In this episode we dive deep into one of the most powerful concepts I teach inside the Academy and my private coaching: how to eat right for you. I don't believe there's one perfect plan or set of rules—just your unique body, life, and needs. This episode is about learning to trust yourself, understanding your own hunger cues, and letting go of outdated beliefs that no longer serve you. I'll also share why so many of us struggle with food—not because of willpower, but because we've been taught to look outside ourselves for answers. You'll hear how tuning into your body, updating your nutritional understanding, and committing to a sustainable approach can create a truly peaceful relationship with food.   About Clair: CLAIR MACKENZIE IS A LIFE & WEIGHT COACH WHO HELPS FEMALE PROFESSIONALS AND ENTREPRENEURS LOSE WEIGHT BY TRANSFORMING THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD AND THEMSELVES FOR LIFE. Clair's uses an array of coaching tools and techniques to help women, who are done with dieting, take control of their eating whilst increasing their self-belief and self-worth. “There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone overcome their detrimental relationship with food so that they can thrive in optimal physical and mental wellbeing.” After overcoming decades of struggling with her own weight and losing 6 stone Clair used her experience and coaching qualifications to create her two programmes; ‘Lose Weight. Live Life' for her private clients and her ‘My One Life Academy' membership program. Before following her passion to help women lose weight and transform their lives, Clair worked for a global blue-chip organisation in various marketing and consulting roles. Clair has been featured on the BBC, interviewed for various podcasts, and loves speaking about how she helps women at events. Clair lives in rural Warwickshire with her husband, teenage children and their two dogs.   Clair's Links: Facebook Twitter Instagram LinkedIn Website

Did you know that your body has its own unique weight loss blueprint and it might be the key to finally seeing results? In this episode, I explore the concept of obesity phenotypes and why one-size-fits-all approaches to weight loss often fail. I dive into the four main types I see in my practice: Hungry Brain, Emotional Hunger, Hungry Gut, and Slow Burn, and how understanding which one you align with can dramatically improve your treatment strategy. I also reflect on my own experiences, and those of my patients, emphasizing that it's not about willpower but biology and behavior. By identifying your phenotype, you can better tailor diets, medications, and lifestyle changes that work with your body instead of against it. Did you know that some weight loss medications can help people lose up to 20% of their body weight, comparable to bariatric surgery outcomes? In this episode, I dive into the latest research comparing two major weight loss medications, Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide), based on findings from the 72-week SURMOUNT-5 trial. I explain how Zepbound led to greater weight loss (about 20.2% vs. 13.7% with Wegovy), possibly due to its dual action on GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Both drugs were generally well tolerated, with similar side effects like nausea and constipation, though Wegovy had slightly more people stop due to GI issues. I also emphasize that while Zepbound may appear more effective, individual needs, such as cardiovascular health or sleep apnea, should guide treatment decisions. Lastly, I remind you that sustainable weight loss requires patience, realistic expectations, and a holistic approach that includes lifestyle changes, not just medication. Tune in to this episode to learn which weight loss medication might be right for you and why your journey to health is more than just the number on the scale.   Episode Highlights: Comparison of Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide) Average weight loss outcomes and waist circumference changes between both medications Mechanism of action: GLP-1 vs. dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor targeting Side effect profiles and tolerability of both medications FDA approval differences, including cardiovascular risk reduction and sleep apnea treatment Importance of personalized treatment plans and setting realistic weight loss expectations Ongoing research into oral formulations and long-term safety studies Connect with Dr. Alicia Shelly: Website | drshellymd.com Facebook | www.facebook.com/drshellymd Instagram | @drshellymd Linked In | www.linkedin.com/in/drshellymd Twitter | @drshellymd About Dr. Alicia Shelly Dr. Alicia Shelly was raised in Atlanta, GA. W tym odcinku dzielimy się naszymi refleksjami z trzydniowej konferencji „Live Life Now” w Sopocie.

Have you ever wondered how obesity can raise the risk for certain cancers? Today's episode breaks down the real connection in a simple, honest way — and why it matters for your health and future. In this episode, I talk about how excess body weight can lead to chronic inflammation, raise hormone levels like estrogen and insulin, and create an environment where cancer cells can grow more easily. I explain how obesity is linked to at least 13 types of cancers, including breast, colon, and liver cancers. We also discuss the critical role of preventive screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies, especially for those with a higher risk. I share why knowing your family history is important and why many people with obesity miss out on necessary tests because of weight stigma and bias in healthcare. We cover real-life challenges, like how medical equipment isn't always designed for larger bodies, and how that creates serious barriers. I also dive into hopeful news about how weight loss, medications like metformin, orlistat, and GLP-1 receptor agonists can help lower cancer risks. Throughout the conversation, I emphasize that compassionate, respectful care is a right, not a privilege. Listen to the full episode to learn how to advocate for yourself, find the right doctors, and take powerful steps toward protecting your health. You are worthy of good care at every stage of your journey.   Episode Highlights: How obesity leads to chronic inflammation and raises hormone levels linked to cancer The connection between obesity and at least 13 types of cancer The importance of early cancer screenings and knowing your family medical history How weight stigma and bias affect access to healthcare and screenings The physical barriers larger patients face in medical settings How weight loss can lower cancer risk and improve overall health The role of medications like metformin, orlistat, and GLP-1 receptor agonists in reducing cancer risk Encouragement to seek compassionate, weight-inclusive healthcare Practical steps for patients to advocate for respectful and appropriate care Connect with Dr. Alicia Shelly: Website | drshellymd.com Facebook | www.facebook.com/drshellymd Instagram | @drshellymd Linked In | www.linkedin.com/in/drshellymd Twitter | @drshellymd About Dr. Alicia Shelly Dr. Alicia Shelly was raised in Atlanta, GA.
