We're a little off-topic here, but it's for a good cause. Instead of the usual black tie event to raise money to fight cancer, founders of the H Foundation decided to create an uplifting event with The Goombay Bash. So grab your Hawaiian shirt and get yourself to the Navy Pier in Chicago on July 27th and help fight cancer (https://www.goombaybash.com/). While you're there, order yourself a Goombay Smash, just like the one Michael is drinking in this episode. Cortney Hausser has dedicated her career to the nonprofit industry holding numerous positions over the years in this sector. She began her career in 2010 as the Partnership Builder for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will & Grundy Counties. After leaving her position to pursue a more corporate setting, Cortney took the role as Development Associate for the Bolingbrook Hospital Foundation where she advanced the fundraising efforts to support the healing mission of Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. Through this role, Cortney reinvigorated the Employee Charitable Giving Program nearly doubling the amount raised year over year. In October of 2015, Cortney made the decision to pursue a new role within the cancer nonprofit sector. Cortney began her position as Executive Director of The H Foundation in December of 2015. As Executive Director of The H Foundation, Cortney sits on the Advisory Board for the Friends of the Lurie Cancer Center. She was the recipient of the 2019 West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry 30 Under 40 Award, graduate of the 2014 Adventist Hospital Emerging Leader Program, a prior member of the Exchange Club of Joliet and the recipient of the 2012 Exchange Club of Joliet William H. Lipsey "Rookie of the Year" Award. John Rot is a proven community and charitable leader. He started his career doing business valuations as a part of the appraisal group for Arthur Anderson. After leaving this position, John managed Hortons of La Grange, Inc., a pillar in La Grange since 1896. After two years in a management position, John purchased the company and created the business we know today as Hortons Home Lighting. This business propelled John's track record as an experienced businessman. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to opportunities of investment and ownership in the La Grange Theater, Q-BBQ, and The Hot Dog & Burger Co. His advocacy to the La Grange community drove him to invest in a $2 million renovation of the historic La Grange Theater in order to maintain this community asset. Through his business ventures, John has served as an Advisory Board member for the largest co-op in the lighting industry and as an Advisory Board member for the Friends of the Lurie Cancer Center. He was the recipient of the 2016 Business Person of the Year for the Rotary Club of La Grange, 2005 La Grange Business Association Person of the year, and served as the 2004 La Grange Business Association President. 4-H is the nation's largest youth development organization, with more than six million members and over 90,000 clubs. At its heart, 4-H is very similar to the organization from 108 years ago, the basis was experiential learning then and it is just that today.  Brenda Scheider, Executive Director of the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation shares more about how 4-H has evolved from when it first started in the early 1900s to now and the impact that it has on people throughout the state. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Even though it's still winter, it is never too early to start planning for crop insurance.  Farm director Pam Jahnke had the chance to visit with Deanna Ranum, crop insurance agent with Premier Insurance Solutions.  Many conversations are happening trying to make decisions with still so many unknowns for the upcoming growing season.  One thing we can say pretty confidently is it looks like rates for crop insurance are on the rise. Each year Cedar Crest Ice Cream partners with the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation to hold their Ice Cream Flavor Creation contest.  4-H members and clubs from around the state get the chance to be creative and come up with their very own new flavor.  Luke Kohlwey, Director of Sales for Cedar Crest shares more about the contest and what it takes to make those winning flavors become reality.   He has continued to be impressed with 4-H members' creativity and strong involvement in the contest. It's time for our ALCIVIA Coop Talk.  Farm director Pam Jahnke catches up with Tom Volkert, Energy Products Specialist.  Energy and fuel prices continue to rise.  This continues to be not only a domestic issue, but a global issue as well.  Volkert and his team at ALCIVIA work hard to serve customers and help them get the most value possible. Matt Tranel, broker with EverAg joins the morning show to talk about all things in dairy and crop markets.  Reports show that even though we have seen some strength in our dairy commodity prices, the US butter and cheese prices continue to be quite a bit lower than others in the global marketplace.  That makes things very attractive for others and hopefully should encourage exports.  The recent USDA cattle report has given some insight for the dairy industry on the number of replacement heifers retained.  That number is down from last year and hasn't been this low since 2005.  Use of sexed semen and breed-to-beef programs seem to have affected this number and look to limit how quickly dairy farmers may be able to expand their milking herds in the short term.  Finally, we are seeing lots of activity in our crop markets.  Weather and lower projections from Brazil continue to drive bean prices, and even though China is in the Lunar New Year, there is rumor of them being in need of more soybeans as well.  Conflict between Russia and Ukraine also may have a longer term effect on corn and wheat markets, time will only tell based on what happens going forward. His early career began by working for various oilfield-related companies. Mike founded Schmid Oilfield Services, Inc. in 1984. This successful company was sold to First Energy Services in June 2000. Mike remained with the company, serving as the President and COO. During his time with First Energy Services, Mike was an integral part of the team that acquired 5 more oilfield related companies with operations throughout the Rocky Mountain region and Alaska where he managed over 400 employees and hundreds of pieces of equipment and vehicles. Eventually the company was sold to Basic Energy Services in October 2003. While working for First Energy Services, Mike founded SOS Well Services as a workover rig company. In 2006, Mike started to expand SOS Well Services to create the multi-million-dollar operation that exists today. During the time building his first oilfield company Mike also founded Schmid Development Co. as a company that buys, sells and leases commercial properties. This company still operates today and holds properties in Wyoming, Nebraska and Michigan. In late 2000 after the sale of his company to First Energy Services and while working for them as their President & COO he purchased the Watts Ranch near Devils Tower, WY. Mike continued to purchase, and lease land there and eventually founded Solitude Ranch & Outfitters, LLC. The ranch today consists of 8500 acres of prime Black Hills land. MSU 4-H Children's Garden is “is a place of enrichment and delight for children of all ages.”

