In this episode, we explore these instinctive behaviors and their impact on emotional regulation, decision-making, and relationships. The four trauma responses most commonly recognized are: Fight – when we believe that if we are able to maintain power over the threat, we will gain control. This can look like physical fights, yelling, physical aggression, throwing things, and property destruction. It can also look like balling your hands into fists, feeling a knot in your stomach, crying, being argumentative, or experiencing a tight jaw.Flight – when we believe that if we are able to escape the threat and avoid conflict, then we will not be harmed. This can look like running away and avoiding interactions with others," notes Moronu. To avoid uncomfortable feelings, you may escape the situation by staying busy or fleeing for the exit whenever things get tough. Freeze – it might look like being at a loss for words, retreating into your mind, having a hard time breaking out and being present, sleeping, dissociating/spacing out, and going emotionally or physically numb.”Fawn – people-pleasing and engaging in pacifying behaviors. It's characterized by prioritizing people above all else by doing whatever they want to diffuse conflict and receive their approval. It seems good to be well liked and defer to others to secure safety, but not when it's at the cost of losing yourself. It can reach a point where you abandon yourself and your needs by merging so thoroughly with others.“Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn: Examining The 4 Trauma Responses” – Julie NguyenTamara SlaytonPeter LevinePersonal Geometry and Family Constellation Work The Big Leap by Gay HendricksSo Barbara Stanny Overcoming Under Earning Mikelann ValterraENCOURAGE US!: Donate $5 THE WIND BENEATH OUR WINGS. No one gets anywhere being shamed. You cannot shame yourself to hit your goals. Lesley Logan 0:08  Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.  Lesley Logan 0:50  Welcome back to the Be It Till You See It interview recap where my co-host in life Brad and I are going to dig into the motivational convo I had with Tamika Robinson in our last episode. If you haven't yet listened that episode, feel free to pause this now. Go back, listen to that one, you're gonna hear Tamika and I giggle a lot, especially if you're listening 2x like Brad does, then it sounds like chipmunks. But it's a lot of fun. It's quite motivational. I loved it, it was really great. And then you can come back and listen to this or you can listen to us now and then decide when to listen to that. Whatever you want to do is totally fine. I just want to like highlight for a moment that this is the first time ever I have not tripped up on the intro of the recap. And we should just take a moment because it's what 200 Episode 290. After 145 times of trying here we are celebrating. Brad Crowell 1:34  I also did not interrupt you. So yeah. Lesley Logan 1:36  You didn't interrupt me and I didn't fuck up. And you gotta celebrate when you do things so your dopamine kick happens. And this is now a habit. Lesley Logan 1:45  Okay, so today is November 16. It's Useless Stuff Day. That's so crazy. I think that my FYF for tomorrow is about how I cleared out my closet. I didn't even know that, so great. So the day was created to spread awareness around the clutter of unnecessary things in our homes, especially during the busiest shopping months of the year. It encourages people to adopt a minimalist lifestyle where only the essentials are bought or kept. Keep that in mind as we talk about Black Friday, Cyber Monday, most everything that we're about to talk about is digital. So not gonna take up any space. But I agree, I do think that like, we probably have a lot of things. So maybe pick a room one of the things that Brad and I do on the New Year, which we're going to do this time around Thanksgiving, because we're never home on the New Year's anymore. So I picked a new holiday. So on Thanksgiving weekend we are we go through room by room, like clean out a closet, clean out a drawer and just like get rid of stuff. You're like i What is this? It's taking up space.Brad Crowell 2:41  And it was a hell of a lot easier when we lived in an apartment. Lesley Logan 2:44  Yes, now we don't. But now we have a whole weekend to do it, Brad, because we have Black Friday through Cyber Monday. Brad Crowell 2:50  That's true. That's true. Lesley Logan 2:52  Also, it's it's even if you just start with one room and just do the one room and you go, Okay, I have not used this in so many years like do you really need it, give it away to someone give it to someone. You can sell things on Facebook marketplace, you can make some money so you can actually get paid. Then what's going on. So next month is December. So we'll be on tour for our winter tour. And we've got tons of cities and lots of opportunity. Bring your friends bring your family, there's classes that anyone can attend. And then there's workshops that I designed them so that whether you're a teacher or a client, you can enjoy them. But there are CECs if you are a teacher. So go to opc.me/tour to see what cities we're going to be in. Look we're driving 7000 miles, you can drive two hours. I'm just saying. Brad Crowell 3:36  100% Lesley Logan 3:36  You can be part of if you are like oh my god Lesley, it's a holiday I have a family. I bet you they (inaudible), but you need a break. Or you can bring them and let me entertain them. So opc.me/tour. You're gonna want to be there. Next week is a holiday. Brad Crowell 3:50  It's a crazy tour. We're going to be hitting something like 20-plus locations on this tour.Lesley Logan 3:59  Yeah. I want to light I want to lighten the van that's like you are in Denver and like, hello Denver what's up? Like, then I was like okay, Lesley, you are now in Austin, okay. I'm in Austin, okay, like I need to, I need a flashing light anyways, but let's get back to today. Next week is the official Black Friday Cyber Monday situation. So I know your inbox is full of people who celebrate all month long. But here at our household, we really like nostalgia. And so the earliest we kick things off is next Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, there are lots of opportunities for you to save on mat flashcards, on Pilates workshops, on business workshops.Brad Crowell 4:45  And my special upcoming live webinar.Lesley Logan 4:48  Yes.Brad Crowell 4:49  We're gonna be doing. We're gonna be selling tickets for that over BFCM as well.Lesley Logan 4:54  We might as well go into what that webinar is. Brad Crowell 4:57  What your website needs. Lesley Logan 4:59  You all, websites are not going anywhere. I don't care how important social media seems to be in your life. And no matter what your be it till you see it is I bet you need a website. Brad Crowell 5:09  I'll be catering it specifically towards Pilates instructors. Lesley Logan 5:12  Yeah. But if you're in a service based businessBrad Crowell 5:14  If you're yoga or anything like that, that's super good, you know, it'll be super applicable for you too. And I'm going to be really digging into things like, let's say you actually have no interest in doing the website yourself. By the end of the webinar, you should be able to have a comprehensive, you know, conversation with your web designer, web developer person, so that, you know, you don't feel like they're talking over your head. Lesley Logan 5:40  Well, and also you want to be able to know like, you don't need them to sell you things you don't need. So when you know what your website needs, you can be really clear, like, this is what I want, how much is this and that way you can really price compare, and you can find if someone's not listening to you be like, oh, like you're gonna have a lot more competence in those conversations. So super huge, you're gonna want to make sure if you're in the service-based industry, you're gonna want to make sure you're watching for our Pprofitable Pilates emails, because the best deal is going to be around the Black Friday, Cyber Monday. So we have discounts on OPC and on Profitable Pilates. So you'll have to go to the website specifically to grab all of those. There's options if you're not an OPC member, but you've always wanted to try it out. There's a deal for that. I mean, we are doing all the things most of them are digital so you can still clean out your house and be clutter free and get these things but you're (inaudible) flashcards just saying. Anyways, okay, so that is all the updates for us. Before we get into the episode with Tamika, do we have an audience question?Brad Crowell 6:36  Hey, we sure do. What a coincidence. This week.Lesley Logan 6:42  I just got this question today on Instagram.Brad Crowell 6:44  What microphones do you use to record your Pilates workouts? Lesley Logan 6:47  Yes, so okay, um, in all honesty, I don't know. But Brad probably does. What we do Brad Crowell 6:54  We use whatever Nate tells us to use.Lesley Logan 6:57  Yes, so Nate is the most incredible, most amazing salesperson at Sweetwater sound, and you guys. Sweetwater is like one of the coolest companies because they're like, they're kicking ass when it comes to selling microphones in all the spaces they're just like they sell more than microphones. Brad Crowell 7:14  It's basically that like in the 90s and early 2000s They were competing with Guitar Center which was brick and mortar and they were a mail order catalog only. And then they went online and then now they actually give Amazon a run for their money for music distribution or for music gear distribution.Lesley Logan 7:33  And they have warehouses now in different places, which is a huge new thing for them (inaudible) yeah, and so they can get you stuff so quickly. So Nate is our guy and so here's how you can find out all the information on anything that we use to record for our YouTube videos and our on demand workouts you go to profitablepilates.com/livestream Brad made a fancy guide and has literally all the things you need to level up your live stream you it's free it's free guide just go to profitablepilates.com/livestream.Brad Crowell 8:06  Yeah and if the if the gear, gear changes over time so you know there's there's direct connection to Nate right in the on that guide.Lesley Logan 8:15  Tell him what you're doing and he'll tell you what you should get. Brad Crowell 8:17  Just reach out to him just email him and tell him that you came from us. Tell him what you're looking for. And we'll help you out.Lesley Logan 8:24  He did our podcast mics, he does he helps us with our Pilates mics.Brad Crowell 8:26  Even this lighting.Lesley Logan 8:27  Oh yeah. And speaking of Pilates mics we have to get a new cord because we're at a year and yeah, these cords just so you know, everyone they're not made for filming Pilates. They're made for maybe filming a spin class.Brad Crowell 8:40  They're not made for rolling around on the microphone cord. No.Lesley Logan 8:43  Correct. And so basically like my cord lasts a year. That's all, that's pretty much all it is. And it's annoying and it's frustrating and yes, it's but it costs money. Guess what? It costs money to make money. I don't, I'm not going to sugarcoat it for you, it costs money.Brad Crowell 9:02  The cord's not that bad.Lesley Logan 9:04  It's like 100 bucks. Brad Crowell 9:04  No, the cord, it's like seven.Lesley Logan 9:06  Oh, okay, well spent. But yeah, but like when you invest the first time for the microphone, it's like 100 bucks.Brad Crowell 9:10   Yeah. The microphone is more expensive. Yes. Yeah, the cord is fine. Lesley Logan 9:14  Anyway, so profitablepilates.com/livestream, you guys send your questions in, we answer questions ranging all host of things. So send them on to the Be It pod we can answer your questions on the next episode.Brad Crowell 9:26  Okay, now let's talk about Tamika Robinson, founder of Jar Fit. Tamika shares her journey as a personal trainer, focusing on 80 women to achieve their body goals. She's committed to empowering her clients celebrating their small wins and fostering self-belief through each step of their fitness journey. And I don't know if you've gone to her website to see pictures of her competition body. But she's amazingly impressive. When it comes to, she competes. And I think she's won titles and stuff. So it's amazing to see. You know, so you can do that. Her husband, I believe also competes because he's massive. Lesley Logan 10:13  I know. But you know, like that, that means that parts of the year they only have rice and salmon. And like, that's a whole world of life. We didn't really dive into competitions, just because I wanted to be, yeah, no, yeah. Because I want it to be like what you can be till you see it. And I really like. So we had on James Patrick a while back and he hosts an amazing event every year about getting like booked for gigs. Hello, August. And getting booked for gigs. And we are one of the media outlets that they can get booked on. And he has been on the show. So he knows what we're looking for. And out of the like 500 people he's like, here are the best people I think you'd like. So take a look at all 500. But I think you would love these. And I did look through about 100. But I looked at the five that he sent me. And Tamika, I just like I really so which what came through on her stuff is very much this. Like she said, if you get better 1% every day, that the end of the year, that's 365%. Now I'm sure there's a mathematician who is actually going to say, well, actually, if you start off at 100%, it does compound, so it's even more amazing. It's even more amazing. And I loved it because it made me think of Allen Stein Jr. But how he's always