Today's crossword was by Ryan McCarty, who specializes in spectacular Saturday crosswords like this one. The clues were challenging, and there was a lot of pop-culture -- Mike's bane, Jean's forté -- but fortunately there were enough non-pop-culture references so that Mike could prosper, and Jean didn't need 'em.In addition to the crossword, we have listener mail, including some from a former JAMCOTWA winner that involved a discussion of this week's JAMCOTWA winner: or as Robin would have it, holy-coincidences, Batman! Show notes imagery: BARRYKEOGHAN, movie / television star, seen here in Apple TV+'s Masters of the AirWe love feedback! The second half of the Minor League Baseball season seemed to have just started and teams are getting ready to put their feet up for a breather as they enter All-Star Game weekend. With the trade deadline coming soon after, the Blue Jays' minor league broadcasters are gearing up for various roster machinations that could affect their teams. The episode starts with the Voice of the Buffalo Bisons Pat Malacaro inviting long-time New Hampshire Fisher Cats broadcaster Bob Lipman to join him to call some triple-A games in Worcester. Then, Pat reports on his team, who have been in a funk. However, things are looking up as Riley Tirotta continues to be consistent at the plate, newcomer Gabriel Cancel has had a white-hot start, and Chad Dallas has returned to good health. Diving into Aaron Sanchez's return, Pat tells us that he is going through the process of learning how to become a new kind of pitcher now that he's not throwing as hard. From Manchester, Bob is joined by Chris Jared who showed off the Fisher Cats' 2011 Eastern League Trophy replica giveaway (Saturday, July 13). Nominative determinism (and the Cavan Biggio trade) have brought reliever Braydon Fisher to the 2024 Cats team where he has been showing off a curveball that could be better than Adam Macko's. Chris also tells us about Ryan McCarty on and off the field and Deveraux Harrison's success in their rotation, while Bob reassures us that Cade Doughty just needs some more time to settle into double-A life. With our host Tyler Zickel in Portland, Chris Georges has been handling the mic for the Vancouver Canadians this week. Since the second half, the C's have been red-hot with a 14-4 record to lead the second half standings. Chris and Tyler took this opportunity to heap praise on catchers Jackson Hornung and Robert Brooks. They are also looking at the success Payton Williams and Dasan Brown have been having and are thinking that they may be on their way to New Hampshire sooner rather than later. They also gawked at Grayson Thurman's splitter, which his teammates have rated as 80-grade. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Around The Nest is the Blue Jays' minor league podcast where the broadcasters from up and down the farm system get together to talk about the performances of Blue Jays prospects in the past two weeks. This week, we welcome Chris Georges, the Vancouver Canadians' broadcast assistant, to the Nest. Chris G. is joined by Chris Jared of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Larry Larson of the Dunedin Blue Jays, and of course podcast host and the Voice of the Canadians, Tyler Zickel. The Fisher Cats have had solid pitching performances—like Adam Macko striking out nine Yard Goats—but have had weak run support (sound familiar). Overall, the team is still loose, believing that they are better than their 15-21 win-loss record. Before a rough start Friday evening, Trenton Wallace had been solid for New Hampshire, sporting a funky delivery. Alan Roden has struggled at the plate but has been working hard, one-on-one with manager Cesar Martin. The D-Jays batters had been taking a lot of walks earlier in the season, but had seemed to be little overeager lately. On the positive side, Christian Feliz and Yhoangel Aponte have been taking patient, encouraging at bats and lately, Manuel Beltre seems to have turned a corner, taking better at bats and getting a walkoff hit. On the negative side, Arjun Nimmala had been placed on the development list strikeouts have been piling up now that he's seeing more breaking balls. On the mound side, Juaron Watts-Brown has been displaying a nasty slider and an underrated change-up and Connor O'Halloran has demonstrated that he can grind through games in which he just didn't have his best stuff. Vancouver's Jace Bohrofen had been getting walks and making good contact but had not displayed home run power until this week when he hit two. Ryan McCarty has been delivering clutch hits for the Canadians and is seen as a guy with a big heart who is easy to root for. Japanese-Brazilian Raphael Ohashi has almost been perfect out of the bullpen, starting the season with 15 consecutive scoreless innings against five different Northwest League teams. Ohashi will be given a start in game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

