As the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus observed, “The only constant in life is change.” While change in our personal and professional lives is inevitable, adapting to it can be difficult and often leads to feelings of resistance. When it comes to organizational change initiatives, the ADKAR® model – which stands for Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement – is renowned for guiding successful change, beginning at the individual level.  As a senior fellow at Prosci, the leading global change management research and training organization that developed the ADKAR model, Karen Ball has been helping individuals and organizations implement effective changes and achieve benefits not thought possible for over 40 years. Karen is an ACMP-certified Change Management Professional, a certified IDEO Design Thinking practitioner, and the author of Prosci's latest publication, “The ADKAR Advantage: Your New Lens for Successful Change.” In addition to her role as an executive instructor, Karen continues to develop Prosci offerings and engage with clients as a change advisor, working with organizations such as UNICEF, Wells Fargo, Bose Corporation, and Dow Chemical. In Episode 228 of The Mindset Game® podcast, Karen shares the following:  An overview of the ADKAR model and examples of how it might manifest in different contexts, as well as how it relates to the communication and training processes involved in organizational change initiatives Tips for individuals who may be resistant to proposed changes, as well as techniques their leaders can use to support them How ADKAR functions as a sense-making and way-finding tool that can help create a sense of calm and clarity for both individuals and organizations navigating complex change Why it's crucial for leaders to go through their own ADKAR journeys, as well as key steps that leaders must take in order to be effective sponsors of change   To connect with Karen, find her on LinkedIn, or visit https://www.prosci.com to learn more about the ADKAR model and explore other resources. Most of us are well aware of the supply chain shortages, both within our industry and well beyond. Some of us are also keenly aware of labor shortages. This show is all about reliability of circuit assemblies. While reliability is often referred to as a process, it is also rooted in culture.Reliability begins with people. So, instead of talking about common reliability, subjects, such as voiding, soldering materials, assembly, best practices, and the plethora of other usual suspect topics, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about people. After all, as I said, reliability begins with people. My guest today is Dr. John Mitchell. Many of you know John as the president and CEO of IPC, one of our industries largest trade associations. John has recently written a book, entitled fire your hiring habits. I have to admit, the title is quite intriguing. Here's a little background on John. Since 2012, Dr. John Mitchell has served as president and CEO of IPC, a not-for-profit trade association driving competitive advantage for more than 3,000 companies across the globe. Leading the global operations and staff, John manages the creation and execution of the Board of Director's goals.Under his leadership, IPC has essentially doubled the total company membership globally as well increased the acceptance of standards by over 50 percent. John led the charge for IPC's Online Certification Portal and the company's overhaul of it Member Success department. His efforts served to improve relations with members and helped move the needle on positive regulatory change.Prior to IPC, John was an engineer with General Electric Aerospace and was a founding member of Alpine Electronic's research company—which pioneered modern navigation systems in the U.S. OEM market. John himself holds a patent in GPS navigation systems. John then served as general manager/director of the largest product development initiative in Bose Corporation's history. He went on to become CEO of Golden Key International Society, the noted collegiate honor society serving over two-million members.John earned his doctorate in higher education management from University of Georgia's Institute of Higher Education, a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of Science in electrical and computer engineering from Brigham Young University. In addition to his work with IPC, John is an in-demand speaker and the author of two books so far (sounds like more books may be in the works… I need to ask him about that!).Fire Your Hiring Habits is available at most book sellers including Amazon:https://tinyurl.com/fire-your-hiring-habits

He has done “rights of passage” work in prisons, with military veterans, and with inspired civilians. He even spent years of his life fostering, training and rehabilitating Pit Bulls. Among these are financial, social, and personal reasons, but are there more? Dr. Katherine Sternasty has done much of her work and research on the accessibility of hearing aids. She has come up against the same barriers time and time again and has studied how to circumvent them. Now, she offers her perspective and findings with you. In this episode of the ListenUp! Welcome to the fourth installment of the Hospitality Resilience Series . Jonathan Humphries , Chris Mumford and Jon Hazan are joined by Yadid Ayzenberg, Global head of Sleep devices and Director at BOSE Corporation . In this session on The Future of Sleep, Yadid introduces us to the importance of sleep and its effects on our health and performance in the short and long term. A person needs to have a good sleep cycle in order to be optimally productive. Whether you can train your body and mind to need less sleep is but a myth. So many misconceptions exist around sleep but here's what you need to do to develop good habits and get a better night's sleep. Yadid also introduces us to the Sleepbuds II: Bose's new wireless earbuds that deliver relaxing sounds to help you fall asleep