“The garden's origins go back to about 1987 or 88, and the founding curator, Jane Taylor, who also worked for the Michigan 4-H Foundation, had the idea that she wanted to create a a garden for children,” Lownds explains. “And what she meant by that was an idea that no one else had really had up until that time. She wanted a place like a botanical garden, but one that was for kids so that when you went in it, you didn't just walk in and follow the pathways and all you could do is look at plants because, God forbid, that you ever touch anything or step on the grass even or that sort of thing. She was very tired of when parents with young children ask the children, ‘Well, where do you want to go?' They would always say, ‘Well, we want to go to the zoo.' Never did they say we want to go to the garden.“There have been many copies of the 4-H Children's Gardens since then, but we are the first true children's garden. It's located on MSU's campus and is a wonderful place to visit.” Lownds says the pizza garden is one of his favorite spots in the garden. “A pizza garden is a garden where a kid or an adult is going to be able to see all of the plants that make your pizza. But in order to make it so that it's immediately recognizable by children, the pizza garden is shaped like a pizza; it's round. The crust on it is concrete, but it is rounded concrete. It has imprints in the concrete of tomatoes, and onions, and basil leaves. It also even has a piece cut out of it so that you can step in and be a part of the pizza.”Lownds says about 100,000 visitors come through the gardens each year. He describes the development of the garden's Monet Bridge. And he says there's a pharmacy garden that “contains plants that are used to make pharmaceuticals. If you go back in history, almost all of our pharmaceuticals started as plants, in plants, or extractions from plants. "The science discovery garden is our attempt to make available hands-on, right in front of you some of the research that's going on in the buildings that you can see when you're standing in the garden, like in the Plant and Soil Science Building and the Plant Biology Building. So we have examples of some of those experiments. Many of them are NSF funded experiments. And so we're providing some of the broader impact or the community outreach component of those gardens.“Part of our mission is to provide a place of enrichment and delight for children of all ages.”The sheep statue in the milk, meat, and wool garden is special to Lownds.“Kids can sit on it because everything in the garden is designed to be interactive. What I tell my college students is, and it's a little bit tongue in cheek but not that much, and I'm usually sitting on the sheep while I'm talking to them,  I tell them that what I want them to do is to come out there before they graduate and get their picture taken on the sheep. I'm trying to make that a graduation requirement. I just think everyone should get out there.“My favorite plant in the garden is a plant called the sensitive plant. And when you touch the leaves of it, it closes up. It has action and activity and it's the number one favorite kid plant in the garden, and it's my favorite plant too.”MSU Today airs every Sunday morning at 9:00 on 105.1 FM, AM 870, and your smart speaker and connected devices. The Wisconsin State Fair has officially cancelled for 2020.  We're talking with Bernie O'Rourke, UW-Extension Youth Livestock Specialist, about the impact this will have on exhibitors and families - as well as her own. Brenda Scheider, Executive Director of Wisconsin's 4-H Foundation, says they're concerned about the financial impact of not having the state fair and the Governor's Blue Ribbon Meat Products auction, will have on their organization.  Last year it raised nearly $100,000 in an evening - about 30% of their yearly budget.

In the first part of this two-part, live episode, the Discovery Park team went to the Tennessee Farm Bureau annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn., to get to know some of the professionals working in agriculture today. With most people being three or more generations removed from a family farm, first-hand information is getting harder to come by, so this was a great information to hear about farming from those working in the industry every day. Part one features the Tennessee Beef Industry Council, the Tennessee 4-H Foundation, the Tennessee Poultry Association and Farm Credit Mid-America. Those we spoke with have a great understanding of the challenges facing the world in the coming years, and they are all part of providing solutions.