One month into the 2024 minor league season we get our first reports on the performance of Blue Jays prospects from low-A to triple-A from the Around The Nest crew. Host Tyler Zickel, the Voice of the Vancouver Canadians, is joined by long-time Nester Pat Malacaro (Buffalo Bisons) and newcomers Chris Jared (New Hampshire Fisher Cats) and Larry Larson (Dunedin Blue Jays). Leading off, Pat talks about the hot-hitting Bisons like Spencer "More Hits" Horwitz and Orelvis Martinez. The 2024 Bisons are arguably the most prospect-laden team since the Blue Jays affiliation. Chris actually makes his return from the podcast after his first debut in April 2017 talking about Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in Lansing. This time, he's talking about Josh Kasevich who has been making good contact, Alan Roden who has been getting on base, and Miguel Hiraldo's bad luck at the plate. The true newcomer Larry Larson checks in from Florida to talk about how the D-Jays' manager Jose Mayorga keeps it loose through a six-game winning streak in early April and their nine-game losing streak in late April and how things are going despite injuries to Brandon Barriera, Landen Maroudis, and Tucker Toman. Tyler wraps up the show with a report on the C's starters Ryan Jennings and Chris McElvain, rel;ievers Rafael Ohashi and Naswell Paulino, and hitters Ryan McCarty, Jace Bohrofen, Nick Goodwin, and Dasan Brown. Today we continue with the new series of quotes on "Perfectionism" that I started a couple of weeks ago. This is a great topic for coaches because we all deal with "perfectionist athletes" at points in our careers, and for most of us we deal with them every season. The quotes that I will be discussing will get at the heart of perfectionism, why it can be crippling to performance, and what we can/should do about it to keep it from destroying our ability to grow and develop the best that we can.Today's quotes form the beginning of a mini-series within the series. That's because for the next few weeks I will discuss quotes by Dr. Brene Brown from her book, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. I HIGHLY recommend you get this book! It is so good and has so many powerful impactful ideas and lessons for all of us, especially those of us in any type of leadership position. The quotes you hear today kick off a short section in the book on perfectionism and why perfectionism is so crippling to us in our efforts to become the best versions of ourselves that we can be.Champion Your Culture with Ryan McCarty and George RogersA weekly live show exploring the power of culture and leadership in business.Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifyFor more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at scott@slamdunksuccess.com.As always, our background music is "Dance in the Sun" by Krisztian Vass.

The role of the leader is to create an environment where people can do their very best work, and part of that is to help each one identify their own individual superpower. This helps them enjoy the experience and it holds space for psychological freedom, creativity and motivation.Hubert also shares how insights don't often come from the conscious mind, but rather from the subconscious. To get those seemingly half-baked ideas out, he suggests mixing up the environment so that these ideas come from a place of vulnerability rather than from the ego of sounding right. Listen to this episode to learn how leaders can overcome the limiting beliefs that are keeping them from bringing innovation and creativity to their teams.References:The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work by Shawn Achor The Silva Mind Control Method by José SilvaWebsite: https://hubertgrealish.com/Soaring to New Health: The Glass is Half HealthySDOH: why they are important and how they can play a role in more efficient careListen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Champion Your Culture with Ryan McCarty and George RogersA weekly live show exploring the power of culture and leadership in business.Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify The Canadian Money RoadmapDiscover strategies to save, invest, and grow your money effectively.Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the showJoin us in our mission at The Leadership Project and learn more about our organization here. https://linktr.ee/mickspiersYou can purchase a copy of the Mick Spiers bestselling book "You're a Leader, Now What?" as an eBook or paperback at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZBKK8XV

