In this classic episode the UOR team talks with the film makers from J3 films about their documentary Extraordinary: The Stan Romanek Story, regarding their focus on Stan Romanek's claims of alien abduction and targeting by dark forces to keep him quiet. This is a highly controversial show in retrospect due to the fact that after this documentary film was released, Stan was convicted of having child pornography on his computer, along with claims that he faked evidence. Stan's case has been completely dismissed by the UFO community. However, a few people feel that Stan was targeted and discredited by those same dark forces who finally silenced him permanently. Regardless of where you may stand regarding Stan's ultimate guilt or innocence, the film makers take an unbiased approach to the subject matter and what they discovered while making the documentary film before Stan was charged and convicted. It's worth watching so that you can make up your own mind.Original Air Date: April 21, 2014Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/paranormal-uk-radio-network--4541473/support.

Today we will discuss self-identity in the context of not knowing one's birth origins. How do social and familial circumstances shape our identities when we enter the world, and throughout our lives? In particular, what is the potential impact of not knowing the origins of your DNA, and the person who embodies it? Nuclear families, parents, guardians, and other immediate people in a child's life, often well-intentioned have withheld knowledge of children's birth identities. While it is more common for this to be a matter of paternity, children who are adopted, whose parents have died, or who otherwise live not knowing the origins of their birth, may also not know the identity of who gave birth to them. What are the reasons for this, and how does this ultimately impact the self-identity of children and adults? David Tereshchuk, author of A Question of Paternity: My Life as an Unaffiliated Reporter, will share his insight and intimate experiences, seeking to find the identity of his father. His story is heartrending and one that will be deeply resonant for so many.

With interviews from the journalists behind some of the biggest UAP stories like the New York Times' Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal, POLITICO's Bryan Bender, KLAS-TV's George Knapp, Popular Mechanics Tim McMillan, and others, Damante navigates how the news industry works and provides insight into some of the biggest UAP stories ever to be broken. In midlife, Peter J. Boni learned the truth of his genetic origins: his parents had used sperm donor assistance to conceive him. The news wasn't revealed by a DNA test or directly from a parent, the way most donor-conceived individuals find out. Instead, the news came from another person who had been with his mother in a rehabilitation center while she recovered from heart surgery and a post-operative stroke; his mother had begun to share the story with others of using a sperm donor to conceive in 1945 but had not shared it with her son yet. "All of the locks that guarded her secrets no longer worked," Boni explained. This revelation led to a conversation between Boni and his mother during which he shared with her how disruptive it had been to discover he was sperm donor-conceived later in life. In this episode of DNA Clarity and Support, Boni describes not only the personal experience of learning he is 'semi-adopted' but also the outcomes of his extensive research on the sociological, scientific, and legal aspects of assisted reproductive technologies. Boni's book Uprooted published in 2022 is dedicated to sharing the outcomes of his research, much of which is likely unknown even to those who work professionally in ART world. The conversation between host Brianne Kirkpatrick and Boni swings back and forth, exploring the personal impacts on Boni and his awareness of the need for societal change. Boni shares how the new trauma of the NPE ('not parent expected') discovery rekindled some of the old trauma from his past, requiring hard work in the therapist's office to work through. He describes the discovery of a half-sibling and the development of relationships with her and other newly-discovered biological relatives. An important aspect of Boni's work is his desire to shine a light on the areas of the assisted reproductive industry where change is needed. He speaks of the Bill of Rights of the Donor Conceived that is listed at the conclusion of Uprooted and encourages the discussion and changes needed on a legislative level to start happening. The discussion with Boni hits upon main points that can help others who are not donor-conceived understand what it is like to go through the process of a misattributed parentage experience. It's an important one. I hope the same will be true for you.  If you want to dig deeper into Roy's thinking, then last year he published a book which is the title of the episode ‘Creativity Without Frontiers'. It's available here: Creativity Without Frontiers: How to make the invisible visible by lighting the way into the future: Sharples, Roy S: 9781736568606: Amazon.com: Booksbut as we discuss in the episode, visiting your local independent bookshop might be preferable

