SUMMARY In Luke 5:1-11, we encounter a pivotal moment in the life of Simon Peter, a seasoned fisherman. Frustrated after a night of failed fishing and washing his nets, Peter experiences a life-altering encounter when Jesus steps into his boat. This narrative illustrates the significance of being open to Jesus' presence, especially during times of struggle, highlighting how faith and obedience to His guidance can lead to profound transformation. The central theme of this discussion revolves around Peter's encounter with Jesus, which serves as a metaphor for how individuals experiencing emotional and spiritual turbulence can find redemption and purpose by inviting Jesus into their lives. This moment of vulnerability ultimately leads to Peter's recognition of his own inadequacy and the divine potential that Jesus sees within him, ultimately guiding him to a new mission. Peter's journey from a discouraged fisherman to a devoted follower of Christ emphasizes the importance of being receptive to divine intervention during life's challenges. His story teaches us that by allowing Jesus into our struggles—through faith and obedience—we can experience transformative moments that will not only redefine our lives but also equip us for greater purposes aligned with God's will. This encounter challenges us to reflect on our own openness to Jesus and His command in our lives. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Invitation Matters: The importance of inviting Jesus into our lives during moments of desperation. Obedience Brings Change: Peter's obedience to Jesus' command resulted in an extraordinary catch of fish, symbolizing the blessings that come with following divine instructions. Recognizing Divine Potential: Peter's realization of his sinfulness in the presence of Jesus highlights the need for humility and an awareness of God's greatness. God's Purpose in Life's Struggles: Life's trials can serve as opportunities for God to reveal Himself and redirect our paths. Transformation Through Encounter: Genuine encounters with Jesus lead to life-changing decisions and a new sense of purpose.

Ep. 43 (Part 3 of 3) | Beena Sharma, president of the Vertical Development Academy (VeDA), gives a beautifully cogent explanation of the 8-stage, full spectrum model of adult psychological development, Vertical Development, illuminating us not only to the characteristics of each stage of development, but the implications and ramifications of each stage, the process of human development as a whole, and how this model can help us face our current metacrisis. Beena describes how “each stage is a way of seeing the world and oneself, a constellation of our beliefs and assumptions,” and we discover that our development takes form in patterns of evolving worldviews, a progression of capacities with which we make sense of the world. On an individual level, Beena asks, “Where is your foot nailed to the floor? Where are parts of you still ahead of you? How can this framework help you make a shift?” And collectively, “What does it mean for the human being to evolve? What makes us think humans at this time are at the end of the evolutionary ladder?” Vertical development focuses on the evolving ego, and interestingly, takes us to the stage where we realize the ego itself is only a construct—and beyond. As well as a brilliant unpacking of the vertical development model, this is a profound, warm-hearted conversation, about human evolution and possibility, the dance of the dual and the nondual, the infinitude of the psyche, and what it means to come home to oneself. Recorded July 13, 2022. "Everything is a dance of the dual and the nondual." Topics & Time Stamps - Part 2In this framework, an arc represents the ego's process of development, with the self-determining stage being the top of the arc (01:38) Self-questioning stage: you realize you are not as independent as you thought—you are conditioned, shaped, and molded by your context (02:30) Resolution of the problems in the previous stage come in the new stage (06:41) The biggest shift is between the self-determining self and the self-authoring self—and Integral Theory's mean green meme (07:14) Self-actualizing stage, where you realize it's both all relative and there are also some absolutes, and systems thinking comes online internally and externally (10:37) Complexity thinking skills can be taught and learned (13:56) Self-actualizing stage continued: looking for and integrating higher wisdom, for “and” as well as either/or thinking (18:45) The shadow of the self-actualizing stage (22:11) Construct-aware stage: seeing that all the ideas you have are only constructs, abstractions, there is no reality “out there;” the ego itself begins to see it's only a construct (23:41) This stage illuminates 3 things: existentialism, the wisdom traditions' concept of emptiness and liberation, and the postmodern stage of deconstructionism (28:47) The Hindu god Shiva, half masculine/half feminine, is personified yin/yang, where all opposites are integrated, the potential of our human form to be in harmony with both emptiness and form (37:33) Transcendent or unitive stage: falling into no boundaries, falling into the now, recognizing we are all one (39:04) This particular adult development framework bridges psychological development with spiritual development, where other frameworks do not (40:58) This is a “full spectrum perspective” on human development and possibility, as Ken Wilber described (42:09) Translation: how do we bring this framework into service? Topics & Time Stamps - Part 1Introducing teacher and developmental coach Beena Sharma (01:45) The most exciting discovery in psychology is that psychological development and maturity can continue far beyond our 20s, and beyond our conception of “normality” (02:51) We are being evolved; we are transitional beings. Nature's secret is the evolutionary process (05:15) Exploring human development and the farther reaches of human possibilities: what does it mean for adults to mature? (06:52) Jane Loevinger's research showed patterns of evolving worldviews, a progression of capacities to make sense of the world, the trajectory revealed through the stories people tell (11:12) Creating space for the process of development, i.e. not using words like higher and lower, saying instead earlier and later (15:26) Maturity is coming to new understandings about what is real, giving up our assumptions, subject becomes object (18:58) Stages of development is a psychoactive model: just understanding that further development is possible helps us grow into our potentials (21:00) Using this framework in an ethical way: be careful not to use it in a reductionist way and label people as inferior; hold it lightly, the stages are idealizations (23:35) What happens over the course of development? How do we get there? Vertical development is an outcome rather than a goal (27:29) Self-centric stage: self-preservation and survival (29:32) Group-centric: the “socialized” stage, where you want to fit in and belong (32:22) Skill-centric stage: my identity is defined by what I do, not what I am (35:25) The triumph of stepping into the next worldview, the next stage (35:55) Loving people at whatever level they are at: “the earlier the stage, the greater the gift; the later the stage, the greater the promise.” (39:08) Earlier stages are not negative, but they are more limited in capacity (40:45) The crisis in parenting, in grandparenting, in ancestoring (44:29) Self-determining stage: now I am an independent agent, the master of my destiny, capable of choice and a healing objectivity (46:15) Preconventional, conventional, postconventional stages (52:04) This...