like, did I get 1% closer to my goal today? And so I think like, especially because the women who listen to this podcast, hi, I see, you might type a perfectionist, we tend to think it's all or nothing if I didn't improve 100% I did nothing today. And it's like, actually, what if you do just one thing, one thing today that got you closer to your goal, at the end of the year, it's 365 things, you probably are going to surpass that goal. You know. And so when we make it up so hard, so she, she does this a little bit more specifically, we got into like, how she does with her weight training and like helping people. But I want to like more importantly, I want to talk about how she like, uses positive reinforcement to motivate her clients, you guys positive reinforcement is actually how habits are created. No one gets anywhere being shamed. You cannot shame yourself to hit your goals, period. And I'm sorry, you might be able to shame yourself to get out of the fucking bed a couple times a week or maybe get to the wherever the place but like you cannot shame yourself to achieving anything because it doesn't work is the same thing as like motivation. Like if you're waiting to be motivated, like that's going to come on you I was motivated at 4am this morning. That is not a consistent thing. It's just because we got home and we're still working on getting up at 5am. But I was like motivated and ready to go. That's you know, you can't just wait on motivation. It's going to come up with the worst times, right. And she also talked about like, how she really encourages her clients to journal and on their experiences and reflections. And I think this is really great. We listen to a guy on his podcast and he writes everything down. He must write his everyday down. Because he remember his his stories he's like on this day, 23 years ago, yeah, this thing happened to me. And I'm like, What the fuck? Is he reading his journal? Like, how does he know what happened on this day to himself in 47 years? Like, what is happening?Brad Crowell 13:27  Well, yeah, obviously he has it all catalogued too, so he could flip through? Yeah. And like immediately reference like, this day, on all these years previous. I mean, Lesley Logan 13:38  What if we just did that for that recaps instead of like, it's this day in the world right now. Like, okay, on this day, 27 years ago, in my life, I went on my first date. No, but like, if you can take whether you want to journal in the morning, or in the evening, find a time to like, talk, like write down your experiences from the day write down three things that happened to you, and then reflect on like, how did you like that? What was your favorite part about that? Because those kinds of things help you really understand yourself. I with Brad and I were in a coaching session today with our coach. And I was like, Oh, I journaled today. And I became extremely aware of like, how I've been holding myself back this year. And it's not like in a negative way. It's like, oh, aha moment. Whoa, like, these things are really important. So I love that she does that and then she really encourages them to acknowledge their own progress. So they can feel good about their achievements. So just I think more coaches like her affecting more women out in the world she does it through weight training, but like my goodness, you guys don't You don't have to wait train with her to get this you can actually like take these things and like apply them to your life the way you do them.Brad Crowell 14:42  Yeah, totally. And, you know, when when? Well, she said a bunch of things that I also dug. One I thought it was really fun that she mentioned. She and her partner both share similar personal goals and so that's why they started working together. And that was fun. Because that's how life is for us. And it made me think about that. But I really loved when she was talking about, like her transition into becoming a coach. Becoming a trainer actually. And so she said, if you're planning on starting your side, hustle or leaving your full-time job, you must know what it is that you need to make, so that you can enjoy Lesley Logan 15:31  I knew you'd love this. Brad Crowell 15:32  Yeah. So you can like enjoy being, you know, in your new role. And because she, it was really interesting to listen to her talk about like, the idea of being a trainer. And that being her profession, right, because she comes from like, she went and got a Criminal Justice background degree, like master's degree. She was like, trying to work for the FBI, like three times she applied and wasn't getting the FBI. Lesley Logan 16:02  I mean, their fucking loss, because she's amazing. And also, like, she's so sweet. I feel like the FBI would like just like...Brad Crowell 16:08  Yeah. Let's she, you know, so she had this preconceived notion of like, who am I? What am I supposed to do with my life, and then she just enjoyed the training and then started, you know, she got certified and then started training people. And but I still think even she mentioned that even after she started taking clients, she still wasn't like, convinced herself that this is her job, her profession, right. And it took a long time for her to settle in and actually did really lean into it. And, you know, so I think, when she was first starting out, she was a little unsettled, like, I'm not, you know, making my insurance or I'm not making my, my, you know, the money that I think I should be making or whatever. And so she then reflects on that and teaches her clients like, hey, you know, know what you need to make before you quit. And she said, also, what I thought was really nice is that it was messy. It was a messy process, I thought that was really cool that she was so transparent. You know, it didn't happen overnight, she didn't like immediately start making her goal income right away all the things. In fact, she, she started writing herself a check for 10 grand, every single month, even if she wasn't able to cash that check, she began to visualize this concept of like, this is the amount of money that I know that I want to make. I'm gonna write myself this check until I can cash (inaudible).Lesley Logan 17:38  I'm obsessed with this and so many reasons. reasons. One of the reasons is a too often people who work for themselves don't pay themselves an actual paycheck, they just like take from the bank account. Like, they don't actually get the same paycheck every month. Right? And the other reason I love it is like she's practicing writing down $10,000 paid to, to make it like the reality. Brad Crowell 18:00  I think she started talking about like, Monopoly money, though, because she was like, I don't have a checkbook.Lesley Logan 18:04  Yeah. But also okay. But also like seeing that, or this is something I talked to, like people who like, that's too much money to charge. It's like, say it out loud all the time. So it doesn't sound foreign. It's like, you the those these things can be come a little esoteric, or, or I guess it's the best word for this. Yeah. If you if you only think about them in your head, but if you actually, like, write the check, like we've had, or like, when we got this houseBrad Crowell 18:31  It doesn't feel real like it's you know, it's like, telling yourself, good job, but you don't, you know, doesn't really benefit you.Lesley Logan 18:40  I think like, the best you could do is like write yourself the check. Even if you don't cash it or, you know, grab Monopoly money,Brad Crowell 18:46  You got to associate it with an action, llike doing celebration is more than, you know, you inside your head saying I did it. You have to talk it out loud. You have to like, actually do something.Lesley Logan 18:58  And say, say these prices andthese goals out loud, because $10,000 might seem like a lot. If you're like me, you came from no money. Oh my god. Like, that's a lot of money. But if you start to say it out loud, and you talk about these numbers with your friends and things, I think it's so important for men to talk about how much money they make. And not in a boastful way. This is not like an arrogant way. This is a we have to start seeing these numbers as normal. It is normal to make $10,000 a month. It should be normal. And I know that like if you're like, oh my god Lesley, I barely make $2,000 a month. I'm like, so poor. Yeah, but talk like talk these numbers out so that 10,000 doesn't seem so far away. It seems one, you earned it, you deserve it. You deserve more than that. You're worthy of that and two, when you say your prices, it's not about your budget, right? It's about what you're worth of the effects that you make, that your talent has on these people's lives.Brad Crowell 19:52  The impact that you're having. Lesley Logan 19:54  You're not charging for the 55 minutes you're charging for the impact it's having. And so Danny J, whe should have Danny J and Joel on the pod. We should just do that. Okay. If you're listening, ladies, just text them out for this. But Danny J had us, like, take what we charge and double it and go around and say how much does it cost to work with you? And I'm like, okay, so I took the OPC most expensive membership. And I said, okay, it costs $1,400 a year to take. And I said, How many classes that that membership included was like six times 12 is 64, 66, 64?Brad Crowell 20:31  I wasn't actually paying attention. Lesley Logan 20:33  So how much is 12 times six?Brad Crowell 20:35  You get 104 classes? The most expensive? Okay, so 152.Lesley Logan 20:39  152. So 152 for $1,500 It's only 150 We don't try to generalize guys, but the point was to take what you charge and double it. And so if you think holy, that's fucking $10 cost well guess what, my rates are actually half that. So it's five dollars a class to work with me for a whole year. That's so cheap, right? But we think about oh my god $700. Like we think about the bigger number, right? Breaking it down. So Danny J had us like, take the money, double it. And then walk around saying that so that when you say your actual price, it sounds so inexpensive.Brad Crowell 21:16  Well, in that same vein, I she recommended a book. Lesley Logan 21:20  I can't wait to read this. Brad Crowell 21:21  Overcoming, called Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny. And, you know, it was interesting to listen to her talk about that. I think that would have been really beneficial for me. When I was first getting started, you know, too because I was like, Oh man, if I can only make $100 today, you know, or if I can only make $30,000 a year if I can only make $50,000 a year. And you know, I think it's really important that we, like you said talk about the money side of it. But also it is expensive to live in a city. Period. So doesn't matter which city you're in. It's expensive to live in a city. And you know, to make 50 grand in a city. You're barely paying your bills. You know, 50 grand seems like so much fucking money for me.Lesley Logan 22:18  Yeah. Because I mean, I knew what my parents made, like my mom. I'm gonna say this because you want to know how schoolteachers make. My mom taught private school and in the 2000s. And I guess they call it the arts. I don't really understand what that comes from. In the 2000s. She made $22,000 a year as a full-time fifth grade school teacher. What the fuck? That is McDonald's employees back then made more money in a year full time. Okay, so she's the college-educated person who was making that. My father was making a little over 40 something at some point when I heard his salary. Me getting paid $50,000 I was like, I'm slaying right, I'm killing it. No, I could barely pay my bills, like where I live? Because I live in a city like you did. And so it's like, but because my mindset that seemed like, that's so much money, it was I did not have a mindset that was likeBrad Crowell 23:14  Oh, my gosh, I was like, if I can make 75 I'm going to be rich.Lesley Logan 23:17  Yeah. If you move to I don't know, I don't even know where you can live for 75,000 anymore. Maybe Alabama? I don't know. Brad Crowell 23:25  But, but I think but so this book, it was interesting to hear her talk about it. And so, you know, we're, we're, we're gonna check it out, too. We haven't actually checked it out, but Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny. Yeah. So, you know, she, she also talked about when, you know, identifying her current situation and desired goals, she created a plan, saying I'm going to calculate all my clients figure out what I'm paying rent what I need, and then I'm going to figure out the plan. So for those of you who have worked with us in Agency, that probably sounds really familiar. We obviously talked about the magic number calculator, and it really helps create that clarity for what you need to set for your rates to help you work backwards, just like she was talking about here. So that you can make the money that you need to make to include time off, sick days off, you know, all those kinds of things. And I just thought it was really aligned with what we are all about. So yeah, great stuff.Lesley Logan 24:28  Yeah, I'm in love. Tamika, we love you.Brad Crowell 24:32  All right, so finally let's talk about those Be It Action Items. What bold, executable, intrinsic, targeted action items can we take away from your convo with Tamika Robinson? She said if you are stressed cry, it's okay, you're allowed. You're allowed to do it. She said feel your feelings crying is perfectly acceptable. So you know this is interesting. I was never really taught this.Lesley Logan 25:00  I cry all the time. Yeah, but I had to remind myself it's okay.Brad Crowell 25:08  All right. Okay, I'm still talking over here. So my so what I was never really taught this and my, my feeling my feelings. I would wait, wait, wait until it became anger. And then I would feel my feelings in an explosive way. And that never benefited me. Anyone else around me none of that stuff. So I thought it was really helpful to just hear that. You know, you're you're supposed to feel your feelings that's being human. And if that, you know, turns into tears, that's okay. It's allowed.Lesley Logan 25:46  Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm really glad that you heard it now. And I thinkBrad Crowell 25:52  Would have been really helpful. 