Rated R for Romance and Robots This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl kick things off with a live trailer watch of Ironheart—because nothing says excitement like corporate-mandated teen genius content. Then it's a double feature of cinematic chaos with reviews of Love Hurts (aka “What if John Wick cried more?”) and Novocaine (the feel-nothing action movie we didn't know we needed). Finally, we plug into the emotionally unavailable but highly bingeable Murderbot, Apple TV+'s latest attempt to make us root for a killer android with anxiety. From Xenomorphs to ETs: Which Alien Species is the Best? This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl boldly go into the sci-fi vault to debate the most creative alien species in the galaxy. Think Na'vi spirituality meets Xenomorph acid vomit. From hive-minded cybernetic zombies to fire-based art snobs, it's time to crown the weirdest, wildest, most wonderful extraterrestrials in fiction. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Alien, Mine: Alien Showdown… Who’s the Best? Darryl Heptapods (from Arrival) Physical Traits – Appearance: Heptapods are seven-limbed (hence the name “hepta-” meaning seven) creatures with a large, oval-shaped head and a body that appears to be semi-transparent2. – Eyes: They have thousands of small, dime-sized eyes in clusters, which are actually patches of photosensitive skin. – Sensory Perception: They use sophisticated sonar to perceive their environment, allowing them to detect even minute details. Culture – Non-linear Perception of Time: Heptapods experience time non-linearly, meaning they perceive past, present, and future simultaneously. This is reflected in their language and behavior3. – Patience and Long-term Thinking: Their non-linear perception of time gives them a unique perspective on patience and long-term consequences. They are willing to wait for humans to understand their language and purpose4. – Purpose of Arrival: They arrive on Earth to share their language, Heptapod B, which they believe will help humanity understand their non-linear perception of time and potentially aid them in the future. Language – Heptapod A: This is their spoken language, which sounds very organic and is designed to be heard rather than spoken. – Heptapod B: This is their written language, consisting of circular logograms that represent entire concepts or sentences rather than individual words. The meaning of these logograms depends on the tendrils and splotches branching out from their circular rings2. – Impact on Humans: Learning Heptapod B alters the human perception of time, allowing them to experience events out of sequence, similar to how Heptapods perceive time. MorningLightMountain (Commonwealth Saga by Peter F. Hamilton) Physical Traits: – Prime Bodies: MorningLightMountain’s consciousness inhabits billions of distinct Prime bodies. These bodies are divided into two types: motiles and immotiles1. – Motiles: Motiles can see and move but are relatively unintelligent on their own. – Immotiles: Immotiles are blind and immobile but highly intelligent. They can breed motiles, and four motiles can merge to form a new immotile1. – Wormhole Technology: MorningLightMountain possesses wormhole technology, allowing its bodies to communicate over arbitrarily large distances. Mental Traits: – Hive Mind: MorningLightMountain operates as a hive mind, with a single united consciousness spread across billions of bodies. – Xenophobic and Expansionist: The Primes, including MorningLightMountain, are highly xenophobic and expansionist, seeking to subsume or destroy other species. – Highly Intelligent: Immotiles can link to each other for greater processing power, making MorningLightMountain one of the most powerful Primes. Linguistic Traits: – Non-Verbal Communication: MorningLightMountain primarily communicates non-verbally through its network of bodies. – Radio Transmitters: Primes use implanted radio transmitters to stay wirelessly connected, allowing for long-range communication. Saga of the Seven Suns series (Kevin J Anderson) Hydrogues – Physical Traits: Elemental beings composed of water and gas, often appearing as massive, swirling masses of liquid and vapor. – Culture: Highly territorial and aggressive, especially when their habitats are threatened. They have a deep connection to water and gas. – Language: Communicate through complex patterns of vibrations and waves. Faeros – Physical Traits: Elemental beings associated with fire and light, emitting a warm glow and capable of producing flames. – Culture: Passionate and energetic, valuing creativity and expression. They are often involved in artistic and spiritual pursuits. – Language: Communicate through a combination of spoken language and visual symbols, using their fiery abilities to create intricate patterns and displays. Borg Physical Traits: – Cybernetic Enhancements: The Borg are a collective of various species that have been assimilated and augmented with cybernetic implants. This results in a mix of biological and mechanical features. – Pale Skin: Their skin tends to be pale or grayish due to the integration of technology and loss of individuality. – Mechanical Limbs and Eyes: Many Borg drones have mechanical limbs and/or eyes, often replacing their original biological parts with more efficient cybernetic versions. Culture: – Collective Consciousness: The Borg operate as a hive mind, known as the Collective. Individuality is suppressed, and all drones are connected through a central consciousness. – Assimilation: The primary goal of the Borg is to assimilate other species to enhance