Even that language screams stress and burnout."Scripture References:Ecclesiastes 4:5-8 – A biblical framework for balance between work and rest.Genesis 2:2-3 – God's example of Sabbath and its purpose.Takeaway:Rest isn't a timeout—it's a gift from God. Food blogging is an intense job. This year in particular feels extra turbulent for us food bloggers. On top of Google's HCU, I've taken on some new projects (who remembers that food blogging conference in Denver?) and had to part ways with my VA who's worked for the business for many years. So I'd like to share 5 steps I've been taking to get through this turbulent time. In this episode, you'll learn about the importance of slowing down and focusing on things you can control when you feel overwhelmed by changes in your space. And remember, self-care and keeping a positive mindset are more important than ever during turbulent times! Action Plan: 1 - Awareness: Ask yourself, what is the source of turbulence and what is in your control? 2 - Plan: Pull out the top 5-10 things you can do this week to minimize your distress. 3 - Delegate: Assign realistic due dates or people to each point on your list to manage the workload. 4 - Action: Do the things on your list and get accountability from others. 5 - Evaluation: Keep an eye on your list and prioritize self-care - remember even if you regain some control, turbulence can resurface, so it's a continual process. Get in touch with Megan if there is a specific mindset and self-care topics you'd like her to cover. Sales Navigator and Google are two powerful tools in the arsenal of anyone looking to connect with their ideal client on LinkedIn. My guest, Nigel Cliffe, is a LinkedIn trainer who specialises in helping his clients find and grow their target audience on LinkedIn. In this conversation, we're talking about what Sales Navigator and why you would use it, how much dedication it needs, and why Google is a better search engine for finding your ideal clients on LinkedIn. Use LinkedIn's Built-In Algorithm to Find Your Target Audience Update your profile with your keywords Write about what you're known for, including keywords LinkedIn puts your content in front of your target audience Using Sales Navigator Sales Navigator is a tool that lets you collect, navigate, and sort different types of people on LinkedIn. In the right hands, it's a very valuable tool to help grow and connect with your target audience. Nigel Cliffe explains how to use Sales Navigator to find your audience and then have LinkedIn send you new leads who match your criteria each week. However, in order to be an effective tool, Sales Navigator takes serious commitment. Users need to dedicate around two hours every day to using the tool, and they also need to commit to using it regularly. Nigel says it's not a tool that you can just dip your toe into and expect success. Search Engines and LinkedIn According to Nigel, using Google is a more effective way to find your ideal clients on LinkedIn. As a search engine, Google allows you to filter words and phrases with an effectiveness that doesn't exist on LinkedIn. This allows you to finesse your search criteria and find the exact right people in your target audience. From here, Nigel recommends building a list with this data and connecting to your audience on LinkedIn. Google and LinkedIn searches pick up the keywords that exist in someone's LinkedIn profile. Industries, job titles, experience, and other target keywords filtered through profile information and someone's about section all contribute to being effectively discovered on LinkedIn. Full Episode Description: When you're asked your age, how does that make you feel? Do you feel older than your stated age number, or younger? Aging well is healthy aging, whereby you approach the advancing years with vitality and joy, and in good spirits, with faculties intact and in holistic wellness. Is all that even possible? And if so, is it expensive to be on that path? What is a biological age test? Have you ever had one? Simply, it involves taking a sample of your DNA, typically through a cheek swab, to identify how your body has ages on a cellular level. The result is based on both your DNA traits as well as epigenetic or lifestyle choices. Biological tests may not be the most accurate way to test for aging, but they do indicate how much damage has been done to your body's tissues as they have aged. There are a number of factors that can affect how you age. These are categorized as intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors include those that cannot be changed or modified, such as genetics, damage to your DNA, and the structure of your skin's components, collagen and elastin. Extrinsic aging, on the other hand, can be modified. These include the environment or pollution, lifestyle choices, sun exposure, smoking, nutrition, hydration, chronic stress, loack of sleep, and others. Conventional wisdom is such that in order to live a long and healthy life, all of these extrinsic factors must be addressed effectively and consistently. Chris Mirabile believes that living a long and healthy life doesn't have to be so arduous or expensive. He emerged from a serious medical diagnosis with a drive to live a long and healthy life. He shares how to reduce your biological age without intense commitment or breaking your budget. He shares how to reduce your biological age without intense commitment or breaking your budget. Chris is an entrepreneur, Founder, guest speaker, Webby