On the rare occasion the Legacy Music Hour goes beyond the fourth generation for an episode. But on this rarest of occasions, they did back-to-back Beyond 16-Bit episodes. Somehow, even in an episode with relaxed rules for what tracks are legal to play, an illegal track slipped though, as "Jewelry (Prize Cue 1989)" from Wheel of Fortune on Sega CD was a previously existing track, not

On this episode of the podcast, we're throwing it back to the days of staying home from school, the good ole sick day, braided belts, and bootleg Hilfiger drip. We dive into the legacy of the legendary Bob Barker and The Price Is Right, share what life was really like for us in 1995, and spotlight a deep cut toy classic Battle Beasts. We also talk about the brand new Nintendo Switch 2, crack open some epic mailbags, read hilarious fan mail, and give away some Salty Water to our amazing listeners. New Game Old Flame - A modern and homebrew retro gaming podcast.
In this episode, Andy, Wiedo, and Mark continue the tradition of the yearly shoot'em-up special. Andy kicks things off with Frontier Force for the Sega Master System, an intense fixed-screen shooter reminiscent of Space Invaders but elevated with dynamic weapon cycling and epic battles against waves of aliens and imposing bosses. Mark dives into Red Shift for the ZX Spectrum, spotlighting its accessible mechanics, unique shield regeneration system, and collectible ship parts that boost your capabilities, despite challenges posed by its monochrome visuals and tricky bullet visibility. Finally, Wiedo introduces Changeable Guardian Estique on the NES, an inventive horizontal shooter featuring a mech-transforming spaceship, strategic shield replenishments, and branching paths offering varied environmental challenges. Come shoot up some time with us!
For Episode 285, Rob purposely picked all Sega console tracks, but by coincidence and by accident, Brent picked all Nintendo console tracks, so it ended up being an accidental Sega versus Nintendo showcase. Other than, Brent and Rob look at some suggestive artwork and then try to recreate it for the episode photo. Full track listing below.Download and listen NOWGame - Composer - Song

On this episode, we're throwing it all the way back—counting down the Top 5 Albums of 1996, revisiting Eazy-E's It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, and diving into the nostalgic glory of TV trays. We also confess the dumbest “crimes” we committed as kids (you're not alone if you stole a candy bar), pay tribute to Bob Saget and America's Funniest Home Videos, and get pumped all over again for American Gladiators. Episode 85 is here. This is where we really begin to tie the episode number to the year of a game (or games?) release. So let's talk about the NES. We don't do it very often around here. The console itself is a bit of a "hidden gem", so let's give it the exposure it deserves. We are primarily going to discuss the seventeen launch titles for the NES. Those games came out in October of 1985. That was almost forty years ago, folks! Don't worry, we will talk a little about the other thirteen black box games.. along with some of the other "black box-adjacent" games, too. So come hang out with us and have some fun. If you don't have fun, you can't blame us (maybe you can?)
While some of the tracks in this mixtape may *sound* like they're from the third or fourth generation, this is in fact a Beyond 16-Bit episode (the eighth one to be precise). These episodes are a way for the boizz to share modern VGM finds that wouldn't normally be LMH legal. As you'll see from tracks like "Saved the Moon (Alt. Ending/Credits)" from Elechead or "Marsh" from Lizard,

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Everyone around RTG Industries knows I love the NES, and the best games in the NES library are practically royalty around here. That exclusive list includes the Mario trilogy, both Contras, a ton of Mega Man, and of course, the legendary Mike Tyson's Punch-Out... I have been trying to beat this game on and off for almost 35 years and still haven't reached the top of the mountain. For the longest time, Soda Popinski was my kryptonite. I couldn't beat him as a kid, and he just held court over me (is that a term?) every time I went up against him. I've finally slayed that demon, but the illusive Mike Tyson victory still evades me. For now, anyway. But that doesn't matter. Modern tough games make me crazy, but NES tough games are my torture of choice. I don't think I'll ever get tired of playing Punch-Out, and every couple years I fall into its clutches and spend a month or two swearing at little ref Mario. It's practically a perfect game and I'll tell you why on this episode. And before I get knocked out, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks where most of our listeners are located, so I share some stats. Is there a genre of game I discovered later in life and fell in love with? And what 5 Switch games would I recommend to a newcomer? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Andy and Wiedo return after a busy break to tackle Hero GP (Gameboy Color), an addictive racing experience reminiscent of Super Hang-On, with its vibrant visuals and simple yet engaging gameplay, and Crater Song (NES), a sci-fi puzzle adventure filled with rich lore, unique cooperative mechanics using two NES controllers simultaneously, and a compelling narrative set on a mysterious musical planet. The crew also touches on recreating Quake maps purely from memory in the "Quake from Memory" project, the trials and tribulations of the never-ending TV repair, sourdough baking, the upcoming shmups episode, the MiSTer Multisystem2, and much more!
Unlike some of the games I've recently played for The Last Call, Dauntless had a good run, launching in beta in May 2018 and lasting until May 2025. That's seven good years. Well, as someone who didn't regularly play it, I can't say they were good years with any kind of authority, but as someone who played it near launch and near death, it was a fine time. Ultimately, I think it never found a way to get out from under Monster Hunter's shadow, so it was only a matter of time until it died. To all the players who will miss it now that it's gone, I hope you're able to remember all the good times you had as you try a find a new game to play with your lads.
Blues Progressions was the theme of Episode 253. A classic chord progression used in blues music as well as many other genres such as pop, rock and jazz. While the chord progression is used in blues music, that doesn't mean it necessarily sounds "bluesy." For example, "Wily Tower: Wily Tower 3" from RockMan: Mega World features the progression, but stylistically is more pop-rock

This was a long time coming. I've talked about wanting to play The Last of Us Part II for years now, but the mood was never quite right. After luckily stumbling into a 30th Anniversary PlayStation 5 Pro, I said The Last of Us Part II would be the game to break my new console's cherry. Fast-forward six months later and that time has finally come (insert eyebrow raising here). This episode covers a little over half of the game's story and this shouldn't need to be said, but expect heavy spoilers. With all that out of the way, give this episode a listen to see if I think The Last of Us Part II is a significant improvement over its predecessor, or just more of the same.