their own collective knowledge and capabilities. This is often done forcibly, with the mantra “Resistance is futile.” – Efficient and Methodical: The Borg are highly efficient and methodical in their actions, driven by their collective purpose of achieving perfection. Language: – Communal Communication: The Borg communicate internally through their collective consciousness, sharing thoughts and information instantaneously. – Distinctive Speech Patterns: When speaking externally, the Borg often use a collective “we” to represent their hive mind and have a monotone, emotionless speech pattern. Changelings (Founders) Physical Traits: – Shapeshifters: Changelings are highly advanced shapeshifters capable of assuming any form, from humanoid figures to inanimate objects. – Gelatinous State: In their natural form, Changelings exist as a gelatinous mass, which they revert to when at rest or regenerating. – Golden Hue: Their gelatinous form has a distinctive golden hue. Culture: – Great Link: The Changelings share a deep connection through the Great Link, a shared state where they merge together in their natural form, exchanging thoughts and experiences. – Isolation and Control: Historically, Changelings have sought to isolate themselves from solids (non-shapeshifting species) and control them to protect themselves from persecution and harm. – Founders of the Dominion: Changelings are the ruling species of the Dominion, a powerful political and military alliance in the Gamma Quadrant. They employ the Vorta and Jem’Hadar as their loyal servants to enforce their will. Language: – Universal Communication: Changelings typically communicate in the languages of the species they interact with. Their ability to shapeshift allows them to perfectly mimic speech. – Telepathic Connection: Within the Great Link, communication is telepathic and intuitive, allowing for an exchange of complex ideas and emotions without words. Na’vi (James Cameron Avatar movies) Physical Traits – Height and Build: The Na’vi are tall, standing about 10 feet (3 meters) in height, and have a slender, graceful build. – Blue Skin: They have blue skin with bioluminescent patterns that glow in the dark, helping them blend into their environment. – Four-Fingered Hands: Unlike humans, the Na’vi have four fingers on each hand and four toes on each foot. – Cat-like Features: They have large, expressive, golden eyes, pointed ears, and tails, giving them a feline appearance. – Braid with Neural Queue: Each Na’vi has a long braid called a “tswin,” which contains a neural queue that allows them to connect with other creatures and the environment on Pandora. Culture – Deep Connection with Nature: The Na’vi live in harmony with the natural world of Pandora. They have a deep spiritual connection with the flora, fauna, and the planet itself. – Clans and Tribes: The Na’vi are organized into various clans and tribes, each with its own customs and traditions. The Omaticaya clan, for example, resides in the Hometree. – Eywa: The Na’vi worship Eywa, the Great Mother, a deity representing the interconnectedness of all life on Pandora. They believe that Eywa maintains the balance of life. – Rites of Passage: Na’vi culture includes several rites of passage, such as the bonding with a direhorse (pa’li) and a mountain banshee (ikran), which signify one’s transition into adulthood. – Hunting and Gathering: The Na’vi are skilled hunters and gatherers, relying on their environment for sustenance while respecting the creatures they hunt. Language – Na’vi Language: The Na’vi have their own language, developed specifically for the film by linguist Dr. Paul Frommer. It is a fully functional language with its own grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. – Tsaheylu: The neural bond, called “tsaheylu,” allows the Na’vi to connect with other creatures and their environment. This connection is a form of communication that transcends spoken language. Xenomorphs (Alien Franchise) Physical Traits: – Exoskeleton: Xenomorphs have a biomechanical, black exoskeleton that provides them with great durability and a fearsome appearance. – Elongated Skull: They possess an elongated, ridged skull with a lack of visible eyes, giving them a terrifying, eyeless visage. – Inner Jaws: Equipped with a secondary, inner jaw that can extend from their mouths for lethal attacks. – Tail: Their long, muscular tails end in a sharp blade, which they use for both balance and as a weapon. – Acidic Blood: Their blood is highly acidic, capable of burning through metal and other materials. Culture: – Hive Structure: Xenomorphs have a hive-based social structure, with a Queen at the center, responsible for laying eggs and maintaining the population. – Instinct-Driven: They operate primarily on instinct, driven by a need to propagate their species. This includes capturing hosts for their Facehuggers to implant embryos. – Parasitic Life Cycle: Their life cycle involves multiple stages: Egg, Facehugger, Chestburster, and Adult. The Facehugger attaches to a host, implanting an embryo that later emerges violently from the host’s chest as a Chestburster. – Adaptive and Versatile: They can adapt to different environments and hosts, resulting in various Xenomorph types with specific traits influenced by their host species. Language: – Non-Verbal Communication: Xenomorphs communicate non-verbally through body language, pheromones, and hisses or screeches. Their interactions are primarily based on their hive hierarchy and instinctual behaviors. Species 8472 (Undine) — Honorable Mention Physical Traits: – Tripedal and Non-Humanoid: Species 8472, also