On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Alex from Lunar, a band with a unique sound that blends different genres. Pipeman praises the latest tune by Lunar, highlighting its amazing musicianship, and shares his perception that the band's music sounds like a combination of heavy metal, thrash, death metal, and hair metal. Alex agrees and mentions that the band strives to have a good balance of eclectic genres, which is possible because the band members have different musical influences. The band members' musical tastes and experiences come from different subgenres, such as power metal, funk, and tribute bands. This eclectic mix of influences adds a unique sound to their music. Pipeman shares his impression of Lunar's song, Juggling Chainsaws, where he felt surprised every 30 seconds. Alex explains that the album, in particular, keeps listeners guessing while staying coherent throughout, taking them on a journey, and making them want to see it through to the end. Pipeman then talks about Lunar's second album and asks Alex to share more about the song's sad themes. Alex clarifies that the previous album, Ilon, was written about the death of Ryan Irwin, the band's friend and co-founder. This album is about the grieving process and coping with his loss. In contrast, the current album has a story about a character called the illusionist, whose journey reflects mental health struggles, similar to what the band experienced with Ryan's passing. Alex agrees that music is the best therapy and that it helps people cope with mental illness. You can find Lunar on all the socials under Lunar Band Official like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You can find all the merch over at lunarbandofficial.bandcamp.com, which really helps support the band, as well as buying the music, so please consider supporting them if you like what you hear. Prolific death metal drummer and multi-instrumentalist Hannes Grossmann is our guest! We discuss the recruitment process for his latest solo album, To Where The Light Retreats, the role he takes on as composer for his own material, how Tori Amos inspired a song on the new record, the story behind the hand-drawn cover artwork, how the songs on his first solo album were originally intended for Obscura, the less experimental nature of his solo project compared to Alkaloid, and the elitist mentality he takes towards his own music. Hannes also says he hopes there will never be another Necrophagist record and explains why. Petar, Brandon, and Jozalyn discuss Wes Borland's statement on Fred Durst's high standards for the next Limp Bizkit record, the official reunion of Shadows Fall, and our thoughts on the next NWOAHM bands to reunite. Thank you to our sponsor, Metal Blade Records, for their continued support! Songs: Hannes Grossmann - “The Great Designer" and “In The Glacier's Eye”

Anyone familiar with Epitaph era Necrophagist or Obscura or Alkaloid, to name a few, will undoubtedly be familiar with Hannes Grossmann as he was an integral driving force behind all of it. Beyond drumming, he's also a sound engineer and producer with a long list of credits under his belt. As if all that wasn't enough, we're on the eve of his fourth solo album, To Where the Light Retreats, which promises to be as technical and heavy as anything he's ever been a part of. Our maestro of the mic, Buke, chats with Hannes about the new album and what to expect, the different mindsets of drumming for his solo work and for other bands as well as the various mindsets that prepare him for producing music, his early days in drumming and how his fascinations and heroes paved the way, and a very long standing relationship with TAMA drums. They also cover how different drummers leave their own unique fingerprints on the music they make, plenty of shop talk, and a huge back and forth on Hi-Fi and headphones. This is a great discussion with plenty of nuggets all along Hannes' career, jump in and enjoy!9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

Alkaloid-containing plants have been used by humans since ancient times for therapeutic and recreational purposes. For example, medicinal plants have been known in the Mesopotamia at least around 2000 BC. The Odyssey of Homer referred to a gift given to Helen by the Egyptian queen, a drug bringing oblivion. It is believed that the gift was an opium-containing drug.[28] A Chinese book on houseplants written in 1st–3rd centuries BC mentioned a medical use of Ephedra and opium poppies.[29] Also, coca leaves have been used by South American Indians since ancient times In 1929, while an instructor at Howard University, Julian received a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship to continue his graduate work at the University of Vienna, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1931. He studied under Ernst Späth and was considered an impressive student. In Europe, he found freedom from the racial prejudices that had stifled him in the States. He freely participated in intellectual social gatherings, went to the opera and found greater acceptance among his peers. I walked by Amanda at the Terminus Festival back in June and said “I know you”. Turns out I had seen her with someone who works at Alkaloid, the wonderful co-working space that I work from. We had a brief chat about her most recent short film project and that led me to ask for […] The post Amanda Avery appeared first on The Atlanta Podcast.

So, you all may have seen the absolute unbridled rage against Allegaeon's Patreon from last week. I thought this was pretty unfounded and ridiculous, so I invited Riley McShane of Allegaeon to talk about how he views this situation, and whether some of the accusations made in the articles are founded or not. We ended up having a great chat about the band's situation and crowd funding. I recommend listening to this one, regardless of what you think about the situation! Then Eden and I talk about news and stuff. The new Metallica song, the new Shokran video, the upcoming Soen album, the new Thy Catafalque album, the new Disillusion video, the new... I got tired of going "the new X". Instead, listen to this really dumb but amazing mashup of the Space Jam tune with the new Meshuggah album by Analog Staple. Oh, also, Dominic Forrest Lapointe joined First Fragment. Balance Interruption is an awesome saxed-up black metal thing. Alkaloid are on Season of Mist, officially making it the best label ever. Facebook added integration with some music services. Our underrated album of the week is Rad a Trest by !T.O.O.H! - I wrote about them years ago. Then we talk about how song order is a really hard thing to pick.

Weiterlesen »

Drummer Hannes Grossmann of Alkaloid (Ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist) guests this week. We talk about the differences between being a session drummer and a band member, how to admit you wrote something that sucks, how playing fast is no excuse for bad songwriting, why he left Obscura and when the Necrophagist record will be coming out. Chuck and Godless were consumed by SXSW this week but they still found the time to get some discussion topics together. Can Slipknot live forever? They discuss if bands should keep going without original members of the band or if the personnel are too critical to a band's identity. They also declare a winner for SXSW and it was not a headliner of any showcase, but rather something more special. Songs:Alkaloid - "Cthulhu"Fallujah - "Allure"
