Nnedi Okorafor is back on 1A. And this time, the award-winning speculative fiction author is turning her eyes and her pen from the stars to a story a little closer to reality. But not by much."Death of the Author" is her latest novel. It's a book within a book that follows the story of a Nigerian author who publishes a work of science fiction that ends up affecting things far beyond her lifetime. Okorafor's book grapples with the relationship between art and artificial intelligence and the question of who controls a story. We sit down with the author to talk about these themes and more.Want to support 1A? What happens when an author's voice lingers long after the story ends? In this episode, we dive into the brilliant mind of Nnedi Okorafor, the award-winning pioneer of Africanfuturism, as she challenges the concept of authorial control in her provocative new novel, Death of the Author. Known for blending African mythology, science fiction, and deeply personal narratives, Okorafor's latest work isn't just a book—it's a reckoning.
Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor is a novel about what it means to be a storyteller, told in an ingenious blend of sci-fi and literary fiction. Okorafor joins us to talk about what freedom means, technology and authenticity, the personal nature of this story and more with Miwa Messer, host of Poured Over. This episode of Poured Over was hosted by Miwa Messer and mixed by Harry Liang. New episodes land Tuesdays and Thursdays (with occasional Saturdays) here and on your favorite podcast app. Featured Books (Episode): Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor
Hour 3 - During the third hour of the WEEI Afternoon Show the guys discuss how Jacoby Brissett is a little bit out of his element having to scramble so much. No help coming timing to the offensive line. Lowe is what he is, no more Okorafor. Will this be a problem all year long? This is not a good offensive line.
Nnedi Okorafor has been pioneering African Futurism since she began writing, from her award-winning book ‘Who Fears Death' to the critically-acclaimed Akata Witch series. ‘She Who Knows: Firespitter' continues to weave science fiction with the African world, exploring what happens when a young girl is chosen for a journey reserved only for boys and men. Reset sat down with Okorafor to learn about the story and her world-building process. For a full archive of Reset interviews, head over to wbez.org/reset.
Send us a Text Message.Who doesn't love a book steeped in myth, legend, and local culture? Well, we certainly love them and are leaning into our fangirling over Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor. Sunny is tearing up the football pitch at the Zuma games, getting in touch with her spirit face, and finding her place in her coven. We do have some questions though. For example, can Darlene make it through the author bio without laughing about Dr. Okorafor's cats? Is Anatov the best teacher we've encountered in a book we've covered for the pod even if he frequently almost gets his students killed? Are all of the spirit faces in Sugar Cream's office waiting for a new leopard person to be born or is it more like a Hall of Fame of great spirit faces? If we get really brave we may just ask the author on twitter. We're diving deep into bodily humors and archetypes, depictions of multilingual communities, and summoning masquerades. Bergin explains the Steelers' options for the quarterback position in 2024. It includes trying to re-sign Mason Rudolph. The Steelers cut Mitch Trubisky Monday after two seasons with the team. Trubisky was a former 2nd overall pick and people thought he maybe could do something for the team. He sat behind Josh Allen and guided the Bears to the playoffs before being a Steeler. Mark Kaboly thinks it's one of the worst free agency signings in team history!
Hour 1 with Adam Crowley and Paul Zeise: The Steelers are reportedly going to go out and get a quarterback, which could be Justin Fields or Russell Wilson. Would Wilson on a minimum deal make sense for the Steelers? Denver will be paying him millions if he gets cut. Wilson would be a stopgap QB and how long would you have him? What would it cost to get Fields to the Steelers? He is younger than Kenny Pickett! Crowley thinks the Steelers are a QB away. We discuss options at backup. There's what people want to happen, then the realistic options. Justin Fields is far from a finished product. He's a good talent but needs work. Kirk Cousins? We don't think he'd be much of an option. The Steelers cut Mitch Trubisky Monday after two seasons with the team. And now the long offseason draws nigh as the Steelers have a ton of questions to answer as they try to turn around their fortunes in 2024. Join the crew as we discuss Tomlin silencing the media narrative by returning for 2024, the team's search for an offensive coordinator, and discuss Pittsburgh's pending free agents, likely roster cuts, and some potential free agents to pursue at key areas of need. Thanks for listening to us again for season of Steelers football!!
