Working around the clock might help you find success at your job, but what's the value if you feel burnt out? Now more than ever, finding a work-life balance that works for you is essential. Today Linda is joined by Amanda Abella, CEO and founder of Make Money Your Honey, to talk about the value of rest and relaxation and how Amanda finds balance in her own life. The benefits of finding time for rest and relaxation: Having time for relaxation helps generate better ideas, feel better physically, and be more emotionally balanced. These criteria not only affect your work productivity, but also your general mental health and ability to find meaning and happiness in your life.  How does Amanda relax? Personally, Amanda goes to the beach. But, for building her business, Amanda likes to think she's on a mission to fire herself.  To build stability and time for relaxation within her business, she thinks with the end in mind.  Most business owners don't think about the end result and take whatever comes to them.  When Amanda hired her first assistant, they sat down and planned their vision. Amanda only wanted to sell and make connections through podcasts. That's it.  It took them over two years for Amanda to get to that goal. But she started with that vision in mind and made decisions to reach it.  Amanda's experience with letting go:  Amanda naturally just generates ideas, so a big part of shutting down was accepting that's how she's wired, and there's nothing wrong with it.  Instead of fighting it, which was draining, she just accepted it. However, just because she lets herself develop ideas doesn't mean she starts implementing them all tomorrow.  Why relaxation is essential to Amanda's community: Amanda doesn't want her or her team to be running ragged because that doesn't help anybody.  She teaches sales to women, who are notorious underearners. Women are conditioned to overwork for little pay and not ask for what they want, and it creates a perpetual cycle of overworking and underearning. Amanda wants to teach women not to accept this. What can someone do if they have a hard time relaxing?  If you have a hard time relaxing, there's something you aren't owning or something you're trying to avoid. Do some self-inquiry to determine why and what the problem is. For Amanda, realizing there's a difference between recognizing her vision and goals and allowing herself to become overworked and overloaded feels different.  Episode Resources: If you're a woman, join her free Facebook group, where they do complimentary training once a week.  Find her podcast and videos on her YouTube channel, and connect with her on Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Houston (formerly Barbara Stanny) changed Amanda's life and revealed how to earn what you deserve and live at your full potential. ****TRIGGER WARNING**** Amanda Blackwood is a survivor of human trafficking. “At the age of 19, Amanda's life took a drastic turn down a very dark path. Her second brush with human trafficking is outlined in the book "Detailed Pieces of a Shattered Dream" and is not for the faint of heart. When Amanda escaped her captors, she didn't go back for the other girls whose screams haunt her dreams even now. For many years she wondered where they were and even if they survived their captivity. The second time, she was trafficked by someone she had known for seven years before the abuse began. Through her words, Amanda is determined to keep fighting human trafficking.” Amanda's newest book Custom Justice is available starting June 19th. A portion of every book sale goes to help fight human trafficking and to help rescue the kids still trapped in the life worse than death. In this episode, Amanda shares her story, her experience, her glimmers of hope, and how she is living with human trafficking now. Amanda Todd was still a child when she began to share her love of singing with viewers around the world on Youtube. Perhaps she was hopeful that she would be discovered like Justin Bieber, another Canadian youtuber, recently had. Like Justin, Amanda too found a sort of fame as a result of sharing her talents. Tragically, Amanda is known around the world not for her voice or her charm but as a cautionary tale about the evils that lurk all around us. As we know now, one of the people who was moved by Amanda's performances managed to sneak into her personal life, and infiltrate her inner circle. When Amanda shared an intimate photo, the anonymous predator would begin an odyssey of sextortion, harassment, and cyber stalking that would end in Amanda's death. Since taking her own life, over 50 million people have heard Amanda's story, largely as a result of a viral video she made shortly before her death. In the video, shot on a webcam in black and white, Amanda shares the her story by flipping through a series of index cards as she visibly sobs. Tonight, in this episode of Nighttime, we are going to hear Amanda's story by someone who has stood by Amanda through it, and still to this day carries on her search for justice, and continues her legacy. Falling through floors is probably not what you expect when you are on set filming. The old creepy house called out to Amanda Smith and Colin Babcock.  Amanda brought Colin into the house and he found it creepy and dilapidated. Both nodded at the notion that the house could be the set for a film. They just needed to figure out what type of film they could make. But there was a little bit of a conundrum because Colin did not have his usual filmmaking equipment.  Colin began to think he could use his iPhone camera, even though he had never done so, or needed to. But that was not the only challenge, as he and Amanda would soon come to find out.  Amanda’s younger sister, Storm Smith is a talented and, in my opinion, extraordinary musician. When Amanda asked if she and Colin could use her song to make a video, she immediately gave them permission. And now, Amanda and Colin had a story.  The words to the song are an expression that comes to real life in their music video titled after the song by Storm Smith, “Too Young.”  Performed by Amanda, their video sends a powerful message of hope. It was, ironically enough, filmed during the pandemic and performed by Amanda on camera. There is a story about the message of the video and the song, which is heartfelt. We are delighted to share a bit of the song, with permission, in the intro to our conversation with our guests in this episode.  Amanda and Colin spent a couple of days in pre-production working the schematics to shoot the video. Amanda’s father, Steve Smith, owned the house and gave his consent to film before it was renovated. Her mother, Terry Smith, helped with wardrobe and set design. Colin, prepped his iPhone XR to shoot and planned the shots, just as any cinematographer does.  In the meantime, all sorts of things began to happen which made the challenge of filming with a smartphone the least of their concerns. Once the film was “in the can” Colin edited the video and color grade it using Premier Pro. There were challenges covering electrical outlets from the scenes. Overall, the video has cinematic aesthetic value and the music is professionally produced which also elevates the overall quality of the film. In episode 96 of the SBP Podcast Mobile Filmmaking, you are going to listen to stories from both directors, Amanda and Colin. They share stories from their set experience and shooting with a smartphone. How some scenes were captured, including what to use when your protagonist is required to eat worms on camera, how to capture your actor in suspension without a green screen, and…the story about the stench in the house and what they found in the freezer.  But that is not all. Listen to their inspiring stories in our podcast. This was their first podcast guest appearance and we are stoked about that too.  