known as Undine, are tripedal beings with a non-humanoid appearance. – Fluidic Space Origin: They originate from a dimension called fluidic space, which is accessible through quantum singularities. – Biological Technology: Their highly developed biology and organic technology make them tactically superior to the Borg. Culture: – War with the Borg: Species 8472 engaged in a war with the Borg after the Borg invaded their realm of fluidic space. They proved immune to assimilation and launched a counter-invasion of the galaxy2. – Genocidal Intentions: They have a genocidal intent towards other species, considering them a threat. – Negotiations with the Federation: Captain Kathryn Janeway of the USS Voyager negotiated peace with Species 8472, using a weapon developed from Borg nanoprobes to force them to retreat. Language: – Telepathic Communication: Species 8472 communicate telepathically, using their telepathic abilities to convey thoughts and intentions. – Unknown Name: Their name for themselves is unknown, as they are referred to by their Borg designation. Brian Farscape Luxans – Tall, warrior-like humanoids with a warrior code of honor. – Recognizable by their facial tendrils and thick-skinned appearance. – Can heal themselves through a process called “battlefield transfusion.” – Notable Character: Ka D'Argo – A fierce but noble warrior with a tragic past. Delvians – A sentient plant-based species with blue skin and photokinetic abilities. – Capable of deep meditation and powerful telepathic abilities. – Often have a spiritual or religious focus. – Notable Character: Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan – A Delvian priestess who can use her mind and biochemistry to heal or harm. Scarrans – Reptilian, highly aggressive, and among the most physically powerful species. – Possess natural heat-based abilities, allowing them to intimidate or harm opponents. – Scarrans view themselves as the superior species and often engage in genetic experimentation. – Notable Character: Emperor Staleek – A ruthless leader of the Scarran Empire. Pilots – Large, multi-limbed creatures that are biologically bonded to Leviathans (living ships). – They have a deep connection with their Leviathan and can control their functions. – Notable Character: Pilot – The pilot of Moya, who communicates with the crew and the ship. Leviathans – Living, biomechanical starships that possess sentience. – Generally peaceful but can be forced into servitude by Peacekeeper “Control Collars.” – Notable Character: Moya – The Leviathan that serves as the home and transport for Crichton and his crew. Star Wars (Expanded Universe) Yuuzhan Vong Who Are the Yuuzhan Vong? The Yuuzhan Vong are an extragalactic warrior species who invaded the Star Wars galaxy, triggering the Yuuzhan Vong War (25–29 ABY). Unlike most species in Star Wars, they: – Are immune to the Force – Jedi cannot sense them, and their presence in the galaxy caused major upheaval in the Force itself. – Use only organic technology – They abhor droids and mechanical technology, instead using genetically engineered living creatures as weapons, ships, and tools. – Are deeply religious and fanatical – They follow a strict caste system and worship pain as a path to enlightenment. Biology & Appearance – Humanoid, but with ritualistic scarring and tattooing that marks their status in society. – They believe in self-mutilation and pain as a form of religious devotion. – Have a higher pain tolerance than most species. – They view cybernetics and machines as heretical and replace body parts with living biotechnological organisms. Society & Culture The Yuuzhan Vong are organized into a rigid caste system: – The Supreme Overlord – The absolute ruler of their species. – Notable Character: Supreme Overlord Shimrra, who led the invasion of the galaxy. – The Warrior Caste – Devoted soldiers who follow a strict code of honor. – The Priest Caste – Religious leaders who interpret the will of the gods. – The Shaper Caste – Scientists responsible for bioengineering their weapons and technology. – The Intendant Caste – Bureaucrats and administrators. – The Worker Caste – The lowest rank, responsible for labor. Their entire culture revolves around pain, sacrifice, and religious zeal, believing that their gods command them to conquer and purify the galaxy. Yuuzhan Vong Technology (All Organic) – Living Starships (Coralskippers & Worldships) – Instead of metal ships, they use bio-engineered living vessels. – Vonduun Crab Armor – Grown, not manufactured, and is resistant to lightsabers. – Amphistaffs – Living snake-like weapons that function as both swords and whips. – Dovin Basals – Creatures that create miniature black holes to absorb attacks (even deflecting turbolaser fire). – Yorik Coral – Used to construct buildings, ships, and even restrain captives. The Yuuzhan Vong War (25–29 ABY) – The Yuuzhan Vong invaded the New Republic, launching a brutal war. – They captured and terraformed many worlds, including turning Coruscant into a massive Yuuzhan Vong ecosystem. – The Jedi, New Republic, and remnants of the Empire had to unite to fight them. – The war ended when Supreme Overlord Shimrra was killed, and his second-in-command, Onimi, was revealed as the real mastermind. – After their defeat, the surviving Yuuzhan Vong were relocated to Zonama Sekot, a living planet. Why Are They So Unique? – They stand out from all other Star Wars villains because they don't use the Force and their biology/technology is completely different from the rest of the galaxy. – They pushed the Jedi to their limits—without the ability to sense them in the