Enzo Muro (Electronic Groove/Dialogue/B.LØW) Enzo Muro's first taste of electronic music began during the late 90's back in Peru. As an avid partygoer and music enthusiast, Enzo had the privilege to see many of the greats, including Steve Lawer, Peace Division, Carl Cox, Sasha, Pete Tong, Adam Freeland, Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, DJ Three, H-Foundation, etc... spinning their hearts out in Lima. Good sets and good times instilled in him the passion to play music of his own... Since arriving in LA in 2004, he has been dropping records around LA, Mexico & Peru. As the California liaison for Bamboocha Radio out of Lima, Peru, Enzo has hosted many local djs and special guests in his bedroom studio in recent years. This has been a great opportunity for Enzo to hang out with basically all the djs in the industry on a level outside of the party scene–some tight bonds have derived from these personal encounters. Now, having joined the zealous Electronic Groove team based out of Miami, Enzo has connected a strong link between the U.S. bicoastal network. It’s the perfect match for both parties. Equity is a beautiful thing. The amount of music that Enzo has been exposed to, on his radio show, live streaming or out and about at every show in LA, gives him a broad and tasteful style of music when he djs. One has to step out of the box to acquire such a taste in music. Enzo has played at Lightning in a Bottle and Desert Hearts, Burning Man a few years; and has opened for djs such as Barac, Bill Patrick, tINI, Sepp & Nu Zau, Hernan Cattaneo, Rampue, Frank & Tony, Mira, Behrouz, Nick Warren, Daniel Bortz, Guy J, to name a few. Enzo is also a resident of Dialogue, one of the most prestigious underground parties in LA, alongside with Halo Varga, Silky & MD; and a fixture at Pattern Bar, a popular dimly lit cocktail lounge in DTLA where now throws a monthly party with Electronic Groove called B.LØW. @enzo-muro https://www.facebook.com/EnzoMuro/ Website: likemindedculture.com/ Facebook: facebook.com/likemindedculture Instagram: instagram.com/likemindedculture/

Rhythmic Classics have been the driving forces for this Southern California import from Colombia who now resides in San Diego. Paulo's vision for music is rooted in his passion for bringing new sonic experiences through the understanding of his Latin roots and music influences in Jazz, Blues, Soul, Disco, Hip Hop, Rock and Funk. Paulo’s minimalistic, raw, and forward-thinking approach to House and Techno music have led the way for releases on Cubek Records. The experience of holding DJ residencies in Tokyo, Japan and San Diego, combined with his honest and radiant energy as a performer have placed him as a collaborator in different underground music projects throughout the Southern California region. Paulo is a part of Clique: a movement born from the collective effort of a group that shares the same passion and spiritual connection with art and music. It's a project geared to promote the evolution of sound and visual aesthetics, providing a unique experience that stimulates the mind and the soul. Paulo is also Artifact Record Shop's Co-Owner and Marketing director. This is a new online House and Techno boutique dedicated to vinyl only imprints and releases. Eric Galaviz and Brian Varga, better known as the DJ / Producer duo Hipp-E and Halo, joined forces 15 years ago after realizing they shared many common musical interests. The H Foundation was born. Here and now in 2014 they have just released their album ‘Passage’, a collection of their finest moments from 1999-2004, through DJ Sneak’s imprint Magnetic Recordings. And to mark the release they’ve put together a brand new mix for the Gangstercast. The guys explain, “This mix is a small taste of some of the tracks and artists that we are into and what you would hear in our DJ sets from begging to end. We carefully choose the tracks in this mix so that people could get a feel and taste of what you would hear if you came to the club to see us play.” H Foundations’ dedication to House music has always been evident and of their relationship with the music they simply state, “House music has a felling that touches your soul that moves you.” About the House Gangster music they add they view it as, “Dirty House Music infused with a taste of Chicago. DJ Sneak is a brother to us, he has been in the game for a long time and has inspired so many artist there's not a lot of Old School House heads doing what he's doing and we have so much respect for him. “Nothing else to add other than download it and jam to it in your ride :)” H Foundation’s ‘Passage [1999-2004]’ is out now at Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/passage-1999-2004/1325091

Healing Your Life With Dr. Chris Michaels

We have had such a wonderful and inspiring time with Kacy on Healing Your Life. The time has flown by and we are at week five, her final show with Dr. Chris. Kacy has come so far in finding the clarity and courage to take her next steps. She and her husband have a business name, a mission statement, and the plans to move forward with their nonprofit organization, The H Foundation. From their mission statement: “We combine financial planning, legal and estate planning, family counseling, resources, and programs that are organized in a way that allow special needs families a one-stop shop for important life decisions. We strive to help Special Needs Families have a better quality of life, more peace of mind and a stronger foundation to build upon for years to come.”   It was a blessing to be a part of her journey while she worked with Dr. Chris on Healing Your Life. We feel certain the Seitz family and The H Foundation will have a bright, successful, and Spirit filled future!

Less vocal and slightly more tech, Sunsnoozer brings you a selections of moodier grooves and Balearic beats to help you unwind this summer.Special attention is worth drawing to the tunes by Jimpster, H-Foundation, Phonique and my old Mixmag mate, Gavin Herlihy - of whom I’m particularly proud for getting a release on the awesome Buzzin’ Fly records. I had a really good time making this mix. With a great intro track by Silicone Soul, followed by a remix of Sander Kleinenberg's "My Lexicon", and choice cuts throughout. the is pretty hypnotic stuff. I even revived the classic H-Foundation remix of the Plastic Avengers track "El Bombata." Enjoy this one, I made it special for a little pool party I am throwing, so I know I will!
