Ever faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles on your path to success? That's the reality for many entrepreneurs, including our guest André Eikmeier, the tenacious co-founder of VinoMofo and founder of Good Empire. Andre's tale is one of relentless ambition, influenced by his father's immigrant entrepreneurial spirit. He takes us on a journey that's as diverse as it is compelling—from early career aspirations in acting and singing to the rollercoaster ride of business ventures, both failed and triumphant.Turning to the emotional battlefield of innovation, we discuss the cultural paradox of entrepreneurial glory versus the actual high-stakes game of creating something from nothing. André reveals the stark truth behind the scenes of his ventures, including the financial and personal struggles that often go unnoticed. Our conversation serves as a reminder that even amidst the glamour of success stories like Canva and Atlassian, the path of a founder is fraught with challenges that demand resilience and a nurturing ecosystem to thrive. As we wrap up, André reflects on his transformation from a self-focused entrepreneur to a socially conscious leader, revealing how personal responsibility and the desire to effect positive change became central to his mission. We also recognise the power of community engagement and encourage listeners to become part of the conversation. Andre's vulnerability in sharing the raw intricacies of startup life offers a beacon of hope and a repository of wisdom for those navigating their own entrepreneurial odysseys.Follow André and Good Empire:https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreeikmeier/https://www.goodempire.org APG EliteMentoring - Management - ConsultingDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Leaving a Legacy of Love and Humility with Paul Edginton : EP 6A builder of legacies through love and humility is what excites Paul Edginton. Right from his childhood, Paul realised that a life of service to somebody else is the true meaning of purpose which he brings to his roles in the not-for-profit and business world.Paul has enriched the lives of youth on the streets for many, many years and changed the thinking of how not-for-profit businesses operate. As CEO, he's taken SYC from a $400K members profit to a $30M+ balance sheet. Taking this knowledge to the role he has now as CEO of Vinomofo, he uses the core value of love to permeate every aspect.  Paul's quiet but commanding personality shines in this conversation as he delves into some enticing questions around:·      Leadership in the business world today·      The advantage you can teach your kids for the future of business·      His personal life and how that's entwined with how he operates in the business world·      How love is central to the business landscape·      What's made him a better CEO·      What in his childhood led to the type of businessman he is todayMy key takeaways from this conversation with Paul are:·      Refuse & Decide – I refuse to accept that and I decide to do something differently·      Failure is to be looked at as school fees – some are expensive ·      “Love” makes corporates uncomfortable A quote from the conversation that stuck with me: “If you can do it, then do it! If you don't know how, I'll show you. If you can but won't, then go away!” Great books Paul recommends:Of Mice & Men by John Steinbeckhttps://www.amazon.com/Mice-Men-John-Steinbeck/dp/0140177396Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnsonhttps://www.amazon.com.au/Moved-Cheese-Spencer-M-D-Johnson/dp/0091816971 Connect with Paul here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-edginton-5047a511/Thank you for listening, if you enjoyed the episode, please rate the show and write a review that shares with others what you enjoyed the most.   We love hearing from you so please drop us an email hello@kristianlivolsi.com.au Don't forget to Subscribe to this channel for updates and future podcasts!  If you have any questions about today's podcast or want to get in touch send me a message or book a call here https://businessgrowthmindset.com/ Follow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kristianlivolsi LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristianlivolsi/ Twitter:  https://twitter.com/kristianlivolsi  #KristialLivolsi #Podcast #BusinessGrowth #GrowYourBusiness #GrowthMindset #TrustedAdvisor #BusinessOwners #Success #BusinessCoach #BusinessTips #startup #entrepreneur   If you know any Top Achievers that we should have on the show get in touch with us at podcast@businessgrowthminset.com.au

Andre finally launched wine startup, Vinomofo, with his brother-in-law Justin, and they grew it from two founders in his garage into a $100m wine brand, uniting a community of passionate wine lovers all around world. In 2018 he left Vinomofo to create Good Empire. Say hello to the next big thing: Good Empire.  How did Andre go from co-founding Aussie online wine retailer, Vinomofo, to building a new company that's set out to tackle the world's biggest issues? Change is hard, and humans love convenience, so how will Good Empire motivate people to take action? What advice does Andre have for entrepreneurs and business leaders? If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be? “The C word is killing us. Convenience. It’s the most destructive human trait. Moreso even than greed.  