Sudden Impact made their tag team debut in Japan in October of 1991. It was Lance Storm and Chris Jericho at Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling aka FMW. The duo were barely a year into their wrestling careers when this tour opportunity arose, and they recount their nearly three-week trip overseas. They remember how they got the chance to travel to Japan, what it was like boarding the plane with no visa or actual contact information for anyone at FMW. They share stories about FMW promoter Onita, his right-hand man, Goto, and their fellow Gaijin wrestlers on the show including Mark Starr, Horace Boulder (Hulk Hogan's nephew), and Mike Awesome. They share some of the ribs pulled on this trip, the story about their $600 drinking bar adventure, and they break down each one of their Japanese matches. Thank you for supporting our sponsors!FanDuel: download the FanDuel app & use promo code JERICHO to get up a “No Sweat First Bet” up to $1,000 dollars.Urban Stems: Go to https://urbanstems.com/ and use promo code JERICHO for 15% off.PajamaGram: Go to https://www.pajamagram.com/ and use promo code NUDE for 25% off and FREE gift wrappingPandora: Find a gift as unique as your love! Dr. Mark Starr – How Your Thyroid Gland Could Be The Root Cause Of Your Health Issues

[include file=get-in-itunes.html] Dr. Mark Starr from 21CenturyMed.com and author of Hypothyroidism Type 2 The Epidemic. In my opinion Dr. Mark Starr is the worlds foremost authority on the thyroid gland. He stopped by today to talk about how thyroid health is connected to our overall health in ways that most people never understand. The thyroid gland happens to attract lots of chemicals, toxins, xeno estrogens and phthalates from plastic, heavy metals and lots of other environmental poisons. Because one of its main jobs it to regulate the distribution of hormones throughout the body, you can see how having low thyroid can affect almost everything we do. Obviously one of the ways to protect the thyroid gland is to limit your exposure to toxins that damage your thyroid. These toxins are found everywhere in our lives. They're in the food we eat (especially if it isn't organic), the air we breathe (car exhaust, chemtrails, second hand smoke, paints etc), and the water we drink (fluoride, benzene, and chloride). After you reduce your exposure as best you can to environmental pollution, you'll want to start to support the health of your thyroid gland using things like desecated thyroid supplements and even lugols iodine in different ways. Since the thyroid gland is linked to diseases like cancer, and heart attacks (the #1 and #2 killers in the western world) it's really important to make sure your thyroid gland is working properly so you can live a long healthy disease free life! Our hormones are the master switches to health and everything runs off of our hormones. If your hormone levels are off then you're going to have more problems with your health than you ever thought possible. Did you know that your hormones (and thus your thyroid gland) are linked to... Appetite issues Autoimmune conditions, including allergies, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis Blood sugar disorders, such as diabetes, hypoglycemia Cancers Cardiovascular abnormalities, including high cholesterol, poor circulation, heart palpitations, hypertension (high blood pressure), and low blood pressure Dental problems Fatigue and lethargy Irritable bowel syndrome Constipation Heart conditions, including coronary artery disease from accelerated atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), abnormal blood pressure (either too high or too low), diminished cardiac output, weakness of the heart muscle, and congestive heart failure Hoarseness of voice, difficulty in swallowing, swollen enlarged tongue, and sleep apnea Candida albicans Anxiety, depression, memory loss, psychosis, and schizophrenia Weight gain Muscular disturbances, including ataxia (lack of coordination), carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and weakness Neurological impairment --> deafness, tinnitus, vertigo), headaches, migraines, Multiple Sclerosis, numbness and “pins and needles” in nerves) Pain in joints and muscles --> arthritis and fibromyalgia Perspiration reduction Reproductive disorders --> defects, cysts in breasts and ovaries, endometriosis, infertility, and menstrual disturbances Respiratory conditions, including asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, and chronic sinus infections Skin disorders, including acne, alopecia (hair loss), boils, dryness, eczema, hives, and psoriasis Sleepiness and sleep apnea. Slowed movement and speech Structural weaknesses/deformities and impaired ability to repair damaged tissues, manifesting in brittle nails, brittle or scant hair (including baldness), degenerating bones (osteoporosis), malformed bones (scoliosis), and thinning and loss of eyebrows Temperature regulation malfunction: intolerance to heat, and excessive coldness, particularly in extremities. It’s almost impossible to completely escape the toxins in our environment that make us sick. But there are ways to limit their impact and detoxify your body. The truth is, it’s not as complicated to detoxify as many might think. You just need the right knowledge and the commitment to make it happen. Bridgit Danner has been a licensed acupuncturist since 2004 and a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition practitioner since 2015. After spending many years constantly sick from toxic mold, Bridgit has dedicated herself to educating people about toxins and coaches women on how to detoxify through a functional approach. Today Bridgit shares what she has learned about detoxifying your environment for a healthier life. She