You can also watch the video during the 10th anniversary edition of the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego. Having canned Amanda for her leaking at the end of the last episode, Bruce is pretty sure he's righted D&D's ship and is ready to set sail with a bigger role for Alison (which...is maybe proof of the bad judgment that got him here). Then he finds out that a consortium of doctors has bought up so much stock that he's no longer the majority shareholder. He's all set to prove to the new overlords that he's still fit to run the agency until he finds out the consortium is actually Peter, and that his replacement is Amanda. He does not take this news well! When Amanda takes over, she immediately promotes Billy and orders him to fire Alison -- who, by the way, is now drinking so much that she doesn't even remember all the abuse she's heaping on Billy and Susan. He seeks advice from Matt on how to proceed. Cue the intervention! Chris drives Sydney to Las Vegas, but instead of strong-arming her (or worse), he sets about seducing her, trying to impress her with lush accommodations and expensive clothes and jewelry. Everything's going great while he's winning at the tables! Then he stops winning and Sydney decides she'd better call home for help. The trouble is that once Jake, Jane, and Michael arrive, no one really believes Sydney is a kidnap victim -- not even Jake. Jo returns to the beach house on several occasions to try to take back her infant son, but her inchoate frenzy is really no match for Kimberly's careful planning. Shortly after that, the police would discover that Amanda's roommate Meredith had been brutally murdered in their home.In the series of events that followed, police would mistake Amanda's behavior as that of a guilty woman and send her down 4 year spiral of wrongful convictions, imprisonment and a scorching media character assassination that would change the way many of us view the legal system, and make many of us pause and think about which people in our lives we could actually trust. Click to Learn More Waiting to be Heard by Amanda Knox Honor Bound by Raffaele Sollecito Meredith by John Kercher   WWBD MerchBuy your WWBD swag here! Join the Conversation

A storm. A disappearance. A race against time... Mustique is in a state of breathless calm as tropical storm Cristobal edges towards it across the Atlantic. Most villa owners have escaped the island but a few young socialites remain, unwilling to let summer's partying end. American heiress Amanda Fortini is one such thrill-seeker - until she heads out for a morning swim and doesn't return. Detective Sergeant Samuel Wilton is just 28 years old and the island's only fully trained police officer. He quickly realises he needs to contact Lord and Lady Innerleithen, who bought the island decades ago and have invested time, money and love creating a paradise. Jasper is in St Lucia designing a new village of luxury villas but Lady Veronica (Vee to her friends) catches a plane immediately. Her beloved god-daughter, Lily, is on the island and this disappearance has alarming echoes of what happened to Lily's mother many years ago. Lady Vee would never desert a friend in need, and she can keep a cool head in a crisis. When Amanda's body is found, a murder investigation begins. Wilton knows the killer must be an islander because flights and ferry crossings have stopped due to the storm warning, but the local community isn't co-operating. And then the storm hits, and someone else disappears ... Warm, witty, surprising and endlessly entertaining, Murder on Mustique draws on Lady Glenconner's wealth of knowledge about the island and love of storytelling to create a gripping murder mystery. It delivers perfect escapism!

She traded in her combat boots for a diaper bag to stay home with her two boys and follow her husband’s military career. She is the host and creator of the Women of the Military Podcast sharing the stories of women who have served or continue to serve in the military. You can learn more about Amanda at her blog Airman to Mom. Amanda is a military spouse and veteran who served in the Air Force for six years as a Civil Engineer including a deployment to Afghanistan. She met her husband while attending college and they served on active duty together until their first son was born. It was then that she traded in her combat boots for a diaper bag to stay home. Amanda is now a mom of two boys and continues to follow her husband’s military career. She has lived in New Mexico, Ohio, California and currently resides in Northern Virginia. She published her first book in 2019 titled Women of the Military, sharing the stories of 28 military women. In 2019 she also launched her podcast also titled Women of the Military. On the podcast there has been representation from all five military branches and featured stories from the 23rd Secretary of the Air Force, the Women Air Force Service Pilots to present day. She has been published on multiple military sites and magazines, has been featured in a number of podcasts, and she was a panelist speaker at Podcast Movement in 2019. You can learn more about Amanda at her blog Airman to Mom. Key Points from the Episode with Amanda Huffman: Amanda, who was an officer in the Air Force, hosts a podcasts called “Women of the Military” to share the stories of other women veterans and build community amongst them She had been blogging after leaving the military and becoming a stay-at-home mother In 2017, she did a series on deployments, and put out a call to get people’s stories, and got those of many women telling their stories This was surprising as many female veterans did not feel comfortable sharing their stories, but when another woman asked, the response was stronger. She took the stories people shared to create a book of them called Women in the Military To keep the project going, she started interviewing those who were willing to share their stories without anonymity for her podcast She talked a lot about the feelings when you come home after serving, and finding that you couldn’t really understand what it would be like until you live it, and you realize how much of your identity the military was Amanda started her military career in ROTC while in college, with an interest to be in the military sparked in her after September 11th, which happened her senior year of high school The military gave her a purpose and alignment of beliefs that she had not had before as she had felt lost before Amanda was tasked to Afghanistan with the Army to work on roads, bridges, retaining walls and other public works projects in conjunction with the Afghan people While Amanda has been shot at, her experience with PTSD is not a result of that. It came from treatment within her base. The treatment, harassment, lies, manipulation and anger drove her PTSD. To understand why being mistreated can create PTSD, it’s important to remember the context of everyone’s lives being at risk. When Amanda was asked to do something she knew wasn’t right, the officer who requested it of her started spreading lies about Amanda in conjunction with another woman on base. There were many examples of how this played out, but the key issue being the repeated manipulation and disrespect in the context of lives being at risk At the same time, her husband also got into a masters program in Ohio, and moved there from New Mexico and bought a home while she was in Afghanistan so she came home to a home she didn’t know When she looked for help, the response was focused on whether she was suicidal, which she wasn’t When you aren’t suicidal, help becomes harder to get in the military and the response turns more to just dealing with it Today, after therapy, Amanda knows this isn’t the right approach or answer When you’re in it for so long, it’s hard to see that it can be better or that this isn’t normal, but therapy helped Amanda see that it can be better She didn’t get help until after her kids were born The switch that told her she needed help came from getting extremely, irrationally angry and knowing she can’t be that way for her kids She kept getting in the car to go her therapy group, but would talk herself out