The Bald Prince and His Tall Knight Make Perfect Travel Companions This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the new GOT spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. And Wonderman Episode 1. All this and… some Brandon Sanderson news. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Sanderson: 8:45 Wonderman: 19:00 Dunk & Egg: 35:07 Brandon Sanderson's Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere' Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/brandon-sandersons-mistborn-stormlight-archive-movie-tv-1236487271/ Wonderman (Disney+) Episode 1 – “Matinee” (Premiere) Episode 1 introduces us to Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a struggling actor and stuntman whose career is in a tailspin. After being fired from a TV role and dumped by his girlfriend, Simon is at a crossroads. When he runs into Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), a fellow actor with an eccentric reputation, he learns Slattery is auditioning for a remake of the classic superhero film Wonder Man — a movie Simon loved as a kid and which inspired him to pursue acting in the first place. Simon pushes for a shot at the role, but his agent refuses. Undeterred, he somehow lands an audition alongside Slattery anyway. Slattery gives him advice that helps him make an impression. Meanwhile, Department of Damage Control agent P. Cleary secretly contacts Slattery with instructions to watch Simon closely because he might have actual superpowers, tying Simon's acting ambitions to real-world MCU stakes. This episode sets up two parallel arcs: Simon's Hollywood hustle and dream of stardom, and the hint that he may be more than just an actor, potentially linking him to actual superhero abilities and the broader Marvel universe. Tone-wise, Episode 1 blends industry satire, comedy, and superhero setup, spotlighting the absurdities of Hollywood while weaving in classic MCU connective tissue. Ratings: Out of 5 Here’s a Note For You… Get Out Darryl: 3.75/5 Brian: 3.8/5 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO Max) Episode 1 – “The Hedge Knight” This premiere introduces Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (the boy who becomes his squire), setting up the tone and stakes for the series. It takes place about 100 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on a smaller-scale story full of character and humor rather than sweeping war and politics. Here's what happens: Dunk buries his mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and takes his sword, shield, and three horses as he heads toward the Ashford tourney, hoping to make his name and find work. At an inn, he meets a young bald boy who asks to be his squire. After initially refusing, Dunk ultimately accepts him and names the boy Egg. At Ashford, Dunk tries to enter the tournament but learns he needs someone reputable to vouch for him. He seeks out knights who knew Ser Arlan, but nobody will put their name on the line for a wandering hedge knight. Along the way we see the rough, earthy humor and grounded Westerosi world the show is leaning into (including some decidedly human moments missing from prior franchise entries). By the end, Dunk officially becomes Ser Duncan the Tall, and he and Egg share a moment under the stars, signaling the start of their journey together. Tone note: it's lighter and more character-focused than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, blending heartfelt moments with gritty, grounded humor. Episode 2 – “Hard Salt Beef” In the second episode, Dunk's quest to enter the Ashford tourney continues and the story expands slightly into the world's wider politics and personality. Key beats: Dunk spends much of the episode telling other knights about his mentor Ser Arlan, trying to get someone to vouch for him so he can compete, but keeps getting brushed off. Egg helps by pointing out the unfairness of Dunk needing permission when he's already a knight, showing how their dynamic is evolving. Members of House Targaryen arrive at the tourney — princes including Baelor, Maekar, and Aerion — and their presence adds weight to the event. Dunk overhears a conversation about missing Targaryen children and uses the moment (and a bit of boldness) to appeal directly to Prince Baelor to vouch for him. Baelor does remember Ser Arlan and, while not lavish in praise, quietly ensures Dunk's name is added to the tournament list. Dunk and Egg also start to settle more into the tourney rhythm — from watching performances to joining in games — as Dunk grapples with what legacy and honor really mean in this world. This episode deepens the relationship between Dunk and Egg, introduces more of Westeros's nobility (in a relatively casual, grounded way), and frames Dunk's struggles not just to fight but to matter. Quick Character & World Context Dunk and Egg are adapted from the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas by George R.R. Martin. The series is intentionally smaller in scale, focusing on relationships and the everyday lives of knights and squires rather than epic political wars or dragons. Patti and the Pottymouth warm up with some baseball talk and hot toddies after attempting to shovel the snowcrete encrusting our respective sidewalks. We profile players from Detroit and Cincinnati, stops on our still theoretical epic midwestern summer road trip. For Detroit, Pottymouth goes for bounce in the clubhouse and Patti leans into small town kid makes good. In Cincinnati, Pottymouth picks an energizer bunny/family man and Patti selects a utility player who grew up in Angels stadium. We appreciate PCA demonstrating excellent cross-training tendencies and celebrate José Ramírez locking in the Guardians for life. Winter ball demonstrates that more teams need dogs and Pottymouth loves to say “Anzoátegui.” And no episode can go by without a reference to a salary cap. Please help shovel out your neighbors and build some community in the process. We say, “Tito tells me to do something, I'm there,” “the takeaway here is more teams need dogs,” and, “I did the bare minimum, including breaking my ergonomic snow shovel.