Force, traditional Jedi tactics were ineffective. – Their brutality and disregard for machines made them unlike the Sith, the Empire, or any other major villains in Star Wars. Legacy in Star Wars While the Yuuzhan Vong were a major part of Legends, they have not appeared in the Disney canon yet. However, The Clone Wars animated series almost introduced them in a scrapped episode. Falling Skies Espheni (Overlords) – The main antagonists for most of the series. – An advanced, insectoid-like species with a strict hierarchical society. – Possess telepathic abilities and are highly intelligent strategists. – Use a combination of biotechnology and mechanical technology for warfare. – Consider humans an inferior species and attempt to enslave them. – They have an imperialistic nature, having conquered multiple planets before Earth. Notable Espheni: – The Espheni Overlords – Tall, slender, and powerful commanders of the invasion. – The Espheni Queen – The true leader of the invasion, revealed in the final season. Skitters (Arachnids) – Multi-limbed, insectoid creatures used as foot soldiers by the Espheni. – Originally another enslaved species, controlled through neural harnesses attached to their spines. – Many Skitters are loyal to the Espheni, but a rebel faction exists. – Known for high mobility, leaping abilities, and brutal combat skills. Notable Skitters: – Red-Eye – A rebel Skitter who aids the human resistance. – Harnessed Children – Human children forcibly enslaved by the Espheni using a similar mind-controlling harness. The Harnessed – Human (mainly children) captives of the Espheni, controlled through a biomechanical harness attached to their spines. – The harness allows the Espheni to control their minds and enhance their physical abilities. – Over time, harnessed children begin to transform into Skitters themselves. – Ben Mason, the son of protagonist Tom Mason, is partially harnessed but later freed. The Volm – A technologically advanced, humanoid alien species that arrives in Season 3 to help humanity. – They have been at war with the Espheni for generations and seek to liberate Earth. – Use energy-based weapons and powerful war machines. – While allied with humans, their leader, Cochise, warns that they have their own agenda. Notable Volm: – Cochise – The main Volm character, who forms a bond with the humans and helps them fight the Espheni. The Dornia (The Ancient Enemy) – Introduced late in the series as a mysterious aquatic species. – The original victims of the Espheni, nearly wiped out in the past. – Offer limited aid to the human resistance but provide key knowledge for defeating the Espheni Queen. – Their advanced biology allows them to manipulate water-based environments. Final Thoughts – The Espheni are classic conquerors, much like the Yuuzhan Vong (Star Wars) or Scarrans (Farscape), but with an added layer of biotechnology. – The Skitters are tragic figures, originally a peaceful species enslaved by the Espheni. – The Volm act as reluctant saviors, assisting humanity while maintaining their own goals. – The show played with themes of resistance, survival, and moral ambiguity, especially when it came to dealing with harnessed humans. Yup, an actual text sent by Patti to the Pottymouth because the new Pope is a legit sports fan. And oh how Chicago is enjoying that! We've got some nods to Mothers Day – badass Veronica Alvarez is gifted maternity baseball pants, Jace and Josh's mom gets to wear a split jersey to watch them face off on a major league field, and Pottymouth gets a hat. That Patti gets to wear. Jasson Dominguez overtakes a record previously held by Joe DiMaggio. Jackson Merrill says “daddy ball” and something mysterious that we can only guess at, and Andy Pages takes the real job. Some Houston fans overstep into dangerous and hateful territory over Lance McCullers. PIT can't catch a break anywhere, from fans, stadium staff, or managers. Rafael Devers is in need of some Crash Davis to get himself together. And Ayami Sato pitches for the Maple Leafs (the baseball ones, not the hockey ones). Pottymouth invites local friends of the show to Patti's birthday party. Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is famously known as the only rigorously tested antioxidant for age prevention. Why do Men prefer to be alone with a Gorilla? This week on The Infamous Podcast, Brian and Darryl tackle one of the internet's dumbest (and somehow most passionate) debates: 100 Men vs. a Gorilla. Could a man take a gorilla in a fair fight? No. Could 100? Probably not. Will we talk about it anyway? Absolutely. Then, it's time for some mini-reviews: Brian breaks down The Accountant 2—does Ben Affleck still bring the spreadsheet-smashing heat? While, Darryl reviews Thunderbolts**—a.k.a. the New Avengers, B-Team edition. Is Marvel back, or is it still stuck in its own multiversal funk? Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The New Avengers: 5:26 The Accountant 2: 15:15 100 Men vs. a Gorilla: 27:37 Mini-Review: Thunderbolts* (Darryl) – “It's not the Avengers you wanted, it's the team we got.” Out of 10 Wow this is what Summer School Sports Teams Look Like Darryl: 6.5/10 Summary Thunderbolts* is Marvel's latest attempt at a team-up movie where the B-team does C-tier missions with D-level emotional development. It's like The Avengers if everyone needed therapy, a second chance, and a better script. Think Suicide Squad, but with less attitude and more MCU baggage. Mini-Review: The Accountant 2 (Brian) – “Autism, action, and accounting: the triple-A blockbuster?” Out of 10 Ben Affleck When Full Simple Jack, You Never Go Full Simple Jack Brian: 5.75/10 Summary The Accountant 2 sees Ben Affleck back as the world's most dangerous math nerd—solving problems with spreadsheets and suppressed submachine guns. It's part action thriller, part tax season fever dream. Somehow, it's even more emotionally reserved than the IRS, but hey—at least the body count balances out. 100 Men vs. a Gorilla (our 100 men from fact, fiction, and the great beyond) Brian and Darryl take on the internet's dumbest debate live—by drafting their personal squad of 100 men to go toe-to-toe with one gorilla. No prep. No weapons. Just questionable logic, weird strategy, and vibes. Expect cameos from history, pop culture, and possibly professional wrestlers. Will it help? Absolutely not. But it'll be hilarious. The Men 1. Simon Phoenix 2. Contact Us The Infamous Podcast can be found wherever podcasts are found on the Interwebs, feel free to subscribe and follow along on social media. One of these stories had a resurrection that actually worked… This week on The Infamous Podcast, Brian and Darryl close the chapter on Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, and it's… a choice. Then they dig into Amazon's new supernatural bounty hunter series The Bondsman, which might just be the weirdest thing Prime Video has greenlit this month (and that's saying something). Darryl delivers a mini-review of The King of Kings—a cinematic sermon or box office blunder? Meanwhile, Brian charges in with a tactical breakdown of Warfare, where the explosions were loud and the film was in-ten-city-in-ten-cities. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The King of Kings Mini-Review: 6:00 Warfare Mini-Review: 12:08 Daredevil: Born Again Finale: 21:50 The Bondsman Season 1: 36:11 Mini-Review: The King of Kings (2025) – Rating 8/10 Summary Directed by Seong-ho Jang, this animated film features Charles Dickens (voiced by Kenneth Branagh) narrating the life of Jesus to his son Walter, who imagines himself witnessing biblical events. The film combines a unique framing device with a faithful retelling of the Gospels, featuring voice talents like Oscar Isaac as Jesus and Mark Hamill as King Herod. It's a heartfelt, family-friendly portrayal that resonates with audiences of all ages. Mini-Review: Warfare (2025) – Rating 6.75/10 Summary Co-directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland, “Warfare” offers a harrowing, real-time depiction of a Navy SEAL mission gone awry in Ramadi, Iraq. Based on Mendoza's own experiences, the film immerses viewers in the chaos of combat, highlighting the psychological toll on soldiers. With a strong ensemble cast and a commitment to authenticity, it's a visceral exploration of modern warfare's realities. Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+) Out of 5 Broken Batons Darryl: 2.75/5 Brian: 3.2/5 Season 1 Out of 10 Conflicted Catholics in Spandex Darryl: 6.25/10 Brian: 6.9/10 Summary In the finale titled “Straight to Hell,” Matt Murdock faces devastating losses: Foggy Nelson is murdered by Bullseye under Vanessa Fisk's orders, and Kingpin seizes control of New York, imposing martial law. Despite the chaos, Matt, with allies like Karen Page and the Punisher, begins to form a resistance, setting the stage for a darker, more intense Season 2. The Bondsman – Season 1 (Prime) Out of 10 Deals with the Devil Darryl: 7.5/10 Brian: 7.85/10 Summary The Bondsman is a supernatural western-action series from Amazon Prime that blends grit, grief, and a touch of hellfire. It follows Hub Halloran (played by Kevin Bacon), a grizzled and recently deceased bounty hunter who gets a second shot at redemption — but with a catch: he's brought back to life by the Devil himself to track down demons who've escaped Hell. Armed with his cowboy instincts, a sarcastic streak, and a growing sense of purpose, Hub rides across dusty towns and shadowy landscapes hunting hellspawn, questioning whether this is punishment, penance… or something more cosmic. Along the way, he reconnects with estranged family, forms an unlikely bond with a demon-turned-sidekick named Midge, and uncovers a deeper plot that could tear open the gates of Hell permanently. The tone walks a line between Justified and Supernatural, with bursts of dark humor, philosophical musings, and buckets of demon-slaying chaos. Bacon brings swagger and weariness in equal measure, anchoring a surprisingly emotional core in a show that never takes itself too seriously — until it suddenly does. Episode 1: “Hell to Pay” Bounty hunter Hub Halloran is murdered and resurrected by the Devil to hunt escaped demons, marking the start of his supernatural journey. Episode 2: “Dead Man's Debt” Hub captures an arsonist named Tater, uncovering a larger demonic plot. Episode 3: “Family Ties” Hub reconnects with his estranged family, seeking assistance in his mission. Episode 4: “Crossroads” A demon threatens a local community, forcing Hub to make a moral choice. Episode 5: “The Devil's Due” Hub confronts the consequences of his past actions as a bounty hunter. Episode 6: “Revelations” Hub uncovers a deeper conspiracy involving escaped demons and seeks help from Midge. Episode 7: “Pyralis” Hub and Midge attempt to prevent an apocalyptic event orchestrated by a powerful demon. Episode 8: “Lilith” Hub confronts his greatest sin and faces a formidable demonic adversary, seeking redemption. She realizes he is Muse and Bastian knocks her unconscious. Murdock and the AVTF separately find paintings of Glenn in Muse’s lair and go to save her. Hello to you listening in Berlin, Germany!