This episode of 2Days Denarius is the conclusion of the three-part Divine and Supernatural Light series. This phrase was coined by Jonathan Edwards as a description of salvation in a sermon he preached in the 1730s that demonstrated salvation to be a supernatural work of God with no additives. Edwards's experience was much like many of the evangelical conversions in his time, that included, strong, deep periods of conviction, a true calling of the Holy Spirit in the individual, an opportunity to receive Christ, and full regeneration, which is the Holy Spirit bringing new life to the our spiritual deadness - or a new sense of things, as Edwards described it. The Doctrine of Salvation (or Soteriology, as educators call) it, is vital to get right as it gets to the core of how we can have a relationship with God. Jesus said He is the way, the truth and the life in John 14:6. He added that no one can come to the father, but through Him. All three parts of this series are essential to understanding redemption that was accomplished for us and applied for the saved to follow Christ. Much of this true gospel message has been marred in our times, but it is only the way of the cross that leads home. What happens when we not only change our perspective, but change how we see ourselves altogether? In this episode you'll have the opportunity to listen in and follow along as I guide an audience member through a process of using movement to dismantle his assumptions about himself. You'll see that at times there's incredibly fertile soil in confusion - that in fact comfort with "not knowing" is exactly what's needed for creative problem solving. Along the way you'll hear how together Glenn and I create a context for his own brilliance to emerge. I hope you enjoy.