of it, and eventually decided to just drive to the meeting without allowing herself to think Once she started sharing, the flood gates opened up as she recognized she was in a community of others who were in similar places and could be supports for her from a place of understanding The cycle before was to calm down, but not talk about it again, so no progress was being made. Now it became about getting it out and talking through it. The last step of most 12 Step programs is to give back to the community, which is what the podcast is for Amanda Amanda originally thought a measure of being ok is to never get angry again What she’s come to realize is that people get angry, and that’s ok. It’s about what we do in those moments and how we handle it. The first step is to recognize that you have a problem and that it’s ok to not be ok Amanda’s story is a great reminder that we shouldn’t be comparing our difficulty to someone else’s as justification for ours not being valid or something to address because someone else’s seems worse She mentioned a book by Gary Chapman called Anger: Taming a Power Emotion, that helped her see that anger is a good thing and you can control how you use it and react Links: Website: Airmantomom.com Podcast: Women of the Military Podcast Book: Women of the Military Facebook: @airmantomon Instagram: @airmantomon Twitter: @airmantomom Subscribe to The Do a Day Podcast Keep Growing with Do a Day Get Bryan's best-selling first book,Do a Day, which is the inspiration for this show and can help you overcome your greatest challenges and achieve in life. The story of my guest today is so compelling and such a beautiful example of how our bodies have the capacity to not only heal physically but heal us on an emotional level as well. When Amanda Campbell was in her 20s, she had found herself in a hospital bed nearly crippled with multiple sclerosis. Having arrived at that state, she recognized that she had spent the few years previous in denial of her symptoms and the messages that were coming through her body.   In this episode, Amanda shares with us the shift in mindset that she had and how she got there, how to access your resilience (regardless of facing adversity), and how she's been able to leverage these two pieces (mindset plus resilience) in moving forward to build a successful business and help other people overcome difficult situations to live their lives on their terms.   It was truly a pleasure having this conversation and I cannot wait for you all to learn more about resilience, how a flexible mindset impacts everything that matters (from our body's ability to repair to how happy and resilient we are to how connected we feel), and how we can live a balanced life that allows for incredible health and growth both physically and mentally.   Key Takeaways: [1:30] About today's episode. [2:35] Welcoming Amanda Campbell to the podcast! [3:05] Amanda shares her beautiful story and the compelling turn of events with her health and the work that she is now doing in the world. [14:29] Amanda speaks about what shifted in her beliefs as a result of what she went through. [16:48] The evolution of how Amanda has come to view the role of her body as a communicator and partner in the work that she does in this world. She also speaks about the evolution of her mindset and the respect she has for her body. [19:39] How the concept of resilience has penetrated the work that Amanda does when she's helping other people with respect to their health. [21:16] Amanda shares her formula for resilience. [24:25] Is it possible for us to develop resilience and to refine the skills of resilience without necessarily facing adversity? [26:30] How do we, as parents, instill resilience in our children without putting them through trauma? Is resilience a gift to those who have gone through adversity? How do we make it accessible? [28:44] How going through adversity has impacted Amanda as a business person as well as accelerate her growth and the work that she's currently doing in the world. [31:20] What does Amanda do for self-care now so that she stays mindful of health? [35:22] When Amanda is working with a client that is going through both physical and emotional ailments, where does she start? Is it always the same place? Or does she prioritize one over the other? [36:17] About Fullscript. [37:35] Amanda's key performance indicators! [40:29] Where to find more about Amanda and the amazing work that she does! Overcoming adversity, Amanda discovered that a flexible mindset impacts everything that matters — our body's ability to repair, how happy and resilient we are, and how connected we feel.   “How we think and feel and believe is a mirror image of how we perceive our environment, how we will show up when tested, and the health of our body.” — Amanda Campbell   With a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis at age 24 and a paralysis at just 29 years old, Amanda was faced with never walking again. She was stretched to her limit, emotionally and physically. With no choice but to succeed and the odds stacked against her, Amanda had to change her mind about what could be possible to create new results.   Embracing a balanced approach, Amanda had to embrace uncertainty and change to discover what she was made of. Learning how to walk and run again led to her transforming her mind, body, and life. Now a decade on, Amanda's passion is to inspire others to embrace their obstacles as an opportunity to awaken their potential whilst maximizing health.   Amanda truly believes when given the right environment, the mind and body are capable of producing incredible results. Amanda founded her private practice Bend Like Bamboo in 2013. A year later she co-founded her second startup Nourissh that received funding from VinoMofo with a focus on nutrition. Today I interview the power house that is Amanda. Amanda deconverted just a year ago. She was raised by her mom and is half Puerto Rican. Her mom exposed her to religion at the age of 10 with the intention of it being a positive influence. When Amanda attended bible camp at the age of 15 she was given the god ultimatum and prayed the prayer of salvation. She became an unapologetic bible thumper, even praying for her own mom who wasn’t religious enough in Amanda's estimation. She met her husband and her religious community became very, very involved in their relationship. She was 24 and they got married within 6 months. We talk about the influence of purity culture on their relationship. Her husband has recently deconverted as well and they’ve opened up their relationship which has resulted in more honest and openness with each other. As a content warning, we do touch on Amanda’s experiences of sexual abuse and how it has impacted her later on in life. *****Now that we’ve begun to process our history with toxic religion, we seek to regain autonomy over our minds and bodies from residual narratives, whether cultural or religious; while working towards respecting and empowering the autonomy of others. Together, we seek to rejoin the human race and participate in this chaotic experience of existence Thanks for listening and remember: You are autonomous and so is everyone else. A major part of moving away from diet culture can be embracing the bodies we currently have, regardless of our body’s size or how “acceptable” diet culture deems it. And in that journey, looking at and realizing our internalized fatphobia can come up and be a lot. In this episode I talk with fat activist Amanda Martinez Beck on fat activism, fatness, the systemic things that affect fatness and how we can embrace the fact that our bodies (and all bodies) are good.   