Broadcaster Gareth Kwok's Fisher Cats are still waiting on their first walkoff of 2023, but the broadcasters from the other affiliates talk about the most exciting walkoffs of the season so far. The Bisons' Pat Malacaro tells us his team is finally getting consistency from the starting nine and the starters, Ernie Clement and Spencer Horwitz's dual five-hit day, Orelvis Martinez's triple-A debut, and Zach Thompson's season reset while he was on waivers. Double-A New Hampshire has not really be consistent, but Gareth gives us positive updates about Leo Jimenez's on-base streak, Rainer Nuñez sliding into the middle of the lineup, and Adam Kloffenstein's success in his second season in the Eastern League. In the last segment, host Tyler Zickel of the Vancouver Canadians banters with Chris Valentine of the Dunedin Blue Jays about the D-Jays' rough patch in July and the C's remaining red-hot. We also get updates about Ryan McCarty, Victor Mesia, Jean Arnaez, Rafael Sanchez, Deveraux Harrison, Michael Dominguez, and Pat Gallagher. Learn more about your ad choices. Host Tyler Zickel (Canadians) is joined by the wonderfully mustachioed rookie Chris Valentine (Dunedin Blue Jays) and the reliable veteran Bob Lipman (Fisher Cats) to talk about the state of the Blue Jays minor leagues. Chris nominates Ryan McCarty as the D-Jays' hitter of the month and updates us on Rafael Ohashi's return to form, Alex Amalfi's new curveball, Irv Carter's phenomenal changeup, and tells us that Brandon Barriera is throwing bullpens and is feeling good. Tyler's first-half champion Vancouver Canadians love Ian Churchill both on and off the field, Gabby Martinez needs to work on his two-strike approach, Dasan Brown's bat has warmed up with the weather, and Adam Macko (the return for Teoscar Hernández) had his best start since joining the Toronto organization. Finally, Bob makes his 2023 Around The Nest debut by recapping a heartbreaking 14-inning Fisher Cats loss on a balkoff and he tells us to ignore T.J. Brock's ERA because he has been lights out. We end the show with Bob telling us about Orelvis Martinez's amazing turnaround including improvements to his plate discipline and situational awareness. Learn more about your ad choices. An interview with Ryan McCarty and Mark Goulston that originally aired on January 26th, 2021, as part of Leveraging Thought Leadership Live on LinkedIn. How do you use thought leadership? Some thought leaders use it to build a brand, or to share an idea.  My guests today come from a background of service, and they use thought leadership to help people find purpose and hope. Ryan McCarty is a keynote speaker, co-founder of Culture of Good and co-author of Build A Culture of Good: Unleash Results by Letting Your Employees Bring Their Soul to Work. Mark Goulston is the world's leading Healthy Conflict Coach and author of multiple books including Get Out of Your Own Way: Overcoming Self-Defeating Behavior and Just Listen: Discover the Secret to Getting Through to Absolutely Anyone. In this episode of Leveraging Thought Leadership, we discuss how the purpose of helping others started them in their original careers (ministry and psychiatry, respectively), and how they continue following that purpose through the practice of thought leadership. Ryan shares how he spent 20 years in ministry focused on community, and how he found his purpose in helping people find a sense of purpose in their everyday lives. Mark comes from a background of psychiatry, and after his own brush with depression while in med school, rose to specializing in suicide prevention so that he could help others discover hope and meaning in their lives. Our guests have traveled parallel paths, helping others live happier and healthier lives through their work. Now, they're bringing those insights about hope and meaning to the corporate sphere. We learn how Ryan built a Culture of Good and how that philosophy gets companies to create a meaningful and fulfilling workplace that also improves the bottom line. Mark works with executives and leaders, teaching them to carve away the negative aspects that create a culture of mistrust, fear, or hopelessness at an organization, and build trust and purpose into the everyday life of the org.  Our guests today provide actionable advice on how you can change the culture of your company and employees, and live a more meaningful life — starting today!   Three Key Takeaways: Every leader  —   from thought leaders to the organizational C-Suite  —  needs to be authentic, caring, and purposeful, and strive to be the type of person others want to follow. Keeping a journal of thought and ideas can build a deeper understanding of everyday insights, and might even create the basis for your thought leadership! Doing good and making money doesn't have to be at odds. A profitable business can use its strength to create and fulfill a meaningful purpose.