tells us what we need to avoid and what to seek out to stay healthy. This is great advice for anyone, and Bridgit also shares some solid tips specifically for high-level athletes. She even shares what she’s learned about the dangers of many household products as well as safer alternatives to seek out. Have you taken steps to reduce the toxins around you? The fact of the matter is that no single diet will solve all your problems. For most of us, a well-rounded and informed approach is key. That’s why I’ve brought someone onto this podcast who is an expert in helping people find the approach that works best for them. Ashleigh Vanhouten is an author, coach, speaker, interviewer of badass women, and the host of two podcasts. Ever since she was young, Ashleigh has been driven by her natural sense of curiosity to learn as much as possible about fitness. She works with Paleo Magazine, where she develops features about people and companies doing incredible things in health and wellness, as well as nutrition research articles, product reviews, and more. Her mission is to support others on their own journey towards creating their own optimal, primally-aligned lifestyle. Ashleigh and I cover a number of great topics today. We discuss what it means to be metabolically flexible and how it can help people lead well-rounded and healthy lifestyles. Ashleigh tells us why a good diet doesn’t have to be complicated but should revolve around simply eating well. We also talk about effective training regimens and why this is different from simply working out. We also cover why strength-training is so very crucial to long-lasting health. Many people can be intimidated by this, but Ashleigh goes over how she approaches the subject with those who are feeling hesitant to start using the heavier weights. We even cover how to maintain your sense of identity among all the images and ideas of what strength-training is “supposed” to look like.  How do you find balance in how you train and diet with your everyday lifestyle? Leave a comment on the episode page!   In this episode Harnessing your innate curiosity to discover where your passions lie What it means to be metabolically flexible and how you can achieve it The difference between training and exercising and why the distinction matters Why you can’t properly train through low-impact exercises alone Why strength-training and femininity are not mutually exclusive concepts Determining a measure of success that is personally meaningful   Quotes “You don’t want to be so reliant on whatever your diet methodology is that you fall apart if you don’t have it.” [9:20] “It is absolutely healthy to have a goal. You need to pick a healthy goal and do it in a healthy way, but always having something on the horizon is a healthy way for your brain to work because we’re goal-oriented creatures.” [18:40] “Every new skill is scary until you know how to do it.” [26:50] “There are no shortcuts, there really are not. We love to think that there are. We love to think that the nootropics and the keto fast and all this stuff is going to sort us out quicker, but it’s just about understanding yourself and doing the hard work and it takes time.” [40:36]   Links Find Ashleigh Vanhouten online Follow Ashleigh on Instagram Society Nine EverybodyFights   Check out the full show notes for this episode here Urban Wellness Clinic Follow Emily & Urban Wellness on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube Hypothyroidism Type 2 by Mark Starr, MD(H)

Rehab that involves tendons can be slow and frustrating. It may seem painful and like little progress is ever being made. The truth is, there’s a lot we still don’t fully understand about tendons. That’s why I’m talking today to one of the foremost experts in tendon pathology to try to make more sense of exactly how these important parts of our bodies function and heal. Jill Cook, Ph.D., is a physiotherapist, musculoskeletal researcher, and professor. Her main interests are in connective tissue function, injury, and healing with a specific focus on the risk factors for tendon injury and the tendon in growth and development. She is currently working in the Musculoskeletal Research Centre at La Trobe University and at the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research at Deakin University. Today, Jill is explaining just what our tendons are, how they work, and how to heal them after an injury. Jill tells us how our tendons are the “springs” of our bodies that allow us to move in so many important ways. You’re going to walk away from this episode with a new appreciation for your tendons, how to prevent injuries, and how to help heal old ones. Have you gone through rehab for a tendon injury? Tell me how it went in the comments on the episode page!   In this episode How to diagnose issues with your tendons and common myths to ignore Why medical imaging is not useful for diagnosing problems with your tendons Some of the common causes of tendon breakdown to be aware of other than biomechanics Why cortisone and stem-cell injections won’t solve your tendon problems The reasons why loading programs are the most effective way to strengthen and heal tendons How to help people heal the psychological wounds from a tendon injury   Quotes “You can have profound tendon pathology and never have a symptom. So you can’t look at a picture of someone who has tendon pain and say that’s the source of the symptoms. It might be, but it might not be.” [7:15] “There isn't a quick fix for tendons. People want something that’s latest, greatest, expensive; they’re not always the answer for tendons. The answer is unless you have the capacity in your tendon, muscle, kinetic chain and brain, then you’re going to have tendon pain.” [16:25] “It doesn’t matter what you inject into the tendon, you’re not going to change the structure back to normal. Nothing will change tendon structure back to normal.”  [17:31]   Links Follow Jill Cook on Twitter Episode 24 with Brett Winchester   Check out the full show notes for this episode here Urban Wellness Clinic Follow Emily & Urban Wellness on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube Hypothyroidism Type 2 by Mark Starr, MD(H)