The music on this installment of the Legacy Music Hour might be too good to listen to while doing other things like entering your initials, but you'll be alright. In Episode 284, Brent clears up some mistakes made on last month's episode, Jim Varney impressions are made, and a new design for the SNES logo is conceived, which you can see below after the track listing and in the episode
Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is one of the few games I've not completed for Attack the Backlog. The reason is twofold. First, it's structured in such a way that you can just play whatever level you want in whatever order you want and actually "beating" the game feels inconsequential. Second, and more importantly, it's just an incredibly frustrating game. That said, however, there's so much potential in a game like Jedi Power Battles, which reminds one of games like Gauntlet Dark Legacy and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, that I'd love to see either a proper remake or a brand new game in the series. Sadly, I doubt that will ever happen, but I'll continue hoping because if you lose hope with Star Wars, what do you have left?
Just when I thought I had played every RPG the NES had to offer, this obscure 1990 title shows up. Joined by Vanfernal, we dive deep into this little-known relic from the NES era. RJJ Software's Software Development Service This episode of The Modern .NET Show is supported, in part, by RJJ Software's Podcasting Services, whether your company is looking to elevate its UK operations or reshape its US strategy, we can provide tailored solutions that exceed expectations. Show Notes "When you program for the NES you deeply need to understand the hardware, right. And that's not a thing; like as a .NET developer you don't really know what a register is, or like or a bus, or like NES has a thing called a PPU"— Jonathan Peppers Welcome friends to The Modern .NET Show; the premier .NET podcast, focusing entirely on the knowledge, tools, and frameworks that all .NET developers should have in their toolbox. We are the go-to podcast for .NET developers worldwide, and I am your host: Jamie "GaProgMan" Taylor. In this episode, Jonathan Peppers joins us to talk about something which is a little out of the ordinary for us here: programming the Nintendo Entertainment System but in C#. We talk about the process behind his (some would say absurd) idea for an AOT transpiler which can convert a subset of C# over to the Assembler required to write and publish a NES game. "So you think about that example, what I described there on the NES side is actually very similar to what's on the IL side, is that in IL, you have a string, right? It goes and looks up in a string table, the contents of the string, and puts it on a stack, and then it calls vram_write, and then it's the runtimes job to actually like make that happen at runtime; or in the case of an AOT compiler it would emit, you know, native machine code that does the same thing."— Jonathan Peppers Along the way, we talk about that Ahead-of-Time compilation is, have a brief intro to what IL is (that's what your C# code is compiled to before running it), and how all of that fits in with .NES—the wonderful name for Jon's AOT NES compiler. Anyway, without further ado, let's sit back, open up a terminal, type in `dotnet new podcast` and we'll dive into the core of Modern .NET. Second live recording in a row, the one after the 4/20 episode, and Nelson was really stoned and took super bad notes. So, honestly, here's all we got. The Notes: Crackin' a fresh one! Cobbler Talk! Robots rights are workers rights! Instead of helping you play NES, he helps you do lines! Myrtle Beach, baby! That's all, baby! I wanted to try to listen and get you more, but I had some computer trouble that delayed my editing and cut short my time. I barely got the patreon posts in this weekend. A lot of great tracks on Episode 251. Starting things off is "Unused 1" from Choujikuu Yousai Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie, which features some really cool orchestra hits and a very catchy beat. "5 Minute Score Attack" from Coryoon: Child of Dragon has that motivating "get up and save the universe" sound that is common in shoot-them-ups, and also features some great rock style drums.&
We don't make the news; we merely report and dissect it. So it's not our fault that this week's episode focuses quite a bit on some older topics come alight, starting with a new Helldivers 2 postmortem. Developer Arrowhead's CEO recently gave an interview, displaying a surprising level of accountability and levelheadedness about the ups and downs of their mega-popular game. Then, we talk a whole lot about Nintendo, because literally half of our listener inquiries this week were on the topic of Switch 2. Switch's successor is a mere months away, and while there's no doubt a lot of excitement, there also seems to exist an unusual amount of skepticism, and even anger and animosity. Will Nintendo be able to capture its first generation-to-generation success story since NES and SNES? Or are we looking at more of the same-old same-old? After, we get into rumors of yet another The Last of Us-related re-release, a mysterious physical edition at a premium price, but with contents unknown. Have we had enough, already? Other news includes data on Xbox's publishing performance on PS5, fresh sales and player numbers for the likes of Death Stranding and Atomfall, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! With the reveal of The Duskbloods on Switch 2 and because there's no Bloodborne news seemingly ever, is it clear that FromSoft has beef with Sony? Should we be worried about the survival of Ubisoft's studio Massive, and thus the future of The Division? Are physical game gimmicks getting awfully close to jumping the shark? How did we accidentally appear in a popular YouTube series about bad drivers? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.