The Division III Penn State Abington baseball team is having an incredible season. They have a 31-9 record under first year head coach David Miller heading into the United East Conference Tournament, and the Nittany Lions have scored more runs than any Division III team in the country. They're averaging an absurd 12.7 runs per game. This lineup is loaded, but leading the way is senior Ryan McCarty. The Pennsbury High School product is putting up video game numbers. He leads the nation with a .552 batting average, 27 home runs, and 85 runs batted in... in 40 games. Last week he hit four homers in one game, a win over Gallaudet. An infielder who also pitches, McCarty was recently named the United East Conference Player of the Year. Matt Leon caught up with him to talk about a truly incredible season.

I don't care if it's a coach flipping front toss, or a tee with no fielders, you just don't hit .552 at ANY level in baseball. But Penn State Abington's Ryan McCarty does. And is. Today - learn from the man who is putting together the most explosive offensive season at any level in college baseball history right up the road from us. A .552 batting average. 95 hits, 27 home runs AND 26 doubles in 40 games. 85 runs scored AND 85 RBIs. A 1.209 slugging percentage. (For comparison, the next highest in all of D3 is .950) He even has 20 stolen bases AND he pitches - he's the closer and has 4 wins and 3 saves. We try to find out HOW THIS IS POSSIBLE from the 2017 Pennsbury High grad and learn a great deal from Ryan about his mental approach, which has earned raves from his head coach David Miller (last year's A-10 coach of the year at La Salle) and hitting coach Jeff Manto (the long-time major leaguer AND major league hitting instructor). This is a great episode about someone local who has beaten the odds and is bidding to become only the second player in NCAA HISTORY to win a Triple Crown (Mike Smith, Indiana, 1992). But Ryan leads all of college baseball in TEN different offensive categories, so calling it a Triple Crown almost seems limiting. Also --- is the MLB Draft a possibility? We talk that and more WITH OUR INTERN Ryan McCarty ... on a great JBS.

I talk all the time about the importance of having a “why” in your business. Having a “why” is that foundation that every business owner should build their business upon. Simply because, when the rough patches come (which they will) and when the business gets hard (which it will), having a strong “why” behind what you do helps push past those challenges. A lot of businesses can struggle with this, or maybe, the “why” gets lost in the “what”--the “what they are doing.” But today’s guest is helping businesses, and people, get back to their “why,” so that they can do better at doing their “what.”   My guest this week is Ryan McCarty, the co-founder of Culture of Good, a program that teaches other businesses to increase employee engagement, by encouraging employees to bring their souls to work. But let me tell you, Culture of Good is about so much more, and I can’t possibly sum it up in just a blurb, so you’re going to have to listen to the show.   FINDING MEANING IN TRAGEDY Ryan’s story has a very tragic beginning. As a child, he was faced with the reality of how broken our world is. His mother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, while his father--a Vietnam veteran--was a heroin addict. When Ryan was six years old, his mother committed suicide. Following that tragedy, his father got clean, re-married, and found sanctuary in his faith. Ryan began to discover that a lot of purpose came from the pain he had experienced as a young child. From that point forward, he was led to church and doing meaningful work. His family was always giving back and doing good--from collecting food and clothes for the needy, to volunteering their time. He felt this was his full-time purpose, and he went into ministry. Ryan became a pastor and worked to tie his life into the notion that you can find a sense of meaning behind your life, and leverage your work in that way. He knew what he wanted to do with his life, and threw his entire life into that space.   BUSINESS WITH PURPOSE Ryan’s philosophy is that we find meaning in our own lives when we do good for others. While his career began with ministry, he now finds himself in the corporate world--in the “Business with Purpose” sector. It all began one day, when Ryan was giving a sermon on the importance of finding your “why.” Unbenounced to him, a very important businessman was in the audience. He came up to Ryan afterwards and said that he wanted to learn more, because he felt that his employees needed to know their “why”. They sat down over chips and salsa and talked about this man’s exponentially-growing business. One of the large risks of a growing business is that you lose what made you special when you started: culture. This businessman wanted to give his employees a sense of purpose, so his company could rediscover its culture. During their conversation, Ryan surprised himself, by asking the businessman to hire him to help his employees connect to their “why,” and Culture of Good was born.   