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. It's Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem, the podcast edition -- featuring this weeks' guest, show favorite Ed Laivo, known to the Interwebs as Ed Able of Ed Able Solutions -- which is the name of his YouTube channel of many years. The subject? Fruit Trees! Ed is an expert on this subject, and on citrus in particular. Today Edie and Ed discussed among other things the trend toward summer pruning to keep trees lower; in addition to keeping the fruit where you can reach it, keeping your trees to 7 feet or below also enables putting a grow cover over them to disrupt pests at key times, and causes the trees to require less water -- without materially affecting production volume. Ed works with a number of growers and nurseries in the California central valley, and recently re-wrote the "Back Yard Orchard Culture" feature on Dave Wilson Nursery's web site (the first time that article was updated in many years). Online access to information has its benefits and drawbacks. Though we can obtain information at the touch of a button, we can also be influenced and misinformed as to spiritual matters. False teachers and false prophets have seemingly flourished online, and now that individuals are questioning such practices and teachings, they are experiencing the disadvantage of growing Biblical discernment. Now, some leaders are countering by calling "discernment ministries" gossips and slanderers, telling their followers to silence such people and to avoid them. Join me as we look at some recent developments regarding specific leaders within this movement, and we consider the definitions of gossip and slander. No, we don't mean us, we mean the PWHL, where Patti crosstrained with their “Takeover Tour” and helped set an attendance record for US women's hockey this weekend. Our bfs this week, from Kansas City and San Francisco, are all all young guys doing good in the world and on the field. Pottymouth picks a guy who finds a way to make lack of a second language work for him, and one leaning in to the goofy. Patti goes with a collegiate Ohtani and a lightning bolt. The hot stove claims some bats, adding fuel to the salary cap fire. An unsigned free agent gets suspended – but from what? Rosters for the World Baseball Classic gain some and lose some. Venezuela is really, really hosting an important tournament. Kansas City moves some outfield walls to be more average. And we learn about Tupac's love of libraries. Or at least one in Baltimore. Philanthropies mentioned on today's show include: Micah Pietila-Wiggs ”LLM” Foundation, Food4kids Florida, Bat Flips for Kids.We say, “He tore a tendon in his right middle finger – for me that would be a major injury,” “Of course, Vegas was not a good place for Tupac,” and, "There's gonna be some color-coding and maybe some Google Sheets.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Bob Kendrick, President of the National Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, joins us for a conversation ranging from touring his childhood hero, Henry Aaron, through the museum, to the incorporation of Negro League statistics into MLB stats, the rebirth of the Indianapolis Clowns, Toni Stone, the unexpected benevolence of a white, Canadian rocker, and the ambitious plan to triple the size of the museum to give Buck the house he deserves. Patti and Pottymouth are now planning an epic road trip and we bet you just might too. In the meantime, consider a contribution to Pitch for the Future, the capital campaign to build the new museum.Bob says, “I grew up in the country, I don't know if we had gravitas,” “Every time I was with Mr. Aaron I was reduced to that 12 year old kid,” and “You played it with high skill, you played it with passion, but you also played it with a little swag.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. We had the great honor of talking with Bob Kendrick, President of the National Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which, in his words, “is one of the nation's most preeminent social justice civil rights institutions – it's just seen through the lens of baseball.” We share a few of Bob's stories in this episode, and the full interview will be released as a bonus episode later this week. We've got boyfriends from TEX and ARI this week. For TEX, Pottymouth picks the only guy to play for both teams in one game while Patti completes a set of brothers. We battle for shortstop with ARI, with Pottymouth going sunshine and Patti leaning into the mom thing. We continue to keep an eye on MLB players in Venezuela, and we crosstrain with reality TV and fictional hockey, while women's basketball crosstrains with women's hockey. We say, “Another retirement plan is coming to fruition,” “He can't sing very well, but he tried,” and “Now that is a momma's story right there.