20 years ago.Lesley Logan 25:54  I well. Isn't that the, I think...Brad Crowell 25:56  Even 10. Lesley Logan 25:57  Well, can I just be honest, girls are told not to cry. And especially Brad Crowell 26:01  So are boys. Lesley Logan 26:02  Well, girls can, but not at work. Don't let anyone see you cry at work. And it's like, okay, but your passion is actually super. Like, if you if you're crying all the time, like maybe go take your hormones, but like, if you are so passionate, something you're so fresh, it makes you cry, because like the like, it's okay to like have those feelings, because if you shove them down, there is a really great book. I want to say it's called Burnout. It's like two sisters. I don't know that Burnout. I heard them on Brene Brown's podcast, but they said like that it's so important. To letLesley Logan 26:03  It is Burnout. Yeah, Emily and Amelia Nagosaki. Lesley Logan 26:08  Yes. So they said like, sometimes in the moment, it's not appropriate to feel you're feeling Brad Crowell 26:19  No. Nagoski.Lesley Logan 26:43  Yeah. It's not it's not. It's not always appropriate. So like, for example, you may be walking on the street and somebody like, calls out like, I'll just say, I'll, I'll do an actual example in my life. I was run in LA I used to run and this guy who was dressed like a gnome, I swear to God. Brad Crowell 27:08  A gnome? Lesley Logan 27:09  Yes. You heard me say it. He (inaudible) hobbit. He had a foil, little cap on Brad Crowell 27:14  I was thinking about the Seven Dwarfs. Lesley Logan 27:16  Oh, he, maybe but like really sort of The Hobbit like kind of like the like the bigger guy with a braid on his beard? I'll be running with my own, and he'd go you're a whore. Brad Crowell 27:27  What? Lesley Logan 27:28  Right? Because He's cray. He has he has mental problems. Okay, so he has more problems than I have. It doesn't feel good to feel be called that, right? So when I was out of arm's reach of him, I would laugh out loud because like, if I were just to like, shove that down, and every Sunday, this man would call me a whore. It is actually not Oh, you don't want to be called that doesn't feel good to be called that there was another guy that Eric used to hear. He would like, he was this other crazy dude on Wilshire, and he would call it something. And I just started going, you know, may the Lord open, blessed be like, oh, but I would like to make a joke about it. Because I had to let out I had to have a reaction to let that out. And their whole point is like, maybe in the moment, you can't let it out. Like, in my case, I was in an area where I could like, let like joke about it or laugh it out. But if you do have to, like hold it together, because maybe someone says something in a meeting and you can't say anything in the meeting, you can't cry in the meeting, then you need to actually get home, get to a pillow, scream in the pillow, like let it out. Because if you don't, if you don't feel your feelings, they bottle up and they actually do cost stress on the body. And they can keep you from becoming the person you're meant to be in this world. So I love that Be It Action. Mine is she said to write down 100 things on your to-do list. And I swear to God when she said that I was like maybe we are editing this Be It Action Item. Because this is not aligned with my values. But then she said, then after the fifth thing, cross everything out.Brad Crowell 28:59  She said, Yeah, she said take the top five and cross out 95 of them. Lesley Logan 29:06  Yes, yeah, yes. And I love this actually just kind of a book club meeting with Agency members called do the book was like, Do the One Thing or The One Thing or whatever. And I love this because it's so true. We put all these things on our list. But really the first five things are the most pressing things so they're top of mind the other 95 you're just like, look at me, I'm so busy. Look at me, like all these important things to do. So I thought that is so fun, because then you can get all that shit off your head, anyway. Brad Crowell 29:33  It's brain dump total, brain dump.Lesley Logan 29:34  Such a great brain dump and then you know what your top five priorities are boom, way to go. It helps to underscore the importance of having clear tangible steps and a pathway to achieving your personal goals. So way to go Tamika, you're so fun. I'm so glad that James introduced us. I'm glad you put yourself out there so that you could be on this podcast and I'm excited for what you're doing.Brad Crowell 29:54  Yeah, it was great.Lesley Logan 29:55  It was great. We love it. So I had to unwire my brain and be like personal training is a career. It's not like, it's not a hobby, you get paid to do it. It's not like you can make this a full-time thing. But it was very hard for me to see that and on wiring my brain and dealing with that I was like, Oh, I had this person's voice in my head telling me it's not good enough because you have degrees you need to go get a salary, position or career, whatever that is. So that was really hard for me to deal with for a while.Lesley Logan 0:46  Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. Lesley Logan 1:28  Hey, loves. Today, I have a really fabulous fun guest. First of all, she makes me smile from ear to ear, I just met her. So that's really amazing. I think you're gonna really enjoy hearing her share her true journey of like getting to where she is. I also love the nonlinear road her life has taken because we cannot hear enough how many people have gone to a road less traveled, have gone a road that's very traveled, but not the, they didn't have the same starting point as other people. And her honesty and vulnerability is just really amazing. And I hope it inspires you. And I hope it I also believe that like wherever you are in your journey, you can see yourself in her story. I am so inspired by how she truly figured out a way to pay herself while doing a new job while working a nine-to-five and she how she came up with that she shares a great book that I think is really fun. So we take a lot of different chapters in this conversation that just one, I hope you feel like you're part of it. And like your (inaudible) in your car, on your run that you're like joining on this conversation to help you see yourself in it. You know, we all are on a journey. There's no perfect way. And it's all about turning ourselves on and celebrating those wins along the way. So she does that with her clients. She was with herself. And I really enjoyed her Be It Action Items because I think, I think that you're going to be surprised and also I think you can actually do them in the next week for sure. Especially well, maybe number one is going to depend on where you are in your life. But number two you could do today. So without further ado, here is Tamika Robinson. Lesley Logan 3:06  All right, Be It Babe. I'm really excited. I love when I love when people I get to meet new people in general anyways, but especially when they come from people that I love on this planet. Y'all remember James Patrick, he was on that podcast, many moons ago. And he just gave us so many amazing tips on how to set our goals. And he introduced me to this amazing woman we're talking to today, Tamika Robinson. And so I'm just so grateful to have this shining light in your ears. And if you're watching on YouTube, today Tamika, can you tell everyone who you are and what you rock at?Tamika Robinson 3:37  Yeah, um, well, first of all, thank you for having me Lesley. I'm so appreciative. I'm so glad to be here. But I am Tamika Robinson, I am an entrepreneur. Basically my business is Jar Fit. I'm a personal trainer, and I help busy badass women achieve their dream body hit their goals and have everything they want.Lesley Logan 4:02  So, okay, I love this. I love like, you're so passionate in what you do. How did you get started though? Because I think you know, like what a dream job that is. But like, it's not like you wake up one day and snap your fingers and it happens. So like how did we get here?Tamika Robinson 4:17  Oh my gosh, um, I love this question. Actually. It's a funny story. I had never planned on being an entrepreneur like ever. My whole goal was like, go to school, get a master's degree, get a nine-to-five, call it a day. Obviously that is not how it went.Lesley Logan 4:42  Well I did that. I didn't go to the master's degree, but I did the thing and I got the nine-to-five and like I was like, this is really unsatisfying.Tamika Robinson 4:51  I didn't even get into my nine-to-five so I can't even say like if it was gonna be good or not.Tamika Robinson 5:00  So I went to school, got a degree in behavioral sciences. Then I continued on and got my master's in criminology, and I applied for the FBI three times.Lesley Logan 5:14  What? That's crazy.Tamika Robinson 5:17  It's nuts. And now later in life, I feel I figured out that it is not what you know, it's who you know, and I had no connects. So, obviously, I did not get the job. And I pivoted ultimately, I knew that one of my like life goals was I was going to be a coach of some kind. Whether that was gymnastics, sport that I did, track, another sport that I did, or cheerleading. And it just so happened that I have a super cool opportunity upon leaving college to go run for the trial, the time trials in the Olympics. I got hurt. Yeah. Lesley Logan 6:03  Oh, my God. Yeah. Are you kidding me? You could, like, I mean, you got hurt, but like, even the opportunity to try out for the Olympic team, like, that's such a small percentage of people who ever even because it's like, your timing of your strength had to be at the exact same time as like, when they're actually doing the trials, which only happens every four years. Are you kidding?Tamika Robinson 6:26  No. So cool. Um, I would have had dual citizenship. And you lightly I'm Puerto Rican. So I was gonna run for the Puerto Rican team.Lesley Logan 6:39  Even better.Tamika Robinson 6:42  Go (inaudible) in Puerto Rico. Lesley Logan 6:44  Yeah, you represent (inaudible).Tamika Robinson 6:49  But obviously, I got hurt. And I took a year off to try to recover. And I ended up hiring a trainer and she was awesome for the time being. And we were getting back in kind of my groove. And she was like, oh, I think you should do this show. And I was like, What's a show? I ended up doing a bodybuilding show because Oh, my God, all the sparkles.Lesley Logan 7:14  All the sparkles. And also, like, I have so many friends who've done those. And I had a trainer who also was like, You should do this. And I was like, I can't do that. Like you know, I actually really none of that food looks good. I want sauce on my chicken. I want butterLesley Logan 7:37  I love milk in my coffee. There's just too many things.Tamika Robinson 7:42  Skim milk. It's fine.Lesley Logan 7:47  So you did a show, you the sparkles, do the high heels? Did you have to do the PAM?Tamika Robinson 7:52  Oh no. They have people who already who had glaze ready. But I have heard of that trick. And I love it because it smells like butter.Lesley Logan 8:04  That sounds like torture to every person there. Tamika Robinson 8:07  Oh boy, like, I smell popcorn. Yeah, so I ended up doing the show. Had a blast. And then ultimately, I met my husband and he's like, I think you should like, I think we should do this. And I was like, Oh, okay. very hesitant. I was like, I've never trained anybody. Like, I don't know.Lesley Logan 8:30  Was he a trainer? Like, did he? Tamika Robinson 8:32  He was a trainer. Lesley Logan 8:33  So that's why you guys could like do this together.Tamika Robinson 8:35  Yes. Yep. So my husband was a trainer or what? He became my coach first. And then he was like, Oh, you've got what it takes. Let's, let's do this together. And I was like, oh, okay, so we brought me on. As his partner, I ended up getting my certification through the renown, National Council of Strength and Fitness. And I got my first client and it was a blast. And then I was like, Ah, I think that I can do this. There was a lot of like moments in between I was like, I can't do this. But I think that I can.Lesley Logan 9:09  Thank you for sharing that. I think that's so important. First of all want to highlight like how nonlinear any of that was, like you I don't even actually know how you did gymnastics and track and all the things so I became a behavior science person and then doing criminology like it sounds like lots of reading and then somehow like it may be running at three in the morning unclear like so I also love that along the way you allowed people to inspire you to try out something that you probably that wasn't like on the plan. Like it wasn't on the plan. And maybe because like the entire plan blew up and like wasn't happening. So you're like, Okay, I'll try this anything but like, I think that's really cool that you could listen to other people around you and try those things on. So how long how long ago did you start training people on like, what have you been able to use your like behavior science degree in that way to like help people