BRING YOUR SOUL TO WORK: WHAT IS YOUR ‘WHY’? Ryan was looking for a way to connect employees on an emotional level, so he began working with what he knew best: giving back. He sought to create an emotional disruption in the workplace. It needed to be more than a typical corporate day of service, it needed to be driven into the DNA of the business: the culture. His experience with this first company was incredibly successful. It was results-based and had a huge return on investment. Ryan wanted to replicate this success with other companies, and wrote a book with the aim of creating a replicable structure for this “culture of good.”  Ryan wants companies to encourage employees to bring their souls to work--their “why’s”. He has launched an incredible number of tools for companies, with the aim of helping them reshape and redefine their company’s culture--into a culture of good.   About Ryan McCarty, Co-Founder of  Culture of Good: Ryan McCarty is an author, speaker, storyteller and the co-founder of Culture of Good, Inc.   His book, Build A Culture of Good, teaches companies how to unleash results by letting their employees bring their souls to work. Ryan’s work has been featured in Huffington Post, Inc.com, People, Forbes and more. He is also featured on podcasts regularly for his profound message on operating your business and living your life with a soul.   With more than 20 years of leadership experience in full-time ministry and nonprofit work, Ryan helps guide for-profit companies how to lead their businesses with a meaningful “why.” He has experienced that with the right attitude and passion, businesses can be profitable and have a purpose.   Ryan believes every leader and employee can leverage their daily work to discover their life calling by building their own culture of good and making the world a better place.   CONNECT WITH RYAN Website: http://cultureofgood.com/ Instagram: @cultureofgood Facebook: Culture of Good Twitter: @cultureofgood LinkedIn: Culture of Good | Ryan McCarty Youtube: Culture of Good   Special thanks to CAUSEBOX for sponsoring this week’s Business with Purpose podcast. This week we have a pair of Misfit Entrepreneurs in billion-dollar CEO Scott Morehead and former Pastor, Ryan McCarty. You may be thinking, why is Dave interviewing a CEO of a billion-dollar company and Pastor in the same show? Let me tell you. Scott and Ryan have teamed together to create an incredible organization called Culture of Good, based on the best-selling book they wrote together of the same name. It all started when they partnered together to grow Scott’s company, the Cellular Connection, or TCC, which now is the largest Verizon Authorized retailer. Scott hired Ryan to help create a Culture of good and drive results. Over 6 years, they took the company from 190 stores and $137 million in annual revenue to 630 plus stores and over $830 million in revenue using the culture of good philosophies. Today, the company is a billion-dollar company with over 1000 stores and more than 3000 employees. Scott and Ryan’s story and TCC have been featured in Forbes, INC, FOX Business, and countless other outlets. I’ve asked them to come on and share it with you and teach everyone in Misfit Nation the principles of a Culture of Good. www.CultureofGood.com TCC was started by Scott’s parents. He started working in one of the stores while in college. After college, he went to work at the head office and after a few years, he bought the business from his parents for a hefty price tag. Scott never took any money out of the business and invested it back in to grow the business exponentially. The big challenge was creating a culture that could transcend across the country as the company grew. Everything was harder – communication, motivation, running the business, etc. He realized that he was really in the people business. Scott had to find a way to create and keep the culture as the business scaled. One day, he went to a church with a pastor that had tattoos and earrings, and a mow hawk. It was an incredible experience. The pastor was Ryan delivering a sermon about you “what equaling your why.” So, Scott took Ryan to lunch to talk more about the concept – and by the end of lunch Ryan was trying to talk Scott in hiring him. *One lesson I took from the story is how important it is to be open for opportunity because it can come at any time. Ryan, has been a pastor/minister and doing global missions for almost 20 years. But, as Ryan said, he never really fit into the normal stereotype of a pastor except for he had a goal of making the world a better place. He had no idea that Scott was in his audience that day. Once he went to lunch with Scott and they started talking – he just blurted out that they should work together. It just seemed right. Scott didn’t hire Ryan right away. It took several months of conversations and even a bad accident where Scott was injured before Scott decide to move ahead. At the 14 min mark, Ryan