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. We did not plan to go all Florida in this episode but you can't fight the rankings. For the Rays, Pottymouth picks Jonathan Aranda of the excellent qHAR and Kirk friendship, and Patti goes sexy defense and trustworthy babysitter Carson Williams. For MIA, Pottymouth selects Jakob Marsee and his good luck travelling pack, and Patti picks former Oriole Connor Norby, maybe just to tell a call up story. You knew it was coming, buckle up for the Venezuela rant. MLB had no plan and team statements are few and far between. Pottymouth has shared this googlesheet of Venezuelan players so you are able to track their statements as they happen. There's not enough police blotter in the world to contain Lenny Dykstra. In which our boyfriend profiles reference the chicken dance, churning butter, ballers, and something nice to look at. Welcome to (not the Sacramento) Athletics and Cardinals week. The long strange trip of Anthony Rendon is finally over. He may have been why we changed the rules on forever boyfriends… the multi-talented Katia Reguero Lindor joins the Mamdani transition team and we are here for it. Is that why they are using Mets colors? We crosstrain with the ECHL's brief but effective strike and share the ridiculously low expectations of minor league hockey. There's a series of series in the international baseball segment and we are no less confused. The road trip season has pushed us back a day but here we are squeezing in a show between Chanukah and Christmas. Vocabulary lessons this week include Competitive Balance Tax, because the Luxury Tax isn't just for Monopoly anymore, and Prospect Promotion Incentive (PPI). Just because it's the holidays it doesn't mean you can slack on learning. Our boyfriends this week are from BAL, where Patti leans into the once and forever boyfriend and Pottymouth goes Westy, and the Hammers, where Pottymouth picks a player with a wacky Tennessee claim to fame and Patti goes right to ROY. The Police Blotter features the return of Wander Franco's case to the courts, and the end of the Tyler Skagg's courtroom drama. The International Baseball update includes almost baffling chaos around the Serie del Caribe and the Serie de las Americas but the takeaway is absolutely please stop blowing up Venezuelan boats. We're both on yet more road trips and we wish you safe travels if you are too, and happy holidays if you celebrate. See you a day late again next week!We say, “A glass half full of Santa's Butt,” “There was some hockey, there was some smarts,” and “Donny was the youngest Osmond that had any juice.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. TV and Movie Reviews to Listen to Around the Yule Log This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl talk about a couple movies the saw this week in individual mini-reviews (Avatar: Fire & Ash and The Housemaid). Then breakdown season 2 episode 1 of Fallout. Then give a review of HIM. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Avatar: Fire and Ash: 12:35 The Housemaid: 25:05 Fallout: 34:18 HIM: 49:41 Avatar: FIre and Ash (2025) Rating Out 10 It’s the Third Movie and It’s Fine… it’s Fine Darryl: 6.2/10 Summary Avatar: Fire and Ash expands the world of Pandora by pushing the story into darker, more volatile territory. This chapter introduces a new Na'vi culture shaped not by water or forest, but by fire, ash, and survival in a brutal volcanic region of the moon. These clans challenge everything Jake Sully and Neytiri believe about what it means to live in balance with Pandora. As tensions rise between Na'vi factions and the ever-encroaching human presence, the film shifts from a clear-cut nature-vs-invaders narrative into something far more morally complex. Fire and Ash explores how trauma, rage, and vengeance can fracture even the most deeply spiritual societies, forcing characters to confront uncomfortable truths about leadership, legacy, and the cost of endless war. Visually, the film leans hard into contrast. Lush blues and greens give way to scorched landscapes, molten rock, and smoke-filled skies, creating a harsher, angrier version of Pandora that mirrors the emotional state of its characters. At its core, Fire and Ash is about consequence. Not just for humanity's actions, but for the choices the Na'vi themselves make when survival demands brutality. This entry reframes the Avatar saga as less of a mythic adventure and more of a generational reckoning, setting the stage for a future where Pandora's greatest threat may no longer come from the stars, but from within. The Housemaid (2025) Rating Out of 10 The Dad Who Rocks the Cradle Brian: 6.5/10 Summary The Housemaid is a 2025 American psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig, adapted from Freida McFadden's bestselling 2022 novel. It stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a troubled young woman recently released on probation who desperately needs steady work. When she lands a live-in housemaid job with the wealthy Winchester family on Long Island, things initially seem like a fresh start. But behind the manicured lawns and spacious rooms, the Winchesters' life is anything but perfect. Millie soon discovers that Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried) is temperamental and volatile, her daughter Cecilia is cold and disrespectful, and unsettling secrets lurk beneath the surface of this elite household. As Millie becomes more entangled in their lives, the film steadily shifts from domestic drama to a gripping, twist-heavy thriller where trust is scarce and danger hides in plain sight. The tension escalates when Millie realizes that the family dynamics are far darker than she suspected, leading to shocking betrayals and a violent confrontation that upends everything the audience