stick to their goals are like, is it all been? Like, they were like that was my life, then I came up with some new stuff because that didn't work out.Tamika Robinson 10:08  So it was it was very messy.Lesley Logan 10:12  Great. We love that. Thank you for sharing. Everybody here needs to hear how messy it is. Yes.Tamika Robinson 10:18  It's very messy. It was very stressful. I did, I haven't. I haven't gotten to use all of the things that I've learned. I wish. Luckily, none of my clients are like killers or anything. So I'm, I think I'm good. It's probably a good thing that I dealt with. But yeah, I've gotten to use some of my Behavioral Science degree in how I help women shape like, like, their goals and how they see themselves ultimately, because most of my women clients are. I mean, they're just amazing in general, I feel, but they don't see themselves the way that I see them. So it's done a lot of like, reframing how they see themselves and then building up their bodies. And, I mean, obviously, like that is a key in itself, because they see themselves changing and see themselves growing and getting stronger. And, I mean, that just builds confidence. And then they can start to see and accept all the things that I have to say about them without being like, oh my god, no.Lesley Logan 11:34  Yeah, I love that you share that. I think it's really fascinating. I have a friend who will have her on the pod soon. She is a stylist and she is like, you know, she works with a lot of women of all sizes. And specifically she got into styling, with women with with larger bodies. And she says, she says it's what's amazing is when you actually feel like you look good. The changes you make in your life are very different, like so when you reframe how you talk about yourself, how you face yourself, it actually does change how you show up for your workouts, how you show up in your life. And these, these changes can be made much faster, because you feel good about yourself, and you're not talking negatively and judging yourself. And then like, you know, basically making it harder on yourself to feel the way you want to feel. Tamika Robinson 12:20  It's so true. Yeah, it's not a constant battle, in your mind anymore. It's not like, oh my god, I can't do this. I can't do this. It's it's more like, oh, hey, but you can you've done this already. And so it's no longer shifted so negatively. It's more like, Okay, well, maybe I can try. I've done this, I can do that. So I think it's just incredible to see that change. I would die to see the stylist and like how those women oh my god, I can only imagine how they feel. That's a (inaudible).Lesley Logan 12:58  I know. We'll have to connect you. I'll connect you guys because I think it's it's, it's so I went over in here's her story level here how she got there. But like, it's actually really incredible. Growing up, because I had family members who are larger bodies, and the way they would dress is like, like, just hide everything and just put everything you know, and like don't show up or anything. And she's like, actually, if you highlight this, then you you know, like it actually looks really good. And like you've beautiful figure and it would be the frame. And then because they feel good, and they show up smiling and they like have this confidence, it changes how they show up in every other way. And I know like working with, with women, mostly myself as a Pilates instructor. Some of the things women say, but I can't do that. And then like they'll talk about how they are in their day. And I'm like, you know, I just want you to know, you said you can't do a lot of things about seven times the last 15 minutes. I'm just going to point out that we've been doing all these things in here. You've been doing all these things. You're killing it. You're very capable.Tamika Robinson 13:54  You're doing it right now.Lesley Logan 13:55  Yes. Oh, yes. Okay, so I have this girl. She, she's in one of my mentorship groups. And she's like, Oh, I can't lift my legs up from the ground because it bothers my back. And I'm like, Okay, no problem. Like, that's fine. You know, there's other ways you can strengthen that. And then so we like every exercise. We're like modifying how low her legs go everything. Then I just tell her okay, do your teaser and she gets into the teaser on the reformer and people who are Pilates instructors know teaser and the reformer, you actually start in a backbend you actually start like legs are lower than parallel to the floor. And then you lift them up and she did it and I was like, so just to point out that you just did it. You just lifted your did it bother your back? No. Okay, so we can do it. We just have a block against doing it here. So what are some things that you tell women to do to kind of like understand, like, how are you showing them that they can do certain things? What's your kind of way of doing that?Tamika Robinson 14:57  You can do it.Lesley Logan 14:58  Oh, well, you are so sweet and adorable. I think a lot of people would just do what you say. Tamika Robinson 15:03  But literally is that so I have this one client, I love her. She tells me about her mom all the time and her like, her mom is older and complains about like her back and her knees or hips. And she's like, I don't want to be like my mom. I'll say. So Marina, we will. So one day we were deadlifting. And I put on so I put on some weight. I was like, oh, because we had been doing weight, like little weights for a bit. And I was like, you can you can handle this. And she looked at it and was like, I don't know, I don't think so I was like, Okay, let's just try five. If we can do five, I'll let you we'll be done, we'll be done. She ended up doing 10 for three whole other sets. I'm like, Well, you did 30. He's like, Oh my God, it felt so good. Like, it was a little heavy, a little challenging as a camper when you did it. I was like, I know that you could do this. Because ultimately, a I'm not a math person. So thank God, I only have to count to like 20. But I was I broke down the math as like, in the previous exercises we've been doing, we've looked at we've done this way for this many reps and multiply that and I was like, that's the volume that you're lifting. I was like we're doing half of that right now. And you're doing it. And it's like less weight. Well, it was less volume, but it was a little higher in way. You did it. And she was like, Oh my god. So now she's like, oh, let's add, like, we're going up in increments and things she's like, let's have like a look like five more pounds. Can we do that? And like, Yeah, let's go get the two now. So it's like, progress is progress, no matter what. One percent is one percent every day and at the end of the year it's 365%. That's better than this many percents.Lesley Logan 16:54  Oh my god. Oh my god. So I fucking love that. I think first of all, it's so important that when the when we are if we are a cheerleader for anyone in our life that we actually show up when we that cheerleader and like stop them when they think they can't do something because we know that they've done it before. I think it's so easy for some of us to go, okay, they don't want to do it. So I'm pushing them. And it's not it's not about pushing in a negative way. It's about pushing them up in a positive way like you like you can do this. And, you know, I know, like, there's a there's a woman that we work out with. And you know, she has never lifted heavy weights before. And she couldn't come to one of the regular, like, hit classes that we do. So she came to the barbell training. And I was so excited to see like, usually it was like my dad, my husband and I and I'm like, and, and I like I didn't want to be the only other girl and like my trainer is always like, okay, you can do this. And I'm I've never had strong arms like I've just never say like, oh, I'm pushing the fucking bar. And I'm like, This is the hardest thing I've ever done, right? She comes in. And she deadlifts for her first time in her life with his barbell. And it's like she's picking up like, a bag of groceries. It was like so easy for her. And she was like, so we put on more weight and we throw it and I'm watching this and because I got to watch her do it, first of all, she'd never done it. So she's just like, blowing her own mind. But I was like, Oh, my God look it was so possible. And I think like so often we of course we don't want to hurt anybody. But we also need to understand that like if you're actually preparing yourself for this, whether it's if you're like ladies, I don't even weight-lift, What are y'all talking about? Whether it's weightlifting, or learning a new language or learning how to do your finances, you have got to celebrate what you have done. And you have to like journal about it, like, write it down, like take notes, because then you have evidence that you've done shit. And like you can do this other thing over here. If you walk your dog for an hour every day, you can do a half-hour hike with someone.Lesley Logan 17:04  Exactly, I absolutely love that. I think it's just being positive and doing it in a way that doesn't feel so overwhelmingly scary, like enjoying the process because she had been like, she's been working out. Someone else has been working out like you've been doing it now. It's just trying to like, push yourself a little bit more. And it's just positive reinforcement. And I love that and it works for me because I'm an ex cheerleader. So I'm like, Yeah, let's go. You got this. So, to hype you up.Lesley Logan 19:26  Yeah, I mean, like, so what are some other things people can do for like, positive reinforcement, like is always just words, are there other things people can do for positive reinforcement?Tamika Robinson 19:34  Um, so I think it's, I think you can do a lot of things I love. I love words. My love language is words of affirmation.Lesley Logan 19:47  Tell me I'm pretty and like, Give me a hug and I'm like, the best day of my life.Tamika Robinson 19:50  I feel great. But yeah, small action. So like, like, I recorded her deadlifting and I sent him Senator husband, he was like, oh my god, I'm so excited. So that was also what like, yeah, it's small, like actions that literally like you can do five seconds. Like, you know if it is a recording if it is, and I love what you said journaling, that's my favorite thing. Journaling about it and how you felt about it. A quick video to tell yourself like, No, you crushed this, I did it and like, I feel great, like flex and layer. Well, I mean, you know, whatever you need to do in the video just to like remind yourself that you did it. That's what I think.Lesley Logan 20:39  I love that you filmed them. I think like there's evidence of some kind that you did something that's so important. Because are we it's so easy to forget the good things that we've done. It's so like, it's like anybody can remember a bad memory, like a thing that they fucked up yesterday. But like, one of the things I do here every week is like, share, it's on Fridays. We do, FYF, it's Fuck Yeah Friday, and I share listener wins, wins for my community, and then I share one of my own. And what's so fun is that like, make it forces me every week, I'm like having to write down the wins that are happening to the week so that I have something because even as a positive person it can be. It's so easy when things get really tough to really recognize that there were positive things that happened in the week. And that's why the whole episode exists. Because it's like sometimes people think they wait till they've completed a thing. So like, for example, they wait until they could they dead lifted their goal weight to celebrate any of the deadlift. And it's like, actually, you should just celebrate you showed up today. That's pretty big deal. If life is hard right now, and he still showed up for the thing that you wanted to do. It's pretty amazing.Tamika Robinson 21:43  I love that and I love that because I think that people take for granted the small things you did show up. You you warmed up you got ready you you know you started the day, like small wins are small, like they're still wins, no matter what it looks like. Like if you did just show up to the gym and you crushed it. Great. And I think that they should be celebrated way before then because you have to do the work to go deadlift your bodyweight like what the hell Hell yeah, you did that. You worked and took all this time in the last six weeks to like build up your deadlift. And now you squatted your whole body weight. Congratulations on that. But it took work every day to get it.Lesley Logan 22:30  Yeah, I was even thinking like, like, like just celebrating that you got you got in your car. You remembered your gym clothes, like you. You got you dealt with the parking lot. You know, like these are all wins, everyone like on a hard day. It's a win that you like gotten to you got there and you maybe only flipped off one person on the way and like you just got there. So I want to go back to like you becoming a trainer and like making this your thing. So how easy was it for you to make this a full-time gig for yourself? Were you was there a part of your life where you were like doing another job and training? Like how did you make this a thing? Because I think a lot of people try to switch over into a new career. That switch can be really difficult. How did you do it? Tamika Robinson 23:15  My God. I love that. Yeah, so it was very hard. I don't consider myself like very salesy. Like, oh, hey, yeah, maybe you want to work with me? Maybe not. That's okay. Like, I'm not gonna go petition, I guess. But I've gotten better at it. So I feel very proud. But when I