shares a great message about how he knew he had to work with Scott. He talks about comfort zones and faith and following your gut. What is the philosophy of the Culture of Good? Ryan: We teach for profit companies how to operate their businesses with the soul of a non-profit. It aligns being purposeful with profitable and creating a culture and experience that makes work fulfilling – making it a cause that drives results in a business. Scott: From a Misfit standpoint, we’ve been told “for profit business” can’t care and “non-profit business” can’t be run well. That’s not true. The Culture of Good is where those two sectors come together and marry – essentially taking the best of each other and creating a better overall entity. You can run a for profit business that cares… Taking that from idea to reality are two different things. How do you actually implement this system? You have the 5 Promises for that – tell us about them… At the 20-min mark, Scott and Ryan go into this in great detail. It is best to listen to what they say, but below are some selected notes. Caring – What is your cause that your business needs to carry? This cannot be separated from the business intent. They must be aligned and must benevolent. Inspiring Connecting Being Authentic Drive the Business All of them have to be carried out equally. The more good you do, the more business you get and the cycle goes ‘round and ‘round. Examples of implementing each one: Caring – Everyone is involved in the cause Inspiring – Making the cause part of the mission and the everyday values of the company Connecting – Connecting the cause not just with employees, but with customers and making everyone part of doing good. Being Authentic – You are not doing this as a PR stunt. It must be real and be part of who you are as a business and be echoed throughout. Drive the Business – You must not lose sight of driving the business and its growth – you simply want a culture of genuine good to be a part of that story. What have you learned about the human spirit going through this journey together? Ryan: That it is good. Business is a human endeavor and doing work that inspires others to do good. People just need help connecting their “what with their why.” Scott: The stereotypes of millennials are wrong – they want to work hard and contribute. They want their company to be purposeful. The other thing is that millennials care more than every other generation. What other advice can you give for growing a great business? Going from a small business, a family-owned business, where you are a massive individual contributor to scale to a large business, you as the owner will need to contribute less and let others do their jobs. You have to become very good at sharing your mission, vision and strategy. Don’t be afraid to share what is on your mind – don’t keep things a secret, but also take the time to understand and make sure you are communicating it correctly and in the right ways to each audience. It is very important for entrepreneurs, early on, to start having the culture discussion and be stating the vision and mission and making it part of your life. Make sure people know where their impact is and where they work matters to the business – no matter what stage you are in. Your goal should be to lead leaders and not just manage systems and processes. iPhone or Android? Ryan – Android/Samsung Scott – You are good on either side – but whichever one you choose, go all in on the product suite. It all works together when you buy the stuff that works together.   Best Quote: “A business with purpose is a better business for everyone involved...”   Ryan and Scott's Misfit 3: 1.) Ryan: You have to find yourself first. Self-awareness is critical.  Scott: A business with purpose is a better business for everyone involved. 2.) Ryan: Give of yourself. The need is the call. Look for needs around you and meet them. Contribute. Scott: Don’t trust that the culture is going to be better – you must continue to invest in it purposefully. 3.) Ryan: Lead yourself. Whatever you are building in life, don’t forget about the legacy you will leave. Scott: If you can’t figure all of those out on your own, go to www.CultureofGood.com

Magazine, Forbes, People Magazine, Huffington Post and more.   Key Takeaways: [0:21] Today’s episode is brought to you by Franchise 5! The key to long-term success is through smart, strategic growth. To learn more about this program, head over to FranchiseEuphoria.com/Franchise5. [0:58] Our episode today features Ryan McCarty, the author, speaker, and co-founder of Culture of Good. [3:42] Before beginning Culture of Good, McCarty devoted his life to non-profits. He was a pastor for 17 years, built a school in Zambia with his wife, and created many after school programs in the Midwest. [8:30] Founded in experiences from his upbringing, McCarty’s philosophy has always been “looking for ways to mobilize groups of people to make the world a better place.” [9:58] There’s a gap between the profit that’s necessary for a business to be successful