thought they knew. The Housemaid blends suspense, psychological games, and interpersonal manipulation in a holiday season release that delivers both unpredictable twists and intense character play. Fallout (Amazon Prime) Season 2 Episode 1 Title: The Innovator Directed by: Frederick E. O. Toye Written by: Geneva Robertson-Dworet & Graham Wagner Date Aired: December 16, 2025 Summary In 2077, before the war, a man supportive of Robert House, CEO of RobCo Industries, implants a control chip in a bar patron, forcing him to murder his companions before the chip detonates. After uncovering Vault-Tec’s secret plans, actor Cooper Howard attempts to flee with his daughter Janey, but Lee Moldaver convinces him to stay and spy on his wife Barb, who is traveling to Las Vegas to meet House. In 2296, Lucy MacLean and the Ghoul kill a group of Great Khans while tracking Lucy’s father, Hank, which leads them to the abandoned Vault 24, where they discover a Vault-Tec experiment using chips for brainwashing; a man with a chip implanted briefly speaks to Lucy before the chip explodes. Trapped in Vault 31, Norm, without food or water, awakens cryogenically preserved Vault-Tec executives. In Vault 32, Overseer Steph struggles with leadership, while in Vault 33, Overseer Betty supervises repairs to the water chip. Meanwhile, Hank arrives at an abandoned Vault-tec facility and leaves a message for an unknown figure that he will finish his project. Rating Out of 5 Exploding Heads for Everyone Darryl: 3.35/5 Brian: 3.2/5 HIM (2025) Summary HIM is a psychological horror film that uses the world of elite sports to explore obsession, identity, and the dangerous cost of chasing greatness. The story follows a promising young football player whose talent earns him access to a rare and secretive mentorship under a legendary athlete. What begins as an opportunity of a lifetime slowly reveals itself to be something far more disturbing. As the mentorship deepens, the film peels back the glossy surface of fame and success, exposing a culture that treats athletes as assets rather than people. Training pushes beyond discipline into control, blurring the line between motivation and manipulation. The closer the protagonist gets to his dream, the more he begins to lose his sense of self. Rather than relying on jump scares, HIM builds dread through atmosphere and psychological pressure. The horror comes from systems, power dynamics, and the unspoken expectation that personal sacrifice is the price of excellence. The film questions how far someone is willing to go to be “chosen” and what parts of themselves they are expected to surrender along the way. At its core, HIM is a cautionary tale about hero worship and the myth of meritocracy, wrapped in a slow-burn horror framework. It leaves the audience unsettled not by monsters, but by the realization that the most terrifying forces are often the ones we willingly submit to in the pursuit of success. 10 Years and 500 Peaks and Valleys of Pop Culture This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl celebrate the Infamous Podcast’s most Infamous Milestone yet… 500 Episodes. Here, they will discuss how the pop culture landscape has changed since July 2015. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Nostalgia: 5:00 The Rise and Fall of Pop Culture Five hundred episodes in, Brian and Darryl have seen some things. Chief among them: the slow realization that Hollywood learned absolutely the wrong lessons from its biggest successes. Take Marvel. Once upon a time, this was the gold standard. The MCU built toward Avengers: Endgame like it mattered, because it did. When nostalgia showed up, it was earned. Even the contentious stuff, like Captain Marvel or the very “look around, ladies” A-Force moment, happened inside a franchise people still trusted. Then the Disney+ floodgates opened. Too many shows, too little focus, and suddenly big ideas like Doomsday didn't feel epic. They felt panicked. The machine kept pumping content, but the soul quietly clocked out. Spider-Man: No Way Home briefly reminded everyone how this is supposed to work. Nostalgia wasn't the point. Story was. Seeing multiple Spider-Men together actually meant something, and for a minute, Marvel felt dangerous again. Then everyone immediately tried to copy the trick without understanding why it worked. Star Wars didn't even get that far. Somehow, with the original cast alive and willing, the sequel trilogy never once put Luke, Leia, and Han on screen together. Not once. It's arguably the biggest fumble in modern blockbuster history. Nostalgia wasn't used to unite fans. It was used like window dressing, leaving audiences staring at the screen thinking, “How did you miss that?” Indiana Jones followed the same road into the ditch. Instead of honoring what Indy stood for, the franchise tried to modernize the wrong things, misunderstand its own appeal, and slowly sand down the character until nothing recognizable was left. The so-called “Phoebe Waller effect” isn't about one person. It's about Hollywood confusing quippy cynicism and tonal shifts with actual evolution and then acting shocked when audiences check out. And that's the real takeaway here. Nostalgia can't save a floundering global box office. Audiences aren't idiots. They know when they're being sold a memory instead of a story. Recognition has replaced risk, and comfort IP has replaced creativity. The result is a lot of familiar logos and a shocking lack of excitement. And then there's Dexter, quietly walking into the room and embarrassing half of Hollywood. Instead of screaming “remember