Today on the Art + Business + Murals Podcast I am speaking with Derbyshire letterpress artist, Sarah Phelps of Sarah and Maude. In this interview we talk all things design and letterpress, burnout and balance.  Sarah has always loved stationery, and she can't actually remember a time when she didn't want to be a designer, so it was probably inevitable that she'd end up where she is today.Sarah spent the first decade of her career in the design agency world, but after rediscovering her love for letterpress – a love that began at university – she left agency life behind to pursue her passion for handcrafted stationery. Since launching Sarah and Maude in 2012 she has worked with hundreds of clients, in the UK and beyond, and she still has the same passion for thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship that she did over a decade ago. Also mentioned in the podcast was Lifeline: https://www.lifelineqld.org.auOr call them on 13 11 14 If you'd like to check out Sarah's work:Website // https://www.sarahandmaude.comInstagram // https://www.instagram.com/sarahandmaudeFacebook // https://www.facebook.com/SarahandMaude/  ——— Thank you so much for tuning into the Art + Business + Murals PodcastIf you'd like to say ‘hi' to me, or if you have any podcast topic ideas or artists you'd like me to interview, please email: podcast@sarahsculley.com Please follow along:Instagram // https://www.instagram.com/sculleydesign/Facebook // https://www.facebook.com/sculleydesignYou Tube // https://www.youtube.com/@SarahSculley/videosWebsite // https://www.sculleydesign.comFeel free to give this podcast a star rating and ‘follow' so you are notified when new episodes come out each Monday.

Screenwriter Sarah Phelps discusses her new BBC TV series A Very British Scandal, starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany, which tells the true story of the divorce of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll in 1963, one of the most notorious, extraordinary, and brutal legal cases of the 20th century. We remember the author Anne Rice who has died aged 80. Rice is best known for her gothic novels, including Interview with the Vampire, which was made into a film starring Tom Cruise. From the Front Row archives from 2012, Anne Rice discusses the sensuality of the vampires in her novels, her parallel career writing erotic fiction and her relationship with Christianity. As much as DEI is a current “hot topic” for organizations very few are taking the opportunity to question the assumptions that underpin the foundation of their talent selection process: resumes and interviews. From being able to recognize signs, to the appropriate approach to after care can all be traced back to the culture of all involved. Alright! How are you? Thanks so much for joining us for episode 4 – and it's such a good one. Paul Chahidi (This Country, The Death Of Stalin) was an absolute joy. Sometimes you meet people – even virtually – and you know you're going to get on really well. With Paul, I imagine that happens any time he connects with someone, because he's just the nicest man. It's no surprise that he was perfectly cast in the iconic role of Vicar ‘Fiery Francis' in Daisy May and Charlie Cooper's smash hit mockumentary This Country. We talk about so much, and he's really honest about how he's been dealing with lockdown and I think much of what he says will resonate with people. We talk about This Country, but also an online play he's been involved with, gin and tonics, zoom gymnastics and, of course, what he's been watching and reading. There's also a moment in this episode where he puts on the dog collar for one final time and spontaneously delivers a speech as Francis that had almost had me tearing up. It's a special moment, and I can't wait for you to hear it.Last week's episode with Sarah Phelps went down really, really well and thanks so much to everyone who shared it far and wide. As she completes her quintet of Agatha Christie adaptations with The Pale Horse, screenwriter Sarah Phelps discusses why Christie’s supernatural murder mystery attracted her attention when she was looking for a fifth work by the Queen of Crime to turn into television drama. We Will Walk - Art and Resistance in the American South is an exhibition of sculptures, paintings and quilts made by African American artists from Alabama and the surrounding southern states, made mainly during the Civil Rights movement of the '50s and '60s. Art critic Asana Greenstreet reviews the show, which is at Turner Contemporary in Margate and includes many works not seen before in the UK. This week Edward Kamau Brathwaite, the great poet of the Caribbean, died. Brathwaite realised the potential of West Indian vernacular, the beauty of its rhythms and vocabulary, as the language to speak of the Caribbean experience – surf, hurricanes, rum and calypso, the memory of Africa and the history of slavery. The poet Fred D’Aguiar pays tribute. Following the announcement of the death of the writer, academic and cultural critic George Steiner, the writer Robert McCrum - his editor