Fast. Disposable. Cheap. Instantly gratifying. I think we all need to change our thinking and conversations around "convenience" being a good thing. Because it raises the question - WHY do we need this convenience? What are we making more time for? And what are we losing in the process? Mindfulness. Experience.” _____ André Eikmeier is a $100m startup founder, brand visionary, adventurer, storyteller, and passionate thought leader on purpose, culture, growing tribes and being human. He talks openly about his own failures and the insights that have shaped him and built his success. As a startup founder and champion of change for good, André is probably best known for co-founding and building online wine startup Vinomofo into a $100m global company renowned for its strong customer culture and helped change the very brand of wine in this country - I myself was an early fan of the brand & still buy (way too much) from them today!! Life before that is a twenty-year story of 5 failed businesses and 3 different careers, from writing to acting on screen and stage to fronting Australia’s biggest covers band of the 90s...mixed in with a year-long kombi wine adventure. In 2018, André founded Good Empire, a global community platform to gather, unite and empower people to live more connected, purposeful, and impactful lives. As a guy with a strong moral code and champion of change for good - he seems to hit his soul's work. With Year of the Planet they’re helping people change their lives to live more sustainably, and now the One Million Butterflies project is helping empower and reconnect people around the world through this time of big change, fear and uncertainty. As I've been bombarding you about on socials, I'm sure most of you already know I met the inimitable Gary Vaynerchuck last week when he was briefly in Melbourne to launch the epic collaboration between his new company, Empathy Wines, and Aussie wine legends, Vinomofo, thanks to another amazing Seize the Yay guest and Vinomofo founder, Justin Dry. Ahead of every curve with his astonishing intuition, Gary Vee has gone from former Soviet Union migrant to worldwide entrepreneurial sensation embracing e-commerce before the term was coined taking his family wine business from a $3million to $60million turnover when he took over the reins and producing content prolifically since YouTube was just four months old. The accolades and achievements since then are too many to list, but most importantly not as relevant to list as you might expect despite him having since founded VaynerMedia as well as investing early in many of the world's biggest beasts a la Facebook, Snapchat, Venmo etc. Not having been quite sure what to expect, it was so delightful to be met with an incredibly humble, hardworking and honest person focused more on redefining success away from financial metrics and external approval and towards happiness and love – he is definitely seizing his yay and I'm SO grateful he shared some of it on the show. To join this club you have to make a pledge: “There is no right or wrong, there is only what I like and don’t like.” In 2011, in an industry full of pretention, Justin Dry and Andre Eikmeier founded an online wine community with down-to-earth ideals. By July 2016 Vinomofo had 450,000 members and set its sights on overseas markets. In this first part of the Vinomofo story, Justin Dry explains how Vinomofo fought off the big wine sellers by offering some of the very best wines at great prices – and built a passionate following in the process. The story of my guest today is so compelling and such a beautiful example of how our bodies have the capacity to not only heal physically but heal us on an emotional level as well. When Amanda Campbell was in her 20s, she had found herself in a hospital bed nearly crippled with multiple sclerosis. Having arrived at that state, she recognized that she had spent the few years previous in denial of her symptoms and the messages that were coming through her body.   In this episode, Amanda shares with us the shift in mindset that she had and how she got there, how to access your resilience (regardless of facing adversity), and how she's been able to leverage these two pieces (mindset plus resilience) in moving forward to build a successful business and help other people overcome difficult situations to live their lives on their terms.   It was truly a pleasure having this conversation and I cannot wait for you all to learn more about resilience, how a flexible mindset impacts everything that matters (from our body's ability to repair to how happy and resilient we are to how connected we feel), and how we can live a balanced life that allows for incredible health and growth both physically and mentally.   Key Takeaways: [1:30] About today's episode. [2:35] Welcoming Amanda Campbell to the podcast! [3:05] Amanda shares her beautiful story and the compelling turn of events with her health and the work that she is now doing in the world. [14:29] Amanda speaks about what shifted in her beliefs as a result of what she went through. [16:48] The evolution of how Amanda has come to view the role of her body as a communicator and partner in the work that she does in this world. She also speaks about the evolution of her mindset and the respect she has for her body. [19:39] How the concept of resilience has penetrated the work that Amanda does when she's helping other people with respect to their health. [21:16] Amanda shares her formula for resilience. [24:25] Is it possible for us to develop resilience and to refine the skills of resilience without necessarily facing