Talk to a HG Coach 1-on-1: https://bit.ly/46bIkdoDr. K's NEW Guide to Love, Sex, & Relationships is here! Order now: https://bit.ly/4dO3x0VDr. K's Guide to Mental Health: https://bit.ly/44z3SztHG Memberships : https://bit.ly/3TNoMVf Products & Services : https://bit.ly/44kz7x0 HealthyGamer.GG: https://bit.ly/3ZOopgQIn this episode, Dr. K unpacks the psychology and data behind transitioning from friends to lovers, explaining why the traditional "friend zone" is actually the most successful starting point for a romantic relationship. Moving away from the high-stakes, dramatic gestures often seen in movies, he breaks down the science of social environments, the developmental stages of attraction, and why a grand confession of love is almost guaranteed to sabotage your chances. What to expect in this episode: The Friends-to-Lovers Blueprint: Why the dreaded "friend zone" is actually the most common path to romance, with data showing that 70% of couples start out as friends. You'll also learn why you must play the long game, as the average successful transition takes 21.9 months. The Open vs. Closed Field Dynamics: How dating apps act as "open fields" where physical attractiveness is virtually the only deciding factor. In contrast, "closed fields" (like work projects or friend groups) naturally highlight deeper, highly attractive traits like humor, reliability, and shared values. Small Talk is a Red-Flag Filter: Why the primary goal of small talk isn't actually to get to know someone, but rather a crucial "safety assessment" designed to weed out catastrophic red flags before you invest your energy. Why Grand Confessions Backfire: How blurting out a dramatic, high-stakes declaration of love maximizes psychological uncertainty, panics your friend, and forces them to pull away from the friendship entirely to regain safety. The Six Destabilizing Triggers: The specific events that shake up a stable friendship and can trigger romantic feelings, ranging from supportive bonding during a personal crisis to the sudden threat of competing relationships. The One-Sided Exclusivity Trap: Why closing yourself off to other dating options while waiting around for a friend actually decreases your chances of being with them, and how third-party interest often serves as the catalyst they need to realize their feelings. The Art of Reducing Uncertainty: A practical guide to navigating the transition by systematically managing behavioral, mutuality, definitional, and future uncertainty. Dr. K explains how to make small, explicit moves that protect the friendship, giving your partner the safety to explore dating without fearing they will lose you forever. “We are now competing in conversation with someone's feed.”Connecting with others requires more than knowing what to say. The signals we send through our body language, the questions we ask, and even where we position ourselves can shape how others experience a conversation. In this Quick Thinks episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, behavioral researcher and author of Cues and Captivate, Vanessa Van Edwards joins Matt Abrahams to explore the subtle cues that make communication more engaging. She shares strategies for navigating networking events, sparking more meaningful conversations, and signaling the warmth and competence that shape charisma and connection.Takeaways:Connection starts before you speak. Visible palms, eye contact, positioning, and other nonverbal cues can signal warmth and openness, shaping how others experience an interaction from the start.Better conversations spark curiosity. Moving beyond routine small talk with engaging questions, surprising stories, and genuine enthusiasm can make interactions more memorable and meaningful.Activity:Create a conversational feed. Start a note on your phone and collect three things from your week—a surprising moment, an interesting observation, or a small win. Bring one into your next networking event or meeting as “conversational confetti” instead of defaulting to routine small talk.Printable Expanded Takeaways & ActivitiesEpisode Reference Links:Vanessa Van EdwardsVanessa's Books: Cues / CaptivateEp.301 Trust at First Sight: Create More Meaningful Connections Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedIn Chapters:(00:00) - Introduction (00:37) - Why Your Hands Matter (02:20) - Networking With Confidence (05:34) - Make Small Talk More Engaging (09:03) - The Science of Charisma (13:11) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors.  These partnerships support the ongoing production of the podcast, allowing us to bring it to you at no cost.Strawberry.me. Opportunities for human connection are all around us. When we're in a café. At a restaurant. In a checkout line. Each instance is an opportunity for small talk with a stranger. And these interactions can yield big benefits. Unfortunately, most of us are missing out. We're not aware of how powerful these experiences can be. And that's where researchers are sharing some incredible findings. University of Sussex psychology professor Gillian Sandstrom is one of these researchers. Gillian has spent decades studying how these kinds of connections work and what they give us. More recently, she's been researching the link to kindness. And if you're skeptical about talking to strangers, Gillian's written a book, Once upon a Stranger: The Science of How “Small” Talk Can Add up to a Big Life, that may be what you need to change your mind. The Art of Small Talk, Dating Dilemmas & Restaurant Etiquette

