When you think of true Rock Royalty, there's one name that comes to mind: Freddie Mercury - the man, the myth, the mustache. As the flamboyant frontman of Queen, he was a shooting star leaping through the sky, defying the laws of gravity and having a ball. But tragically, he would burn out far too soon. In this special 2 part episode, we'll be exploring the real life of a Musical Champion and the terrible circumstances that led to his death on a quiet Sunday afternoon in 1991. If you're looking for a feel-good fantasy, go watch the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody.” This podcast may not be your bag. For the rest of you, grab your crown, raise your mic stand and get ready for a Killer time. In this first chapter, we cover Freddie's rise to the top of the Pops as the King of Queen. The band's worldwide success brought him fame and fortune and everything that goes with it. And by the end of the 1970s, his life revolved around sex, drugs and rock n roll. A continuación Another One Bites The Dust interpretada por Queen.

Another One Bites The Dust. No existía vídeo de las canciones "Another One Bites The Dust", "Looks Like It's Gonna Be A Good Night", "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care" y "Hello Mary Lou". D-Sides, Orphans, and Oddities

Do you like the band Queen?    I do:  For good or bad, they maximized the potential of the modern recording studio with repeated vocal passes until the magnetic tape was almost transparent, pushing the envelope literally to the breaking point. They never EVER limited themselves to one style. One need only listen to the first four tracks of “A Night at the Opera”. From almost prog changes in “Death on Two Legs” to the underrated, brave, funny, and effortless whimsy of “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon” to Roger Taylor’s best Queen song, “I’m In Love With My Car” to the light, breezy but taut pop masterpiece “You’re My Best Friend”. I didn’t even mention what would come on Side Two.  No Band Rocked Harder. Go back and listen to “Tie Your Mother Down” or “Killer Queen” (my first Queen record) and they effortlessly mastered style after style. And surprisingly, in the time of Glam, they weren’t Glam. Sure, they looked it. But looks were part of the contradiction.  Freddie Mercury never took himself too seriously. We all knew he was gay, but we didn’t care. In 1975, Elton John was flamboyant, but Freddie was gay. And the reason it never hurt him was because he didn’t care, at all, about what we thought of that. Think about how many gay pop singers had come out before that. Besides John Lennon, I mean.  Hits, hits, more hits. All styles. You just never knew what was going to come out of that radio. Every member wrote and every member wrote hits (in England, anyhow). And those hits were big, never cheap, never gimmicky.  They had a joy and a sense of daring that no one since The Beatles had tried. I cannot emphasise enough how many chances they took. Some, like “Mustapha”, didn’t land, but some most assuredly did.  I will also add that no member released anything remotely approaching solo success or artistic transcendance. I think this speaks to an overall undefinable chemistry. For a band, this is a GOOD THING.  I don’t:  Queen had the pretension to put the words, “No synths!” in their liner notes. Isn’t multi-tracking guitars until you gag pretty much the same thing? And making your vocal arrangements dense and multi-tracked to the point of sounding like a chorale, to me, was the same cheat.  I said no band rocked harder. But they were severely limited by their drummer. They couldn’t swing. Cheap Trick, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles...they could swing. I never heard a Hammond organ on a Queen record or soul of any kind. Or real emotion except for rage, lust, and occasional whimsy. There was nothing...whiter...than a Queen album.  Roger Taylor should not have been allowed to put his own songs on Queen albums. Those songs were all pretty much dreck, sounding like the opposite of the good things about Queen. They sounded like studio jam sessions. I never liked a single one. His boring solo records bear this out.  Queen is the bonafide best example of “live album as placeholder”. By no means were they the only ones. But if you’re the hottest band in the world (and would continue your run) why break your momentum with one of the worst, most lifeless live albums of the ‘70? It could only be as a money grab. This is a theme with Queen. In fact, by the end, Queen, like Journey, became a money-making Queen tribute band. I HATED HATED HATED that movie. We’ll never truly know how it went down since Roger Taylor and Brian May had control of the way the story was told. But as an amateur movie critic, I would have really liked a bio that discussed the band less and just focused on Freddie’s amazing life, warts and all. That IS the remaining member’s fault. Reinventing the history, even of a band, does a disservice to Freddie Mercury. I think by now we can handle the dissonance and contradictions. “The Game”, from 1980 was their only #1 album in the US. None of their subsequent albums reached even the Top 20. Sales don’t necessarily reflect quality, but I can assure you, young reader, in this case, the dearth of subsequent sales tells the story. Queen was decidedly on the downswing in America. Queen had 2 #1 songs in the US. Both from “The Game”. And “The Game” was their sole #1 album on Billboard. Ironically, it was the first album on which they DID use synths. “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” were both departures. Almost parodies of styles derived from Black music.  This podcast is all Queen but very little...QUEEN. Every member is represented (including Paul Rodgers, but only one Bad Company song) but like I said, Queen was an unidentifiable mix of talents, and not only that, their chemistry was never duplicated...by them, anyhow. Queen’s trajectory was closer to The Doors than The Beatles in that every one of their albums had some pretty bad songs to go with the ringers.  I saw them for the “Jazz” tour, Buffalo, NY. 1979. They were ok.  So...I like Queen. For their constant bravery, which cannot be faked. For their daring use of harmony. For their very underrated bassist John Deacon. And because, like The Doors, those singles were like nothing before or since. Who would dare?  Man Friday & Jive Junior - Picking Up Sounds (1983) Man Friday is a former member of Funkapolitan who did this one 45 with John Deacon, which was produced by Wham! guitarist Robert Ahwai. Queen - Fun It (1979) A precursor to "Another One Bites The Dust", no? Freddie Mercury - In My Defence (1986) From Wikipedia: Dave Clark...wrote a science fiction stage musical, Time, which debuted in 1986. It played for two years in London's West End, starring Cliff Richard (replaced later by David Cassidy). Few could have foreseen a rock group with a penchant for glam-inflected, genre-bending, often progressive songs striking it big during the disco era, but famed UK rockers Queen did just that in 1980. "Another One Bites The Dust" took Freddie Mercury and company's signature sound, and adapted it into a funky, club-friendly style that earned the group their biggest commercial success in America, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for three weeks, and making a chart hit out of The Game, the record it was attached to.Spurred on by this achievement, and hyper-focused on maintaining this newfound pop clout in the US, Queen responded to The Game's reaction by doubling down on the disco focus of "Another One Bites The Dust". 1982's Hot Space was the result, a record which traded the band's hard, operatic guitar rockers for electronic dance numbers with synthesized arrangements, which took heavy inspiration from the disco group Chic. Though Hot Space rendered a top 20 hit in the US, and contained one of the band's most enduring songs (Tacked on as a last-minute addition from a previous single release) it was widely panned by critics and fans, and would be the last major commercial success Queen had in America before Mercury's passing. On the latest episode of Jukebox Zeroes, Lilz & Patrick welcome back Ashleigh and Maggie of the Rock Candy Podcast. The four of them dig into Hot Space and decide for themselves if it was deserving of the negative reception so many decades later. Another One Bites The Dust on The 'X' Zone Radio/TV Show - Bigfoot Author Turns Out To Be A Pile of Bigfoot Scat!Tonight's second guest was Bill Sheehan, an author of Bigfoot reports. No he has never seen a Bigfoot, he has never been on a Bigfoot research expedition, nor has he researched the stories of Bigfoot that people submit to him for his books. It is evident from the name of his website, that he only has one goal - buybigfootbooks.com.Here is another example of a person who tries to use our show to selfishly promote their books and doesn't expect to have to answer questions about the contents of the book or his credibility. He is in fact an armchair collector of Bigfoot stories. There are credible people out there who actually go into the woods, spend time investigating, money on their own equipment and do so with the intention of proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bigfoot is indeed real. I respect them when the come on the show and share their personal experiences. With 5 minutes left in the interview, he did something that proved what he was all about. He hung up.Well, I guess the heat in the proverbial kitchen was too hot for him to handle so he took the easy way out and did the cowardly thing and hung up.