About Amanda Martinez Beck Amanda Martinez Beck is a fat activist, author, speaker and coach. She co-hosts the Fat & Faithful podcast along with fat activist J. Nicole Morgan and is the co-founder of the Ruah Storyteller Podcast. She is also the author of Lovely: How I Learned to Embrace the Body God Gave Me. When Amanda isn't watching Frozen II with her husband and 4 kiddos, she's sharing her work on Instagram and in her Facebook group, All Bodies Are Good Bodies. Small Steps in the Show:  Imagine what you would say to the younger version of yourself going through a hard time and have compassion for yourself. In this episode, Sara chats with Amanda Heins about her journey from food service industry sales rep, to serial entrepreneur, to independent grocer. Amanda shares the story of her husband passing unexpectedly in 2018 and leaving her sole owner of the store; discovering detailed notes he'd made about upgrading the business; and carrying out and wrapping up his envisioned remodel the day before construction was halted due to COVID-19. Today, Amanda lives in Roslyn, Washington and owns The Roslyn Grocery, a business operating on the front lines during the coronavirus pandemic.   Want to make your own career change? Amanda's Full Bio: Widow and single mother, Amanda Meck Heins, is owner and operator of The Roslyn Grocery in Roslyn, Washington.   Amanda graduated with a bachelor's of science degree from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington with the intention of going on to become a doctor. Having worked her way through school in multiple restaurant capacities, she was recruited by restaurant distributor, Food Services of America, and she took a sales position in beautiful Kittitas County, Washington.   When Amanda's children were born, her husband Matt stayed home, and she continued working. But sitting at home, caring for two babies every day became too much. So, the couple decided to open a little gift shop in Roslyn, which was just the beginning. Not long after, Amanda decided that her family and marriage were far more important to her than her sales position with FSA, which had proven to be time-consuming and high-pressure. So, she quit her position there, and the couple went on to open a candy store called Roslyn Sweets & Treats, then The Roslyn Grocery, and then The Red Bird Cafe. While she has since sold the gift shop, candy store, and cafe, Amanda still owns the grocery store.   Just two years ago, on her 40th birthday, Amanda's husband Matt died suddenly and left her a solo parent, and sole owner of The Roslyn Grocery. Early on, Amanda struggled with the grief of carrying on the business without him. But, with the love and support of her staff and community, she has continued to bring their shared dream to fruition. In fact, she finished a upgrade and remodel just in time to even better serve her tight-nit little community during the coronvavirus pandemic.   Connect with Amanda Heins and The Roslyn Grocery: Facebook: www.facebook.com/TheRoslynGrocery   Connect with Sara McArdle and Women Who Went for It: Facebook: www.facebook.com/womenwhowentforit  Website: www.womenwhowentforit.com  Nominate a Podcast Guest (we do not take nominations over email): www.saramcardle.com/podcast-guest  Email (see link above to nominate a podcast guest): womenwhowentforit@gmail.com  Phone: 503.893.2043   Want to make your own career change? One month in, my client Amanda told me: “I had no idea my anxiety, racing thoughts, and fatigue were due to being severely undermethylated and overloaded with copper!” Her lab tests had just confirmed the underlying causes of her suffering. When Amanda first came to me for nutritional therapy counseling, she was frustrated with doctors that told her nothing was wrong, she was a healthy young woman, and that basically she was just overreacting. “I know I’m not making this up,” she told me. “I can feel in my body that something is off, I just don’t know what it is or how to pinpoint it.” Although lab work from her doctor showed no abnormalities, I knew that going deeper and supporting her in a way she had not experienced before was the key to figuring it all out. After 6 months of working together, Amanda told me “My brain feels better, which allows my body to feel better. I no longer struggle with energy issues and my daily anxiety is gone. This is so liberating.” If Amanda’s story resonates with you, you’re not alone. I hear this every week in my clinic and it’s a sad aspect of our global healthcare system. The good news is that healing is always possible, we just need to know where to look. In our first episode, I shared what nutrients are and how they impact both the body and the brain. In today’s episode, I’m going to give you a crash course into some of the underlying causes of what I call the Big 5 Hurting Our World – depression and anxiety, autism, eating disorders, OCD, and ADHD – and how these root causes have a significant impact on the way you think, act, and feel. We’re going to dive into what nutrient deficiencies and overloads are, and how they impact the brain and body. By the end of this episode, you’ll have an entirely new understanding of how nutrient deficiencies and overloads may be affecting you. Just a brief recap: the ongoing class action lawsuit filed against Mined Minds has been dismissed. I went over how things have gone forward in the last episode, and i also interviewed Billyjack Buzzard about his experience with the organization. Since posting, someone has made me aware of the fact that, in the tweet in which Jonathan Graham announced that the lawsuit has been dismissed, Stephen New, a lawyer who represented Ty, Tori, and others, has responded with a few choice tweets. If anyone is looking for a more nuanced legal explanation of what has gone down, I suggest you start there. (Here: https://twitter.com/graham_jp/status/1161700954783342594) For this episode, I got in touch with Susan Graves. She went through the Mine Minds program in West Virginia. When Amanda and Jonathan started out, they said they could teach anyone to code, even out of work coal miners. In the last episode, we heard how Billyjack, an out of work coal miner, went above and beyond as a student in the program. Even after spending five days a week learning from Mined Minds, maneuvering his work schedule around the program, and going to work for them as an instructor and developer, he was abruptly fired for highly questionable reasons. He was left unable to demonstrate his work to tech companies, and, despite his best efforts has not found a job in the tech industry. Susan Graves also seemed like she was set up to succeed in Mined Minds. She had a background in computer science, and had her own accounting practice which she could work flexibly while learning to code. Like Billyjack, things didn’t pan out for her. I’m going to let Susan tell the rest. Read a text transcript at eLearningInside.com Follow me on Twitter: @henry_Kronk Email: henry@elearninginside.com

We try out lots of new things, we meet new people, we’re growing into new bodies and we’re starting to figure out the adult we will become. It is a period in our lives when we begin to define ourselves. So it’s a horrible irony that the teenage years are also a time that a lot of people start experiencing seizures. Today’s story comes from Amanda Plomp. Nowadays, Amanda defines herself as a runner, an athlete… and as an epileptic. But that wasn’t always the case. When Amanda started having seizures in her teens, it made her feel lost in her own body. Both the seizures and the medication she was prescribed to help stop them impacted on the activities that she enjoyed, and she hid her seizures from everyone, worried it would change what people thought of her. In the end, it was running that helped Amanda reconnect with her body, and redefine her sense of self. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it feels like the end of the world. But it doesn’t have to be. Our guests didn’t just overcome cancer naturally, they used it as a platform from which to be a voice for positive change. Pretty powerful stuff!   Amanda Deming - Healing cervical cancer - Episode 8 Cervical cancer killed nearly 4,000 women last year. It’s the second most common cancer among women. Conventional treatments, like surgery, chemo and radiation, aren’t just poisonous, they often lead to infertility. When Amanda was diagnosed with cervical cancer, she was determined not to go down that road. Instead, she chose a raw vegan diet, meditation, and yoga. She’s now cancer-free.   