this?” every five minutes, Dexter did something radical. It changed the setting, brought in new characters, raised the stakes, and kept the core of the character intact. Same morally broken serial killer, new problems. No endless callbacks. No cosplay storytelling. Just character, consequence, and actual intent. Which is wild, because Dexter figured out the thing billion-dollar franchises still can't. If the only thing your revival has is memories, you don't have a revival. You have a reunion tour. Dexter wasn't trying to recreate Miami or trick audiences into nostalgia dopamine. It trusted that people missed the character, not the wallpaper. So while Marvel is throwing multiverses at the wall, Star Wars forgot to put its Trinity in the same room, Indiana Jones got power-washed into irrelevance, and DC is still arguing with itself, Dexter just showed up, changed the scenery, and reminded everyone how this is actually done. Same Dexter. New playground. No panic. No apology tour. Five hundred episodes later, Brian and Darryl aren't mad that pop culture changed. They're annoyed that it changed this lazily. Because if there's one thing a decade of podcasting proves, it's this: people don't stop loving franchises. Franchises stop loving their audiences. And yeah… we're still talking about it. On this week's show we crosstrain with the NBA, the PWHL, the WNBA, and cats. We tell you exactly what you need to win for a share of the pre-arbitration bonus pool and Pottymouth makes a case for a similar pay equity system for public servants. As both of your hosts are public servants, we support this idea. We cannot share the top secret formula, however, because, well, top secret. Our boyfriends this week are from the Twins and the Nats. Pottymouth was swayed by love at first sight, and Patti took inspiration from last week's interview guest, Clara Rice. We bring you one of the Rodrigi, a wrestler with a boxer walk-up, a young man giving back and “doing something cool,” and a playable character offered a full ride in 8th grade. WBC Rosters are out and its already stubhub time if you want to see any games in PR. Venezuela is still the host of the Serie del Caribe, but lets all keep an eye on current events. MLB workshops its economic priorities for the next CBA with the Fan Council, the MLBPA eboard is all pitchers and former Patti BFs, which sounds right, and Dave Roberts makes some poor language choices. We say,”I'm more of the fricking type because I'm a lady,” “I went to a basketball game in the live,” and “Where is our Tortuga?” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Families at War are Peak Comedy This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are reviewing two very different family movies… one where the whole family works to fight the “King of the North”. The other was an all-out brawl with Mom and Dad for all the flowers. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The Family Plan 2: 6:15 The Roses: 15:29 The Family Plan 2 (Apple TV) Rating Out of 10 Short Haired Jon Snow Looks Really Weird Darryl: 4.5/10 Brian: 5.1/10 Summary The Family Plan 2 picks up three years after the first film. This week, we end season seven of Off the Grid with an honest conversation about self-employment amidst polycrisis.I'm joined by the inimitable Shivani Mehta Bhatia — who returns to the show to help us weave our experiences of grief, witnessing, conflict, rest, deep sorrow, and profound joy. It's been a long year, and we quite literally laugh and cry as we reflect on how 2025 has clarified our commitments — including how we've (imperfectly) kept working through it all.Tune in, then if you want to process together: join me for a free end-of-year journalling session on December 9th. We'll gather, look back at 2025, and do our best to hold it all collectively.
Clara Rice “technically” played eight sports in high school and “also baseball” outside of school so how could she not be part of the WPBL's first draft class? She's been crosstraining her whole life for this. Don't worry though, she's down to just two sports in her junior year of college, and “also baseball.” We hope you enjoy listening to our interview with Clara even half as much as we enjoyed talking with her. Just don't try to pin her down on a hometown, there's too many of them. It's also the first of our new season of boyfriends. For CWS picks, Pottymouth goes for the infectious personality and Patti goes for the guy who takes mom to the hardware store. In COL, Pottymouth chooses a podcaster and Patti says yes to sexy defense. Some quick hits on winter ball: check out Saucegiving, and the LVBP HR derby. We say, “I like that you check with me on a bible situation,” “It broke up the boy band,” and, “fishes, loaves, whatever, there were a lot of Tidings.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. It’s a Movie Review, but in a Car This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl get together to revive the Instant Reaction Review for SISU: Road to Revenge. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 SISU 2: 2:00 SISU Road to Revenge (2025) Ratings Out of 10 How Could There Possibly be Any Blood Left in His Body Because it All Pumped Out onto the Floor of the Train Darryl: 6.5/10 Brian: 6.3/10 Summary SISU: Road to Revenge brings back Finland's most unstoppable ex-commando, Aatami Korpi, diving straight into another brutal gauntlet of vengeance, grit, and sheer unbreakable willpower. After finding a fragile peace in the aftermath of his gold-fueled rampage, Korpi is dragged back into violence when a new band of opportunistic mercenaries threatens the one thing he has left worth protecting. What follows is an explosive trail of carnage across the frozen frontier: mines, traps, improvised weapons, and an old soldier's creativity pushed to mythic extremes. The film doubles down on everything that made the original a cult favorite — gnarly kills, dark humor, insane resilience, and the legend of a man too stubborn to die. SISU: Road to Revenge is a stripped-down, savage revenge ride that proves once again that SISU-ness isn't just toughness… it's a whole survival philosophy. Perfect for fans of the first film, pulpy action, and anybody who loves watching one man absolutely ruin an army's week. Cast Jorma Tommila — Aatami Korpi Stephen Lang — Igor Draganov (the Soviet officer hunting Korpi) Richard Brake — KGB Officer / Soviet antagonist Supporting / Minor Cast Einar Haraldsson — Soldier (Soviet soldier) Jaakko Hutchings — Soviet Soldier Ergo Küppas — Soviet Border Guard Anton Klink — Soviet Border Guard Creative Team & Crew Writer / Director: Jalmari Helander Producers: Petri Jokiranta, Mike Goodridge Executive Producers: Gregory Ouanhon, Antonio Salas Cinematographer (Director of Photography): Mika Orasmaa Editor: Juho Virolainen Music / Score (Composers): Juri Seppä, Tuomas Wäinölä Production Budget: $12 million Box Office*: $6.6 million worldwide Break-even*: According to one “break-even” analysis, the film needed about US $30.5 million worldwide gross to turn a profit (assuming production + marketing + distribution costs roughly 2.5× production budget). *as of recording Contact Us The Infamous Podcast can be found wherever podcasts are found on the Interwebs, feel free to subscribe and follow along on social media. It's rare you can watch a dream come true in real time. We've been following Paloma Benach's career as part of DC Girls Baseball, captaining her high school varsity team, and more along the way. And now we had the pleasure of speaking with her as a professional baseball player – making history in the inaugural draft of the Women's Pro Baseball League. Give a listen as Paloma shares what it was like standing on the mound at Nat's Park, what it took to get there, and what's next. We also talk about some MLB and winter ball news, so there's some clubhouse dogs, bat dogs, and wolves using tools, some hot stove vocabulary, yet more sports betting. Don't worry, the Commissioner has that handled. Cena gives a speech that's equal parts gratitude and grit, putting a final period on his legendary MSG history. We'll recap the full segment, crowd reaction, notable cameos, and what this means for Cena's future inside the ring. Movie Review Catch Up The Running Man (2025) A sleek, neon-drenched reimagining of the 1980s cult classic. Glenn Powell carries the film with charisma and controlled swagger, leaning hard into the satire without losing the stakes. We'll break down the world-building upgrades, how this version uses modern media culture as its villain, and whether it succeeds where the original stumbled. Ratings Out of 10 When Did 18 days Equal 30 Days? Darryl: 6.7/10 Brian: 6.71/10 Frankenstein (Netflix Original) A haunting, beautifully constructed adaptation dripping with gothic style. Del Toro delivers a deeply emotional and visually stunning take on the classic tale — focusing on tragedy, humanity, and the monster we create by failing one another. We'll dig into the performances, the creature design, and how Del Toro balances horror, heartbreak, and hope. Ratings Out of 10 Would You Want to be Alone in the Woods With a Wolf or a Frankenstein’s Monster? Darryl: 6.8/10 Brian: 7.3/10 Predator: Badlands (2025) The newest entry in the Predator anthology line continues the trend of smaller, character-focused stories set against the backdrop of a galactic apex hunter. Badlands brings brutal hand-to-hand combat, a grounded survival narrative, and one of the most intimidating Predator designs to date. We'll talk pacing, kills, atmosphere, and where this ranks in the modern Predator revival. The Police Blotter is all sports betting because it is really hitting a new level and we don't miss the irony of the GMs meeting in a casino last week. Preliminary labor talks give Patti her second favorite quote of the week. We crosstrain with the fascist in chief's visit to the Commanders vs Lions game last week and more happily with the PWHL's Takeover Tour. Stay tuned – the WPBL's draft is coming up!We say, “You manifested the orangeness,” “That was putting the camel before the horse,” and, “You could have funded healthcare with that flyover.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Listen to this episode before you begin holiday shopping or selling!Today I'm sharing a conversation I had with Rachel Duncan for the Money Healing Club Podcast where we go deeeeeep into how social media impacts our spending habits and finances. We talk about budgets, boundaries, and screentime. Then we explore why restriction isn't necessarily the answer to addiction — and why rebellion and pleasure may be better antidotes for feeling too online. We also explore the core concepts of my book, including: what's wrong with the attention economy, the negative impacts of extractive algorithms, and my 5 principles for gardening your attention.➡