The Rizzuto Show

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 10, 2026 22:10

Apparently, humans are talking less, dating costs roughly the GDP of a small island nation, and picking the wrong restaurant might get you rejected before you even order an appetizer. Welcome to another funny podcast episode of The Rizzuto Show, where modern romance, social skills, and basic human interaction are put under the microscope by several men who may or may not be qualified to operate said microscope. The crew kicks things off with a study suggesting people are speaking 30% fewer words per day than they did 20 years ago. Texting, remote work, apps, online ordering, and our collective desire to avoid asking strangers how their day is going may be slowly murdering small talk. Naturally, this turns into a debate over whether small talk is an important social skill or just an obstacle standing between you and the salad you ordered downstairs.Moon admits that talking to strangers has basically become his personal training regimen, Rafe defends the lost art of actually communicating with another human being, Scott brings the small-town friendliness, and Rizz is patiently waiting for telepathy so he can stop participating altogether. Then things somehow get philosophical. Are social media platforms actually “social” anymore? Did we replace friends with followers? Are we eventually getting an app where everyone just grunts at each other? Honestly, don't rule it out. From there, the funny podcast chaos heads directly into dating.First up: is having roommates a romantic deal breaker? A dating trend suggests some singles see living alone as proof that you've got your life together financially and personally. That raises the obvious question: do men and women judge this the same way? Rafe has some thoughts, including exactly how much questionable housekeeping a man might overlook when he finds someone attractive. We regret to inform you the answer is: quite a bit.Money isn't helping matters either. A survey says 25% of Americans believe their financial situation has prevented them from finding true love, while the conversation introduces an estimated six-figure salary tied to feeling financially ready for romance. Apparently Cupid has updated his terms of service and now requires proof of income. Finally, we arrive at the Great Restaurant Debate.A 29-year-old comedian and influencer went viral after canceling a first date with a 38-year-old finance guy because his restaurant selection was too casual. Her argument? The restaurant a potential partner chooses says something about compatibility, lifestyle, and effort. The show's counterargument quickly becomes slightly less scientific: what exactly qualifies someone as “Chili's material”?Moon defends the right to have whatever ridiculous dating standards you want. Rizz defends his right to judge those ridiculous standards. Rafe points out that what many guys consider an elaborate special occasion might basically be what women already organize with their friends on a random Sunday.Somehow everybody has a point, which is deeply inconvenient. So what's the real dating red flag: roommates, bad texting, cheap restaurants, unrealistic expectations, or being incapable of carrying on a five-minute phone conversation? We don't solve any of those problems, obviously. But this funny podcast does provide plenty of unsolicited analysis from Rizz, Moon Valjean, King Scott, and Rafe Williams.Come for the death of small talk. Stay for the dating economics. Leave questioning whether you're fancy-restaurant material or destined for the 2-for-$20 forever.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

At a Fleischmanns street fair, a bottle with a bright red label and bold white type — Station Navy Strength Gin — stops Brett at the Skillers booth. Owner James Rooney pours a taste and explains why British sailors once needed their gin strong enough that gunpowder would still ignite if it got splashed with the stuff. That bottle leads to a drive up to Lexington, NY, to see where it's made.Skillers Mountaintop Distillery occupies a small pre-fab barn in what started as Rooney's ski house property near Hunter. Kaatscast walks us through some of the New York state laws that made a small operation like his possible — the Micro Distillery Act of 2003, which cut licensing fees enough to let small producers in; the Farm Distillery Act of 2007, which let distillers open tasting rooms and sell direct, the way wineries already could; and the Craft New York Act of 2014, which simplified licensing further and let farm distilleries sell in satellite locations. In exchange, farm distilleries have to source at least 75% of their ingredients from New York — Skillers uses 100% New York corn as the base for all three of its spirits, filling in the small remainder with botanicals like coriander that can't be grown locally. The three bottles get a full tasting. Greywacke vodka takes its name from the bluestone bedrock under the Catskills, and Rooney credits its stony, mineral edge to Schoharie Creek water that's filtered through that rock. The navy strength gin, bottled at 57% ABV, is built specifically to survive being mixed into a Negroni without landing flat. And horilka — a honey and chili spirit named for the Ukrainian word for flower (kvitka) — nods to the area's Ukrainian community, using local honey and an ultrasonic extraction process to pull flavor from Thai chilies.Gin-smith Jeff Graham describes running the still, watching a batch drip for hours to yield about 20 gallons at a time. Marketing director Todd Spire talks about the tasting room's weekend acoustic music series. And we learn that Skillers spirits are now on shelves at Elevated Wines in Hunter and behind the bar at Small Talk in Woodstock and Peekamoose in Big Indian. Next up: a Skillers Negroni made entirely in-house, which means Rooney is now considering his own line of vermouth.FeaturingJames Rooney, founder and owner, Skillers Mountaintop DistilleryJeff Graham, gin smithTodd Spire, director of marketingRic Rawlins, tasting guestMusic: "Growing Up Catskills" by Josh Roy Brown, from the documentary of the same name.