Jeff Witzeman - Cancer can be killed - Episode 190 When Jeff’s wife was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer, she was told her life would change forever: surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, a life without an essential organ. Instead of taking the doctor’s word for it, they travelled to Germany to treat the cancer to a spa. Thanks to juicing, a plant-based diet, hyperthermia (targeted heat therapy), oxygen therapy, intravenous vitamins, and colonics, she was completely cancer-free in just one month.    Tracey Edmonds - The truth about healing cancer - Episode 226 Just like Alli, Tracey lost both her parents to preventable diseases: her mom died from cancer and shortly after, her dad died from a heart attack. This made her determined to be a pillar of health and to spread the message through as many media outlets as possible. She launched the wellness website Alright Now to give people the tools they need to live their healthiest life - from nutrition and fitness to relationships and parenting. We think she rocks!   Jill Tomback - Beating breast cancer - Episodes 26, 27 and 28 Jill and I were room-mates when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer at just 25 years old. She endured four years of conventional treatment, including chemo and surgery. But since then, she’s taken the holistic route: she’s a plant-powered Pilates superstar, an avid juicer and a big fan of the Gerson therapy. As of this year, she’s celebrating 9 years cancer-free.     Preventing Cancer Naturally Part of cancer prevention is giving your body the tools it needs to be in great health. That’s why we love Organifi juice powder. It’s the perfect combination of detoxifying, energizing nutrients to keep disease at bay. Alli’s personal favorite is the Organifi Gold, which contains turmeric, ginger, reishi and turkey tail mushroom to keep you calm, help you sleep and soothe your muscles. Just mix the powder with hot water or oat milk for a super creamy bedtime drink. Organifi products are completely vegan, gluten free, soy free and keto-friendly. We have a very special guest today, it's my wife Amanda Conrad. Amanda has a lot of knowledge to offer. Many people in her family have struggled with addiction. She is here to talk about what it is like growing up with addiction and being the only one not struggling with it. Some of the things we discuss are how behaviors that she thought were normal actually weren’t. She started to realize this when she was around other families. We also talk about why Amanda was never an addict, how Amanda had to set boundaries with her father, and more. Show Notes [02:35] Amanda and I have been married just over 4 years. I am an alcoholic and a drug addict. [02:56] Addiction played a role in Amanda's life well before me. [03:11] Her father started drinking when Amanda and her sister were in the 4th or 5th grade. He was sober for 3 or 4 years. [04:17] Being a dry drunk in the recovery world is when someone just stops drinking, but they don't work on anything. [04:51] Amanda sister also struggled with depression, eating, and cutting. She has a lot of addictive tendencies. [05:20] She would hide the food or sneak. [05:35]  Amanda's brother smoked pot and used drugs and alcohol which caused a psychotic break. [06:22] Amanda has no idea why she didn't become an addict, she thinks a lot of it has to do with going to private school and the Christian aspect of things. [09:14] Fear of relapse and addiction creeping in is a problem for Amanda. She is co-dependent without knowing it. There are things she accepts that aren't normal. [10:41] She thought it was normal for her dad to get drunk or drink in the car. These things are toxic and unhealthy. [12:18] Amanda surrounded herself with families that she wanted her family to be like. Like moms that baked cookies. This allowed her to see that her dad's behavior wasn't healthy. [13:36] Addicts are the last ones to know that something is wrong. They don't believe that their behavior is affecting the people around them. [14:29] A lot of stress and unmanaged emotions probably played into Amanda's father's addiction. [15:11] Drinking can creep in and take over your life before you know it. [15:44] She has cut her father out of her life. This is the best boundary that she could set. [16:17] She was seeking love from her father. He would choose alcohol over being present. [17:07] Not all alcoholics hit rock bottom, but this is what it sometimes takes to clean up their life. [17:38] Amanda's fear of relapse comes from seeing the destruction of her family. [18:41] Anyone can become an addict by the simple choices that they make. [19:27] There was something calm about Tom that attracted Amanda to him. She felt safe. [22:13] Amanda still sometimes reads things based on the environment that she grew up in. [23:01] Her dad would raise his voice when he was drunk. Tom hardly ever raises his voice. She has a subconscious fear of Tom yelling which never comes true. [24:43] When Amanda was growing up their dad would hover over them when they cooked. She kind of has cooking PTSD. [25:33] Amanda became a Christian in 2008. She surrounded herself with like-minded people that were able to lift her up. She also went to Al-Anon. [27:00] Being around people who don't judge her has played a part in her life hear it. [27:45] Al-Anon is the most common group for people dealing with the addiction of a loved one. [29:07] When alcoholics and addicts get clean and sober they have a lot to offer. [30:01] Boundaries with people around you are something that you need to learn every single day. Especially, for people to grow up around addicts. [30:54] Learn how to create clear boundaries and have someone hold you accountable to those boundaries. Links and Resources: Al-Anon

If you have a burning desire to do something different, to leave the grind and wake up feeling passionate about your work, we’ve got just the thing. This episode brings together five powerful lady entrepreneurs who will rock your world.   What do these five gorgeous women have in common? They shunned the traditional 9 to 5 in favor of following their own path and creating a business around serving others.   Because let’s face it. You can eat all the kale you want, but if you’re waking up every morning dreading the commute into a depressing office and a job that doesn’t fulfil you, then you can’t be truly healthy. Because total wellness is about eating well AND living your truth. It’s all connected.   Spiritual Boss Babe Leslie Durso From a very young age, Leslie knew her purpose: to guide and inspire people to live healthier, happier lives, and help them find their smile. She’s a vegan chef, influencer, author, and runs beautiful retreats all over the world.   She truly is following her dreams.   Her number one tip: you have to just keep walking through the fire. One step after the other, just keep going and keep taking steps, however small, towards your goals. That journey begins with the inner work.   After all, your business is who you are in the world. What you put out in your day-to-day will eventually show up in your business. So, who do you want to be? What do you want to create for yourself, and for the world?   Of course, money is part of this journey, but it can’t be the ultimate goal. It’s more like the result of the goal (the goal being to do something you are passionate about). If you make money the goal, you’ll just keep chasing it. You need to chase the goal.   What fills your thoughts, fills your life. The things that you think about the most are the things that happen. Worry is a prayer to chaos. If you keep thinking how crap it is to be single, you’re going to be single. If you keep thinking how much you hate your job, you’re just attracting more of the same. So banish those unhelpful thoughts of self-doubt and fear.   