In today's Daily Fix: Xbox has officially delayed Avowed to February 18th, 2025. Their reason? Too many games. Xbox is apparently aware of the packed release window toward the end of 2024/early 2025, so they want to make sure the game gets the attention it deserves, even if that means delaying its release. In other news, Sega has trademarked Yakuza Wars, which sounds like the next entry in the popular Like a Dragon series. Unfortunately the trademark paperwork doesn't even mention that this is a game, so it could be anything, really. And finally, a new Darksiders game was revealed in THQ Nordic's latest digital showcase. The last entry was Darksiders 3 in 2018, and this new entry will be developed by Darksiders 3 and Remnant: From the Ashes developer Gunfire Games.

Mit der 166. Episode des SpielBar Podcasts gehen wir in die nächste Runde des Pixel Talks. Vielen Dank für's einschalten und am Mikrofon sind für euch Olu und Marco. Mit dabei sind wie immer die zuletzt gespielten Videospiele und ein bunter Strauß an News. Fangen wir aber zunächst mit den gespielten Spielen an und da sieht's ziemlich mau bei Marco aus. Zum Glück ist Olu dabei und berichtet von Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade und FF7 Rebirth! Im großen Newsblock gibt's unter anderem Gerüchte um ein Gears of War auf der PlayStation, einer bevorstehenden Ankündigung zu Like A Dragon - Apex Legends rudert kräftig zurück und Netflix macht nun ernst. Capcom ist so nett und verkauft weiterhin physische Versionen, die 2. Staffel zur Fallout-Serie soll uns schneller ins Wohnzimmer flattern als wir denken und zu Helldivers II gibt es ein richtig dickes Update am 06. August! Außerdem öffnet das PS VR2 seine Pforten für den PC, ebenfalls am 06. August. Dafür schließt sich aber die Tür für Halo. Paramount+ zieht der Serie den Stecker und wer nun ein Tränchen verdrückt, der kann Halo: Combat Devolved spielen. Ein Fan-Projekt im Gewand des Game Boy Color. Worüber sprechen wir noch? Bei Humble Games brennt der Baum, auch bei Bungie ist nach wie vor richtig derbe Druck auf dem Kessel, die SAG-AFTRA streikt und überhaupt, dass Thema Künstliche Intelligenz sorgt für großen Unmut und Sorgen in der Branche. Es gibt aber auch positive Meldungen. Innerhalb von Bethesda und Blizzard gibt es die ersten Gewerkschaften, Hunt: Showdown 1896 wurde enthüllt und auch wenn ich es kaum sagen mag: aber THQ Nordic hat mit dem Summer Showcase bei ein paar Videospielen unser Interesse geweckt. Jennifer und Björn Pankratz prägten über zwei Jahrzehnte lang mit ihrem Studio Piranha Bytes die deutsche Spielebranche: Gothic, Risen, Elex - kernige Rollenspiele mit derbem Humor und kantigen Charakteren, die zwar nicht immer kommerzielle Riesenerfolge wurden, aber von einer treuen Fan-Community bis heute geliebt und zelebriert werden. Der "Ruhrpott-Charme" galt als das Markenzeichen des Entwicklerteams mit Sitz in Essen. Und dann die Schlagzeilen Anfang 2024: Piranha Bytes, das seit 2019 zum Studio-Portfolio von THQ Nordic gehörte, ist Geschichte. Das Studio geschlossen, alle MitarbeiterInnen entlassen, ein prominentes Kapitel der deutschen Spielebranche beendet. Für Jennifer und Björn Pankratz bedeutete dies die Chance, noch einmal ganz neu anzufangen. Und so gründeten sie gemeinsam Pithead Studios, ein neues Studio, das in Zukunft Indies machen will - "mit kleineren, aber umso immersiveren Spielwelten", wie sie ankündigen. Nun hat sich das Duo mit Gastgeber Dom Schott getroffen, um über ihre Pläne für die Zukunft zu sprechen: Es geht um die Vision für ihre zukünftige Arbeit und warum sie nach dem Ende von Piranha Bytes nicht einfach alles hingeworfen haben. Außerdem blicken sie auf die Zeit bei Piranha Bytes zurück, sinnieren über Lektionen, die sie gelernt haben, sprechen über die Rolle von KI-Tools für ihre eigenen Projekte und vieles, vieles mehr.

Bioware is on the chopping block if Dragon Age doesn't do well. It seems like a lot of third parties face oblivion when a single game isn't an over the top success, much less a failure. Are there certain genres that have become doomed for third party devs? A first party can pump out a triple AAA block buster single player game and if it is middling at best, that developer will probably get another shot. But if you're owned by EA?