awards honoree, and a problem solver. But, if you were to ask his age, he may probably say that he has a “biological age” of 26. How can that be? According to Wikipedia, “The history of bras (or brassières) is closely tied to the social status of women, the evolution of fashion, and shifting views of the female body over time. Throughout history, women have used various garments to support, cover, restrain, reveal or modify the appearance of their breasts. Artifacts dating back to the 14th century BCE, depict women wearing bikini-like garments. By the 14th century CE, the proto-bra was in development in Europe. From approximately the 16th century CE onward, the corset dominated the undergarments of wealthier women in the Western world. By the early 20th century, garments more closely resembling contemporary bras had emerged, though large-scale commercial production only occurred in the 1930s. By the time the war ended, most fashion-conscious women in Europe and North America were wearing bras. From there, the bra was adopted by women in other parts of the world, including Asia, Africa, and Latin America.” (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_bras) Sydney Ross Singer is a pioneer of applied medical anthropology, and the co-author of the internationally acclaimed book, Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras. According to Wikipedia, “The history of bras (or brassières) is closely tied to the social status of women, the evolution of fashion, and shifting views of the female body over time. On behalf of the Accounting Influencers Podcast Network, this is the "Best Practice in Accounting" show, going live every Thursday. For our regular listeners, the original name Accounting Influencers has now moved from 'one show with 6 episodes a week' to 'five shows a week, 1 episode a day'. In this show, we focus on upskilling the accountants, bookkeepers, CPAs and commercially focused fintech vendors to better handle key challenges in their professional role like client service, closing deals, negotiating, pricing, hiring, reputation and differentiation. It's all about developing yourself and your practice with real life examples, stories and case studies of what really works. Episode 13. In today's interview, "Best Practice for the Accounting Annual Review." Key takeaways from this episode include: ☑ why many accounting firms don't really offer all the things their website says they do ☑ the difference between annual reviews and year end tax meetings for accountants ☑ what questions a conscientious accountant should be asking a client as part of an annual review ☑ the marketing and business development benefits for accountants of doing annual reviews ☑ what's wrong with the excuse from accountants "I don't have time to do annual reviews for clients" ☑ what is lacking from some accountants in so-called annual client reviews ☑ what some accountants miss in serving clients by not doing the simple and basic things very well ☑ two questions an accountant or CPA can ask their clients to turn a good annual review a great one ☑ good responses to annual review questions that can create more opportunities for accountants to serve their clients Action - Do annual reviews for your clients. If you already do them, do them better by incorporating some of the approaches and questions in this episode. In this show we cover topics like leadership, trust, performance, differentiation, employer brand, values, vision, strategy, talent, skills development, industry trends, growth, marketing, communication, succession, recruitment, retention, culture, M&A, business models, pricing, digitisation, winning clients, advisory, career development, gen z/millennials, ESG, DEI, CSR, CPE/CPD, professionalism and future proofing. It's important that you stay ahead of the game by knowing the drivers of change and disruption in accounting, the behaviours/demands of businesses requiring pivots/services from accountants, the strategies of tech/software vendors in serving CPAs and accountants, the directives, thoughts and influence of regulatory bodies, professional associations and accounting institutes, and the themes, agendas and topics being talked about at accounting and fintech events all over the world. Two caveats for listeners: First, what we're giving you in this podcast are suggestions, hints, tips and strategies. Not necessarily recommendations, not legally binding, not mandated by regulatory bodies. just the thoughts, opinions and interpretations of a couple of guys with a collective 45 years of experience working with, speaking to and and training many accounting practices, vendors, networks, associations, alliances and event audiences. Second, we're not getting too technical or technological with these best practice tips. We're not qualified accountants and there are plenty of sources for technical knowledge. We're also not geeky, nerdy or product focused with the bewildering array of apps, platforms and technological solutions. We're more soft skills, personal development, general business awareness, developing entrepreneurial thinking, boosting leadership and management capability. Let's not forget what a complex, fast moving and rapidly changing world we live in. Best practice is hard to put your finger on. What worked last week, last year may not work now. Advisors and accounting professionals must constantly reinvent themselves as experts and trusted guides to individuals and business owners in a complex world....