Make a moral handbook for yourself: what do you want for your life? Do you want to help people? Do you want a simple life? Do you want to be by the sea? Do you want to open a retreat? Whatever your dream, visualize it and make it happen!   Leslie’s key takeaway: just be passionate about what you’re doing every single day. Make decisions that bring joy into your life and live with a smile.   Spiritual Boss Babe Danielle Mercurio Danielle Mercurio is a high vibe speaker, comedian and life coach. What does it mean to be a spiritual boss babe? Power… but not in a bad way like corporate power or greed. No, we’re talking universal power here. The personal power of knowing that there is a force within you that makes you unstoppable. That power happens when you blend your spirituality with your work. When you trust the Universe, the Universe conspires to make it happen.   Danielle’s tips to become an unstoppable boss babe: Be really clear about what you want to be in business (it will evolve, but you need to get into that space where you know what you want). Get your spiritual tools in place. Kundalini is Danielle’s personal favorite, but you can find one that works for you. Merge your business plan and your spiritual practice. Be open to how the Universe responds - it might have bigger plans for you.     Spiritual Boss Babe Whitney Lauritsen Whitney Lauritsen is one of our favorite spiritual boss babes. She left her 9 to 5 in 2008 to create Eco Vegan Gal and now, Creative Wellth. She’s been coaching other people to be amazing at social media. Her big mission is to help people eliminate suffering - whether the suffering comes from health or money or emotions.   Whitney’s tips to get centered in a positive space: Notice and acknowledge your progress, however small - be grateful for your achievements. Don’t just write your gratitude list, speak it! Surround yourself with beautiful things - crystals, essential oils, plants. Listen to your body and show it some love - supplements, probiotics, organic food…   Here are some of the takeaways from Whitney’s new talk, Radical Social Media Strategies to Increase the Power and Profit of Your Brand: Meditate and tune into yourself (you don’t have to sit cross-legged - you can meditate in the shower or anywhere. Just move the focus of your energy from your head to your heart). The bottom line is mindset: shake off the negative thoughts that hold you back and trust in your worth. Believe in manifestation. It works! Shed those layers - give yourself permission to let go of all those limiting beliefs, ego, fear, self-doubt, so you can step into your power and your purpose.     Spiritual Boss Babe Lynne Taggart Spiritual success and mindset coach Lynne Taggart helps powerhouse women step out of the hustle and into the flow.   These are some of her best practices to tune into your greatness: Create space for spiritual practice (early morning is best). Change your mindset around your spiritual work. Do it because it honors your soul, brings you joy and empowers you - don’t see it as a chore. Intuitive writing - take time to breathe and connect with your inner being. Ask the Universe a question and allow your pen to move across the page. It’s mind-blowing what comes up. Be appreciative for things that you’ve not yet created - this begins the co-creation process with the Universe. When you write in the present, you will make it happen (very quickly!). Tap into the transformational power of the Universe.     Spiritual Boss Babe Amanda Frances Amanda Frances is a spiritual bad-ass boss babe, and fellow spirit junkie. She’s also a self-made multi-millionaire and soulful business guru to spiritual entrepreneurs all over the world. She takes a no-nonsense approach to living a life of purpose.   She was just the girl who wanted to do something cool with her life. She wanted to help people and make money. But the regular ways just didn’t do it for her.   Having tried all other avenues, Amanda decided to do an experiment. She was only going to do what felt good. She believes that if you desire it, that’s the Universe sending you a message. And it’s your responsibility to just do it. By playing small, you’re not helping those who need you the most. So, take a look at your life, see what you’ve learned and how your experiences can help others.   Amanda’s mission is to empower people to design lives that they are wildly obsessed with. She creates online courses that propel women into entrepreneurship - everything from branding to money mindset to course creation and more. We LOVE her branding - seriously, check out her website.   When Amanda found Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass, she felt like here was this woman living her truth and giving Amanda permission to live her own truth. Powerful stuff. And she’s never looked back. If you’re thinking about taking the masterclass, just follow your heart.   Amanda’s tips for stepping into your entrepreneurial, successful self: Become unavailable for “hard” - stop thinking you need to work hard to make it. Change your thinking around money. Go through every single thought you’ve had about money - when your mum didn’t buy you those shoes, what your dad said about making an income, that time the guy didn’t pay for dinner, whatever comes up - and how those thoughts make you feel. And then read through them and think “What if these aren’t true?” Realize that there is another way to see this. Be aware that your internal world will spill out into your external world - that’s why you’ve got to do the inner work. Realize how powerful you are. You have the power to get anything you want. You just have to believe it.   If you’re ready to change your mindset around money and attract abundance into your life, then check out Amanda’s free Boss Lady Meditations. It has to scream you, and it has to scream your niche.” On Instagram, “captions are everything,” and a good post is like a Turkey Sandwich: Your bread is your hook. The first sentence of your caption has to make them excited about reading the rest of your caption. The next piece is the cheese. Why do people want to read this? Add flavor to the story or message behind the caption. “If you can get people to say ‘Me too,’ that’s the best because then they’re going to keep reading.” The turkey is the meat of the post. Maybe a relatable story, or anything else your reader can get invested in. The other slice of bread is your call to action. If you don’t have any CTA in your post, you’re losing out on potential engagement. “Asking questions is probably the best way to get engagement on your post… a question that excites people to answer.” Every CTA can’t be a hard sell for your products. Amanda follows the 5% rule: 5% of the time you can do a hard sell for your product (ideal for product launches) 20% of the time you can ask them to sign up for or download something for free 75% should be free value for your audience, using questions (or your preferred technique) to build engagement   Amanda’s Top 3 Editing Apps: Instagram! Not necessarily the default filters, but you have a lot of options to create your own. Facetune for editing images. PicFrame to create side-by-side images   Being “You” Online Being on camera, or on mic, is hard, even when you do it all the time. You have to be the most energetic, excited version of yourself, without being inauthentic. When you have to record or perform online, but you don’t feel like your highest self, that means it’s time for self-care. This may be meditating, journaling, or talking to somebody – anything that will help you relax and get in the zone. The more you share online, the more your confidence will build and the easier this process will become. And it’s okay to start small and build up a foundational audience, even using a private account (that’s what Amanda did)!   Social Media & Sponsors Social media influencers offer a great opportunity for brands to advertise directly to a very niche audience. But the sponsors that you represent will...

