We are joined by freelance writer Rod Lampard, who is published in Caldron Pool, the Spectator Australia, Dads4Kids and the Canberra Declaration. Rod returns to the show, having appeared on episodes 45 and 69 of the ExCandidates, this time to discuss World issues that he has recently written about in Caldron Pool. Our conversation weaves around the recent election of Javier Milei as President of Argentina, as well as the account of Xi Van Fleet who grew up during the Cultural Revolution in China. In this episode, Faith talks about her 9 years of looking for opportunities in science in Kenya while having a masters degree finally paying off. The Vulnerable Scientist is a Kenyan-based podcast that focuses on scientists' stories about their daily lives, work, and how they got to where they are. I am your host Sarah Nyakeri, a scientist, informal science communicator and a hiker. I am a multidisciplinary individual that does digital marketing and website design during my free time. The main questions asked that scientists are expected to answer vulnerable are: How are you, Introduce yourself, how did you become a scientist, What are the highs and lows you have experienced in your science career, tell the listeners about your hobbies, what question would you like to answer that has not been asked and how do you feel after having this conversation. Why did I start this podcast? You might ask. When doing my MSc project, my experiments started to fail at a certain period and it was very frustrating. I thought, If I finally get a new vaccine target for CBPP in cows, it would be all smiles but no one will ever know what I went through. I also wondered how many scientists were going through the same rough patch but did not openly talk about it?One day when I had just had a rough day, I talked into a mic about my day and I felt better. That was the first episode. At first, I thought it would just be journalling but after some fellow scientists heard it, they wanted to be Vulnerable too. Since then I have brought scientists from different fields to tell their stories of the highs and lows they have experienced with honesty and authenticity being the lead of our informal and long conversations.I enjoy asking questions since I am a naturally curious person. Feedback from the audience including scientists and non-scientists is the main motivation why I message scientists or accept their request to be on the podcast, schedule an interview, edit audio, design the artwork and post it and share it on social media platforms. It is a full-time job that requires me to spend from my pocket with no monetary returns, but I enjoy it.If you want to be Vulnerable on the show, send me an audio message either on speak pipe (https://www.speakpipe.com/VulnerableScientistVoicemail ) or anchor (https://anchor.fm/thevulnerablescientist/message). Feel free to reach out too if you want to talk about a certain topic in the science career space or anything as a scientist that might have nothing to with science but affects scientists. Discerning voices at the gate: If we believe the best, and hope the best, and pure in our thoughts how do we discern Gods voice in the negative situations? What about when God is telling us so and so is a pedophile, so and so is lying, so and so is in sin, so so is trying to make a hitting on me? #1 give no room for the devil. (Locks keep honest men honest) It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. Psalms 118:8There is not one verse in the Bible that says to trust man, we should never blindly put our trust "the man of God". Never blindly put our trust "the man of Gods” prophecies, you judge if a man of Gods word is from God by if it comes to pass.Never blindly put our trust "the man of Gods” in mans character etc. Our trust is in God alone. If people understood this we would not have so much disappointment. But our flesh always want to put our confidence and trust in something we can see, feel, touch. Our flesh always want to put our confidence in our spouse or our president. But our trust must only be in the Lord, in whom there is no shadow or turning. So we lock our doors, never leave our kids with other folks, have passwords on our phones etc. I love you, but I don’t give reckless trust to mankind, I do background checks.I believe what you do, and not what you say. Christians in America experience. Not because I’m defiled, but in my unconditional love for you I recognize we live in a broken world, with broken people, and we deal with each other according to that reality. When experiencing this seemingly unusual euphoric state (perhaps a symptom of the brain returning more balance chemically - my best guess). It can seem everything is working out just fine. In my experience of this, it has become a sign, a warning even, to be careful. This euphoric state often leads to early complacency that can land you right back in the place you're feeling so good about having just left and in the case of the next two episodes - relapse.

So today's episode is super exciting and different. We are collaborating with another awesome podcast that we found right here in our town. Brett, the founder of this podcast, actually went to the same high school as me, and then both went on to study in USC. We knew of each other, but knew that we'd be highlighting people's stories in life. Struggle to Sovereignty Podcast is a team of guys who use their platform to unify today's society through lofty ideals and impactful stories. Before starting his senior year in college, Brett wasn't ready to settle in with the rest of society and act like his life was sunshine and rainbows. He made the realization that he wanted to celebrate the daily human struggle, and what better way to do that than through a podcast! Struggle to Sovereignty is already on their second season, releasing weekly podcasts with guests anywhere from pro athletes, musicians, business owners and much more. Today's episode is more of a thought-provoking tip in the form of a timeless story. If you like this or want to suggest a better name for this segment, drop me an email at andy@whatandyfound.comThe Butterfly (Struggles)A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.Until it suddenly stopped making any progress and looked like it was stuck. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, although it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man didn’t think anything of it and sat there waiting for the wings to enlarge to support the butterfly. But that didn’t happen. The butterfly spent the rest of its life unable to fly, crawling around with tiny wings and a swollen body.Despite the kind heart of the man, he didn’t understand that the restricting cocoon and the struggle needed by the butterfly to get itself through the small opening; were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings. To prepare itself for flying once it was out of the cocoon.Moral of the story:Our struggles in life develop our strengths. Without struggles, we never grow and never get stronger, so it’s important for us to tackle challenges on our own, and not be relying on help from others.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/whatandyfound)
In some ways women really don’t understand the struggles men deal with internally. Traditionally were considered to be the providers and the head of the house. In today's society this has changed in the majority of households. Despite this change many people underestimate the struggles men deal with internally when comes to their family, professional and personal life. Today, Reggie Maddox is going to discuss several areas in which men are hesitant to discuss with others. Often times men may behave in a certain way on certain days in which his partner may find to be confusing. Misinterpreting his behavior with the wrong response can cause him to him to take his emotions into a deeper area of isolation. Communication is the key to any relationship (friends, family, co-workers and of course marriage). This is not to disregard the struggle of women as we all know they have their struggles as well. On the other hand, resources and assistant for men is extremely limited. But men may be less likely to admit when they feel vulnerable, whether to themselves, friends, or a GP. They also can be more reluctant than women to see a doctor. Let's talk about this and see what we can learn from each other. April H. Collins, discusses her book, “Only the Strong Thrive: A True Story of Struggle, Perseverance and Triumph”. There are times in life when we will all encounter great obstacles, whether they are barriers to success in our careers, relationships, or issues with our health. Often these obstacles may seem insurmountable, but in her book April takes a different angle. Using her faith as a foundation, she faced hardships and challenges that could easily have broken others and denied them their dreams, but she uses the lessons learned to provide you with the motivation to choose a good way of living, forgive others, free yourself from mental and emotional chains and be happier as a result. In each chapter you will discover something new that will add another layer to the strength you already have within you and, with an application that reaffirms these, "Only the Strong Thrive" becomes a building block, not only for the moment, but for the rest of your life.

God promised to be with us but he never promised there would not be struggles. It is vital as believers that we trust God in all areas of our lives. He works in us even in our struggles. All things work together for His good. God always has a plan and makes ways of escape before we enter into trials and tests.