adversity? [26:30] How do we, as parents, instill resilience in our children without putting them through trauma? Is resilience a gift to those who have gone through adversity? How do we make it accessible? [28:44] How going through adversity has impacted Amanda as a business person as well as accelerate her growth and the work that she's currently doing in the world. [31:20] What does Amanda do for self-care now so that she stays mindful of health? [35:22] When Amanda is working with a client that is going through both physical and emotional ailments, where does she start? Is it always the same place? Or does she prioritize one over the other? [36:17] About Fullscript. [37:35] Amanda's key performance indicators! [40:29] Where to find more about Amanda and the amazing work that she does! [40:58] Thanking Amanda for joining the podcast!   Mentioned in This Episode: Amanda Campbell Fullscript Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender, by David R. Hawkins Caroline Myss The Entrepology Podcast Page The Entrepology Collective Facebook Page   More About Amanda Campbell As the founder of Bend Like Bamboo, Amanda is one of Australia's leading experts on resilience, running a leadership program with quarterly exposure to some of the fresh thinking and novel insights into the world of resilience.   Amanda believes that flexibility builds resilience. Overcoming adversity, Amanda discovered that a flexible mindset impacts everything that matters — our body's ability to repair, how happy and resilient we are, and how connected we feel.   “How we think and feel and believe is a mirror image of how we perceive our environment, how we will show up when tested, and the health of our body.” — Amanda Campbell   With a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis at age 24 and a paralysis at just 29 years old, Amanda was faced with never walking again. She was stretched to her limit, emotionally and physically. With no choice but to succeed and the odds stacked against her, Amanda had to change her mind about what could be possible to create new results.   Embracing a balanced approach, Amanda had to embrace uncertainty and change to discover what she was made of. Learning how to walk and run again led to her transforming her mind, body, and life. Now a decade on, Amanda's passion is to inspire others to embrace their obstacles as an opportunity to awaken their potential whilst maximizing health.   Amanda truly believes when given the right environment, the mind and body are capable of producing incredible results. Amanda founded her private practice Bend Like Bamboo in 2013. A year later she co-founded her second startup Nourissh that received funding from VinoMofo with a focus on nutrition. As a proud MS Ambassador, Amanda has built a career speaking about resilience, promoting wellbeing, and potential.   Connect with my Guest: Website: AmandaCampbell.com.au Social Media: Facebook: @AmandaCampbellSpeaker & @BendLikeBamboo, Instagram: @AmandaCampbell_Speaker & @BendLikeBamboo, and Twitter: @AmandaC_Health   If you enjoyed our conversation and would like to hear more: Please subscribe to The Entrepology Podcast on Stitcher or iTunes. At the age of 12, Justin Dry saw his entrepreneur father lose everything. Now, Justin is the co-founder and CEO of one of Australia’s fastest growing companies, Vinomofo. He joins us for our second COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ episode, chatting to us from his home office at the dining room table, with handy access to the wine fridge and his 4-month-old daughter Matisse in the next room. Justin and his brother-in-law Andre Eikmeier launched Vinomofo from their Adelaide garage in 2011, and since then it has grown to over $50 million in annual revenue, 500,000 members and operations across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Earlier generations of Justin’s family planted the first vines in the Barossa, so wine practically flows through his veins, but it took a couple of turns on the small business merry-go-round before he and Andre hit on a winning idea. Justin opens up about those earlier business experiences and how they helped build Vinomofo – as well as the business decision that saw him repeating his father’s mistakes. We also chat about Justin’s love for self-motivation and forward planning, how he thinks COVID-19 will reshape the wine industry, and his passion for island holidays. Every now and then I come across a brand that has such an infectiously fun personality that I fall instantly in love with it. And then I want to find out who is behind the brand! Who Gives A Crap, Vinomofo and Birdsnest are prime examples of really great fun brands. And Cake 2 The Rescue is another, so I'm absolutely pumped to have founder Lou Duggan on this week's show. Cake 2 the Rescue is an Ecommerce brand based on a huge range of really fun and creative cake designs for childrens birthdays and other special events. Basically, you get the whole kit to make the cake and decorate it, and they're all really do-able for non-bakers.  Getting your Product / Customer Fit just right... Lou's been in business for 8 years now and something she's been incredibly successful at is building a really engaged audience of customers and raving fans.  It doesn't take a genius to realise that every business needs an audience if they want to sell something. No audience = no customers. In fact, if you're just getting started in your business, you may find that getting people to notice you and visit your site - it's actually really, really difficult!  