and the purpose that’s necessary for employees to be productive. [13:26] To begin shifting this culture, you will have to grab your employees’ attention. Emotionally disruptive moments (i.e. big backpack giveaway across the country) can help to do this. [14:28] Emotional Operating System: Where employers can operate their business through doing good but engages the passions of their employees and customers all the while aligning with the strategic intent of the company. [18:15] Implementing this type of system can be tricky on a large scale. McCarty suggests a three-tiered strategy where everyone is collectively doing good across the country, then leveraging social media so that everyone could see the good that was being done together. [20:45] Find the essence of your business. [23:15] Do a culture diagnostic that evaluates the essence of your business, your employees, and your customers and find how those align. [24:45] McCarty conducted an analysis of the efficacy of his efforts with TCC and found that employee turnover was down by 20%. [29:05] These concepts are so important to franchising because if you improve your quality of employees, your brand and overall success will improve as well. Business Coaching with Join Up Dots

Company culture and making it good for everyone. How do you do it? My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man with a fascinating tale of following a course in his life that is nothing but unusual. As the former director of customer and employee relations at TCC, the largest Verizon Authorized Retailer in America, our guest is no stranger to empowering employees through a powerful cultural movement. A 2016 Gallup report found that 71% of employees are not engaged at work, 60% of employees do not connect with their company's mission, and 60% of millennials are open to different job opportunities and likely to job hop. That is a statistic that is shocking, even when most of us would nod our heads and say yeah “That sounds like me” Well today's guest isn't just sitting there nodding in agreement, but he is doing something about it He is trying to change that trend with his organization called “Culture of Good.” The program started when Scott Moorehead, the CEO of TCC Verizon wanted help to change the culture of his company of 3,000 employees at 800 stores across the U.S. And ever since then, this cultural movement took off and has spread across the country by helping companies inspire employees to have a positive impact in their community and the world. Our guest took that concept, and created Culture of Good, Inc. to inspire other businesses to create truly altruistic programs that can make the world a better place. He believes in order for a company's Culture of Good to be successful and meaningful, giving back must be ingrained in the foundation of its core values. Through Culture of Good, Inc. he helps other organizations engage the hearts of their employees and empower them to make the changes they wish to see in their communities. With a huge amount of charitable enterprises benefitting from these business with a heart, does he look back and think of his time as a pastor and think “This is what I was put on this Earth to do…this was my life mission?” And why is it so hard to get past the middle management of the world, when most company owners want their businesses to operate in the same way? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Ryan McCarty. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Ryan McCarty such as: Why having a workforce that is happy and encouraged on a daily basis is the easiest way to make true magic occur in a workplace. How Ryan managed to meander his way through the obstacles that occur in a boardroom to bring his mission to the fore. Why he feels that the tragedy that occurred in his life as a child was such a major part of growing into the man he is today. and lastly…. Ryan explains how they had to ask the big question of “How do we create a movement out of this a-ha moment?” every single day, to ensure that the moment was never lost in the process of living life.

The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls. Pablo Picasso On this episode Ryan McCarty shares the journey of going from being a pastor to the Co-Founder & CEO of CultureOfGood.com and author of "Build a Culture of Good". Ryan and his business partner are nationally recognized for creating workplace cultures that encourage people to make an impact on their communities. They call this “bringing your soul to work,” and their programs have been featured in Forbes, Inc., FOX Business, People Magazine, Huffington Post and many more. “Culture of Good” isn't just a feel-good program—it drives real business results. However, running a for-profit business was a something new to Ryan. He had to learn everything on the go; how to create a re-sellable system and actually be ok with charging for their services. Ryan is a true inspiration for anybody who have big dreams and fears, yet he still managed to go all-in even when times got though.