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (& a bit more) for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. This lovely poem you're about to hear was written in Portugese by Ricardo Gondim Rodrigues, a Brazilian theologian and progressive pastor. The English translation and title (“My Soul Has a Hat”) is often mis-attributed to Mário de Andrade (1893-1945), poet, novelist, essayist, and one of the founders of Brazilian modernism.Click HERE to read the backstory.Click HERE to read “My Soul Has a Hat” by Mário de Andrade Is Fake News for more information. Remember, not everything you find on the InterWeb is correct. Accuracy is everything!O Tempo que Foge (The Time That Runs Away)"I counted my years and realized that I have less time to live by, than I have lived so far. I feel like a child who won a pack of candies: at first, he ate them with pleasure but when he realized that there was little left, he began to taste them intensely.I have no time for endless meetings where the statutes, rules, procedures and internal regulations are discussed, knowing that nothing will be done.I no longer have the patience to stand absurd people who, despite their chronological age, have not grown up. My time is too short: I want the essence; my spirit is in a hurry. I do not have much candy in the package anymore.I want to live next to humans, very realistic people who know how to laugh at their mistakes and who are not inflated by their own triumphs and who take responsibility for their actions. In this way, human dignity is defended and we live in truth and honesty. It is the essentials that make life useful.I want to surround myself with people who know how to touch the hearts of those whom hard strokes of life have learned to grow with sweet touches of the soul.Yes, I'm in a hurry. I'm in a hurry to live with the intensity that only maturity can give. I do not intend to waste any of the remaining desserts. I am sure they will be exquisite, much more than those eaten so far.My goal is to reach the end satisfied and at peace with my loved ones and my conscience. We have two lives and the second begins when you realize you only have one."Question: Are you spending your time on the right things? Because time is all you have. You're always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe and spread the word with a generous 5-star review and comment - it helps us all - and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Communication Services I Offer✓ For a no-obligation conversation about your communication challenges, get in touch with me today✓ Stay current with Diane as “Wyzga on Words” on SubstackStories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer's Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. When Your Movie Trailer is a Lie 101 This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are breaking down the disappointing box office performance of Snow Brown, talking about Cody vs. Cena, reviewing the last two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, share a very disappointed review for A Working Man, and then it’s on to the Reacher Season 3 finale. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Snow Brown Box Office: Cena vs. Cody: Daredevil: A Working Man: Reacher: Snow Brown Box Office As of March 30, 2025, Snow White has accumulated $66.9 million in the United States and Canada, with an additional $75.8 million from international markets, totaling approximately $142.8 million worldwide. Given the film's substantial production and marketing budget, industry analysts suggest it would need to gross around $500 million globally to break even, indicating potential financial losses for Disney. John Cena and Cody Rhodes Cook on the Road to Wrestlemania On Monday Night Raw at London's O2 Arena, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and John Cena engaged in a heated confrontation ahead of their WrestleMania 41 main event. The segment began with Cena addressing the audience, only to be interrupted by Rhodes, who challenged Cena's recent criticisms. The exchange quickly escalated, with both men delivering personal and intense verbal attacks. Cena accused Rhodes of being a “sociopathic nepo baby” with an inflated ego, referencing his neck tattoo and past gimmicks. Rhodes countered by questioning Cena's authenticity and motivations, suggesting that the fans chose him, whereas Cena was selected by a now-absent figure in WWE management. The confrontation culminated physically when Cena attempted a cheap shot, but Rhodes countered, delivering his signature “Cross Rhodes” maneuver, leaving Cena laid out in the ring. This intense segment has significantly amplified anticipation for their upcoming clash at WrestleMania 41. Daredevil: Born Again (Disney Plus) Episode 5: “With Interest” Out of 5 Please Don’t Remind Us Darryl: 3/5 Brian: 4.03/5 Director: Jeffrey Nachmanoff Writer: Grainne Godfree Air Date: March 25, 2025 Summary: Matt Murdock finds himself entangled in a bank robbery alongside Yusuf Khan, father of Ms. Marvel. While some viewers appreciated the lighter, standalone nature of the episode, others felt it was a filler that didn't advance the main plot. The inclusion of Yusuf Khan was seen by some as a fun MCU connection, while others viewed it as forced. Overall, the episode received mixed reactions, with some enjoying the change of pace and others longing for more substantial narrative progression. Episode 6: “Excessive Force” Out of 5 Dueling Fight Scenes Darryl: 4/5 Brian: 4.13/5 Director: David Boyd Writer: Thomas Wong Air Date: March 25, 2025 Summary: Matt Murdock finally decides that playing dress-up in red spandex is the best way to tackle New York's latest menace—a serial killer named Muse who thinks painting with blood is avant-garde. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk, ever the multitasker, juggles his mayoral duties with forming a secret police squad of “bad apples” to combat vigilantes, because nothing says “law and order” like unchecked brutality. The episode oscillates between Daredevil's gritty showdown with Muse and Fisk's personal therapy session, which involves beating a man senseless in a prison cell. It's a heartwarming tale of two men embracing their true selves: one through morally ambiguous fisticuffs, the other through homicidal rage. Critics have noted that this return to form brings back the “nastiness and grit” reminiscent of the pre-Disney+ days. Overall, it's a delightful reminder that in the Marvel universe, personal growth often involves a healthy dose of violence. A Working Man (2025) Out of 10 Could There Be Any More Temu Batman Villains in One Movie Darryl: 4.25/10 Brian: 4/5 Summary “A Working Man” is a 2025 action thriller directed by David Ayer and co-written by Ayer and Sylvester Stallone. The film follows Levon Cade, portrayed by Jason Statham, a former black ops operative who has left his violent past behind to work in construction and care for his daughter. His attempt at a peaceful life is shattered when his boss's teenage daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers, compelling Levon to employ his lethal skills to rescue her. Writer: Sylvester Stallone, David Ayer Director: David Ayer Producers: David Ayer, Bill Block, John Friedberg, Chris Long, Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone Cast: Jason Statham as Levon Cade Michael Peña as Joe Garcia David Harbour as Gunny Lefferty Jason Flemyng as Wolo Kolisnyk Arianna Rivas as Jenny Garcia Noemi Gonzalez as Carla Garcia Emmett J. Scanlan as Viper Eve Mauro as Artemis Maximilian Osinski as Dimi Kolisnyk Isla Gie as Merry Cade Studio: Amazon MGM Studios Release Date: March 28, 2025 Box Office: As of April 1, 2025, the film has grossed $33.4 million worldwide, with $16.8 million from the United States and Canada, and $16.6 million from other territories. Reacher (Amazon Prime) Finale Out of 5 Stolen But Not Really Stolen Motorcycles Darryl: 4/5 Brian: 4.12/5 Season 3 Out of 10 There’s Always a Bigger Fish Darryl: 8/10 Brian: 8.21/10 Episode Title: “Unfinished Business” Director: Sam Hill Writer: Scott Sullivan Air Date: March 27, 2025 Summary: In the gripping Season 3 finale of Reacher, titled “Unfinished Business,” Jack Reacher and his team confront the treacherous Xavier Quinn at Zachary Beck's estate. The episode features an intense showdown between Reacher and the formidable bodyguard Paulie, culminating in Paulie's demise. Amidst the chaos, Zachary Beck sacrifices himself to protect his son, Richard, from Quinn's wrath. Ultimately, Reacher exacts vengeance on Quinn, bringing their tumultuous history to a close. The season concludes with Reacher parting ways with his allies and riding off on a motorcycle, embodying his solitary nature. Fisk’s plan to rebuild the city’s ports faces several hurdles, including bureaucratic procedures, gang in-fighting, and his protégé Daniel Blake drunkenly leaking details to BB who reports that Fisk is a union buster. As Officer Powell attempts to frame Matt for interfering with police matters, a key witness, Nicky Torres, is pressured into recanting testimony about police misconduct. In a bold courtroom strategy, Matt reveals Hector's identity as White Tiger, shifting jury perception when officers acknowledge his past aid to law enforcement. The GDA, the Guardians, and Earth’s heroes are overwhelmed and suffer heavy losses. Eve is incapacitated; Rex sacrifices himself to save Rudy, Monster Girl, and Bulletproof; Darkwing II is presumed dead; and the Immortal, Kate, Samson, and Shapesmith are wounded. When the surviving Invincibles turn on Angstrom, he traps them on a desolate Earth before battling Mark. Angstrom orders them to fix his wounds, but they refuse, demanding he submit to their will. In the aftermath of Angstrom’s attack, an aged Viltrumite envoy named Conquest arrives to survey Mark’s subjugation of Earth for the Viltrum Empire and is disappointed by his lack of progress. Devastated by the destruction and deaths directed at him, Mark charges at Conquest to vent his rage. Reacher Season 3: Episodes 1-5 (Prime Video) Out of 10 Out of 10 Reacher is So Unstoppable, Gravity is Just a Suggestions Darryl: 7/10 Brian: 7.76/10 Episode 1: Persuader Director: Sam Hill Writer: Scott Sullivan Air Date: February 20, 2025 Summary: In Maine, Reacher saves a man from a kidnapping attempt by shooting the kidnapper. When Reacher accidentally shoots a cop, a police chase ensues. The man, whose name is Richard Beck, reveals to Reacher that someone had kidnapped him before and that his father only paid the ransom when his ear was amputated. Richard takes Reacher home to see his father, Zachary Beck. Reacher meets with Zachary, who thanks him for saving his son but is suspicious of him. Zachary offers Reacher a job if he plays Russian roulette, which he does. Reacher is working undercover for Susan Duffy, a DEA agent who recruited him to find a missing undercover agent, Teresa Daniels, in exchange for helping Reacher deal with a previous nemesis, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Xavier Quinn. To put Reacher undercover, they stage Richard’s kidnapping, with the kidnapper and the cop being DEA agents (Steven Eliot and Guillermo Villanueva) working with Duffy. Reacher sneaks into the garage at