Learning exactly who your customer is and what they really need and want - A.K.A getting the ‘product / customer fit' just right - is essential. You may not know this, but the wine company André co-founded, Vinomofo, started as a review site. He'd had this vision to create a wine site where you could go look up a wine and see how REAL people liked it, not critics, just regular wine lovers like André. Of course, that didn’t make any money, so he and Justin eventually launched Vinomofo. Point is, André's thought a lot about customer reviews, the voice of the people. But it was different back then. These days, it's hard to see any value in the ratings on google, or even uber eats, because they’re too generic. You never know whether the people on there giving reviews feel the same way about food as you do. What we need is recommendations from people we trust, people we know like the same kind of stuff as we do. Wouldn’t that be cool? _____________________________________ FOLLOW THE GOOD EMPIRE JOURNEY: • Our Home: https://thegoodempire.com/ • Facebook: facebook.com/thegoodempire/ • Instagram: instagram.com/the.good.empire/ • Linkedin: linkedin.com/company/thegoodempire/ • Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCf9db4cyuO5k0j7SSPgyCHA • Medium: https://medium.com/good-empire

As I’ve been bombarding you about on socials, I’m sure most of you already know I met the inimitable Gary Vaynerchuck last week when he was briefly in Melbourne to launch the epic collaboration between his new company, Empathy Wines, and Aussie wine legends, Vinomofo, thanks to another amazing Seize the Yay guest and Vinomofo founder, Justin Dry. The accolades and achievements since then are too many to list, but most importantly not as relevant to list as you might expect despite him having since founded VaynerMedia as well as investing early in many of the world’s biggest beasts a la Facebook, Snapchat, Venmo etc. Not having been quite sure what to expect, it was so delightful to be met with an incredibly humble, hardworking and honest person focused more on redefining success away from financial metrics and external approval and towards happiness and love – he is definitely seizing his yay and I’m SO grateful he shared some of it on the show. Whether it be surveys, workshops, motivational speakers and off-sites, it is believed that engagement translates to productivity and profit. In this podcast, Mikey explores what’s worked and what hasn’t for Vinomofo, with a focus on what it takes to have your team truly engaged and aligned with the company’s mission. More About The Speaker Mikey is an experienced educator, facilitator and speaker specialising in human behaviour and building revolutionary company culture. “Imagine if we could bring our true, genuine, authentic self to work, to do work that is an expression of our purpose – creating workplaces where this is the norm, that’s what’s exciting to me.” Conversation Notes - Company culture is not something that is defined and upheld by a small group of people – all employees become co-creators of culture - As culture evolves, and we should allow it to do so, it needs certain frameworks and guidelines - Whether it’s defined or not in our mission statement or values, culture is what people ‘feel’ - You need to have a clear set of employees to step back and say: ‘is what we do in alignment with what we’d say we’d do?’ - As employees make the progression into leadership, you have to upskill them to deal with people and processes - Don’t expect people to do what they don’t want to, help them find their unique fit in a cohesive workplace Mikey's Linkedin: Michael Ellis Mikey's Twitter: @mikeyellis13 Quote “The key to a successful company is having the right people in the right time working for the right thing. When I learned about Michael Ellis's (Head of Culture for Vinomofo) background, I couldn't figure out why he was so successful given his background.  This conversation was a deeply personal one for me, as if you had gone back just a few years into my history, I would have told you how I aspired to work with a fast-paced, innovative, and people focused company that was redefining what Culture was in an organisation. That dream would basically have looked exactly what exactly what Mikey has done at Vinomofo. He’s worked with the Founders of Vinomofo to grow it from about 40 staff here in Australia to over 130 staff across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and now expanding into the US Market. They’ve been featured in the Top 25 Great Places to Work 2016 list, received an award for Most Successful Staff Engagement, and have created one of the most sought-after employer brands in Australia (and one of the coolest offices that has a massive wine bar!!). However, a quick look at Mikey’s history shows that prior to his role starting at Vinomofo just 3 years ago, he had pretty much no HR experience or HR education that you would think someone would need, or at least have, to create what he has done now. The funny thing here is that I started my university career, with the idea that if I got an HR degree, and plugged away in the Corporate HR world for 10-15 years, I might be finally in the place to do what he’s done - but obviously that was just the traditional success narrative and this chat is all about exploring Mikey’s journey to get to where he is now and how you can to.   Connect with Mikey on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin.