Back in the 60s and 70s people were going out to "find themselves", which was going in the wrong direction. You need to find your purpose in Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit seeking God's will in your life. There's an Ethiopian church that meets at one of my church's houses. They trace their beliefs to 2 people in the Bible. Those 2 people had a purpose. What's yours? Bible Verse in this Episode: Acts 8:26-39 If you want to find your purpose in life, first become a born-again believer by praying this prayer... “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.” More on my blog... As fire season gets ready to blaze into full force communities around California are getting ready too. In some places this means clearing out excess vegetation, elsewhere it means hardening homes to make them more resilient to fire -- but no matter the work, it's more and more clear that Californians are approaching it with a new sense of urgency prompted by the past two years of devastating fire seasons. There is still more work to be done, and if we're lucky more time to do it, so on this edition of In Depth we speak to fire prevention experts to learn what steps we should all be taking to make sure our communities are well prepared if a major wildfire should strike. Host: KCBS reporter Keith Menconi Guests: Todd Lando, executive coordinator at Fire Safe Marin Lucas Spelman, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Resources Firewise, a national program from the National Fire Protection Association, which recognizes communities that meet certain fire safety standards and provides those communities with support. Omri Tal (CPNSS/LSE) gives a talk at the MCMP Colloquium (17 April, 2013) titled "From Shannon's Axiomatic Approach to a New Sense of Biological Information". Abstract: Shannon famously remarked that a single concept of information could not satisfactorily account for the numerous possible applications of the general field of communication theory. Recent interest in assessing the ‘population signal’ from genetic samples has mainly focused on empirical results. I employ some basic principles from Shannon’s work on information theory (Shannon 1948) to develop a measure of information for extracting ‘population structure’ from genetic data. This sense of information is somewhat less abstract than entropy or Kolmogorov Complexity and is utility-oriented. Specifically, given a collection of genotypes sampled from known multiple populations I would like to quantify the potential for correct classification of genotypes of unknown origin. Motivated by Shannon's axiomatic approach in deriving a unique information measure for communication, I first identify a set of intuitively justifiable criteria that any such quantitative information measure should satisfy. I will show that standard information-theoretic concepts such as mutual information or relative entropy cannot satisfactorily account for this sense of information, necessitating a decision-theoretic approach.

At 48 years of age, Debs life flipped over and left her with a son, no viable career and suddenly premenopausal, she was in shock ‘menopause’ started so young for her! Not prepared for that, it took Debs 6 years of learning, experimenting and tears to manage her symptoms, but also to hear the lessons nature was teaching her. She slowly began to emerge with renewed strength, wisdom and vitality. During the 6-years Debs studied and became a Yoga teacher deepening her own spiritual training but one thing eluded her, how to make a living from her spiritual gifts. Going back to work in an office she became ill. In the ensuing recovery period, she had a dream and ‘heard’ a voice say, “You have four presents all wrapped in shiny paper, gifts on four levels, go and share them with perimenopausal women”. That was unexpected, but that dream was powerful and she knew, going back to office life was not an option. What became an option Debs created a retreat, advertised it and to her delight gained clients. Life offers us doorways you can ignore or take and if you take a risk it can create your new path. Debs asks “What would you love to do, you’d do it for love?” Debs offers this suggestion, since nature has a gift for you, if you are wondering about your future, once you recalibrate yourself then identify and gather all your skills together with a new sense of self then you are ready to move forward faster so get the best business mentor or coach you can. The greatest benefit Debs now experiences is the feeling of being deeply content with her life and you can too. To learn more visit debsdevries.com/blog & YouTube: Debs de Vries Menopause Mentoring.

dattrax mini bio part 11… JIM: “My earliest recollections of listening to music, was listening to my Dad belting out the entire Beatles catalogue from the back seat of our yellow Volkswagen beetle- Hey, it was the seventies! My Dad had a decent collection of vinyl, the entire Beatles collection, a serious Elvis collector and a huge country western collection. It only ever seemed strange to other people, a Greek guy who liked country. I grew up around it, so I thought everybody’s Dad liked country. I still remember me and my sister trying to get him not to sing “make the world go away” in the shower because we needed a quiet room to record, Duran Duran’s “The Reflex”, from the radio. Having an older sister in the eighties, makes you an automatic fan of stuff like the Culture Club, Wham, Cindy Lauper, Madonna, and the Eurythmics. It was all great, and it was our top 40, our New Kids on the Block/N’Sync/Britney/Christina/Beyonce/Lady Gaga or whatever. Enter High School, enter cliques, and enter personality definition through music. I grew up on a steady diet of what was then alternative pop music, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, The Smiths, Erasure… If it had an electronic feel, a steady kick and it made you happy one day and sad the next, that’s what I listen to. I didn’t paint my nails black and put on the Cure make up, but a steady diet of Joy Division, will make you think about it. Just kidding, my families’ Greek and they hit hard!” BTW... if you enjoy this mix, then why don't you buy us a beer? There's a PayPal DONATE button on the top right side of this website.