We are all goal setters. But setting goals is easy. Making the sacrifices and doing the work necessary to achieve them is hard. Without the right mindset, you’re going nowhere. But how can you keep your goals centered in your priorities when it seems so difficult, unclear, or overwhelming? My guest on this episode has dedicated his life to helping people answer those questions. Dr. Jeff Spencer, often called part doctor, part guru, part medicine man, made a promise to himself when he was eleven years old to become an Olympic athlete. Since then, he’s been setting and completing similar goals for himself and helping others, like Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong, to do the same.  In our chat today, Jeff shares the qualities he feels are necessary to motivate us to set and accomplish big personal challenges. Jeff explains how this is all part of the bigger picture of creating a life of value that allows us to give back to others. As he tells us, it’s not an easy process, but nothing worth having ever comes easy. To help break it all down, Jeff lays out the fundamentals of his Goal Achievement Roadmap that is aimed at helping anyone see their goals through to fruition.  What’s standing in the way of achieving your goals? What can you change today to make them a reality? Leave a comment on the episode page!   In this episode Creating a mindset that encourages and supports you in the great accomplishments you set out to achieve The power of your achievements to motivate and inspire others The greatest myth that keeps people from achieving their goals Important steps in preparation that can’t be ignored if you’re going to succeed at anything Training your mindset to operate from a place of courage, not fear Recognizing the champion’s mindset in others and learning from their example Why it’s important to put yourself in uncomfortable situations if you’re going to move forward   Quotes “It’s always been about honoring the opportunity to express the talents that we’re all gifted with and I feel like we’re all honor-bound to do that. That’s why we’re here on this earth.”  [4:46] “Your performance is solely dictated by your preparation.” [11:54] “When we put ourselves in the presence of people who have done things we aspire to, it helps us get over our self-consciousness about what we feel about ourselves and how we may appear to them.” [29:13] “In your worst moment, you may not believe it, but that’s your best opportunity because you will be forced to look at things in a different way and your best work will manifest.” [34:06] “To learn to achieve your goals is life’s fundamental skill. And then when we get on the ladder, then we can climb the ladder to whichever level we aspire to.”  [42:45]   Links The Goal Achievement Roadmap Find Dr. Jeff Spencer online Follow Jeff on Twitter | Facebook   Check out the full show notes for this episode here Urban Wellness Clinic Follow Emily & Urban Wellness on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube Hypothyroidism Type 2 by Mark Starr, MD(H)

We talk a lot on this show about how to feed, train, and rehab our largest organ, our muscles. There are countless ways that people can exercise, but all of them will fall short of providing the benefits that come from a workout regimen based on strength training. To drive this point home, I’ve brought in an old friend and a real expert in this field. I’ve known Dr. Tyna Moore since we went to chiropractor school together. In addition to being a chiropractor, she’s a naturopath who focuses on the application of natural pain solutions and regenerative injection therapies to treat all varieties of musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Tyna has spoken at numerous conferences all over the country as well as offering several online programs to the public. In our talk today, Dr. Tyna and I discuss the importance of strength training and why it can’t be ignored, especially as we get older. There are many different types of workouts, but it really is proper strength training that will keep us healthy and strong throughout life. Dr. Tyna also discuses her specialty of regenerative injection therapies to help people rehab, including when they’re helpful and when they’re not. How has strength training made improvements to your overall health? Let me know in the comments on the episode page!   In this episode What happens when you shift from cardio-based workout to strength training Strength training’s ability to help you hone your vitality throughout life The role of regenerative injection therapies in rehab and their limitations Factors beyond muscle mass that are important in healing The connection between low thyroid and low muscle mass Where people who are new to strength training can go to start out   Quotes “If you don’t strength-train, you’re missing out on all the benefits and then none of the other therapies really stick.” [5:20] “Strength training makes you take better care of yourself because you can’t get any gains if you don’t do it.” [12:12] “I think a lot of muscular-skeletal pain that we’re all seeing is potentially a thyroid issue.” [34:21] “I want to be handy to my fellow humans. If you’re weak and sick and deconditioned, you are a huge load on the system. Think about the impact and the financial and the emotional burden that we are all having on