Today I’m talking to Amanda Bucci, fitness expert and online entrepreneur and coach. Amanda started her creative journey when she fell in love with exercise. From there she started building fitness training programs and then transitioned over to entrepreneur coaching. I met Amanda through Lewis Howes and she hired me to photograph her for her brand. We quickly became friends, and I love what she’s up to. It all plays into the space of creative entrepreneurship and how we create a balanced lifestyle that integrates your relationships, business, spirituality, personal development, fitness, and creativity. It has been a result of my ambition, a result of my creativity, a result of putting myself in the right environment. Amanda Jane Daley is a business mentor for wellness professionals, and is based out of Sydney, Australia. During her corporate career, Amanda worked alongside companies like Coca Cola and eBay, but much like all of us, she suffered from burnout, and quit her job. When she started her company, she quickly realized qualifications alone do not make you a good business owner, and she ended up losing her sense of self. On this week’s episode, Amanda talks about her struggles during her entrepreneurial journey, and why it’s so important to balance both your feminine and masculine energy.   Key Insights & Aha Moments: *Who is Amanda? She’s a business mentor for health coaches and wellness entrepreneurs. *When Amanda left her corporate career to pursue her business, she had a very dark time. She lost her identity. *Guest posting and blogging online doesn’t bring in money! It really woke Amanda up. She really had no idea how to run a business. *Business and entrepreneurship is not for everyone and that’s okay. *How did Amanda avoid burnout when starting her business? *One of the things Amanda helps her clients with is burn out! It’s all about flow and balance. *Amanda is grateful she was able to meet some amazing mentors and fellow women entrepreneurs. *Too much hustle is toxic. In fact, Amanda hates the word ‘hustle.’ Being overworked isn’t sexy! *How is Australian's business scene different than that of the U.S.? *Be honest with yourself. Does this feel good for you? For your body? Mind? Spirit? *Business is personal. When you have a more cooperative mindset, more doors open for you than having a competitive mindset. *When Amanda got burned out in the beginning of her business, she was so, so anti-business. *It’s really about bringing both your masculine and feminine energy to the table and keeping it balanced. Neither one is better or worse, they’re both necessary.   Maven Moment: I wanted to just add a few more thoughts about the conversation Amanda and I had, before we wrap up today. As mentioned before, qualifications don’t necessarily make you a business owner. This is a common mistake for many people fresh out of school and wanting to start their own business. When you set expectations for your company, you need to take off your practitioner hat, and put on your CEO hat. You have to think like a business owner!   Mentioned in This Episode: Michellemcglade.com Maven Inner Circle   Connect with Amanda Website

Everyone has experienced culture shock on their travels, but what about reverse culture shock? When Amanda returned back to Australia after six years living in Asia and Europe, reverse culture shock hit her badly, and she's definitely not alone: Episode 51 of The Thoughtful Travel Podcast includes chats with three other travellers who’ve had the same experience.
First up, Amanda chats with Cait Flanders, who suffered from some reverse culture shock after returning to her hometown in Canada after a two-month American road trip. Mike Campbell and his family spent a year housesitting their away around the United States before returning to Australia, and his reverse culture shock is proving life-changing. Amanda's final guest is Matt Treglia and his experience of reverse culture shock is scarily similar to hers. Issues like having nobody who wants to hear about his travels and finding it really hard to fit back into everyday life are common to many of us who’ve spent an extended time abroad. The journey that led to Amanda’s first Gluten Free cookbook, Practical Gluten Free. Which in turn, motivated her husband and Amanda to start our own self publishing company Clockwise Publishing. Amanda was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 14 years ago. At the time, information on gluten free foods were few and far between. In fact, Amanda recall breaking down in tears in the grocery aisle of whole foods when she saw the few selections that were labeled gluten free. They were over-priced, bland, and inconvenient to obtain. Amanda will never forget the first gluten free bread she tried; it was literally like eating a dry hard sponge. Amanda gave it her best shot for a few months and began “cheating” a couple times a week, then three times a week, until Amanda felt sick and fatigued. Amanda would follow the diet again until she felt better and then back to her old tricks. Amanda was never fully informed on how dangerous of a game she was playing until years later when she was part of a celiac study. Amanda have been on a strict gluten free diet for approximately 4 years now and do not miss that foggy fatigue and internal issues. Amanda will say that she is lucky that she already enjoyed cooking and this made the transition easier for her. Luckily, many big brands have joined the gluten free bandwagon due to awareness and demand. This makes it much easier and less work to tweak recipes. When Amanda first began tweaking recipes, she had to literally make all her sauces, spice blends, and soup bases by hand. Amanda always joked that she would soon be churning her own butter. Amanda hope her compilation of recipes from over the years will make it easier for both the seasoned gluten free dieter and the newbies coming to terms with their new reality. These recipes are all easy to follow, do not require major chef skills, and will appeal to the whole family. These recipes have been tried and tested many times with both her own family and at larger gatherings; no one grumbles about the gluten free aspect and many ask Amanda for a copy of her recipe. Most of these recipes are in Amanda’s regular rotation and requested by both her son and husband, who are not required to eat gluten free. These recipes will make it easy to accommodate the gluten free individual in your family without sacrificing the taste and flavor that the rest of the family is accustom to. Amanda Cook is a digital marketing expert and certified holistic health coach. Amanda had been working in a corporate environment for 12 years before deciding that she had enough. She talks to me about struggling to quit her job. Somehow, she kept finding new excuses as to why she couldn't quit, until one day she realized it was just because she was absolutely terrified of the unknown. Fast forward to today, Amanda is so glad she pulled the plug to start her own business, and has been out of the corporate world for the last three years.   Key Insights & Aha Moments: *Amanda started her health journey when she was in the corporate world. *Thank you for celebrating with me last week! *Join us on the Biz Maven Facebook group! *Amanda admits she had no idea what she was doing in the beginning. *It took a couple of years for Amanda to understand the direction she wanted for her blog, Vintage Amanda. *Amanda kept making excuses/new goals as to why she couldn't quit her job *right now*. *When Amanda left her job, she did have a financial cushion, but she found out she burned through it very quickly. She just wasn't making wise financial decisions. *Be prepared for your friends and family to not understand why you're making this sudden shift or leap in your career. *Amanda's co-workers didn't believe she could earn money on her own. *Amanda has been out of the corporate world for the last 3 years. *It sounds woo-hoo, but Amanda got career advice in a dream.  *It shouldn't be hard or a struggle, but keep in mind there's a ton of work involved. *Produce content that's natural to you.  *What has Amanda done that has made her so successful? She built her email list really early. *Your customers just want solutions. They want to know if and how fast you can get them results. *Not everybody is ready to tackle what 'emotional eating' is about. It's not a sexy way to sell your services. Selling a weight-loss program or service is much more marketable and gives them a comfortable gateway to understand what emotional eating and other weight-issues really are. *What kind of challenges has Amanda faced? *Amanda realized this year that one of her services isn't scalable. *Don't be in a scarcity mindset. When Amanda killed her successful, but not-scalable program, it opened her up to more money-making opportunities. *By starting a business, Amanda has become much more clear and confident about what she wants.   