in the south of England) as they cope with the influx of Covid-19 patients. In this first dispatch, Erika talks to the Divisional Director for Medicine, Dr Trevor Smith, who says as patients have been moved out of this large teaching hospital to make space for coronavirus patients, the hospital's current temperature reading is "cold", but all staff know that this will soon change. This virus is deeply frightening for everybody, but often for older people and those with underlying health conditions it is even worse. The fear is that if hospitals are overflowing, then crude cut-offs by, for example, age, might determine who does or doesn't, get a a bed in intensive care. But Dr Mark Roberts, consultant in acute and geriatric medicine and chair of the British Geriatric Society in Northern Ireland, tells Claudia that health care professionals don't and wouldn't make such arbitrary decisions based on age. Instead, he says, decisions about access to intensive care beds (or in-patient care) will continue to be made at the bedside, with compassion, and with a focus on who has the greatest capacity to benefit. Some people have already decided that they won't go to hospital if NHS services are overwhelmed but they do want reassurance that they would get urgent care at home should they become seriously ill. Retired GP Dr Lyn Jenkins has written to the Prime Minister calling for this to be addressed as a priority. He's in good health, only 69 years old, but believes that he has a moral obligation not to use up scarce hospital resources if critical care beds can be given to younger people. For those who need it, he wants a quick response team to bring pain relief and supplementary oxygen and importantly, the presence of another person, a carer, so people who were very sick wouldn't be alone. GP and Inside Health regular Dr Margaret McCartney talks to Claudia about supplies of personal protective equipment and whether long-promised supplies are finally arriving and she delves into the evidence to find out whether the loss of a sense of smell or taste could be a symptom of coronavirus. Listener Rachel says she can't smell cheese, garlic or lavender oil and she's worried that she could have the virus. Producer: Fiona Hill

Hilary lives with her husband and her two small boys in West Sussex and shares her inspirational story and how she juggles a successful career with being a busy mum.Hilary talks us through her day-to-day routine; waking up at 5:30 am to see to her family, before embarking on her two-hour door-to-door commute to get into the office, where she works full-time as Divisional Director in the Specialist Health Sales team for Vitality. She talks about the everyday juggling act; the countless tasks, meal and school prep that needs to be done, all before she even starts her day in the office. She discusses the challenges she faces as a working parent; the guilt she can often feel in the realisation that she can't always remember it all, and the balance you need to try and achieve as a family.Hilary discusses how she got into the insurance industry, being inspired by a fellow female financial advisor that used to frequent the wine bar where she was working as a young girl. The lure of a lucrative career appealed to her, and the fact that there weren't many women working in the financial services sector at the time was appealing and served as a surprising positive in deciding to enter the industry. She started her career as a mortgage broker but finally found what she enjoyed most two years later, working in a business development role. She gained experience working at Bright Grey, now Royal London, then to Fortis Life before settling at Vitality.Hilary talks to us about the impact having two children has had on her career progression, and how it has slowed it down. She explains how having children can often affect your confidence when you return to the workplace, which impacts a huge number of women, and how there is an underlying pressure to compete in a male-dominated environment, when in fact, you shouldn't.Hilary's story is nothing short of inspirational, honest and informative, and as she puts it herself: “I love what I do. I love work, I love my children, but I need the structure and I need that sense of accomplishment that I get from my corporate world and my career.”