society if we don’t keep ourselves well and strong.” [38:24]   Subscribe & Review Muscle Medicine in Apple Podcasts Are you subscribed to Muscle Medicine Podcast? Dedication - Since our last episode was released Todd's Mother passed away...he offers up a short little story and a dedicates this episode to his mom [Photo Right, Todd and his Mom in 1980] Survey - Todd discusses the survey results done by you, our listeners. We thank you for being honest, giving us feedback and helping us guide future episodes. Such a great way to help make our show better for the listeners. How refers back to our World of Motion episode and also gives some more insight. Next, we here from Mark Starr, asking if we remember the blue mayonaisse. Brian informs us of some other colored condiments at Cosmic Ray's. Brian also mentions a tweet from Kate, regarding a 1994 Magic Kingdom Map. Kate was asking about the Timekeeper building and Brian gives us the full story. "The night had a cool chill to it, like most nights in san francisco, once we entered the castle like building, and heard the thump of the bass, our hearts began to warm us up from within. Could this be the place? We asked to ourselves as we placed one foot in front of the other, this must be it. The stairs to us on a beautiful journey filled with stories you only read about in fairy tales. Upon entering the gala, we were greeted the most luxurious of attendees, dressed to the nine’s with smiles and smirks galore. We had landed in a dream filled with ultimate possibilities and desires. We continued on our path deeper in the reds of our hearts, our souls, we were there. The night had only just begun, with new friends we journeyed as deep as we could go in such a magical story filed location. It was warm, as warm as the best hug you have had with multiple friends at once, only the warmest you could dream about. I setup my gear, and closed my eyes, and with the crack of a whip to open my mind, I played my first tune to a group of beautiful men, women & freaks. To you all, I salute you for joining me at Deep Red. Until the next time we meet, when we shimmer in the light, under the moons gaze." -VITAMINDEVO Follow VITAMINDEVO: www.vitamindevo.com www.lasernative.com www.soundcloud.com/vitamindevo www.facebook.com/vitamindevo www.twitter.com/vitamindevo Follow Opel: www.opelproductions.com www.soundcloud.com/opelproductions www.facebook.com/opelproductions www.twitter.com/opelproductions Track List: 1. Just call 1-877-209-9439 and leave a voicemail, leave a Skype voicemail to username "pacificfit", or e-mail ben@bengreenfieldfitness.com. Listener Sean asks: My question is, do you have any literature or information about athletes with low testosterone and how it affects their training. I've listened to your podcast about your own battle with Low T. Besides any supplements or medication, do you think it takes a guy like me, more time to reach the desired results due to my low testosterone? In my response to magnesium, I mention the oral magnesium and the topical magnesium that I personally use. Listener Patrick asks: "For a long distance training plan (like the Marathon/Triathlon Dominator) how much fitness is really gained in the last big month of volume. I'm on the Triathlon Dominator plan and am 3 weeks into the last 5 week kick of volume before the taper. I'd be interested to know how much all this volume really amounts to on race day. I get the feeling that it might not make much of a difference from a fitness perspective, but perhaps help a lot more from a mental perspective; enhancing things like visualization, self-esteem and self-confidence that your body can handle the stresses of race day." Listener Gabe asks: I'm on a budget, but committed to improving my health. If you had to choose (I know you don't ; ) would you take EnerPrime as a first priority, or is it needed if you were taking Living Fuel greens as a meal replacement? Also, speaking of budget, which supplements would you say are the MOST valuable in order of priority to start with (greens, multi vitamins, essential fats, etc)? I have less than $100 per month to work with for supplements; what would you do in this case? Both supplements Gabe mentioned can be found here. Listener Laurel asks: I just pulled something in my back doing squats without a squat rack-putting the weights down when I was done. I am trying to get my left quad back from an acl injury, and I think squats are some of the best exercises. Are there better (safer) ones to do at home? There are so many slang terms for exercises, is there a place to look them up? Balance exercises, one leg exercises, proprioception, etc. Good resource for exercises http://www.pacificfit.net/exercises.php and http://www.youtube.com/bengreenfieldfitness. Listener Patricks asks: What is your opinion on Very Low Carbohydrate Ketogenic Diets? In studying for the test and reading Volek & Forsythe's chapter on VLCKDs, they basically praise it to the skies as a new, cutting edge way to increase your metabolism and lose weight. "Studies support the notion that short-term VLCKDs are safe and effective in terms of promoting weight/fat loss, improving metabolic and cardivascular risk factors and are compatible with a physically active lifestyle ... there is sufficient scientific research to safely prescribe a VLCKD as an option to those people who prefer this approach..." They mean "compatible with a physically active lifestyle" in the sense that it "can adversely affect performance for the first week, but longer adaptation (4-6 weeks) to the diet does not significantly impair physical performance." Listener Jason has a call-in question about Ironman fueling, and I direct him to Triathlon Dominator. Listener Jennifer has a call-in question about circulation.