On this episode we welcome in an incredible leader, Bridget Hughes. Bridget is a Performance Manager at Future, and is an innovator in that she was actually one of the first coaches to work remote. Being one of the first 10 coaches at Future, she was ultimately a case study that opened the doors of opportunity for coaches to follow.Bridget shares her keys to leadership; meeting people where they are at and speaking their language, building relationships to allow for direct honesty, and allowing space to fail, learn and be creative as there is no one path to a successful outcome. She also shares her mindset of deliberately doing something every day that scares her, and shifting from the thought process of 'why me' to 'why NOT me' when presented with feelings of imposter syndrome.Action: Do something today that forces you outside your comfort zone!------------------------Hosts: Bradley Baker & Josh BonhotalGuest: Bridget HughesFuture

Confidence. You can't buy it. You aren't born with it. You create it through action. Join the Bad Bitch Academy: https://www.melissaronda.com/academy Feeling confident and thinking confident thoughts comes through taking action. But if you need to feel confident to take action where do you start? Well, here is how the women in the Bad Bitch Academy will be doing it with my signature system that crafts confident sexy AF Bad Bitches: 1. Uncovering Motives: You can’t desire change in order to seek approval of someone else or “be” better than someone else AND become confident. Doing so breeds more insecurity. There is no such thing as a “revenge body” just fit people who still feel unworthy. 2. Clear benefits: We don’t do shit unless we are getting something out of it and it has to be more beneficial than staying the same. It has to be sexy. It has to be “speaking our love language” and it needs to feel so real you can almost taste it. THIS kind of coaching is a motherfucking art and one that Academy members praise me for. It’s my gift. 3. Action: Do it despite. Do it consistently. Do it with support. Do it with intention. Do it. 4. Rewrite Negative Thought Patterns: What stories pop up? You know.... “I don’t have time” “it’s too hard” “I’m scared”. Identify these lies from the devil and dispel those myths. Done. No more someday. No more regret. No more settling. Just confident women who did despite.

We are continuing our conversation this week around sexual orientation and the church with B.T. Harman. B.T. is the creator and author of the website Blue Babies Pink: A Southern Coming Out Story in 44 episodes. First as a blog, and then later in podcast form, BBP details B.T.'s story as a young man growing up in the church and coming to terms with his sexual orientation as a gay man. B.T. is a freelance content-creator for millennials and the brands that serve them. His consulting work focuses on brand strategy, design, marketing, social media, leadership, and more. B.T. and Colleen chat about how he went from denying his orientation, to a commitment to celibacy to finally taking an affirming stance and getting married himself. They also discuss whether this is an issue in which faithful Christians can disagree and how you can love and support affirming brothers and sisters whether or not you agree with them. Connect with B.T. Listen to the Blue Babies Pink podcast or read the blog. You can also find B.T. on his website or follow him on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. He's a great follow! Year of Action Do, as B.T. says, the work on this issue. Regardless of where you stand on the issue of sexual orientation in the church, whether you are affirming of gay marriage or not, seek out the story of a gay christian. Seek out many stories, as it is all deeply personal and nuanced. Suspend your opinion on the issue and seek out the story of someone who maybe falls on the opposite side of you theologically. Try to understand where they are coming from and the path they've walked. As BT said, do everything you possibly can to empathize from a human connection. Also discussed in the episode: The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott
Welcome to Episode 2 of Strokecast. This week -- it's all in my head and new standards for tpA. It's All in my Head! Normally, when someone says that something is, "all in your head," they mean it derisively. They mean you're making it up. When it comes to my stroke though, the problem literally (yes, literally) is all in my head. So let's explore this concept in a little more depth. To begin with: What is a stroke? There are two main types of CVA, or cerebrovascular accident (the official name for a stroke). They are ischemic and hemorrhagic. My stroke was ischemic. That means a blood clot formed in one of the blood vessel in my brain and blocked the flow of blood to part of my brain. In a hemorrhagic stroke, a blood vessel in the brain leaks or bursts. Blood escapes the circulatory system and starts pouring over neurons and into the critical space between brain cells. Blood is great for the brain when it stays in the circulatory system and flows through it bringing nutrients and oxygen to the cells of the brain. When it's outside the blood vessels, it's poison for the cells. Or if it just doesn't flow, the cells can't get oxygen. Regardless of the type of stroke, when the blood flow in the brain breaks, neurons, or nerve cells, die. The longer it goes on, the more cells can die and the more function a stroke survivor loses. A stroke gets worse as it goes on. The interesting thing, though, is that the problem is all in my head. There's nothing wrong with my arm. There's nothing wrong with my leg. My brain just can't communicate well with them. The point of occupational therapy and physical therapy isn't to fix the limbs. The point is to teach the brain to control the limbs again. The connection my brain use to have to my limbs is now just a chunk of scar tissue in my brain. So now my brain has to repurpose neurons and grow new ones to make that connection again. Thanks to neuroplasticity, this is possible. Of course, the longer recovery takes, the more problems can develop outside my head, including: Shoulder subluxation Knee hyperextension Muscle atrophy Circulation issues Falls Sedentary lifestyle Dietary changes Sleep is more important than ever. The brain of a stroke survivor is working harder than ever to work around the damaged section. It burns a ton of energy. That's one reason fatigue is such a common issue for stroke survivor. All the activities of life take a lot more effort than before, and the brain is burning a lot more energy to try to make things right. A stroke survivor naps and sleeps more not because they are lazy, but because they are working harder than at any time in their life. tpA and Thrombectomy Updates New guidelines from the American Heart Association expand the window for medical intervention in the event of an ischemic stroke. Previously, treatment could only be made available within 4-6 hours of the onset of stroke symptoms. That means if you woke up in the morning with stroke symptoms (like I did), clot removal was not an option. Under the new standards, mechanical or medicinal clot removal may be an option up to 24 hours after the onset of a stroke. You can learn more from the American Heart Association here. Obviously, your personal medical team's recommendations should trump anything you read on the internet. Hack of the Week Getting stuff out of the refrigerator can be tough when you have only one functional hand and mobility challenges. I found the door kept trying to close on my head. Then I figured out a trick: I open the vegetable draw. This props open the door so I can search through the shelves at my leisure. Call to Action Do you have any thoughts on this episode? While CEB states that almost two-thirds of the buying decision is already made before a prospect ever makes contact with a sales team, prospects do not stop their research at that moment. Client acquisition used to be a relay race. Marketing captured the lead and then nurtured the lead part of the way. Then, Sales ran the rest of the race by themselves. The two did not need to communicate to win, they just needed to hand off the baton properly. But today, it’s a three-legged race with Sales and Marketing’s legs tied together. In the three-legged race, the prospect receives stimuli from both Marketing and Sales throughout the buying process. In order to win, a firm must have two partners with clear shared goals, a defined process, and open continuous communication.” – Chris Handy, Founder & CEO, Thinkhandy: http://www.thinkhandy.com/ Action: think about how you can make your process better… Shot 5: General Tip of the Week Instagram tips: http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/instagram-features-tricks Action: Look and see if you can make changes that help your Instagram Shot 6: State of Inbound Item of the Week New HubSpot Research Hub: http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/hubspot-research-hub http://research.hubspot.com/ http://research.hubspot.com/reports/native-advertising-rises-as-consumers-opt-out Why people unsubscribe from emails: Why people unsubscribe from emails Action: Review the emails you are sending out.