January 17, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 78 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin and how it is now known that he will be back in 2024. We also talk about Tomlin possibly receiving a contract extension soon, what his end-of-the-season press conference might include and the changes he's likely to make to the coaching staff this offseason. Several players talked to the media on Tuesday and that long list was headlined by DT Cameron Heyward, OLB T.J. Watt, and T Chukwuma Okorafor. We go over the primary media session takeaways from Tuesday. What kind of options will the Steelers have this offseason when it comes to Heyward's contract and the potential lowering of his 2024 salary cap amount? We discuss that topic quite extensively in this show. We also talk about Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth potentially receiving a contract extension this coming offseason and what that might look like. We also go over the expected release of Okorafor by the middle of March. The Steelers have already lost one member of their coaching staff this offseason, so we go over that news. We also discuss the Cleveland Browns parting ways with OC Alex Van Pelt on Wednesday and discuss the possibility of him landing in Pittsburgh soon. While we haven't yet gone deep into the all-22 tape from the Steelers' Monday Wild Card game loss to the Buffalo Bills, Alex and I do offer up a few more observations from that contest based on recent observations. We'll get deeper into our all-2 breakdown of that game on Friday. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 96-minute episode, and we end it by answering several questions sent in from listeners of the show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. We transitioned the chat to the Chuks Okorafor situation and there are reports out what he said that led to his benching. Did the player have the fair gripe? We broke down the two reports. Does it make you feel any sort of sympathy for the player in this situation?
Chuks Okorafor spoke to the media earlier today and he didn't tell reporters what he said to warrant his benching ahead of the Titans game. Does it have anything to do with his performance? The guys think it does at least a little bit because it's rare to see a player get benched based on something they said if they weren't one of the better players on the field.
The guys got back into the Chuks Okorafor situation and how it is being treated so much differently than what is happening with George Pickens. What did Chuks say to get him benched? It gets Broderick Jones on the field, but why can't it be because he's the better player?
The guys were really wondering what Chuks Okorafor could have said to get him benched after Mike Tomlin treated the George Pickens situation was a non-issue. Callers weighed in on what Mike Tomlin said to the media today. The guys got back into the Chuks Okorafor situation and how it is being treated so much differently than what is happening with George Pickens. What did Chuks say to get him benched? It gets Broderick Jones on the field, but why can't it be because he's the better player?
Call him Kenny Comeback. The Steelers' second-year quarterback was able to deliver the game-winner to Johnson, the wide receiver's first touchdown in 22 games. TJ Watt is best defensive player in the NFL says JJ WATT TJ Watt is best defensive player in the NFL says JJ WATT TJ Watt is best defensive player in the NFL says JJ WATT It's never easy for this year's Steelers team -- even on a night where the run game recorded a season-high 167 yards, and the defense held Derrick Henry to fewer than 100 rushing yards. With the win, the Steelers have an NFL-leading four wins when trailing after three quarters. The four comeback wins are also tied for Pittsburgh's second-most in a season during the Super Bowl era. QB breakdown: Playing with a ribs injury sustained against the Jacksonville Jaguars just four days earlier, Pickett had a bumpy start in the first half, completing just 53% of his passes. But Pickett and the offense did score a first-drive touchdown, just the Steelers' seventh opening-drive touchdown in the last three seasons and the second with Pickett as the starter. After two three-and-outs, Pickett bounced back with a much better second half, thanks in large part to the emergence of the run game. Pickett finished completing 19 of 30 for 160 yards, including a 32-yard completion to Johnson on the scoring drive, and he had no turnovers. The third-down pass, which traveled a game-high 23 air yards, had just a 35.9 expected completion percentage, per Next Gen Stats. Pickett averaged 4.5 air yards per attempt, the second-lowest of his career, and he was pressured at the second-lowest rate of his career (20%) as a result. Buy on a breakout performance: Broderick Jones is the Steelers' starting right tackle. Jones, who unseated Chukwuma Okorafor, was a surprise start on a short week -- especially considering he's taken most of his reps at left tackle in games and in practice. Okorafor is the Steelers' highest-paid offensive lineman with a $13 