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. Maybe like me you love hearing stories by women who know who they are. They don't waste words on small talk. They don't give "nice" little speeches. When they speak, the whole room stops. Many of us spend our lives doing the exact opposite. We say what we think people want to hear. We shy away from speaking our truth, offering our ideas. For example, recall a time when you spoke up in a meeting. The surface story is: “I pitched an idea, it got rejected, and I sat down.” That's a report, not a story. The real story happens when you ask yourself why rejection stung so bad. It wasn't about the project; it was the moment you sat down and realized you've been shrinking yourself to make other people comfortable—and you're finally done with that. The memorable story—the one that sits in your chest—arises from your “depth of inquiry.” You're not looking for glory; you're fighting for your right to be seen and heard. TIP: Expressing yourself creatively isn't about being showy. It's about standing in your own shoes, saying exactly what you mean, and meaning what you say. Speak your truth like you know what you're talking about... because you do.  And, I can help. "People aren't inside of our heads, so you have to give them that emotional information as well as the factual information."Humor is more than entertainment—it's a powerful way to create connection. As a comedian, writer, and former teacher, Chris Duffy has learned that laughter, curiosity, and emotion can transform even ordinary conversations into memorable experiences. In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Duffy joins Matt Abrahams to explore how humor can strengthen communication, build deeper connections, and make ideas more memorable. Together, they discuss how to engage an audience, bring authenticity to repeated messages, and create conversations that invite others to participate rather than simply listen.Key Takeaways:Connection comes before comedy. Humor is most effective when it invites others into the conversation, rather than putting the spotlight on yourself.Emotion makes ideas memorable. Combining facts with curiosity, emotion, and storytelling helps audiences understand, remember, and engage with your message.Activity:Create a conversational doorknob. In your next conversation, replace one routine response with an observation, opinion, or question that invites discussion. Notice how offering a "doorknob" changes the depth and energy of the conversation.Episode Reference Links:Chris DuffyChris's Book: Humor MeEp.13 Make 'Em Laugh: How to Use Humor as a Secret Weapon in Your … Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (01:03) - Lessons from the Classroom (01:52) - Curiosity Captures Attention (04:48) - Facts Need Emotion (05:49) - Sounding Authentic (09:29) - Calming Performance Nerves (11:01) - Jamming vs. Joking (14:36) - Becoming Funnier (19:01) - Better Conversations (22:53) - The Final Three Questions (26:48) - Conclusion

Air Date: 7/7/2026 Today we use the 2026 World Cup to pull everything that runs under the game up into the light. Nearly a quarter of the players are representing a country other than the one they were born in, praised as national heroes when they score but scorned as foreigners when they lose. The history of colonialism built the machinery that turns immigrants into targets, and the results are playing out live around this year's tournament, in the towns that throw their arms open and the borders that slam shut, in who a country will claim and who it leaves outside. Kalina Silverman, founder of the global Big Talk movement, joins Zibby to discuss her inspiring new book, BIG TALK: How to Skip the Small Talk, Make Meaningful Connections, and Enrich Your Life. She shares how her own loneliness sparked a decade-long mission to help people forge deeper connections through meaningful conversations and offers practical tips for becoming more approachable, asking better questions, and building community in an increasingly disconnected world.Zibby also chats with Lu Chekowsky about her whip-smart, deeply personal, and wildly entertaining memoir, DON'T BUY WHAT I'M SELLING: On Breaking Up with Advertising and Finally Learning to Love My Whole Fat Self. Lu reflects on a career at the highest levels of the advertising industry, the burnout that nearly cost her her life, and the complicated relationship between media, body image, grief, and self-worth. Together, they explore the power of using your own voice, redefining success, and finding healing by finally listening to your body.** Want more? Become a part of my community! Pat Gray Unleashed
TikTok Terror Plot on Trump's UFC Event FOILED! | 6/17/26

The FBI just foiled a mass casualty terror plot targeting Americans at the White House — and TikTok helped recruit the killers. You need to watch this before it gets buried under the next news cycle. Five Americans have been arrested and charged after the FBI disrupted a chilling multistate plot to attack the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn. We're talking explosive-laden drones targeting buildings to force a mass evacuation — then a pre-staged sniper team waiting for the crowd. A second wave was allegedly planned to storm the White House gate. This wasn't some vague threat. These people had Signal chats, aerial maps, sniper positions, escape routes, and $3,000 in gear. They called themselves "Vanguard of the Old" — and they used TikTok to recruit. Here's what's wild: Investigators identified 23 people in the planning network. Only five are charged so far. The FBI learned about the plot partly because a 19-year-old suspect's OWN MOTHER called law enforcement. She noticed her son spending his graduation money on ballistic plates, ammo, and plate carriers. That detail alone should tell you everything about what was almost lost that day. We also cover: Did Trump just SNUB Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Keir Starmer? Explosive leak: 14-point memorandum of understanding with Iran exposed. JD Vance vs. "The View" (aka "The Coven"): Fiery showdown you have to see. McDonald's brings back the beloved fried apple pie to celebrate America 250. Hillary Clinton throws Joe Biden under the bus: “He made a terrible mistake.” Drop a comment: Do you think TikTok should finally be banned after this? YES or NO — Pat reads every single one. And honestly — does it surprise you that the mainstream media barely covered this? Tell us below. If you want the stories the legacy media hopes you never see, subscribe to "Pat Gray Unleashed."