Rather than throwing shade, Criticizing the C Class, or telling you how we are better, still around. We are taking this EP to self reflect and think about what we can learn from 5 local businesses that this year shut their doors. This is important, this applies to you, I am not smarter than any of these entrepreneurs and neither are you. Be sure to learn from all your mistakes…. even better, learn from others mistakes.   The Empowered People Podcast is hosted in Kansas City by the Founder of Empowered Electric, Josh Levin. Episode 74- Comfort Zone? Not Really But Trying - Eating Better - QUEEN - Very Exciting ;) Hello...I am here. “Are you ready, are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?” Another One Bites The Dust by Queen In this episode I talk about a lot of things. My discomfort about getting out of my comfort zone, and living In the now. Yes. I talk about Winnie a bit and how we all have to change to be able to grow. My change in my eating habits and, of course, Queen.  Then there’s you know what...the Bohemian Rhapsody movie official coming out celebration earlier this week on Carneby Street in London. And guess what? I snagged a ticket for next Thursday night at my nearby theater. Woot-Woot! A trivia contest and more. This is the one you don’t want to miss. Go get yourself a cup of hot tea with milk (like the English do) and some tea cookies.  Let’s Do This! In this first Podcast of “Am I Crazy or Am I Just Raving”, Thom and Andrew look at how and why Henry’s Child got back together after 17 years. Andrew talks briefly about the bands in between the original incarnation of Henry’s Child and the reunion show in 2014. He then tells the story: Inspired by the Soundgarden record “King Animal”, Rich and Andrew got the fire back to play heavy music again. This birthed “Mnemonic Machines”, with Quinn & Kris Cardwell (formerly of “The Ineffectuals”), Rich Clinton, Andrew Smith and Thom Tessandori. Greg Gillespie (of “Hyding Jekyll”) offered Mnemonic Machines a really great show right at the time that band dissipated. In order to fill a slot at the WOW Hall, with less than 4 weeks rehearsal time, Henry’s Child got back together and learned some fan-requested songs. Andrew got inspired by seeing teenagers singing along with songs from the “Mumbles and Screams” record - originally released in 1995. This is when Henry’s Child, as it’s true collective, chose to keep playing shows until people stop showing up. Andrew tells the “drunk guy” story and how the impact of music stays with you, creating those truly frozen moments. This speaks directly to the presence and the power of music. Andrew also recounts his first memory of singing into the mirror and how Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” lead him down a path of greater appreciation of music.