million cap hit this season. Jones, though, was a big part of the run game's success Thursday. He helped pave a path for Najee Harris on the first score of the game, and he aided Harris to a 25-yard run in the second half -- his longest of the season. The run game also averaged a season-best 5.5 yards per carry -- well over its 3.6 average. Troubling trend: In each of the last three games, wide receiver George Pickens has made an incredible catch -- only to have it ruled incomplete because he didn't get a second foot down. While the first two had more to do with the ball placement on the throw, the one on Thursday cost his team a touchdown. Pickett perfectly placed the ball in the end zone where only Pickens could get it, but Pickens' second foot hit the sideline before touching down in the end zone. There was space to drag his toe, but Pickens didn't have the awareness to get his toe down. Instead of taking a four-point lead, the Steelers settled for a field goal and a 13-13 tie late in the third quarter. Pickens entered the night with 11 receptions within 2 yards of a boundary the last two seasons, most in the league according to NFL Next Gen Stats. -- Brooke Pryor Up next: vs. Green Bay Packers (Nov. 12, 1 p.m. ET) via @espn Social: Twitch-http://twitch.tv/GmiasWorld Facebook-http://www.facebook.com/GmiasWorld Twitter-https://www.twitter.com/GmiasWorld Donate:https://streamlabs.com/gmiasworld Instagram-https://www.instagram.com/GmiasWorld GmiasWorld Merch: https://gmiasworld.myspreadshop.com Background Music (Exclusive) by @ZaneAlexanderNC

Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't address their offensive line once in the 2022 NFL Draft after signing James Daniels and Mason Cole in free agency and bringing back Chukwuma Okorafor. But was that enough to fix the offensive line that's struggled in recent years? Between Daniels, Cole, Okorafor, Kendrick Green, Kevin Dotson, Dan Moore Jr. and J.C. Hassenhauer, the Steelers' offensive line will have a lot of work in 2022 to establish an identity. But can they become the group that opens up holes for Najee Harris and protects either Kenny Pickett or Mitch Trubisky or Mason Rudolph enough in the pocket? There's ways the skill players can help mitigate the OL's struggles, especially with mobile quarterbacks. But between Pickett and Trubisky, what are the advantages each player has over each other before rookie camp starts? And is Rudolph in a position to be cut altogether?CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Emily is no longer with the podcast. She'll still drop in from time to time, but the fact of the matter is she didn't have what it took to put out a bi-monthly podcast. So, to step in and fill the void, Tim Everson has deigned to join us. This week, Leif read The Collected Works of Lovecraft, and comes to a shocking realization. We discuss racism, Cthulhu, racism, quitting books, and racism. Follow us on Twitter at @TsundokuPod for extra tidbits that don't make it into the episodes! Music by Veltpunch. Some corrections and links. The "Lovecraft Award" I referred to is actually the World Fantasy award. Nnedi Okorafor's blog post about it can be found here. When I said Okorafor had written Akata Death Witch, I had gotten two of her books mixed up: Akata Witch, and Who Fears Death. Who Fears Death has been in development for about four years with HBO.

6/30/2020Terrible Podcast LogoSeason 10, Episode 122 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can and in this Tuesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the top 10 head coach rankings that CBS Sports released on Monday and where Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is slotted.Steelers tackle Zach Banner had a few interesting things to say during a Monday radio interview so Alex and I discuss a few of his comments in addition to talking some about his upcoming training camp battle with fellow tackle Chukwuma Okorafor.Talking about Banner and Okorafor makes it easy for Alex and I to slide into a pre training camp preview of the Steelers offensive line. We discuss the eight players expected to make the 53-man roster in addition to the other offensive linemen under contract potentially battling for practice squad spots. Would the Steelers have any interest in signing free agent tackle Kelvin Beachum? We discuss that possibility briefly as well.Alex and I move to discuss a few posts he’s done the last few days with one of them being about defensive tackle Daniel McCullers. We discuss if McCuller’s roster spot is guaranteed and more. The New England Patriots have signed veteran quarterback Cam Newton so that transaction gets the attention of Alex and myself briefly. As my pass protection series on Steelers rookie running back Anthony McFarland Jr. starts to wind down, Alex and I discuss what the findings have been from the nine 2019 Maryland games that have been reviewed so far.We close out this Monday podcast by answering a few more emails we’ve received from listeners. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to call or email with questions or comments and please pass us along to your friends!