got started, I was I was training in the evening hours and then working a job in the daytime. Trying to like build up the clientele but like still making enough money so that way I can take care of like my day-to-day life. I couldn't live off of what I was doing for a while. So I was like, Okay, well, this just has to be it until I like figure out if this is like, a. what I really want to do. Because that was really, it was it was really I'ma go off on a tangent it was really hard for me to have the degrees that I had and then not have the career. So I had to onwire my brain and be like personal training as a career is it's not like, it's not a hobby, you get paid to do it. It's not like you can make this a full-time thing. But it was very hard for me to see that and on wiring my brain and dealing with that. I was like, Oh, I had this person's voice in my head telling me it's not good enough because you have degrees you need to go get a salary, position, a career, whatever that is. So that was really hard for me to deal with for a while and I was like, I don't know. So like every other week, I was like, I got a new client. That's great. But like, it's still not enough. Like, what am I going to do? And I'm still working. So I still have money coming in. I was like, Oh, I don't know. Like, I just I just don't see this, like, getting out the way learning paths and like, I like it should actually be like crushing it right now. And no, that's not. That's a fallacy.Lesley Logan 25:24  Isn't it? So funny. The stories we tell ourselves, I just want to say I love that you went off on the tangent, because I do know, what I do know many people are will have the degrees, because they did the thing. Especially I suppose with my elder millennials, we did the thing. We followed all the paths everyone said would give us the money and like none of us can buy a house. No. There's a whole generation of people out there who like did the thing that their parents that would like make it happen. And then you yeah, change your whole life? And then you don't, you have the degrees and you've got the cap and gown. And you know, I don't have I actually only my friends who are lawyers are the ones that are actually the ones using their degree. All of my other friends. Their degrees are in the most random they we met someone the other day who's like, head of like a gaming thing and he has a degree in history. And we're like, oh, you can't do that. Now. He's like you, you can't do that now. But like, back when I got into it, you cut and like so it's so funny, because we all think like, oh my god, like I remember when I I remember when someone said you should become a Pilates instructor, I remember thinking I can do that because I had this degree that was not in Pilates, not in fitness. And like, I was like I can I can go do that. And then like, what does that mean? And then I found myself not even telling people what my degree was so much so that my husband only found out in the last 30 days. We've been married for almost eight years. And he's like, somebody asked me what my degree was. And I told them and he's like, Yeah, that's what your degree is.Tamika Robinson 27:02  So what is it in? Lesley Logan 27:06  Oh, it's an interpersonal organizational and business communication. So like how? Yeah, so it's why I can be a business coach as a business degree. But like, I don't think anyone ever knew that. You know, but like, I remember thinking like, Oh, my God, I spent $80,000 on this degree. Yeah. Hmm. I know, like, everyone just like stomach drops. And I mean, I only had to pay for 45 of it because of scholarships. And, you know, but that was 45,000 in student loans, babes. Yeah, so it still hurt to like, I remember, like, having to unravel that. And that, that. That That wasn't my career, because I and then I remember leaving my real job and air quotes that nine to five job, and like, finding myself having to like not go like not go I'm just a Pilates instructor. Like as if that's not a job. Do you know, like, and, you know, so? So but then I was like, wait a minute, I'm especially when I was like making six fucking figures being a Pilates instructor. I'm like, What should I do? Yeah, so it's really I do understand having to like, figure out how your brain mentally understands, like, what your what you want to do is very valid. And it's actually a career and it's not like you didn't take some sort of, like route that's not legitimate, you know, and then also having to, to figure out the actual like, what are my expectations like it like it even like celebrating that you have a client and understand that that doesn't mean you like you get to leave your job yet?Tamika Robinson 28:43  Oh, yeah, I am once what. Oh, that's great. How much am I making.Lesley Logan 28:48  So so how, right, how much am I making, hence why everyone needs to get my magic calculator in charge of fucking worth because you do not want to be working 20 hours on as a side job for half the pay that you would actually charge to make it as a full-time job. Anyways, that's a different tangent. So okay, so how did you? So obviously, you're working this full-time job and you're training? What was the like, how are you telling, like setting yourself up to be a full-time trainer? Was there any actions that you were doing to like, kind of set yourself up for that full-time gig?Tamika Robinson 29:21  I'm setting myself up. I was okay. I calculated what it costs to be me to live my life.Lesley Logan 29:30  Yes. Yes, you guys write that down.Tamika Robinson 29:33  So if you are planning on serving your side hustle or leaving a full-time job, know what it is that you need to make it so you can leave and not be stressed out so you can continue your day to day seamlessly, which is nice. So I did that. And then I was like, okay, so if I'm charging clients this it's going to take me this many clients. Alright, so ultimately, I went out and got clients I like put my one client in the show and it was like, I'm snapping all the pics and I was letting everyone know, hey, I'm a trainer now I got certified, I'm ready to go. Like if you're ready to work with me, I started I started out a little messy and I started charging like, not below, but I was like, I'm really in a special. Yeah, yeah. So but I could get people in the door. At least, it worked. So that was nice. I was like, oh, man, now I'm working for like a little less than I want it. But it was okay. I got people in I started having or not having I started building my repertoire, shaping everyone getting results and showing those house posting like crazy telling friends and I had my clients telling friends and I was like, oh, yeah, perfect. And then slowly, but surely. It started to grow. And then when I turned pro in bodybuilding, then it kind of like exploded from there. Like, I don't know, like, why do people want to like train with me right now. But as soon as that happened, it changed the whole thing.Lesley Logan 31:20  It changed how you had confidence in yourself.Tamika Robinson 31:23  Yeah, it changed my confidence. And then it showed that like, oh, okay, well, she can at her and her coach know what they're doing. So let I'm gonna go that way. Like, oh, I can win a national show. You can win a national show. Yeah. All right. kind of helped. Yeah, not everybody can do that. But you know, it's a it's a good dream to sell.Lesley Logan 31:42  Yeah. But also like I, you know, I do believe that you do have to do some work to whatever your industry is. You You don't, I don't and I don't want to say this. Like, I don't believe they have to do every single Pilates exercise to be a Pilates teacher but you do have to apply his practice to do that. I don't believe you have to win a national title. But you do have to have enough competitions under your belt and have achieved some part of that to show like, I do know what it takes to get there on that stage. I do know the mentality. I do know those things. So I I do believe that like part of it is time and preparation. Yeah, yeah. Tamika Robinson 32:20  Lots of time on being it. So as soon as that happen, then clients started rolling in and I love that, like my clientele is pretty mixed. So it's not all bodybuilding. That would be a little bit nightmarish.Lesley Logan 32:39  Yeah, have a balance. You gotta have people who also just want to do a regular life.Tamika Robinson 32:44  Oh, this is easy. Yeah, let's go.Lesley Logan 32:48  Yeah, yeah,Tamika Robinson 32:49  I like my lifestyle cleanse in a lower body building plans and the bodybuilding brings in the lifestyle. They're like, Oh, they can do that. We can do this. Like yeah, it just it just worked out really well.Lesley Logan 33:00  That's so fun. Oh my god, I love that so much. Okay. Before we take a break I read that you would pretend to pay yourself $10,000 a month? Yes. Can you tell people why you did that? And how you did that? Because that is like such a being until you see it moment. I just needed to share it.Tamika Robinson 33:22  Okay, so I actually stole the idea from this book that I read. And it's called Oh hold on. No worries. I had it ready. I think it's Secrets of Six Figure Women Oh, oh my god. No. Okay, sorry, it's ok, but she did write another book called that.Lesley Logan 33:47  Same person different book. Got it.Tamika Robinson 33:50  That book was great. It was called Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny.Lesley Logan 33:56  Oh everybody put that on your book. I'm gonna get my audible my next Audible is going to be this not that I have this problem but I want to help everyone who does.Tamika Robinson 34:07  It was a psychology book about money essentially and like and then she compiled all these cool stories from all these amazing women that like were doing whatever they wanted and making five-six figures and how they overcame underearning and I realized I had a money psychology problem because I wanted I just wanted to be like even keel, comfy, cozy. I don't need extravagant things my dream car is like a Honda Accord.Lesley Logan 34:39  I wish I wish my dream car's a G Wagen everyone knows like everybody sees a G Wagen on there like someday that's going to be L's car and I'm like it is it is I'm playing 90s Rap and I'm gonna be like and it also is going to be like this I had to pick color picked out because I wanted to be like it's almost like that teal you paint on your toes like It's like that like Barbie teal. And I want like that because I want everyone to know when I I'm dry. I want people to go oh, there's Lesley like that. Like, I don't want people guessing I want them to go. That's her. She's right. That's what I want. When my car is parked on the go, Oh, she's having dinner there. Yes, I want everyone to know.Tamika Robinson 35:16  (inaudible)Lesley Logan 35:16  Exactly. That's exactly what I want. So I do understand so many people, especially women raise like, it's okay, I have enough. Yeah. You know, and it's like, it's, and that's fine. And not no one is saying, and I don't even think this person Barbara is saying you have to everybody wants to needs to make six figures or needs to want to make a million dollars. But I do think like, we all need to make sure that we're not under charging ourselves, or accepting being underpaid for our talented skills.Tamika Robinson 35:46  Exactly. And it was such an eye-opener. I was like, Oh my God, I didn't realize how growing up in me didn't have anything. Nothing was terrible or anything. I do know that there was money stress around me. I felt it on my mom's side, my dad and my stepmom side. So I got it from both households. It just was more apparent in one and it rubbed off. And I didn't realize so in reading this book, and like reading all the amazing stories. There was a chapter essentially, that ultimately was like, oh, like, you're gonna like, place higher value on you like, you deserve it. Why not? Basically, I was like, Oh, yeah. Okay, I'm feeling this a little bit. And one of the stories in the book or in the chapter was like, Yeah, I decided I was done under earning. And I wrote myself 1000 or $10,000 check every month. Just like I couldn't cash it yet. But like, yeah, got that. Not cash for that yet. But like, I'm gonna do $10,000 until it's reality, so she wouldn't write herself a check every month. $10,000, 10,000. And eventually it became reality. And she was like, Oh, when I hit my first 10,000 I was so excited. Just like, she started increasing our goal slowly. Like she was like, Yeah, I was like, Oh my God, I'll say, I'm gonna do this. So I had a bunch of Monopoly money. Okay, I should do check, but I don't know how to write those. Lesley Logan 37:41  I was just thinking like, how would I do this? Do we even have a checkbook in the house?Tamika Robinson 37:47  Where does my name go? I used Monopoly money instead. It's much easier. (inaudible) Yeah, totally put it in my little money folder. Boop. And when tuck it away, look at it. Figure out like what I'm doing calculate all my clients figure out what I'm paying in rent, what I need and all this stuff. So like, Okay, this way I want to be this where I'm at right now. How do we meet in the middle and then strategize a plan and when I made my first 10k month like, I was like, oh my god I can I can do this like what I want now it's just like working at a maintaining it because training is kind of hard. Yeah, people told me off and on but that's fine.Lesley Logan 38:36  You always need more people coming in. It's the same in my industry. Yes. And it's and then you know, it's also fine you get to where those like those ebbs and flows and you know, what months are going to be slower and which months are busier. That just takes time. But