Maven Moment: I'm so glad that Amanda pointed this out on the show. When you're starting your own business, it can be tempting to push your credentials down your customers’ throats. But the reality is, they don't particularly care how you're doing the job, most clients just want to know if you can get them results. Of course, it's important to educate your customers, but you can't do that if they don't really understand what it is that you really -do-. For example, it's easier to sell a weight-loss program and then slowly transition your customers into other aspects of your service, than it is to try to sell someone on an emotional eating program. Those words, unfortunately, aren't sexy and not everyone will be ready to tackle that particular problem. Amanda says it’s important to find a balance between language your clients understand vs. what will actually help them.   Mentioned in This Episode: www.michellemcglade.com/ Maven Inner Circle Making The Maven on Facebook   Connect with Amanda: Website Vintage Amanda

Slow travel is a real buzz word these days but many travellers have been using slow travel principles for decades - because travelling slowly is a fantastic way to see the world and really get to know it well. In Episode 13 of The Thoughtful Travel Podcast, Amanda talks to three different travellers who have all embraced slow travel in their own way. First up is Tim Leffel, who prefers smaller towns and villages over big cities because it’s easier to travel slowly in a place where you can get to know the locals. Amanda also speaks to Candace Rardon, who as a freelance artist and writer is able to really practice slow travel, and she does it both on a daily basis by sitting still somewhere for a few hours to sketch, and planning her trips so she stays places for weeks or months. The final guest today is David Soto Jr who is currently in the middle of his own slow trip in a van around the United States. When Amanda spoke to him he was sitting in his van on an airforce base with his dog Rusty looking on; since then he’s been exploring some of America’s most beautiful spots at a very leisurely pace.Links: Tim Leffel - http://timleffel.com Candace Rose Rardon at The Great Affair http://www.candaceroserardon.com Candace’s book: Beneath the Lantern’s Glow - http://bit.ly/LanternsGlow David Soto Jr. at The Primitive You - https://theprimitiveyou.com David (and his dog) on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/theprimitivedave/ Tweet me @amandakendle Hashtag #thoughtfultravelpod Chat on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/NotABallerina Show notes at https://notaballerina.com/13

Show notes from this episode with Amanda Farough: In this episode, Rhiannon talks with Amanda Farough of violetminded Media. Amanda is in the process of re-opening her doors as a new web agency. She is doing something different and revolutionary: bringing together extremely talented and brilliant people in what she calls a digital artisan collective. Rhi asks Amanda to share a little about how she came to this place and what challenges she faced. Amanda was a solo operation at first. She realized, however, that she was burning herself out by doing everything herself. Burn-out does not go well with her desire to be of service to others. So she decided to look at competition in a whole new light. She posted an article years ago called Collaboration Trumps Competition. She believes that if you want to do well and want your people to get the best possible experience, you should work with or hire people who are especially smart. That was the strategy she used when she started violetminded. She gathered all these ridiculously smart people to work with to create the best possible website and best possible experience for her people. Rhi goes through the potentially overwhelming thought process that can go into starting a new business or project and asks Amanda how she dealt with those challenges. Amanda says the trick is feeling comfortable enough to figure out how to be a leader and not just a boss. A boss directs everybody around and puts the responsibility on everybody else’s shoulders. A leader leads the pack and shows the way; it’s a team effort. Trust is essential. It’s a mutual investment. Rhi also points out that Amanda works with people who already have their own businesses. Amanda says that it’s the opposite of the scarcity principle. It’s a more expansive way to do business. It’s a prerequisite for anyone Amanda’s considering adding to her team: they need to have their own things going. When businesses get too big too fast, owners bring in people to help; then they find the business ebbs and flows, and during the ebbs their helpers don’t have anything to do. That flow is just to be expected, like the tide or seasons. Having to be a team member’s sole means of income can create a huge sense of responsibility for the business owner. When Amanda considers her team, she doesn’t see it as people working for her; she works alongside them, with them. She’s the leader, not the boss. When there’s mutual investment among the team, including the client, really great things are created. Rhi says the most fulfilling thing one can do in life is something that is deeply moving and makes money to sustain a lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean that you have to pull out everything you like to do and do those things for everyone else. It loses its “specialness” at that point. Rhi compares it to her love of playing the piano. She loves to play, but only for herself not in front of others. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to keep a little piece of you to yourself. That’s a part of loving yourself, doing something special for yourself. Moving the conversation along, Amanda points out the fear everybody has around design. She thinks it’s because people either have no experience with it or have had a horrible experience with it. She helps people feel comfortable by making sure everyone’s educated about how the process works and removing the mystery. Other designers leave so much to the imagination that it...

Jason is the author of Our Path to Safety: A U.S. Secret Service Agent's Guide to Creating Safe Communities. The book outlines how citizens, school and businesses can identify and assess threat-related behaviors: > What if there was a way to identify a threat to a school, a business or a community before it happened? What attackers who target innocent people have in common is not their psychological conditions nor their social upbringing, but rather their behavioral actions prior to their violence. These behaviors have been studied at length for years, and are now available to the public. The book was inspired by the firsthand experience of a close friend in the Washington Navy Yard shooting, in September, 2013. The attacker, a 34-year-old gunman named Aaron Alexis, entered the facility in the morning and began randomly shooting, with the intent to kill as many innocent people as possible. Jason Wells is also the President and Founder of the National Advancements for Proactive Safety (NAPS), an educational non-profit organization committed to providing a safe community through intervention processes. > 09:33 “The vast, vast majority of people who have any kind of a mental health condition are not violent people” > > > 10:23 There is a mental health stigma > > 12:35 If you're feeling that way (red flag) about another person, chances are other people are too. > > 13:00 People should feel empowered to DO something when something seems off. We're teaching reactive measures (lockdown drills, etc). > > 20:00 We're not looking for the dangers. We're waiting for them to come to us in our schools, workplaces, etc. > > 20:13 People are under the assumption that we cannot identify the threats before they arrive, but that's just not the case. > > 25:25 Key risk is a sudden major negative change in their life (job loss, divorce) > > 26:45 (people say to themselves) “I'm overreacting. And I hope other people do too. And I don't think it would take a lot if we had more people to get involved. And get involved with more proactive intervention.” >