and use Bose noise-masking technology to keep you asleep. Nowadays, the hospitality sector is enduring huge adversity and is faced with a long challenging road ahead. This environment is placing new burdens and strains on leadership and bringing the need for personal resilience and inner immunity into sharp focus. Sleep is one of the pillars of resilience we decided to look into. It is defined as a dynamic activity and in order to fully understand the brain, we need to first understand sleep and its effect on the body and mind. Also, Sleep is the hospitality sector's main product offering and the industry would benefit greatly from understanding it. In this episode of the IoT For All Podcast, John Gordon, President of the Commercial IoT business unit at Lenovo, joins us to talk about IoT’s role in the new normal - specifically, in enabling employees to safely return to work.John joined Lenovo in 2019 and is responsible for driving innovation across the company as a whole. He has more than 20 years of experience in strategic digital transformation and, as the former head of Consumer Electronics at Bose Corporation, he launched the world’s first audio augmented reality platform.John joined Lenovo in order to play a role in maximizing the potential of IoT, but said part of what made his role at Lenovo so attractive was the dedication to creating real-world solutions today, instead of getting stuck on what IoT can be. “Frankly,” John said, “we’re probably deployed at one percent of what IoT’s potential really is.”Lenovo takes a different approach to creating solutions in the IoT space. Rather than building custom solutions, Lenovo empowers companies to scale using existing components and solutions. “If you get it from Lenovo, the whole thing is turnkey - we validate the whole thing, we install it for you, and we monitor it to make sure it’s working. You don’t have to go through and piece stuff together yourself,” John said.John said that, before COVID, their focus was on optimizing the number of people that companies could get into a workspace. But now, the challenge is bringing people back in safely. John said that, as technologists, their role was creating a framework that would enable companies to improve the safety for returning employees.Phase 1 - How do you control who gets into the building? John said that this could mean measuring and monitoring the temperatures of people entering the workspace or ensuring that the space remains at a safe capacity.Phase 2 - How do you manage behavior once they’re in the space? That could mean encouraging employees to maintain safe social distancing practices and wash their hands.Phase 3 - When there’s an incident, how do you respond? “No one was planning to do this,” John said, “the timing of when all of this stuff happens, it has to happen pretty quickly.”John also spoke to the ROI companies hope to achieve through the use of these solutions. For some, the ROI is pretty clear - many manufacturers can’t operate without people in the building. So anything that gets them up and running again is going to be worth the investment. But for other companies, they can save on cost and improve the morale of their employees by automating processes that previously required employees’ dedicated attention. Jobs like standing at the door of a retail store and counting the people going in and out or security guards who monitor spaces to ensure that employees are far enough apart. “That’s the kind of crappy job that has to be done,” John said, “but is perfect for technology.”Changing gears, John spoke to us about a survey that Lenovo conducted on the return to work for many employees in North America. One of the key findings was that 88 percent of employees expected employers to make the workplace safe using technology.John spoke to the opportunity that this meant for IoT. “This is our opportunity to help our colleagues, our customers, and our families make the world a bit safer.” And in proving that we can roll out IoT at scale, John said that we get closer to the other life-changing innovations IoT has promised for so many years. To close out the interview, John shared with us some of the challenges he sees companies face as they begin to return to work. And his biggest piece of advice for companies looking to adjust to the new normal: start now.Interested in connecting with John? Reach out to him on Linkedin!About Lenovo: Lenovo recently announced IoT solutions for businesses returning to work after the coronavirus pandemic – ThinkIoT Back to Work Solutions. Lenovo has assembled an ecosystem of IoT solutions to help make it easier for customers to get back to work in offices without dealing with the hassle traditionally encountered in IoT projects. To that extent, Lenovo validates, deploys, and manages these end-to-end solutions globally in a set of turnkey offerings, especially important for large businesses with distributed locations. These are the first solutions from Lenovo’s Commercial Internet of Things Business Group, established in 2019 to help drive the company’s service-led transformation.Key Questions and Topics from this Episode:(01:02) Introduction to John(03:09) Introduction to Lenovo(04:57) What does a typical customer engagement look like for your team?(08:25) What are some specific use cases in the smart building and retail spaces, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic?(10:19) How does the development process for solutions like these work?(11:58) How are companies measuring the ROI of these projects, since it’s all so new?(14:32) What shifts have you seen in companies’ focus as far as IoT projects go post-COVID?(16:36) Can you speak to the survey Lenovo conducted recently?(20:48) What are some of the biggest changes companies are going to have to make to adjust to this new normal?(22:02) What advice do you have for organizations realizing that they need to get started on their digital transformation?  The IMC Club’s purpose is to promote instrument flying, proficiency, and safety. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share information, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency in instrument flying. IMC Club chapters offer monthly meetings in which pilots can network and share knowledge and experiences. The chapter resources and scenarios are being produced and distributed as a new program by EAA IMC LLC (“EAA IMC”), an Experimental Aircraft Association Inc. subsidiary, under a license from IMC Club International Inc. This will provide resources for new and improved program offerings that will enhance and expand the impact of the IMC concept. To provide continuity, support, direction, and programming, Radek is now the manager of flight proficiency with EAA IMC. Being part of the EAA family will provide the network, critical mass, and resources to take flight safety and proficiency to the next level.  EAA IMC Club is presented by Bose Corporation and supported by Jeppesen. In the meetings, a scenario is given, nothing is artificial, the scenarios really happened! What would you do? Hangar Flying… What do you think of it? I’m kinda mixed. On one hand, it’s a lot of fun to shoot the breeze about stuff you may (or may not’ve) done. But let’s face it. It’s often times just a bunch of poorly told stories with a loose plot, that ultimately culminates in one of those endings about how it used to be, or worse yet, a completely lucky twist of fate that probably should’ve ended worse, but didn’t, and now we have this gem of a story circulating around, that makes you wonder how the storyteller is still employed, or alive… And don’t get me wrong, I’m the first person who loves a good story, aviation or not, obviously. But I feel like they should go somewhere. And maybe even help somebody. Or at least, not make our airspace system a sketchy place to be. I’m Brandon Gonzales, This is Podcasting on a Plane, and this is YOUR aviation audio magazine, where we hit aviation from as many angles as possible, my favorite two are from the cockpit, and from the tower. And that’s because I’m an Air Traffic Tower Controller and a pilot and CFI too, you know the rest.  And our stories take place in a mythical, but actually quite real place often referred to as West Coast Delta. And here in the Delta, we share stories, news, and experiences that will help you love aviation even more. Maybe even make you better… OR to steal the tag line of today’s topic, Smarter, safer, and Ready for anything. Don’t Go away… Support: https://www.patreon.com/podcastingonaplaneBuy me a coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/BravoGolfYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx1DKOUuGxohHU5YxEC_w0w?view_as=subscriberInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/podcastingonaplane/Twitter: podcastonaplaneWebsite: www.podcastingonaplane.com Music by: Danijel Zambo

How does one go from cleaning chicken droppings in Iowa to being a videographer in Iran to heading one of America's iconic technology companies? (http://www.advanceyourart.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/samaquillano_1302790971_56.jpg) Sam Aquillano is an Industrial Designer and Founder of The Design Museum Foundation. “My advice to any entrepreneur is to get a co-founder and open up to your friends and family about what you’re about to do.” – Sam AquillanoWhat does it take to launch a museum from scratch? If you’re like me you believe that you need to find a cool building in a great location and get a bunch of donors. That’s what Sam Aquillano and his business partner Derek Casio thought at first but when they looked closer and that model they decided to pivot and think differently. Using their expertise in creating events and looking at the business models of New York City pop-up shops they focused on a new concept for a museum and launched the Design Museum Foundation. MEET SAM: Sam Aquillano is Founder and Executive Director of Design Museum Foundation, a national network of local design museums. What started as Design Museum Boston, now includes Design Museum Portland in Oregon, and is growing across the country. Their mission is to educate the world about the importance of design in our lives. Design is everywhere, so the museum has no permanent address — instead, Sam and his team turn the museum inside out and turn entire cities into locally-focused, nomadic design museums. Sam earned a BFA in Industrial Design from Rochester Institute of Technology and went on to design consumer electronics at Bose Corporation, as well as to teach design at Wentworth Institute of Technology, MassArt, and Babson College — where he recently earned his MBA. With a passion for design, creativity, and learning, Sam creates a long-term vision for the museum. He leads a dedicated team while managing key programs and strategic operations. In 2013 Sam and his team were named one of BostInno’s 50 on Fire. Sam routinely speaks at conferences, keynotes, and workshops about design, entrepreneurship, innovation, branding, placemaking, and business strategy. Recent speaking engagements include IBM SmartCamp, Future M, TEDxBoston, TEDxFenway, Portland Monthly’s Bright Lights, MIT Hacking Arts, and Harvard iLab. What is Design Museum Boston? We’re a new kind of museum focused on educating the world about design. We’re based in Boston, but we don’t have our own gallery space. We’re a distributed museum with exhibits & events all over town. What is a nomadic museum? We turn the museum inside out, turning the entire city into the museum. We put exhibitions and events in places where people already go: retail space, public space—even outside. What will I learn at Design Museum Boston? From architecture to video game design, furniture to fashion, products to graphics, design is more than an industry: it’s a process and way of thinking that solves complex problems. Do I need to be a designer to visit the museum? Absolutely not! Design is for everyone! We offer the most accessible, inclusive way to engage with design and designers. Our exhibitions and events are open to all.