also like the fact that you're like, oh my god, I fucking just like paid myself $10,000 So it is possible and yeah, I just now it's like I can repeat if I can. If it's past I can repeat it.Tamika Robinson 39:01  Yeah, I can do it again. And I know what it takes. So I know that I need to be working this many hours a week, which I mean, that was kind of a lot but it was fine. But like knowing like how to do it, what needs to happen to do it having like a plan and a strategy in place to do it and making sure that like my numbers are good even though I have x y z coming out. Rent and gym rent and all those things that it costs. It sounds like okay, well, I can make this work so I think it's just a fun a fun way to like visualize it then like actually put so much like, behind it.Lesley Logan 39:45  Yeah, I love visualization and I love an action step even if it's you can't cash cheque yet you got the Monopoly money like here's my I just gave myself 10 grand.Tamika Robinson 39:54  Put all that in the bank, well under the mattress bank.Lesley Logan 39:57  Yeah. Imagine someone robbed in. Like money and it's all in the house (inaudible). Why is there so much monopoly money? Oh my god, you're so funny. To me. This is the best conversation. I'm really loving it. We're gonna take a brief break. And then we're gonna find out your Be It Action items. Lesley Logan 40:17  All right, first of all, before we get your action items, where do you hang out? Where can people find you, follow you, work with you.Tamika Robinson 40:25  Um, I hang out on Instagram. It's technically my favorite.Lesley Logan 40:29  Same, I just, I mean, I hate it and love it. But it's I know, it just feels like this is an old home.Tamika Robinson 40:37  Right? I really want to try TikTok. I'm just I just (inaudible). Yeah. So I'm on Instagram at the figure princess. Because I'm an IFBB figure Pro. And a princess at heart. And you can work with me through jarfit.com W-W-W-J-A-R-F-I-T dot com. And that's where I am at.Lesley Logan 41:05  Love it. Okay. So bold, executable, targeted intrinsic steps people can take to be it till they see it. What do you have for us?Tamika Robinson 41:16  I have if you're stressed-out cry. It's okay.Lesley Logan 41:24  Fucking love that. Yes. Yes. Just feel your feelings, guys.Tamika Robinson 41:27  Feel your feelings. Crying is perfectly acceptable. It is stressful doing whatever it is that you want to do. If that is quitting the nine-to-five and starting your own business, if it's, you know, trying to be a better mom. It's okay to cry. It's, you know, something of that nature. And it's overwhelming and you feel it and it's heavy. Like it's okay, let it all out, you'll feel much better I promise. And then create an action step for yourself, I guess is whatever's going to help motivate you to do what you need to do. I'm a big fan of list. I love journaling. So, I mean, write a to do list but write a to do list. I saw that someone else put this but I want you to write like 100 things on your to do list, right? Oh, yeah, no, I have a whole thing. Okay, I'm ready. I'm in. Um, so 100 things on your to do list. In this episode of Power Women In Insurance, Teresa Kitchens continues her discussion of the book, "Overcoming Underearning".  Episode Highlights: Teresa explains that Overcoming Underearning does not imply that a person is unsuccessful, but rather that they are not giving themselves enough credit and are not managing their personal lives and finances in a way that allows them to achieve their goals. (1:10) Teresa mentions that in order to apply the knowledge from “Overcoming Underearning”, it is necessary to be a person of action and create a game plan for how to grow in the future. (5:26) Teresa believes that having a plan of action will assist individuals in getting where they want to go, which is critical in getting anybody through the process. (8:19) According to Teresa, the book “Overcoming Underearning” teaches the importance of respecting and appreciating money by taking good care of it and developing habits that will get you where you want to go. (13:59) Teresa discusses an exercise in the book which is about letting go of bad habits, identifying and restructuring negative inner chatter, and delegating negative activities. (18:54) Teresa believes that for some people, casting the entirety of a vision is scary. (23:14) Teresa suggests that we let go of our attachments to the past and form new habits that help move us forward. (24:17) Teresa shares that she loves the book “Overcoming Underearning” because it provides numerous examples of how one step leads to the next, which leads to further progress toward goals. (24:49) Teresa suggests that instead of setting a specific deadline for huge goals, take one step at a time to illuminate your path and move forward. (26:04) Teresa mentions that Barbara Stanny's book “Overcoming Underearning” encourages us to think beyond finances and create great habits to make tomorrow better than it was today. (27:01) Key Quotes: “Overcoming underearning does not mean that we don't earn a good living, it doesn't mean we're not successful people, it does not mean that we for some reason, are underperforming. What it means is that we're not giving ourselves enough credit.” - Teresa Kitchens “I love the book, it really gives us so many examples even at the end when she puts it all together, of people who went on out and they took one step. And that one step illuminated the next step that they wanted, which then illuminated the next step that they wanted, which then illuminated the next step that they wanted.” - Teresa Kitchens Resources Mentioned: Contact Teresa Kitchens Sterling Insurance Group Book: Overcoming Underearning: A Five-Step Plan to a Richer Life

Episode Highlights: Teresa mentions that, in her opinion, Overcoming Underearning is about becoming entirely who she wants to be, not simply about money, finances, or treating herself well. (4:54) Teresa reminds everyone that being an underearner does not mean that people are unhappy with their current situation; rather, it indicates that they are earning less than they could or should be earning. (6:13) Teresa shares that she loves the second portion of the book because it truly talks to us about how stating the truth is the beginning of saying “I want more”. (8:10) Teresa explains that we must also consider what we want to include in our financial future. (15:57) Teresa discusses the part of the book that touches on the importance of writing down every fear we have in our heads. (21:56) Teresa mentions that the only thing holding us back is ourselves because we make subconscious changes or decisions to avoid taking risks. (30:23) Teresa explains that affirmations and reprogramming our minds with positive ideas help us overcome underearning and worries to go where we want to go. (33:43) Teresa believes that Overcoming Underearning is reprogramming us to be honest with ourselves and to attain our objectives, both financially and in other ways. (36:05) Teresa discusses that her security and safety are important to her and although she wants someone else to look after her, based on her experience, she understands that isn't always the case. (45:15) Teresa explains the reasons why we should stop asking for the opinions of other people. (53:02) Key Quotes: “Remember, the definition of an underearner does not mean you're not okay with where you are. It means you're earning less than you should be making, you could be making.” - Teresa Kitchens “Affirmations and being able to reprogram our mind with positive thoughts rather than negative ones. It helps us to not overcome underearning but it helps us to be able to step over our fears to get where we want to go.” - Teresa Kitchens “For me, security and safety is a really, really big thing. In this throwback episode of Power Women In Insurance, Teresa Kitchens discusses what underearning is and why it is so important to see the signs of it so we can fully achieve our goals. Episode Highlights: Teresa shares how reading Barbara Stanny's book Overcoming Underearning has changed the way she thinks about herself, her business, and what she wants to accomplish in the insurance industry. (00:11) Teresa explains that the book begins with a great parable, and it's truly about how we as people become overwhelmed by "what if," "maybe I can't," or "what if I don't?". (3:34) Teresa mentions that she loves the definition of stress in the first section of the book because it says stress is underearning and worrying about the future, and she can relate to it because she always worries about the future. (6:12) Teresa explains that underearning is a side result of not living our full potential, but we must remember that everyone has their own goals, perspectives, and way of reacting to things, and they react based on their own unique thoughts and feelings. (10:39) Teresa shares that being able to dive further into what we want helps us define what we want, which is important. (13:42) Teresa mentions that changing our relationship with money is one of the book's goals, and that money is just a tool to live the life we want to live. (18:03) Teresa explains that the greatest fear for underearners is having more to do. The main fear that underearners have about earning more money is that they will have no life and that continue work endlessly. (26:02) Teresa believes that if we do not accept personal responsibility, we will find ourselves in chaotic situations, financially, personally, spiritually, and emotionally, because we did not take care of business along the way. (29:16) Teresa encourages everyone to set goals, answer questions about whether or not they are underearners, and evaluate their mental conversations. (43:50) Key Quotes: “Underearning is a side result from not living up to our full potential, whatever that looks like… but we have to remember that everybody has their own goals. Everybody has their own perspective. Everybody has their own way they react to things and they react based on their own personal thoughts and feelings.” - Teresa Kitchens “In order to grow and to learn and to be something more, we have to know what we want to be and what we want to accomplish in order to get there.” - Teresa Kitchens “One of the goals of the book is to be able to change our relationship with money. Money is just a tool. Money is a tool for us to live the life that we want to live.” - Teresa Kitchens “By knowing what we want to do with our money, what makes us feel successful, what makes us feel happy, we can give ourselves pieces of that. But then we also know how we need to learn how to not let that get out of control. That is very important because if it gets out of control, it can impede us from being able to get where we really want to go.” - Teresa Kitchens Resources Mentioned: Contact Teresa Kitchens Sterling Insurance Group Book: Overcoming Underearning: A Five-Step Plan to a Richer Life

I grew up relying on my father (the “R” of H&R Block), then my husband, to manage my inheritance. But early in my marriage, I found out my husband was a compulsive gambler. And here's the insane part — I continued to let him handle all our finances because that's how scared and intimidated I was by money. That didn't change until a devastating financial crisis became a personal wake-up call. I got tax bills for over $1m for illegal deals my ex got us in. He'd left the country. I didn't have anywhere close to $1m. And my father wouldn't lend me the money. I had three daughters — one just a baby, and I was not going to raise them on the street. That's when I knew I had to get smart. And I did. I share my journey to financial independence in hopes of inspiring, and even better, motivating YOU to become smart (or smarter) with money… and earn more than you're making now. It's much simpler and more in your control than you may realize. My life took a miraculous turn when I began, as a former journalist, interviewing financially savvy women. I discovered a surprising series of insights that all these women shared — insights that enabled them (and eventually, me) to get smart about money. Those insights became the core of my first book, Prince Charming Isn't Coming: How Women Get Smart About Money (Penguin). Suddenly, I was a financial expert, with a whole new career, traveling the country educating women about money. But I couldn't make money, at least not very much, no matter how hard I worked. That's when my mentor, Karen McCall, told me I was an underearner. “I am not!” I protested. “I'm a writer. Everyone knows writers don't make money!!!” I truly believed that until I decided to focus my research on women's earnings. Rather than concentrate on the wage gap and gender barriers, I turned my attention to the women who were breaking those barriers. I interviewed over 150 women who made $100,000 or more. My goal: to find out how they did it, if I could too, and how to avoid the pitfalls along the way. From this new research came my next book, Secrets of Six Figure Women: Surprising Strategies to Up Your Earnings and Change Your Life (HarperCollins). I not only uncovered the secrets that enabled these women to become financially successful, but for the first time in my life, I became a six-figure woman — before I even finished writing the book. At the same time, I began giving Overcoming Underearning® seminars to teach others what I was learning. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/kara-allan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kara-allan/support

In this solo episode of Power Women In Insurance, Teresa Kitchens discusses what underearning is and why it is so important to see the signs of it so we can fully achieve our goals.