The Central Bank of Nigeria has said all successful applicants that have submitted their account details for the COVID-19 Targeted Credit Facility should expect to be credited within 48 hours. The Director, Corporate Communications of CBN, Isaac Okoroafor, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. According to the CBN, the applicants are households and small and medium enterprises hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Okoroafor advised all successful applicants whose accounts had not been credited to visit the website of NIRSAL Microfinance Bank and input their account details. He noted that the CBN had waived the requirements for the provision of guarantors by households and small and medium enterprises applying for the facility worth N50bn. Okorafor said the bank’s move was meant to assuage the concerns of those who had fulfilled all requirements for the loan but were yet to have their accounts credited, particularly as other persons had begun to receive credit alerts. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it has not prohibited the acceptance of foreign currency cash deposits by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs The CBN Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Issac Okorafor made the clarification while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday. A domiciliary account is a type of current account that allows you to fund it with foreign currencies such as dollars, pounds or euros and enables you to do foreign transactions on that account. The account could be used to transfer money to another country or receive foreign currency from another country. Okorafor explained that only electronic fund transfers into Domiciliary accounts could also be transferred from such accounts while cash deposits into such accounts could as well allow to be withdrawn in cash also. He said the clarification was necessary due to misrepresentation of facts and uncertainties surrounding the operations of domiciliary accounts in the country. Okorafor, therefore, urged stakeholders and other interested parties in banking sector to always endeavour to seek clarification on issues. According to him, rumours and speculative tendencies are detrimental to the financial system. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support Learn more about your ad choices. Dr. Nnedi Okorafor is one cool creator. In addition to her original speculative fiction work like Binti, Akata Witch, Lagoon, and Who Fears Death, Okorafor is working within some of western culture's most popular canons: Star Wars and Black Panther. Den of Geek Books Editor Kayti Burt spoke to her about Binti in particular but also about her body of work. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Join Cap on a solo mission as they give hints to the latest happenings at The Nerdy Show Network, muse on the Network's (and this show's) 10th year of podcasting, share the ups and downs of kitten fostering, and highlight two amazing comics you should read: Gillen and Hans's Die and Okorafor and Tana's LaGuardia. But all that's just a prelude to the main event! In preparation for an upcoming collaborative art project, Cap dusts off some fan fiction they wrote with Local-Shop in which their favorite pretentious art ladies of the 90s meet: Judy Funnie (from Nickelodeon/ Disney's Doug) and Maude Lebowski (from The Big Lebowski). Indulge in Cap's all too thorough knowledge of Doug continuity as we explore Judy's undocumented time at Vole University and Maude's continued interest in work that's strongly vaginal. No, this isn't slashfic, but hopefully the artsy fartsy feminist storyry therein won't make you uncomfortable.Vagina.For links and more info, head to the main episode page:https://nerdyshow.com/2019/01/judy-funnie-meets-maude-lebowski/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

They begin with the latest collection from Craig Yoe, The Unknown Anti-War Comics(IDW Publications/Yoe Books). This is a volume devoted to classic Charlton Comics stories from the 1950s and 1960s -- most probably written by Joe Gill -- that have a peaceful message to deliver. One of the highlights of this collection is the art of Steve Ditko. After that, the guys jump into the latest issue of Love and Rockets (Fantagraphics Books). Both Derek and Sterg highlight what they particularly like about this specific issue, but they also speculate on the current career trajectories of Gilbert and Jaime and even on what they see as some of the "excesses" of each brother. Finally, the guys wrap up with a discussion of the first two issues of Nnedi Okorafor and Tana Ford's LaGuardia(Dark Horse Comics/Berger Books). In fact, this is an appropriate title to bookend the episode, along with Charlton anti-war stories. Both Sterg and Derek are intrigued by the premise of this limited series, but at the same time they feel that there's something missing from the first two issues, which is half of the four-issue run. Is the narrative too decompressed? Lacking enough exposition? Regardless, both guys want to read on and see where Okorafor and Tana end with their timely story.