What if, halfway through life, you found out that your father wasn't your biological father? It happened to Peter J. Boni at the age of forty-nine, when his mother suffered a stroke that led her to divulge a family secret: Like an estimated one million people worldwide, Boni was donor-conceived. And, like so many of them, he was also “misattributed”—a phrase that means one or both of the parents on your birth certificate are not your flesh and blood. What followed were more than two decades of searching for the identity of his biological father. A combination of research via Ancestry.com and 23andMe led him not only to the name of the anonymous donor whose sperm had been used to create him, but to two half-siblings whom he has since been able to meet. He is aware of five other potential siblings, and lives with the knowledge that he may have many more. Boni uses his acquired expertise to shed light on, and advocate for the regulation of, a multibillion-dollar assisted reproductive technology industry in which hundreds of children are routinely conceived from a single donor (if retail theory is applied, at most sperm banks 20% of the inventory is purchased by 80% of the people). These children grow into adults who are unaware of the existence of their half-siblings. Boni explains the potential consequences, offers suggestions for how to improve oversight.

Clive Grinyer is the Head of Service Design at the Royal College of Art in London. Clive's an acknowledged expert in service design, design thinking, and design and technology innovation, who has led award-winning design teams for companies around the globe. He started in design consultancy with IDEO in London and San Francisco before co-founding the design consultancy company Tangerine with Martin Derbyshire and future Apple design chief and RCA chancellor, Jony Ive. He went on to build and lead design teams for Orange, Samsung, and Cisco, and was Director of Service Design for Barclays. As Director of Design of the UK's Design Council, he created the Design Demand program, taking design into over one thousand UK companies. As a consultant, he's worked with the cabinet office policy lab and at Nesta. Clive speaks at national and international conferences, writes articles and blogs, and has published Smart Design, a book on design and technology.   Show Summary Clive discovered his interest in design at an early age, in part thanks to toys and dresses! His grandmother's dress shop introduced him to the idea that there were actual people out there whose job was making decisions about what we would like and what would be trendy. That would lead him to art school. A conversation with a career advisor uncovered an affinity for product design, and that's where Clive's design path began: designing physical objects. He worked for several well-known design consultancies, including Moggridge Associates (founded by Bill Moggridge, who would go on to co-found IDEO), and then Clive chose to co-found a design consultancy himself before shifting gears away from consulting altogether and going in-house, taking a position with Samsung, where he helped open the company's design office in Europe. After Samsung, Clive worked for a number of the world's leading corporations, culminating in a position with Barclays bank, where he again shifted--this time from digital design to service design--setting up their service design team and working on customer experience. Clive recently left the corporate world behind, taking the Head of Service Design position at the RCA not long before the COVID-19 pandemic began. "Hello again Word Lovers!" we will be exploring words of unknown origin in this episode. Charly opens by saying if he was a Mathematical institute he would offer a million pounds to anyone who can provide evidence of the etymology of the words covered in this show. (Ed: Not much chance of that, he still owes me for that water and nut roast I paid for in the autumn of '03!) Dog: This word seems to have emerged as a pejorative and then become the umbrella word for the animal. Charly states that you might utter the communication "Bad Dog!" at some point in your life and you would have used two words with unknown origin. Bad: There are some competing theories including the word bæddel derived from Old High German, which actually means hermaphrodite. It is argued the loss of the -el leads to the word we know today. This can be compared to wench from wenche/wencel or much from mycel. Bæddan in Proto Germanic meant to defile. In Norwegian Bad has meant trouble, fear or effort. In Danish, fight. It is all a big mystery. Oh, wait, Big, another word of unknown origin. (It was a Big Bad Dog!) Big: One of the competing theories is from Bugge, a Norse word meaning a Great Man. Boy: There is no clear theory on this word, mid 13th century use indicates it possibly originates from a word to describe a slave, knave or commoner. There is a French connection (Ed: All my own work by the way) to a word for somebody in chains, again referencing back to slavery. Girl: Original use seems to indicate that girl meant any child of any sex. Some guess work leads us to the Old English word gyrele, a diminutive of gurwjoz or the Proto Germanic gurwilon. Charly then attempts a pronunciation of a PIE word made entirely of consonants - ghwrgh - which seems to mean virgin. There is then a brief detour into diminutive suffixes in Germanic languages before we reluctantly draw a blank. Donkey: Connected to Dun meaning Brown, Dun is still used today as a horse colour. A brown animal with Key possibly being a diminutive suffix. Which was in fact Dunkey before morphing into Donkey. This seems a very credible root. Bird: Originally Bridd in older English but there seems to be a challenge that Old English for bird was fugol, clearly emerging from German. Vogel is bird in modern German and leads to the English word Fowl.
