To gaze upon a full T. rex skeleton is to be transported back in time. Dinosaur fossils are key to understanding what these prehistoric creatures looked like, how they moved, and where they lived. But there's one type of dinosaur fossil that's sometimes overlooked: poop. Its scientific name is coprolite. These fossilized feces are rarer than their boney counterparts, but they're key to better understanding dino diets and ecosystems. This all raises an important question: How scientists know if something is fossilized dino poop or just a rock?At Science Friday Live in Boulder, Ira talks with Dr. Karen Chin, paleontologist and professor of geological sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder to answer that question and much more.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include - 1. the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes; 2. the nature of the copyrighted work; 3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and 4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors. Section 107 is not meant to be specific. Rather, Congress intended for fair use to be determined on a case-by-case basis. Congress also provided some illustrative examples of when a "fair use situation" might be more likely to occur. Educational and research activities are mentioned in particular as potential fair use scenarios, since these endeavors by their very nature build on the creation of new knowledge and creative work. However, it should not be assumed that every use of a copyrighted work in an educational environment is a fair use. If a copyright holder claims that their copyright has been infringed, the defendant may argue a fair use defense. Ultimately, it is up to the court to make the final determination if a use is fair. Fair Use should be actively exercised and considered on a case-by-case basis by weighing the four factors of fair use. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/evelyn5706/message

„You're a Liar“ und „Take Some Time Away“ beschwört spannungsvolles Bond-Feeling herauf, während der Opener „A Western“ mit modernem R&B und rumpelnden Sample-Drums den Vorhang aufmacht.

After featuring many participants of the Journey, it's time to talk to hosts again. Together with Lars Reyes-Gjølme and Laura Riuttanen from the Northern Light Journey we dig into the world of visions and projects that address climate action and sustainability in Europe. His Bachelor in Theatre brings out the creative side of Lars, whose interest have moved on from "land to sea" as he frames it. With a Masters in Entrepreneurship and Business Development he continues to work with NTNU (Norwegian University of Sciene and Technology) and Climate KIC (Accelerator) to support and lead innovation projects for sustainable development. Laura, who has a PhD in meteorology is pointing out that weather affects everyone on this planet. Physics and cloud formation are her key interest and therefore, she really understands the changes in the climatic system. In the episode, we feature several European projects such as CityXChange for sustainable urban development as well as (maybe the first!!!) church in the world with a carbon neutral strategy.