at the Observer newspaper, and the publishing house Faber & Faber – pays tribute to Steiner’s life, work and his legacy as a public intellectual. The leader of the SNP has made her party’s position clear – she wants the Conservative government out, a Brexit extension secured and a General Election as soon as possible. Last week the First Minister told the Scottish Parliament: "We need to get powers out of the hands of Boris Johnson and his ilk and into the hands of this Parliament so that we don't have to put up with Tory welfare cuts anymore because we can take the right decisions here in the first place to lift people out of poverty." Jane is joined by Shirley Anne Somerville, MSP for Dunfermline and West Fife and Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Social Security and Older People to discuss the SNP’s offer to women voters on Brexit, Scottish Independence and other pressing policy issues ahead of a much anticipated General Election. The “Pre-Raphaelite Sisters” exhibition opens at the National Portrait Gallery this week to show just how engaged and central women were to the production of the art. Over the next few days Woman's Hour features some of these overlooked models, artists, makers, partners and poets. Dr. Jan Marsh curated the exhibition and wrote The Pre-Raphaelite Sisterhood in 1985 and Dr. Alison Smith curated Tate's major Burne-Jones exhibition last year. Today Elizabeth Siddal. Faecal Incontinence: "It’s like a dirty secret,” one listener told us. Why is faecal incontinence after childbirth so hard to talk about, even to your GP? While conversations around many of the effects of childbirth – from postnatal depression to pelvic floor problems – have become more common in recent years, bowel problems, less so. It’s thought that sphincter injuries can affect 1 in 10 mothers who’ve had vaginal births - with a higher risk to those having their first baby. So why don’t we talk about it more? Jane speaks to two Woman's Hour listeners living with faecal incontinence and to Dr Sara Webb, Research Midwife at the Institute of Applied Health Research, Birmingham University. Sarah Phelps, award-winning British screenwriter, joins Jane to talk about her latest TV crime thriller Dublin Murders which starts tonight on BBC1. STEM is important because science, engineering, technology, and math are in every part of our lives. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. From William Blake to Charles Dickens, authors have written or talked about experiencing auditory verbal hallucinations when writing fiction or hearing voices that others cannot hear. So is this the same when writing for radio or television? And if so, do writers hear characters as clearly as if a real person were speaking or as an external voice outside of themselves? In this podcast we hear from accomplished TV and radio writers Sarah Phelps and Al Smith and from Dr. Jennifer Hodgson, co-author of The Writers' Inner Voices project, the first ever large-scale investigation into how writers and storytellers hear voices. They discuss what it feels like to hear characters, whether there's a difference between creating characters for television, radio and written fiction and the practicalities of script writing. It’s not possible to just transcribe the novel directly onto the screen as there are constraints of both time and medium. So the writer has to adapt the work knowing the changes they make can be the cause of much heated debate. Joining Hazel Marshall in the CoP Show studio to discuss what makes a great adaptation are Sarah Phelps and Stewart Harcourt. Stewart has adapted many Poirots for ITV including Clocks from Christmas 2011 and Treasure Island with Eddie Izzard as Long John Silver for Sky1 at New Year. Sarah Phelps has adapted the much discussed Great Expectations with Gillian Anderson as Miss Havisham for the BBC in December 2011 and Oliver Twist for the BBC in 2007.

The latest edition of Talking TV looks ahead to the launch of Good Morning Britain and reveals why writing primetime drama for BBC1 is a heavily politicised process. Joining host Jake Kanter to run the rule over ITV’s replacement for Daybreak is Broadcast ratings guru Stephen Price. He explains why the show must keep hold of its share of housewives with children. Also in the studio is Faraz Osman, the creative director at multiplatform indie Lemonade Money, and Broadcast international editor Peter White. They discuss Pact’s children’s TV tax breaks campaign and Channel 4’s interactive NHS format from Sanjay Singhal’s Voltage TV. Writer Sarah Phelps then drops by to talk about her World War I drama The Crimson Field and why she doesn’t let the BBC’s critics inhibit her work. Phelps also details the work she’s doing to adapt JK Rowling novel The Casual Vacancy. Finally, find out why you should be watching ITV’s three-part John Simm drama Prey, but BBC1’s sitcom pilot Monks might be one to miss. Talking TV is available on SoundCloud below and can also be downloaded on iTunes here. The podcast is recorded at Maple Street Studios and the producer is Matt Hill.