Here we go into hot stove! And the one of us who is not a teacher by trade provides the vocabulary lesson. Stick with us and qualifying offers, arbitration, and super 2s will not confuse you. Congrats to Patti's center fielders, PCA and Cedanne, for their Gold Glove wins, and to Pottymouth's catcher Patrick Bailey for his. Pottymouth is accountable with her accounting – she came through with donations to excellent organizations doing good work to balance out guys who have done horrible things off the field helping her favorite team win on the field. Other good works in baseball? Dodgers fans supporting a Toronto children's hospital, inspired by Toronto fans supporting a Seattle hospital. Maybe the LAD supporting the California Community Foundation's LA Neighbors Fund? Maybe not? And the folks urging LAD to take an intentional walk right on past the White House instead of stopping by for a World Series visit. Sign their petition. The police blotter is long, covering Clase and Ortiz's gambling/fixing pitches indictments, Prince Harry's completely unnecessary apology to Canada (no kings, anybody?), the Fascist-in-Chief's pardoning of Daryl Strawberry for things he himself embraces so how can they be wrong, and Harper not actually sleeping with the fishes. Winter ball news includes Javy not only playing for LBPRC but also buying a AA semi-pro team, and the league rebranding in a way that makes Patti think she knows more Spanish than she actually does (El rebranding,” “La Pro”). And how about that Little Machete? More white guys got manager gigs, but one is on his way to being bilingual as Albernaz adds some Baltimore-ese to his native Mass. Your hosts urge you to take some hyper local action if you are comfortable – patronize your local immigrant-owned businesses, support your community foundation, write some postcards to policy makers. We say, “perhaps the whole king thing is a bigger problem than the baseball cap,” “mafia-level juicy gossip,” and “I'm going to keep talking until you tell me to stop.” “Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Subtitle This week on The Infamous Podcast, Brian and Darryl break down the Hulu original series Chad Powers, the sports comedy nobody saw coming but everyone's talking about. Also, they talk about the frantic trade deadline in the NFL. The story follows Russ Holliday (played by Glen Powell), a once-promising college quarterback whose career flames out after a humiliating mistake and public scandal. Eight years later, he reinvents himself — literally — as “Chad Powers,” donning prosthetics and a wig to walk onto a struggling small-college football team, the South Georgia Catfish. Inspired by Eli Manning's viral “Chad Powers” sketch from his ESPN+ show Eli's Places, the series combines heart, humor, and a little bit of helmet hair. The result is a surprisingly sharp commentary on fame, failure, and the lengths people go to for a second chance. Production Information Creators: Glen Powell & Michael Waldron Writers: Glen Powell, Michael Waldron Executive Producers: Glen Powell, Michael Waldron, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Adam Fasullo, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, Tony Yacenda, Luvh Rakhe Production Companies: Anomaly Pictures, Barnstorm, ESPN, Omaha Productions, 20th Television Network: Hulu Season 1 Episodes: 6 (Sept 30 – Oct 28 2025) Main Cast Glen Powell as Russ Holliday / Chad Powers Perry Mattfeld as Ricky Hudson Steve Zahn as Coach Jake Hudson Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny Wynn Everett as Tricia Hudson Toby Huss as Mike Holliday Clayne Crawford as Coach Dobbs Colton Ryan as Gerry (Bench QB) Episode Guide Episode Title Synopsis 1 1st Quarter Russ's career implodes in a championship disaster. Eight years later, he re-emerges as “Chad Powers” and walks onto the Catfish roster in disguise. 2 2nd Quarter Chad wins over the team with southern charm and awkward charisma, while juggling his fake persona and fractured confidence. 3 3rd Quarter Mid-season tensions rise as rival QBs start to question who Chad really is — and if he's too good to be true. 4 4th Quarter During an away game, Chad and Danny sneak out for some classic football mischief that could expose everything. 5 5th Quarter Chaos hits the team lakehouse as family drama and affairs collide — Coach Hudson suffers a heart attack mid-chaos. 6 6th Quarter Chad's true identity unravels; Russ faces the ultimate decision: come clean or finish what he started on the field. Themes & Tone Chad Powers sits somewhere between Tootsie and Friday Night Lights — funny, heartfelt, and just absurd enough to work. The show examines identity, redemption, and what it means to love the game even when the game doesn't love you back. Infamous Take Glen Powell leans fully into his comedic side, proving he can play both Hollywood's golden boy and a complete goofball. Steve Zahn is a perfect counterpoint as the grizzled coach trying to keep a small-time program alive. The show's mix of football authenticity and sitcom-level absurdity hits a sweet spot for fans of sports stories with heart and humor. Let's get into it with phone addiction and doomscrolling.