We're 99 percent sure Chukwuma Okorafor (OT- WMU) will be drafted this weekend, but who else? Darrius Phillips, Joe Ostman and Tyler Conklin are likely culprits, but they seem like late-round guys. There's a few other guys worth taking a look at, who should at least be taken via UDFA options. Tuesday Night Lights is a feature of MAC Prospectus Free on Saturday. Award-winning, science-fiction author Nnedi Okorafor wrote a story set on Chicago's Rainbow Beach, decades in the future. After a conversation with a Great Lakes expert, she imagined a future world where the water is contaminated and Chicagoans on the South Side are separated from any access to clean water. In this interview with Shannon Heffernan, Okorafor talked about the real life scenarios behind her sci-fi story. You can hear Nnedi Okorafor's story, "Poison Fish" on our Soundcloud and at afterwater.tumblr.com. (Photo of Nnedi Okorafor by Shannon Heffernan)
(Flickr/surfergirl1972) What happens 100 years from now when, if climate change has brought us to a point where water has become one of our scarcest resources, and more precious than oil or gold? We've asked fiction writers to imagine the Great Lakes region a century or more on, and help us paint an audio portrait of that world. Local author Nnedi Okorafor starts out the series on Chicago's south side. In her story, "Poison Fish" (or, "Poison Poisson"), Okorafor brings us to a dystopian backdrop of memories and chaos, set along the waterfront on Chicago's south side.
This month on The Writer and the Critic your hosts, Kirstyn McDermott and Ian Mond, briefly discuss the results of the 2011 Hugo Awards -- Ian was right! -- as well as the heartening increase in diversity of the nominated works in response to some listener feedback. Buoyed by his success in predicting that Connie Willis would take home the Hugo for best novel, Ian makes another silly startling prediction about the future of books and awards. Mention is also made of Jo Walton's excellent retrospective series in which she revisits the results of past Hugo Awards over at Tor.com. They then turn their attention to this episode's featured books, We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson and Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor. Kirstyn mentions this thoughtful essay about Jackson and her work by Joyce Carol Oates. This lengthy review of the Okorafor novel by Paul Di Filippo is taken to task for being just a little bit patronising and somewhat missing of the point. The rather harrowing Washington Post article that inspired Okorafor can be found here. For those wishing to avoid spoilers and skip ahead, discussion of We Have Always Lived in the Castle begins at 14:30, while Who Fears Death starts around 52:50. Ian and Kirstyn would like to warn listeners that Who Fears Death deals explicitly with rape, female genital mutilation and sexual violence. Their review of the novel in this episode naturally involves frank discussion of those same subjects. Some very brief final remarks can be found at 01:29:30. Oh, and look, the episode of the Outer Alliance podcast is now live! OA host Julia Rios invited Ian and Kirstyn along to have a Writer and the Critic style discussion, with the recommended texts being Horn and Bleed by Peter M. Ball (chosen by Ian), "Nightship" by Kim Westwood (chosen by Kirstyn) and "The Behold of the Eye" by Hal Duncan (chosen by Julia). They talked for over three billion hours. Thankfully, Julia managed to edit the conversation down into a very succinct podcast of around two hours. She is a genius! Next episode will focus on two short story collections: Bluegrass Symphony by Lisa L. Hannett (chosen by Kirstyn) and Everyone's Just So So Special by Robert Shearman (Ian's recommendation). As both of these collections are fairly new releases, Ian and Kirstyn intend to go light on the spoilerage, but still encourage you to grab yourself copies of these fine volumes and read ahead.