night, where he finds and reveals to Duffy that Teresa was there. Episode 2: Truckin' Director: Sam Hill Writer: Penny Cox Air Date: February 20, 2025 Summary: When Duffy learns from Reacher that Teresa is in danger, she beats up the bodyguard they are holding captive to find out what they plan to do with Teresa, but the bodyguard claims he does not know. Reacher has a brief scuffle with hulking bodyguard Paulie before Zachary’s head guard, Chapman Duke, sends Reacher to check out the hijacked cars. Reacher calls Duffy to tell her that it may be a problem for the kidnapping story; Duffy goes to the car yard to retrieve one of the cars. One of Zachary’s associates, Angel Doll, notices the bodyguard’s car but doesn’t see Duffy changed the license plate. Duke orders Reacher to take a truck to New London, Connecticut. Reacher calls Neagley to investigate the people he works with. Reacher meets with Duffy to check the trailer for drugs or Teresa’s body, but they only find carpets. Back in Maine, Doll questions Reacher about his actions at the yard and in the kidnapping, and when Doll tries to tell Duke about his suspicions, Reacher slams his head onto a table, killing him. Episode 3: Number 2 with a Bullet Director: Gary Fleder Writer: Cait Duffy Air Date: February 20, 2025 Summary: After returning from New London, Reacher meets with Zachary over a message from Doll. Reacher tries to make him believe that his partners are trying to betray him and that they should kill them, but Zachary doesn’t listen. After this, Reacher tells Duffy that he has a car ready to go back to the warehouse where he killed Doll. When Reacher arrives at the meeting point, Duffy tells him she will go with him to find Teresa, to which Reacher reluctantly agrees. At the warehouse, Reacher and Duffy search for Teresa and clean up Doll’s remains; two men arrive, and Reacher and Duffy kill them. Duffy keeps Doll’s laptop. The next day, Reacher has to be with Richard in town. Reacher defends him from some thugs, and Richard tells him that Zachary’s boss, Julius McCabe, threatened him and his father. When Reacher returns home, he goes with Duke and Zachary to a cabin, the kidnapper’s hiding spot. Reacher takes the opportunity to kill Duke, fake a shootout and blow up the house; in the car, he wins over Zachary and becomes his number two. Episode 4: Dominique Director: Sam Hill Writer: Lillian Wang Air Date: February 27, 2025 Summary: Reacher heads to Duffy’s house after gaining Zachary’s trust. He discovers that Julius McCabe is Xavier Quinn, whom he believed to be dead. Following the revelation, Reacher tells Duffy how he received a new partner, Dominique Kohl, to investigate a case involving Gorowski. They eventually force Gorowski to tell them that he works for Quinn, selling state secrets because Quinn threatened his family. Reacher and Kohl, along with Anthony Frasconi, intercept one of Quinn’s buyers, a Syrian businessman, Safwan Qasim, whom they force to assist in capturing Quinn. Having evidence to prosecute him, Reacher allows Kohl to arrest Quinn. Quinn instead kidnaps Kohl. In his search for her, Reacher finds Frasconi dead in a house, and later finds Kohl’s bloody body hanging in a cabin; Quinn brutally murdered her. Reacher finds Quinn and shoots him in retaliation, apparently killing him. Back in the present, Zachary sends Reacher to a factory where they have located Doll’s laptop and where Duffy is. Reacher heads to the factory as three of Quinn’s men arrive there. Episode 5: Smackdown Director: Norberto Barba Writer: Scott Sullivan Air Date: March 6, 2025 Summary: When Reacher can’t contact Duffy, he calls Eliot to call the company’s number. When Eliot calls, a gunfight breaks out between Quinn’s men and Duffy and Villanueva; Reacher helps Duffy and Villanueva escape. At the cabin, the captive bodyguard takes advantage of Eliot’s mistake to kill him and escape. After discovering that the feds are spying on them, Quinn’s men move into the house. When Duffy finds Eliot dead and the bodyguard has escaped, she calls Reacher to tell him so and get him out of the house, but Reacher formulates a plan involving Villanueva. Duffy cuts the power and Reacher uses Villanueva as bait to kill the bodyguard. Back at the house, Zachary informs Reacher that Annette, the maid, was an ATF infiltrator and that Paulie has killed her. Reacher tells Duffy that several Feds are spying on them and that Quinn is dealing in firearms, not drugs. The next morning, Zachary informs Reacher that they have been summoned to a factory. Reacher and Zachary arrive there just as they are about to meet Quinn. It was a helluva week. We do get to the baseball but we take a moment to remind you every day is a good day to join the resistance, and do what you can from where you are.  Congrats to the new Hall of Fame class, but is Ichiro rewarding the wrong voter with a drink and a chat? Max and Christian provide an unforgettable afternoon for Little League families in fire-plagued Encino, and Jurickson, Anthony, and Charlie get new gigs.  Meet our boyfriends on the Mariners and D'backs. Ippei Mizuhara's crime gets even nuttier, and yet another young baseball fan turns a special baseball memento into a solid college fund.  Winter ball winds up at the country level as we move into Caribbean Series mode. And there's just a little crosstraining from the Ohio girl/hockey fan.We say, “I've seen the Sound of Music, I know what fascism looks like,” “be a human billboard,” and, “A daily reminder that I have some power, and it's not just the power of cayenne.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com.