This is part 3 of a series about the compass points that I use as the true north for any business. In the first 2 episodes in this series we covered how to make progress and the things that can get us caught in the weeds, and in last week's episode we discussed strategic simplicity and some of the more common things in this cultural moment that can keep us mired in needless complexity. Which brings us to the topic of today's episode, the one most service-based business owners, myself included, would rather put their heads in the sand over than talk about! Businesses should be financially beneficial to those who run them and work within them. Here are the top 3 common issues around money that I want to get to today: 1) We tend to over-give and under-receive which creates Chronic insufficiency, often experienced as underearning. 2) We usually do not know how much we need to earn and therefore we do not know what we need to charge (meaning we don't have informed pricing or financial planning for our businesses). 3) We do not set up systems so that finances are tracked and taken care of; and then we wind up short when it comes time to pay taxes, take a vacation, or take some sick or personal time off. OR we simply don't know where all the money goes and why we don't feel like we're earning enough even though our revenue numbers look pretty good. If you can relate to some or all of these, you are not alone! I see this over and over again when I work with very small business owners. And of course, I have done all of these things myself. I came to financial recovery work the hard way. Today's episode of the podcast is an interview with Jane Walters, where we chat about all things finance and money. Jane is a former financial planner turned financial and money mindset coach. She helps women transform their financial lives by teaching them the practical tools to manage their finances as well as supporting them to uncover and change their relationship with money. She brings nearly 20 years' experience in the financial services industry, in both Australia and the UK, and extensive training as a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Master Practitioner and Meta-Coach. She believes very strongly that when women have more money the world will be a better place for everyone. We talked about what money mindset is, the relationships people have with money and how to overcome deeply ingrained beliefs that are keeping you from the life (and wealth) of your dreams.   KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCAST: How mindset and manifesting works together with practical action. How our relationship to money affects our ability to earn, spend and save money and how it can help us create the amazing life we want. Why we need to be efficient with how we spend our money, but also be able to see where the opportunities are. Why investing in yourself as a business owner is necessary to grow your business. Why debt isn't always negative, and the need to differentiate between ‘good debt' and ‘bad debt'. How to know when and when not to invest in something for your business. How and why money issues show up differently in men and women.   THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO REMEMBER ABOVE ALL ELSE: It's important to be efficient about how we spend our money, but if we want to grow, we also need to see where the opportunities that are worth investing in for our business and for ourselves are.   HIGHLIGHTS YOU SIMPLY CAN'T MISS: How to be strategic in spending your money, but not missing opportunities because of being too scared of risk. Why you need to reframe fear around money management to empower you to make better decisions. Why we need to be kinder to ourselves about the things we don't know about money.   RESOURCES MENTIONED:   Jane Walters https://www.instagram.com/janekwalters/ (Instagram) and http://www.janekwalters.com (Website) https://teresaheathwareing.com/theclub/ (Dream Business Club Membership) https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hello-seven-podcast/id1441242814 (Rachel Rodgers Podcast) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Profit-First-Transform-Cash-Eating-Money-Making/dp/073521414X (Profit First Book) https://www.amazon.co.uk/You-Are-Badass-Making-Money/dp/0735222975 (You are a badass at making money by Jen Sincero) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Overcoming-Underearning-Overcome-Money-Deserve/dp/0060818611/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=overcoming+underearning+barbara+stanny&qid=1652989375&sprefix=overcoming+under%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-2 (Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny)   TRANSCRIPT   Hello, and a super warm welcome to this week's episode of the podcast. How are you? So we have an interview this week with the lovely Jane Walters. Jane is a financial coach and talks all things money. But what I really love about this conversation and Jane's take on it is Jane comes from an almost financial background, a very practical money background. But as interweave, this money background with now, things like the money mindset. And we talk about things and I joke about the film, the secret. I dunno if you've seen it or read the book and, you know, I love a bit manifesting, you know, I'm totally into all that, but in that film, It shows this thing of this guy, literally waking up and wishing for a Lamborghini or something. And then the next day it's there on his drive. Like yeah, no, I don't think that's true. So. I'm so excited to share this second episode in our four-part Money Miracles series! Last week we explored our ‘money stories' and how we can begin to tell better stories to experience money miracles. Today I am sharing my Top 3 Money Miracle books for lightworkers to help you magnify your money miracles.    In this episode, I will share how each book helped me to 1) double my income in 28 days 2) triple my income in 30 days 3) catapult my business well over the six-figure mark! I will share my actual experience, not just what I read, to inspire you that YOU can do it too!    I would love to hear your experience with these concepts! And don't forget that next week is Episode 100 and our topic will be the $10,000 Miracle!!   Key learnings:   The first book is The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. This book takes you through a 28-day gratitude process that will completely change your attitude and point of attraction. By being grateful for what we already have, we can begin to be grateful for that which is not yet in our experience, which accelerates the manifestation process. The second book is How Quantum Physicists Build New Beliefs by Greg Kuhn. This book will help you to gradually move yourself up the Emotional Reference Chart so that you can get used to feeling better. If you try to go from fear to joy overnight, you likely will boomerang back to fear. This process will help you to live in a higher frequency and stay there. The third book is Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny. This is the book that helped me to cross the six-figure mark as a lightworker. While the other two books are very much focused on your energy, this book also addresses your behavior. Are you undercharging? Paying for others who can pay for themselves? Being codependent with your money? If you are sabotaging yourself in any way, this book will help you address and heal that.    “The Magic by Rhonda Byrne is the book that helped me double my income in 28 days. However, she says that controlling your financial situation can be simple, and we should take time to get smarter. Working around the clock might help you find success at your job, but what's the value if you feel burnt out? Now more than ever, finding a work-life balance that works for you is essential. Today Linda is joined by Amanda Abella, CEO and founder of Make Money Your Honey, to talk about the value of rest and relaxation and how Amanda finds balance in her own life. The benefits of finding time for rest and relaxation: Having time for relaxation helps generate better ideas, feel better physically, and be more emotionally balanced. These criteria not only affect your work productivity, but also your general mental health and ability to find meaning and happiness in your life.  How does Amanda relax? Personally, Amanda goes to the beach. But, for building her business, Amanda likes to think she's on a mission to fire herself.  To build stability and time for relaxation within her business, she thinks with the end in mind.  Most business owners don't think about the end result and take whatever comes to them.  When Amanda hired her first assistant, they sat down and planned their vision. Amanda only wanted to sell and make connections through podcasts. That's it.  It took them over two years for Amanda to get to that goal. But she started with that vision in mind and made decisions to reach it.  Amanda's experience with letting go:  Amanda naturally just generates ideas, so a big part of shutting down was accepting that's how she's wired, and there's nothing wrong with it.  Instead of fighting it, which was draining, she just accepted it. However, just because she lets herself develop ideas doesn't mean she starts implementing them all tomorrow.  Why relaxation is essential to Amanda's community: Amanda doesn't want her or her team to be running ragged because that doesn't help anybody.  She teaches sales to women, who are notorious underearners. Women are conditioned to overwork for little pay and not ask for what they want, and it creates a perpetual cycle of overworking and underearning. Amanda wants to teach women not to accept this. What can someone do if they have a hard time relaxing?  If you have a hard time relaxing, there's something you aren't owning or something you're trying to avoid. Do some self-inquiry to determine why and what the problem is. For Amanda, realizing there's a difference between recognizing her vision and goals and allowing herself to become overworked and overloaded feels different.  Episode Resources: If you're a woman, join her free Facebook group, where they do complimentary training once a week.  Find her podcast and videos on her YouTube channel, and connect with her on Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.  Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Houston (formerly Barbara Stanny) changed Amanda's life and revealed how to earn what you deserve and live at your full potential. In this episode of Happily Holistic, Amy talks to Barbara Huson (formerly Stanny). Barbara is an author, financial therapist, and wealth coach. She focuses on teaching women to empower themselves. Barbara grew up in a wealthy family with little knowledge about money. She was told by her dad not to worry, but that changed when her husband of 15 years started to gamble her inheritance. After her divorce, she found herself with 2 million dollars in taxes for illegal transactions her ex-husband had made. Through many books, classes, and interviews, Barbara was able to climb out of financial disparity and turn her earnings around. By the time her book, Secrets of Six Figure Women, was released, Barbara was making more than six figures. She says that her success was divinely ordained. During the podcast, Barbara breaks down the difference between making money and being wealthy. We learn what some six-figure women are not doing to secure their future and how we can all implement strategies to change our own bank accounts. Barbara defines an underearner and shows us key differences between an underearner and an overearner. She goes into the biology of why patterns and new habits might push us to be more financially successful. Link https://www.barbara-huson.com/ https://www.barbara-huson.com/books-and-products/