We have many thoughts about the World Series including loving a Game Seven which had all the things except the result we wanted. Ernie Clement was the center of it all, Freddie couldn't stop with the walk offs, Yamamoto earned that MVP, we got a bench clearing kerfuffle, Will Smith took another big swing, and we had multiple chances to talk about just how much time Shohei should be taking. The TOR bullpen joined the LAD in showing support for Alex Vesia. Vladdy honored Captain Clutch, Marie Philip Poulin, but was unable to channel her magic. Congrats to Pookie for winning the Roberto Clemente award. ICE cooled off ticket sales and caused the plug to be pulled on the LIDOM showcase at Citifield, but the DR/PR all stars may still be on. The MLBPA flushed out a mole. And we give Max the last word on the season. We say, “I'm doing numerology in my head,” “a tax on people who can't do math,” and, “I'll cheers with my Canadian little whiskey here.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. When Did Blood Powers Get So Cool? Trick question, they were always cool. This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review the 2025 Cincinnati Comic Expo, Netflix Hypocrisy, The Hunt for Ben Solo, and Gen V season 2. Darryl: 7/10 Brian: 7.91/10 This season picks up in the wake of The Boys Season 4, so the wider universe is in upheaval. The supes (superpowered individuals) are rising in influence, and societal tensions between “humans” and “supes” are mounting. Meanwhile, at the campus of Godolkin University (the super-powered college) the tone has shifted. The new Dean, Hamish Linklater's Cipher, has taken over and is steering the institution in a more militant, ideological direction. Also important: the show addresses the real-life death of actor Chance Perdomo (who played Andre) by choosing not to recast his character and weaving that absence into the story's grief and complexity. Core Storylines Marie Moreau (played by Jaz Sinclair) returns to Godolkin asking “what now?” after all they've been through — personal trauma, power shifts, ethical compromise. Her friends (Emma, Jordan, others) are also re-entering campus life, but nothing is the same. Their old status, relationships, and sense of purpose are all shaken. The University under Cipher is transforming from a somewhat dysfunctional but familiar institution into a training ground for supes as weapons (indoctrination, “fight clubs”, hierarchy). There's a growing war-like atmosphere: humans vs. supes, internal class conflict among supes, institutional corruption and hidden programs. One big plot strain revolves around a secret “Project Odessa”-type program from the 1960s that may tie into what supes are becoming and how they're being used. Themes & Character Arcs Power and control: The season explores how supes react when they lose status or are asked to conform, and how institutions try to harness/weaponize their abilities. Identity and trauma: The aftermath of loss (Andre's death, past events) weighs heavy on Marie and the group — they're not the naïve freshman brigade anymore. Ethics of supers: What does it mean to be a hero when your school trains you for war? When you're asked to fight humans or other supes? Institutional critique: The campus becomes a micro-cosm of the supes-humans power system, and the show critiques both supes and the institutions behind them. Build-up towards larger event: Season 2 is also positioning things for the larger universe (The Boys final season) — it doesn't exist in isolation. What Makes This Season Different / What to Watch For The villainy is more structural than just “bad supes”: Cipher isn't just brute force, he uses ideology and systems. The moral lines blur: characters you thought you knew shift or harden. Emma's shift from naive to hardened is called out in interviews. More crossover and weight in the shared universe: Guest appearances, world-building that ties into The Boys. A sense of “pre-apocalypse” for supes and humans – you feel like the semester at Godolkin is the calm before the larger storm. The production's real-life tragedy (Perdomo's death) gives the season extra emotional stakes and an undercurrent of loss. Your hosts are relieved there's no sweep, but can we make it to a Game 7? Ernie Clement gives us the first episode of Home Town Love Comparison. TOR and Shohei have some we don't need you no take backsies moments. Kiké has a record and Will comes out of his shell and goes right back in. The Angels and Os pick new managers and we have opinions. The NBA betting scandals make both Rob and Tony toe some lines between concern, accountability, and income generation. The WPBL picks its first four cities, and MLB invites applications to National Girls and Women in Sports Day and also the Trailblazer series. Vladdy's foundation and El Gente del Barrio collaborate on a derby fundraiser in Miami, Pottymouth has AI teach her about Copa América de Béisbol, and LIDOM is counting on the hurricane going the other way so games can begin soon. LVBP welcomes it first female umpire. Big launches have been all the rage this year. But I've been working very quietly behind the scenes, growing my membership with small launches to a private waitlist. How's it gone? Pretty great, actually! I've invited in 6-18 new members every 4-6 weeks all year long. That's over 70 new people! Bringing in over $10,000 in revenue! And my nervous system has stayed regulated the entire time. So, as I do… I'm here to tell you exactly how I've done it.

The postseason peaked early for Patti with this holy crap of an all-boyfriend double play. Other than that, and Jackson Chourio, NCiB is ticked about the LAD sweep, both because LAD and also because sweep. Maybe also because MLB will use this to push for a salary cap when collective bargaining begins. Is it fair that Shohei Ohtani is also Michael Jordan? We are not pleased that a Brewer's fan provided a teaching moment in consequences for fans behaving badly. We fully endorse the “power of weird” in SEA fandom, from the $16 spell to rally shoes and cheetos and Logan Gilbert requesting Eugenio Suarez's grand slam. Gold Glove nominees were announced and Pottymouth gets a double nominee while Patti has a deep outfield with sexy defense. We crosstrain with the NFL, and a little with the Police Blotter as the Fascist in Chief meddles in World Cup Soccer.