How'd you get it to market? Why the name Moxie? Does she lobby government over the Tampon Tax? How did she secure distribution in Australia's largest supermarket and pharmacy chains? What has she noticed about the change in consumer buying habits over the years? What's the most effective marketing Moxie does? Why did she launch a subscription model? Mia is a Melbourne based entrepreneur with a passion for social entrepreneurship and women's rights. Her Moxie brand of women's personal care products can be found at Woolworths, Coles, Priceline and Chemist Warehouse. And in an Australian first, Mia recently launched the cheekily named Moxie Box Club, a fully customisable online subscription service for women's personal care products. What Mia has achieved is no mean feat given just how dominated the women's personal care category is by huge global brands with extremely deep pockets. Here's what caught my attention from my chat with Moxie's Mia Klitsas: I love how Mia said she's a big fan of failure. As she said, when confronted with it, you should ask yourself “WHat's the worst thing that could happen?” I couldn't agree more with hyer view that we should all work harder at injecting massive amounts of personality in to your marketing messages. If you want to see how this is done then check out the video at the bottom of Moxie.com.au - it's hilarious. I'm impressed that Mia is so active responding to her tribe on social media. I think the big lesson here is that business owners should get more involved at the coal face with their customers. My guest for episode 64 of The Startup Playbook Podcast is Kate Morris, the Founder and CEO of Adore Beauty, Australia's first e-commerce beauty store. With a lot of today's media attention on the startup industry being focused around raising large funding rounds and successful exits, the challenges, struggle and shear resilience required to even get to that point can often be overlooked. Someone who epitomises the real journey to success is my guest for today's episode, Kate Morris, the Founder and CEO of Adore Beauty. Today the company is a huge success, it has over 190 brands on board, 13,000 products available online and an annual turnover $28M. But the company wasn't always a roaring success. Kate founded the company in 1999 as a 21 year old with just $12,000 to cover all operating costs and She struggled to get buy in from the industry with only 2 little known brands joining Adore Beauty at launch. It took Kate several years to get major brands on board and it wasn't until 10 years into the business that she saw substantial growth in the company. In this interview we talk about the importance of resilience, why you should focus on customer loyalty, the importance of building relationships and how writing a letter to her future self changed Kate's outlook on the business. Justin, along with his brother-in-law Andre, originally started their business as Qwoff, an online wine community, where members rated and reviewed wines. They then produced a web series chronicling their wide road trip across Australia in a combi visiting some of the countries best winemakers. But after several years of trying to make it a viable business through community and content, Justin and Andre pivoted to become a wine deals site, adding commerce to their mix, and so Vinomofo was born. Here we talk with Justin about the journey, and the role innovation has played in taking an idea, executing it, learning, pivoting and the importance of evolving in small business.

Today's episode is a masterclass in successful brand building. Ex-Swiss banker David McQuillen, is the founder of Sufferfest and CSO (that's Chief Suffering Officer) of the mythical country ... Sufferlandria. Bored with conventional ways to get fit on a bike, David taught himself how to edit video, and after negotiating rights with major cycling races (like the Tour de France!), he created his first Sufferfest training video and inflicted it on the world. And the world responded very favourably. So much so that he took it down as quickly as he put it up! You'll find out why shortly. He then had his confidence boosted after being called an assassin, and a sadist, and realising his true calling was to spread agony and misery, David quit his well-paying career, and escaped the cubicle to focus fulltime on building Sufferfest. It's now a multi-million dollar brand run out of his home in Tasmania. Now do not fear, this isn't an episode for middle aged men in lycra! Uh-uh, I think you're gunna love this, as we uncover: The importance of creativity in building a brand people love How to build a tribe of long-term, loyal customers The importance of an authentic brand language Why humour is important in your marketing messages A secret social media strategy ... that doesn't involve you! Marcus Bailey says he's always been a little different. When his mates got jobs in bars while at uni, Marcus got a liquor licence for his bedroom and sold discounted wine (before discounted wine was a thing). This fascination with buying and selling set the foundation for his corporate finance advisory firm, Fortis Ago, which has completed $434 million in Mergers and Acquisitions in the last 18 months. Marcus shares insights into Fortis Ago's work with VinoMofo, a high profile Australian wine marketplace, which included a sale and then buyback. He says M&A is like going to the casino; betting big, sometimes winning and sometimes losing. Dealmakers become "emotionally bipolar" - months are invested into a deal, and there are no guarantees of getting paid until the money is in the bank. For Fortis Ago though, winning has been the only option. Key to the success has been the team's ruthless approach and fierce competitiveness. And also the Adelaide market which Marcus says is, perhaps surprisingly, "plentiful" for M&A work. But working in South Australia has presented massive challenges. Marcus says battling Adelaide's "tall poppy syndrome" has become the norm, and 'success' is now a dirty word. In response, Marcus started the Engine Room, an organisation to support South Australian business owners. Three years later, and not a cent richer, he (and his business partner) launched VinoMofo, an online, in-your-face wine retailer that (in their own words) "...offers a small selection of hand-picked wines and wine-like things ... at very mofo prices."