Meet Barbara Huson Barbara Huson (previously known as Barbara Stanny) is the leading authority on women, wealth, and power. As a bestselling author, financial therapist, teacher & wealth coach, Barbara has helped millions take charge of their finances and their best lives. Barbara's background in business, her years as a journalist, her Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, her extensive research, and her personal experience with money give her a unique perspective and makes her the foremost expert on empowering women to live up to their financial and personal potential.     Barbara Huson has been featured on Good Morning America, The View, Extra, The O'Reilly Report, and many times on CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Fox News, PBS, and NPR, as well as in the New York Times and USA Today.   Barbara is the author of 7 books:  Prince Charming Isn't Coming: How Women Get Smart About Money  Secrets of Six-Figure Women: Surprising Strategies to up Your Earnings and Change Your Life  Overcoming Underearning: A Five-Step Plan to a Richer Life  Finding a Financial Advisor You Can Trust: A Guide for Investors and Those Who Want To Be  Breaking Through: Getting Past the Stuck Points in Your Life  Sacred Success: A Course in Financial Miracles, and Rewire for Wealth was just published in January 2021 Barbara Huson talks very openly both in this conversation and in her books about being in a financial fog for the first 45 years of her life. She adopted the belief through her family upbringing that she didn't have to deal with finances or money, only to find out that after her husband left her and the country, that she owed hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her former husband was a stockbroker and also a compulsive gambler. Barbara has since learned that if you don't deal with your money, your money will deal with you and has gone on to teach thousands of women about how to create wealth, financial freedom, worthiness, and wellbeing. This was such a rich conversation and I'm excited for you to learn so much of what I've taken away from her many powerful books and teachings.       The Secrets of Successful Women with High Earnings Barbara Huson explains how working with successful women who experience financial freedom still struggled with self-doubt. Proving that insecurities exist no matter how high up the ladder a woman may climb. The difference Barbara found is that each of these women felt the fear and did it anyway. They refused to let fear stand in their way of success, knowing that it was part of the equation. Barbara shares that the number one requirement for success and thriving financially is being willing to do what you fear. That is the big secret to financial freedom.  The Power of Fear Barbara Huson has a take on fear that I think is incredibly empowering and true. In sum, it is to turn towards the fear and go there. Ask yourself, what are you most scared to do? That's the secret, that one little thing. Follow what scares you most. It is essential to have lots of support so that when that fear rises, and it will rise, you don't let it stop you, but be there to help you push through with your head held high.  Overcoming Underearning  In Barbara Huson's (previously Barbara Stanny) book Overcoming Underearning: A Five-Step Plan To A Richer Life, she defines underearning as when anyone who needs or desires to earn more but can't despite their best efforts. There isn't a specific number attached to underearning, as you could be underearning at 6-figures. It is reaching a point and being unable to break it no matter what you do. Maybe this is because you feel like what you are doing doesn't feed your soul. Instead, it deprives you of its true purpose, often having the quality of feeling a lack of money, time, and boundaries. Barbara explains how boundaries are crucial to set and should be based on a "hell yes"; otherwise, it's about having the courage to say no. Creating boundaries actually builds your self-esteem instead of encouraging self-doubt. She further explains in her book that problems with money are rarely about money and rather have everything to do with power. Barbara defines power from a new lens and explains that feminine power is about knowing who a woman is, knowing what she wants, and expressing that in the world unapologetically.  The Addiction Many of Us Have There's an addiction that many of us have that keeps us from financial freedom-ATBS. ATBS stands for Addiction to Busyness Syndrome. This need to be busy keeps you from feeling inner pain and can be hard driving. It is the over "doing" that you numb yourself to what is really wanting to be birthed in your soul. The antidote is taking time to be, do nothing, and ultimately surrender to your soul's purpose. You must be willing to be quiet, to slow down and to stop the busyness and hear your soul's whisper. This allows the unfolding of your purpose, and from the purpose, your success.  How To Find Sacred Success  Barbara Huson's book Sacred Success: A Course in Financial Miracles is about pursuing your soul's purpose. This entails doing the outer work, the inner work, the higher work, and the deeper work. It is all about moving from survival to stability (having just enough) to affluence, which allows you to make a more significant difference. Barbara's motto is to pursue your greatness, which is where the deep gladness of your soul's desire meets the deep hunger on the planet. Ultimately, this is about leaving a legacy and deciding how you want to make a difference and how you want to be known after your gone. Rewire for Wealth  Rewire for Wealth is Barbara Huson's latest book promoting financial freedom. In Rewire for Wealth, she weaves in neuroscience, spirituality, and psychology to teach a powerful 3-step process to help you rewire your brain for wealth. These 3 steps are: Recognize: Recognize the self-doubt thought with curiosity, and notice that you're having a thought about 'I'm not enough,' not that the thought is the truth of who you are. Recognize that you are separate from the thought. Reframe: Reframe your limiting beliefs. Ask yourself, 'how can I see this differently?' For example, 'there's not enough money' to 'there's plenty of money'.  Respond: Respond differently as if the reframe is true. Repeat this over and over and if you can, feel the truth and add the excitement to your voice.  Final Thoughts With a bit of work, we can rewire our brains from limiting thoughts and self-doubt to new beliefs that align with our desires, leading us towards success, excellent health, and financial freedom. The secret lies within us if only we take the time to do the work. One of my favorite takeaways: Do what you fear, sacred soul, as that is where your secret treasure lies.        You can learn more about Barbara and her work at www.Barbara-Huson.com.     Sacred Connection As always, this community is a sacred, safe place built on love and acceptance. Barbara Stanny (Huson) | Overcoming Underearning | Book Review by Lisa Woodruff On Mondays, I will be posting a podcast recording of previously recorded book reviews. These are books that have impacted me that I want to share with you. Just in time for tax day, throughout April, I review books on money and money mindset. I share my own beliefs, ideas, and thoughts about money, and I share how I have been able to transform these over time.  Overcoming Underearning: Overcome Your Money Fears and Earn What You Deserve & Secrets of Six-Figure Women: Surprising Strategies to Up Your Earnings and Change Your Life by Barbara Stanny helped me to overcome many of my personal limiting beliefs about money.  I started with these books in 2016 and used her quizzes to journal about the thoughts in my head that were holding down my success. Being positive, abundant, and wealthy are available to all of us, but we need to work on our mindsets. This book helped me to cultivate my mindset to move up in my earning and in how I manage my money.  You can also watch this as a video review on YouTube.  Follow me on Goodreads! This solo episode was recorded with lots of heart and the intention of helping you raise what I'm calling your Prosperity Quotient, or PQ. Really this is about overcoming feelings of lack, struggles with worthiness and not good enough, as it relates to your money, finances and overall feeling of prosperity. If you prefer a visual version, do check my episode out on YouTube, where all episodes are posted.    Some of the takeaways from this episode are: The root of all lack consciousness and fear or discomfort with prosperity comes from a lack of worthiness. I'm here to remind you that you are worthy for no other reason then you are a human being. You do not need to prove your worthiness nor is it something that fluctuates.  What you appreciate, appreciates. By focusing on where and how you do feel prosperous will help call forth more prosperity. Not sure this is true? Try doing this for a week and see what happens. Like you, money is energy. How you feel about this energy has everything to do with the money and prosperity you are attracting or repelling. The great news is that all of this can be changed with focused intention and attention. If you struggle with underarning, self-debting or discomfort charging for your services, I highly recommend the books Money A Love Story, by Kate Northrup, Overcoming Underearning and Sacred Success, by Barbara Stanny (coming soon on this podcast) and It's Not Your Money, by Tosha Silver.    If i can support you at all on your prosperity journey, please reach out anytime. Before I get into this, let me make one thing very clear: I am not against making a lot of money. Do your money mindset work. Get out there and get loaded. I want you and I to change lives, get rich doing it, and then turn around and put it in the hands of people and organizations that can make a real, positive difference in this world. However - I think that many of us are approaching our businesses with a money-centric mindset that is not actually helping us get there. And I think that our obsession with 6-figure and 7-figure coaches is part of it. Here’s why:Creating a successful business is hard work. It requires determination and faith and never giving up even when things are hard or don’t seem to be working. The message that many of us seem to be taking away from watching all of these “I made 6 figures in 8 months, let me show you how” coaches is that if we do it right we will make 6 figures in 8 months. As a result, a few things happen:-We get impatient and give up too quickly-We act out of desperation and don't make sound, measured decisions-We stop thinking about our people because we're too busy thinking about that 6-figure coach-We shut up because we feel like we aren't an authority if we aren't making lots of money-We abandon our intuition in favor of formulas and "should"sThat's what I explore in this episodeJoin the Creating Clarity WaitlistTake the FREE Offer Creation TrainingJoin my Email ListFollow me on InstagramBooks mentioned in this episode:Overcoming Underearning by Barbara StanneyThe Soul of Money by Lynne TwistYou are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero

What would your life be like without financial stress? Can you even imagine it? A big source of financial stress is underearning, especially for lightworkers and spiritual entrepreneurs.   In today’s episode I review the book Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny. She outlines a five-part plan to help you heal your financial fears and earn what you deserve. I will share my own story of how the principles in this book helped me to shift my money mindset and increase my income. If I can do it, YOU can too! Key learnings: LightWorkers often put the needs of others before their own, especially with money. This leads to underearning and being unable to do your “true work” full time. Healing underearning is not about making a certain amount of income, it’s about having the mindset to earn what you deserve. It’s crucial for spiritual entrepreneurs to heal their relationship with money so they can make whatever amount they need to take excellent care of themselves. “Underearning is earning less that your potential, despite your need or desire to do otherwise.” Barbara Stanny Click here to buy Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny   Two other great money books: You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero The Jewel of Abundance by Ellen Grace O’Brian

Do you have money issues, or struggle with reconciling being a healer and charging money for it? If you’re like the majority of us in Reiki or other healing arts, the answer is yes. Chellie Kammermeyer is on the podcast to talk about this with Colleen and Robyn Benelli. She talks about healing this part of ourselves, her own struggle and journey to heal it within herself, and how she now helps her clients and students transform it. This podcast is not about materialism or the “need for money or things”, actually quite the opposite. It’s about self worth, the act of receiving, our gifts and talents, contributing to the wellness of the world, healing culturally created beliefs, valuing being a healer as much as valuing lawyers and accountants, and paying our bills by doing this work so we can manifest the more important vision that we all have: healing ourselves, other people, and collectively trying to add more love to the world. Chellie also shares some exercises we can do right now to start our own healing process and monetary vision that we have for ourselves! Barbara Stanny, Author Prince Charming Isn't Coming Women can have a love/hate relationship with money. Even in today’s society, some women feel they are not going to be attractive to a mate if they are financially put together. Barbara Stanny and Kathleen delve into the notion that women are still waiting for Prince Charming to rescue them financially instead of empowering themselves to learn about investments and money management. Listen in as they discuss the importance of busting this myth wide open so that women of all ages can be more financially intelligent and set a good example for the next generation. Key Take Aways: Barbara explains that getting smart about money involves a three-pronged process – the outer work (education), the inner work (money mindsets), and the higher work (your life purpose). You need to take small steps consistently and you will see remarkable results. Money doesn’t come from what you earn, it comes from what you do with what you earn.
